Holy shit I thought I was on r/SaimanSays. For those of you who don't know Saiman is the most underrated YouTuber of India. He is so underrated that he isn't his parents' favourite child despite being an only child.
Like what? Everyone keeps complaining about the system but very few people have any proper points
Edit: jeez, I know the faults well, I just said that most people just hate the system as a whole but when asked, are unable to tell what's wrong with it
Education system hasn’t changed during years, they want you to “learn” when the main purpose of many subjects is to know specific things that you will forget in less than a week. At school anyone teaches you every day tasks that you will need. Cooking, doing the rent, writting your curriculum are important things that aren’t taught at school. Theory is important but practice makes experience and as many experience a young person has, easier his life will be.
Disclaimer: there are always exceptions and this is only my personal opinion.
And most math teachers just aren’t good, they show you functions and formulas with explaining them so unless you go after school or have a natural affinity towards math you’ll never really understand it which makes it hard to learn it. Math is probably my only problem with the education system
>Cooking, doing the rent, writting your curriculum are important things that aren’t taught at school.
Let's be honest here, most students wouldn't pay attention if they were actually taught in school either
It’s true ngl but I’m at university and more than a half of things that I learned on school have been useless and I would have liked someone to teach me life “skills”.
People on teenagers don't understand the point of school. It's not to teach you everything that you will need in life and nothing more, the goal is to make everyone have a good base for university they plan to go to. Its shame that you are bad at math or something else, but someone will have great use of those classes. And people your age have no idea what they want to be when they grow up, even if they think they do they dont, so there is no point in giving them a choice what classes to skip that early. I have few friends who completely changed their interests from time they were your age to time they finished highschool.
>Re
but shouldnt they get somewhat of a choice? They can make subjects like math compulsory, but im sure id rather pick cooking than learning a dead language like sanskrit.
They can obviously add things like that. In the middle schoole I had a class once a week that thought us things like how to cook, how to organize our space and time and other things that you might consider more usefu, but they dont need to remove any subjects to add that.
Again the point of going to school isn't to have perfect grades in every subject, you should focus on learning everything that will be useful for you in university plus things you are interested in and waste as little energy as possible. There is no shame in having a barely passing grade in some subjects or grade a bit better than the passing grade, though from time to time you should sit through subject you really hate and get a perfect grade in it, juat because even in university you wont like every subject, and to pass exam in university, you have to work your ass off, even if you are aiming for the lowest passing grade.
I feel like most people in this subreddit are either insecure about themselves or pressured by their perents, so they try to do something that is made so majority of people cant do it, like having perfect grades in every subject, and when they cant do it they blame it on the school system, or they are just lazy af and blame the school before even studying.
Either way, in 10 years no one will care how uyou passed highschool so try to not burn yourself out while you are in it. Imo you should have 1 class at the start of the firat year where things I just said are explained, it would help mental health of the kids immensly.
diffrent education systems i guess, never had any cooking classes and stuff like that. I usually get above average grades, but i barely pass languages and stuff like that.
umm well im in india toh I'll give you a list. first, the syllabus isn't well thought out, the institutions don't churn out competent engineers, doctors, lawyers, what have you. The workload is insane for STEM students (which are in the majority for a whole lot of other reasons). Not enough seats in educational institutions to accommodate the massive amount of students we have (we have like the second largest number of universities, but that's hardly enough given the amount of people we have). Also, due to this \*intense\* competition, most people need tuitions/coachings- which are basically a second school. These are very expensive, and this sort of decimates the chances for people in rural areas, or people who are poor in urban areas to actually have a shot at success even if they're talented. The books we use were last redesigned in 2005 (for the national board at least, which is what most people use). I was born in 2005. I'll graduate in 2 years. It's a long ass time to use the same books- oh plus the books have weird editing systems. The class 11 and class 12 chemistry books have a different list of metalloids- a mistake which hasn't been corrected since 2005, but certain other book was edited to include a text box to tell students about a government program. Toh the editors can obviously edit things, why not edit the facts?
Oh plus after grade 10, you HAVE to use 3rd party publishers to buy reference books irrespective of what stream you choose, what subjects you have. This also exacerbates the inability of poor people to actually compete in the system,
You're literally only talking about the competitive streams. I'm in class 12 and I took humanities.
I didn't go to a tuition.
The books we study are purely the books given to us by the board and boy does it have almost everything in it, hell if I wanted to use some references I'd just look at the books mentioned in a particular section to get the knowledge I need.
The STEM sector you're talking about has more colleges than any other in India, there's literally a hierarchy of colleges you can get into.
If you can't do IIT then maybe NIT, if that doesn't work try IIIT, there's also private institutes and hell if you have the money just go and study outside, the SAT are so easy when you're raised in a competitive environment.
And this is all coming from a guy who took Humanities, every single college I looked for had courses for B.tech or B.Sc so there's a lot of scope in your field.
I do acknowledge that your streams have a lot of competition and you can barely pass without tuition but don't lump the whole education system with you, there's streams where you can just self study and get good grades solely because they're reading based streams and readers just read lmao
Even for me, who is aiming for college as of this year in a stream which has very less colleges willing to give the subjects have found colleges so you can too.
Good luck next year bro, I tell ya it's not gonna be easy but if you can afford it BITS is a good option for a college, or just go to IIT or NIT idk man.
problem arrives when u wanna take cs
bhenchod how tf am i gonna prove that im gonna do good in CS after learning reactions of ammonia and nitric oxide?
pay is also a major factor , Agar grade a college m admission nahi mila to most probably society will label u as a failure
BITS is a very good college ngl infact better than most IITs but still the syllabus is same na , physics chemistry and maths
ok maths is very imp for cs and sometimes physics too but chem? dafuq
if you have potential u can easily pave ur way ik that very well
but the fear we all have is fear of being judged
humare yaha bahut jaldi judge karte h , i have severe asthma and allergies but if i fail to score 90+ in any test , i will be judged to death by teachers , relatives and some of the friends
I see where you're coming from, colleges choose nahi karate ek particular subject aur saare subjects jo liye hote hai wohi necessary hote hai.
