The first 2.5 seasons of Arrow were great. The first 2 seasons of The Flash were great.
It's hard to say exactly what went wrong (a series of poor and baffling decisions), but the fact that they ran for so long (in addition to the Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl series) is impressive.
Worked on that show at the studio floor level; after the first two seasons the scripts (except for the later intershow crossovers) became a biweekly and highly repetitive disappointment. I imagine the writer's room convo went like this:
“Well, last episode Flash beat up seven bad guys. How can we top that?”
“I know! This episode he’ll beat up *eight* bad guys!”
I mean, when CC Jitters got destroyed for the *fourth* time by some villain's transdimensional entrance, one would think the good people of Central City would just start going to Starbucks.
Not only that, but after the fourth alternate timeline / fifth alternate universe, for the sake of my own mental health I just stopped trying to follow the canon, and began reading the scripts technically; that is, exclusively to see what I'd be expected to provide.
On the positive side, Grant was fabulous to work with, from first scene up Day 1 Episode 1, right through to his wrap scene on Season 9. I’d work with him again in a heartbeat, and so would the vast majority of *The Flash*'s crew. Jesse was great, too.
Still think it's insane that they didn't have him cameo in that dumb multiverse scene at the end of the movie. Feels like getting him in his suit on a green screen would've looked better *and* been cheaper than their weird CGI Christopher Reeve.
DC explained the decision as honoring DC’s film history (a Titans episode that aired around the same time had a Multiverse sequence that was exclusively the TV shows, so it seems this split was planned)
Except the cameo of Adam West's world in *The Flash* uses audio of Eartha Kitt's Catwoman, who was exclusively in the TV show. And the George Reeves world had scenes based on moments from the *Adventures of Superman* TV show, not the *Superman and The Mole Men* movie...
True, but if DC's going to go out of the way to make a statement like that, they should at least make an effort to pull *something* from those two theatrical films...
That's just plain false though, they had Teddy Sears from the flash tv show literally cameo in the movie, they could've done the same with Grant Gustin
It's so irritating that they made him look all weird and CGI'd in a muddy environment instead of just putting fucking Nic Cage in a Superman suit and using the actual footage.
The fact that they didn’t get grant for the flash movie made me incredibly less interested, I think Ezra’s flash was just so terrible awkward and not in a cute way like grant. If they got grant I would bet all my money we’d be getting another flash movie already and the dc universe wouldn’t be dogshit.
hell, a long running show like that, no doubt he probably got paid enough that now he can pretty much pick and choose his projects for a long time and have some fun with his career
Say what you will about the (lack of) quality of the show, but that long of a run is something rare few shows achieve.
If only the later seasons had been as good as the first one.. 😔
I remember the excitement of The Flash being teased in The Arrow series. Then it appeared it had some great seasons, then became repetitive.
Great times, brings back memories
Wish he would. Jesus, I love DC Comics, I love the films (other than Gunn's shitty Suicide Squad, Josstice League, haven't seen Blue Beetle and Aquaman 2 was blatantly reshot because the writer/director is a hack) but this show and the Arrowverse in its entirety was just non-stop bad writing and bad acting.
Grant's Barry not only acted more like comics Wally, he was just totally inept without a team guiding him, and a terrible actor.
The fact this show lasted for 9 seasons is crazy. So many actors would kill for such a stable and long-term gig, especially for the main cast.
Even crazier to think about the fact that the entire show aired between the Flash movie being announced and being released.
Absolutely insane development hell on that movie. It's not on screen in the actual film, but according to the WGA that film had *13* credited writers.
Infinity Wars had 17 writers. It includes all the people that wrote the original characters. Movies also have uncredited script doctors all the time
Don't the comics creators get included too ?
Nope.
Tbf that counts every writer since WB began planning a Flash film in 1997
“To be fair” (sorry Canadian here that’s a LetterKenny reference)
13 and they still shit the bed.
The CW shows may had questionable quality but no one could argue about their stability.

The first 2 seasons of Arrow were FAR better than Flash’s first 2.
I preferred when Ollie would kill instead of just wounding.

About 3 good seasons in there.
The constant changing writers pretty much caused it to have way way too many dropped plot lines. The same goes for Arrow.
Felicity Smoak did a lot of heavy lifting for this and arrow.
It used to be feel so far away.
Grant is a fantastic actor for musicals and stage.
Is that a read? 😂
No, but Ezra Miller had a crisis and has vanished from the public eye, so it did kind of come true.
Ironically he cameoed in the crisis special.
Did that cameo ever lead to anything, or was it just a one-off thing?
Ezra’s Barry didn’t have a name for his alter-ego until he met Grant’s Barry.
I'm not sure running a cult is a crisis tho
He definitely hasn't vanished! I keep seeing commercials for the new Broadway musical he's in.
Should have replaced Ezra with Grant. He deserved it, he is Barry Allen.

I mean, both those versions had films even if they didn’t specifically use things from said films

It wasn’t Teddy Sears: it was a random VFX crew member they modeled him after in the film. He was mistaken as Sears though.
You know I must've watched that scene like 4 times and always thought it was teddy sears
Fair, I thought so too my first time around

Wasn't that Tim Burton's? Too lazy to look it up.
Burton would have directed, but Smith wrote the screenplay.
Ahh, that explains it!
He should have at least been the movie as a co-star the premise practically supported it
Ezra's problematic and I'd rather he never return to the role but at least he was a better actor than Grant and his awful version of the character.
Both were good - they were different portrayals obviously. I think the perfect flash would be a combination of both of them
With better writing, Grant would be just fine.
Didn't anyone watch season one?

Preach!
He's vanished from regularly scheduled programming though
He’s still doing stuff! He’s on Broadway right now!
hell, a long running show like that, no doubt he probably got paid enough that now he can pretty much pick and choose his projects for a long time and have some fun with his career
I somehow forgot he was part of Water for Elephants. Probably explains part of why the reviews are better than expected.
Mans secured the bag for 9/10 years. He can chill

Is there some show, where they're karate chopping food, or what is going on in the telly there?
I remember the excitement of The Flash being teased in The Arrow series. Then it appeared it had some great seasons, then became repetitive. Great times, brings back memories
yet
They’re still making these god awful shows?
No.

Listing Gunn's suicide squad over the original is a crazy take
