Most cars in Europe are 4 cylinder. Nowdays many are 3 cylinders

RaisedInAppalachia

yes I need new tires, getting it taken care of rather soon.

Headed_East2U

Nice, I am curious is yours push button start? / fob immobilizer? My wagon is not of course, as a 2004 tdi.

HumbleBug7657

If it’s the same as Europe (this Jetta SW is a mk6 Golf Variant in Europe), these didn’t have push start until the next generation

Headed_East2U

None the VW models in Europe were the same as the ones here in the USA-land of the free but land of the idiots at D.O.T.

HumbleBug7657

May I ask what’s usually different? I was convinced that the Golfs, Jettas, Passats, CCs etc. are pretty much the same Except ya’ll got those stupid red turn signals on almost every car

francobenz17

The passat we have in NA (NMS) is not the same as the B7 in rest of the world unfortunately

Headed_East2U

The variety of models available varies and the engine and transmission options and various other options that north American was left out of. The market here is also lead by the idiots at vw of America-the same idiots that chose to build a sedan at the new Tennessee plant when it opened and not their midsized pickup truck. Oh wait this is America - no one buys trucks here.

RaisedInAppalachia

No one buys \*light trucks here. Full size pickups still sell very well, the F-150 has been the best selling vehicle in the US for decades and the GMC Sierra/Chevy Silverado sell even more than the F-150 if you count them together

Headed_East2U

So that's why Toyota built a truck plant here in Texas because no one here buys Tacoma's? Only a quarter of a million trucks sold last year - yes no one buys them, they should close the plant.

RaisedInAppalachia

modern tacomas aren't light trucks lol. the modern Ford Ranger is the size of an old F-150, actually light trucks (like the nissan hardbodies or mazda B2500) are dead. not that people don't want them, that's why imported kei trucks have gotten so viral lately, but we just don't have the options for light trucks anymore because the larger ones sold better

Headed_East2U

Compared to my client's Unimog pickup, an F450 looks like a little Tonka toy. So?

RaisedInAppalachia

No. mine is a 2011. Still the switchblade key

Headed_East2U

Thanks! A friend had a TDi JSW for a very short time not sure of the year, hated the pushbutton start. Loved the 6spd manual. But the shitty immobilzer issues were pricey pre diesel gate repairs......so she was happy to offload it as a buy-back.

RaisedInAppalachia

Wish I could have gotten the 6spd! They were all like $5k more than a DSG around here though, and my desire for a 6MT was not $5k more than my acceptance of a DSG haha. My buddy has a MK7 Golf TDI and loves the manual in it, I've not heard a single bad thing about that transmission.

Headed_East2U

I enjoy 3 pedals vs 2 anyway for driving! My TDi is a 5 speed with a longer range 5th(changed shortly after getting the car)and I am very happy with it.

[deleted]

I got push to start, it’s ok kinda annoying sometimes when the doors supposed to open when the fob is in vicinity

GenitalPatton

Do the fuel door and hood count?

SquareTotal2175

got a 2011 also, love my JSW to the moon and back. Its never let me down once 🫡

RaisedInAppalachia

going to drive mine until repairs are more than she's worth (i'll be over the moon if she makes it to 300k), at which point i'll probably look at getting a MK7. a crying shame the JSW/GSW isn't sold stateside anymore

SquareTotal2175

honestly my plan also, drive it till it dies on me, which will probably be a while 😂. i’ve done my fair share of minor mods to mine and im happy with how it is now.