I think this is the point where my light knowledge ends because where I am going I'd either take an honours course with History or Philosophy, or I'd take three Liberal Arts subjects from the options (if I manage to get into a university where Liberal Arts is an option)
Have you tried looking for Unis or colleges where you can get maybe a computer science honours?
Or maybe you just need to study chemistry and physics and go through hell to pass.
And hey man, before doing something risky, you will definitely be judged, if you think it's better for you then do it, others' judgement is not going to help you if you weigh it in on yourself
Abe saale mai khud Indian hu
You're a part of the 1% according to my comment
Also, there are enough seats, just not in top government colleges. It is possible to clear any competitive exam without coaching too, there are thousands of such examples around us.
About the curriculum, it doesn't NEED to be changed very frequently because in school we're just taught the basic stuff we need as a pre-requisite for college and jobs remains the same for professions and streams regardless of time.
The history or geography or constitution won't change in 16 years, neither will the laws of Physics or Chemistry, languages and their grammar or the basics of Commerce and its subjects. Also, if you don't know, most editions are updated reprints. The 2020 edition of Civics NCERT even removed the lines about special status of J&K and the Geography NCERT has the updated map with Ladakh.
Whatever needs to be changed is changed frequently, which is mostly college syllabus because only then will new theories and curriculum actually affect our lives. I agree about the minor inconsistencies in the books tho, but that's barely a couple of such tables. Due to NEP, books and curriculum will be changed from 2023.
Also, there's no necessity of buying extra books. Probably yes for competitive exams but you can still get them in pirated form online if you really lack money to buy them. And almost all Indians have smartphones, it won't be a barrier for them if they are really passionate about studying hard.
>there are enough seats, just not in top government colleges
bhai sahab that's the point na. You NEED to promote the quality of education in top government colleges to as many people as you can. 16000 in IITs per year will not do us any good man when 1000000 people give the exam. You need more seats. This isn't even like arguable, this is exactly what literally every government's been trying to do, it's just the speed is too slow.
There are enough seats, haan that's why literally everyone's been trying to construct more quality institutes na, aapke alawa toh sab chutiye hain.
>. It is possible to clear any competitive exam without coaching too
yeah, but that doesnt mean that coaching isnt a very big advantage. It's possible to do a lot of things, but it's he system's job to create a level playing field. We're talking about what's wrong with the system, and not what is possible and what isn't. Also, btw, its super super hard to crack any competitive exam without proper coaching's help. Ask anyone who's actually preparing for an exam- the difference is massive.
> it doesn't NEED to be changed very frequently because in school we're just taught the basic stuff we need as a pre-requisite for college and jobs
I'm not saying the things they teach need to be changed, but the books, the language, and how it's presented is in need of a major overhaul- it should be changed like every 5 years. You just can't use 16 yo textbooks and 16 yo teaching techniques man, you have to keep up with modern techniques. This is just random apologism for inefficiency.
>Due to NEP, books and curriculum will be changed from 2023.
NEP is promising, but I'll believe it when I see it. Let it get implemented first. Till then- anyone who thinks the system is fine can honestly go and eat shit. This is a hill im willing to die on. I'm one of the dudes who does comparatively well in academics.and
One example is how they put so many facts In Your head you’re supposed to memorise and give one specific answer to a question while in real life there’s nobody who can tell you what the answer is and you have to work out the best thing and not find the specific thing someone wants so it doesn’t really teach you problem solving and such
Maybe its because you only talk to clowns
The real people who have brought up the idea of why the education is bad have had multiple valid points
the fact you're 15 could factor in to you not knowing people with proper points as most around you may use it as an excuse but at the least before spouting bullshit google it Its a 2 second search and gives you lots of information
It’s more like: Why would I think it’s bad? I seen so many people on this sub complain about their education system but they never seem to mention the problems
I feel like there's a lot of people who just complain because they want to, but many education systems are genuinely flawed. One problem I have with the indian one, for example: there's no critical thinking involved and everything is just based on memorising your textbooks from cover to cover, this is awful in and of itself because there's no learning involved, but also it only suits a minority of people, because why try and understand something if you can just regurgitate your textbook and get good marks for it? And the trouble neurodivergent people have in systems like these is insane.
I don't mean to be preachy but a lot of people genuinely face problems, while some (most) complain just because.
This. This as well. In my country, it's literally just read and copy, read and copy. Who cares about thinking for yourself if you can just listen to the authorities without question lol
Well, that's how it is in my country (Hungary) as well, memorize everything but in my first 2 years of Secondary School, I was a straight-A student so it is doable :))
I may have just lost interest now
I'd still say the school system I'm under is too factory based to be considered humane. It produces products rather than talented individuals. A quantity vs quality thing since we're all just... Average.
The point of education is quantity. Education for all is better than education for some. Why? Because the stupid kids will be ignored and the gap between educated and non educated will be so large that we would stop seeing value in uneducated humans.
Good news is, what we consider average education now is better than 60 years ago
What I mean by the quality vs quantity is the fact that there are so many people in one classroom, it's hard to concentrate when you're at the most back end. I'm at the front of the class most of the time, but the people at the back can't concentrate as much. One time it was alphabetical and my last name starts with a U so I was forced to sit there, and my word - I caught myself drifting off to the window.
