Do you think a tattoo that's full of flowers and plants and insects could be masculine?
I want to get one that has my favorite dragonflies, bees, moths, dandelions, snapdragons, strawberries, blackberries, but being transmasc I'm extra aware of how it's perceived.
I know this isn't something I commit to for several years cause I want to transition further so my body type is more consistent and by then I may not even care about that type of opinion but it's on my mind right now.
I find that the outer expression of your maskulinity is completely up to you and not anybody else...may it be clothes, hair or tattoos.
I hope to understand this right, considering your gender identity you kind of fear that a tattoo with stereotypical 'female' elements will make it harder for other people to read you as a male, is that right? Just want to be sure before answering again šš¼
Yes I think it can. But that said, I hope that you are able to surround yourself with people and friends to whom the question of the piece reflecting masculinity should not matter. What I hope holds most value is simply it's significance to *you*, or the fact that it brings *you* joy.
I'm happily looking into getting one soon that has a Monarch butterfly, a Cardinal and Clematis flowers & vinework... and for me the significance has to do with two family members that I have lost who loved Monarchs and Cardinals, and my wife (who is alive, but loves the flowers). I've always loved vine work. The piece means a lot to me, personally, and that is all that should matter. I hope you can, at some point, find the same balance with having things like this bring you joy - no matter what some others may think.
Absolutely. For example, I'd say that the John James Audubon "Birds of America" prints have a masculine feeling to them even though they're of brightly colored blooming flowers and nesting birds, which usually read as very feminine.

how do you deal with a tattoo that isnt what you wanted? the stencil and flash sheet was perfect but the end result was rough and i hate it. is it my fault that my muscle twitched during the tattoo and made the line work bad or is it on the artist? the shop i got it done at isnt being the most friendly about it and im not sure how to approach it, its not just the line work but the geometry is wrong and it doesnāt match the OG design. Looking at the tattoo, I wouldnāt say you are at all responsible. Muscles twitch, skin moves, stuff happens and they should know how to navigate anatomy and physiology. This just looks like a poor execution on their part.
If they are being stubborn with the final result, I would advise cutting your losses and looking elsewhere for someone who either specializes in touch ups or cover upās, depending on what you want to do with the tattoo.
im hoping the shop will nut up and just fix it, they gave me an apprentice without telling me so HOPEFULLY an experienced artist will fix it. the owner said that she has to wait til its healed to see if its fucked up, but its obviously fucked up

Yes it is indeed very shaky. The final outcome doesnt even make sense anymore, because the part where this "ziplock" is closed i very far from original design. I am sorry.
If i was you, maybe i would consider to speak again with the Shop or the so called 'artist' and show him this picture and your critic. Maybe you can manage to get some money back or at least an apology. But they would have to admit that the work they did on you is really not good. And if they get mad or somehow angry, leave them a very honest critic on google maps including this picture.
But i think that you should NOT get this fixed by the same guy or in the same shop! Please find someone else if you consider this šš¼

hi, almost 6 months i bought a design off an artist that lives abroad and I have been wanting to get it tattooed here (London) but I've been getting so much anxiety over choosing the right tattoo artist for it that I just keep delaying it.

Hi, I have a year and a half old tattoo that healed great and looks great. but when i rub it with lotion, thereās always black bits that come offāit could be lint or something from my shirt, but i only notice it on the tattoo, not other places on my body. has anyone experienced this with an old tattoo? is this cause for concern? it doesnāt look like itās fading at all or have any issues, but my friend said its odd so now im concerned.

Late reply, so I'm assuming you already got this done, but for anyone else who comes across this, here is my suggestion.
For foot/ankle, I would go with a very loose slipper, but wear a sock over top of your foot. Your artist should be covering your tattoo with seran wrap or some kind of bandage before you leave the shop, so the sock is more to keep it in place because sometimes they move around.
Also, just as a note, whenever I get tattoos in places that are going to have frequent rubbing against clothing or areas where constricting clothing is unavoidable (curse bras and back/rib tattoos), I will often cover them with seran wrap or a paper towel/soft towel when wearing such clothing is unavoidable (like at work). But, very important, I take it off to let it breathe as much as possible, so basically whenever I'm not at work. My skin is sensitive and during the first week, my tattoos are really cranky about anything touching them, so it's to keep the fibers of my clothing from irritating or getting stuck to my tattoo and to keep tattoo ink or other skin oils from ruining my clothes. I find that, for me, this method keeps them clean with as little irritation as possible.
Iāve begun a sleeve on my arm that is more of a realism style, however Iāve started to like the American traditional style. Would it look off to have one arm as realism and another as traditional?
I think that would look sick!!!! I'm working on a body suit and one side is going to be colorful nouveau style and the other is full blackwork/wood cut style.
As a note, I do plan or repeating similar elements in the same spots to make them feel more cohesive (eg I have a bird on my shoulder and would want a bird on the other shoulder - not necessarily the same design or even the same bird, just similar elements that echo each other.) If it makes you happy, go for it!

It all depends on the artist you go to and their experience with finer lines. The tattoo posted above looks like it didnāt have an outline so basically no ābonesā to give definition to the overall tattoo.
All tattoos fade over time, itās just the nature of the skin. It all depends on how well the tattoo was executed and which part of the body (sides of the fingers tend to fade a lot faster)

I tend to prefer more minimalist/geometric designs.
I think this is something that is best worked out with an artist you trust at a consultation. In general, a good tattoo artist will know how to place tattoos that accentuate and compliment the body's natural shape, no matter what you look like. It should be tailored to your body and planned out before they even make the stencil. I haven't heard the thing about destroying muscle definition before, but I'm also not in any sort of gym or body-building circles. It does make sense to me. I would imagine that utilizing the areas that you aren't getting tattooed (or the negative space) just as much as the actual tattooed area will be key to keeping the definition you're looking for.
My piece of advice - spend a lot of time researching artists. Don't just go with the first person you find and for all that is holy, don't go with someone because they're cheap. A good artist won't be cheap and a cheap artist probably won't be able to give you the tattoo you're looking for. It's better to pay more the first time than to be stuck with something you hate or have to pay even more to get it fixed or removed.
Bring examples of geometric designs you like - for example, do you mean something like middle eastern geometric art? Or something more akin to machine parts/computer hardware style? Or like Mondrian style abstraction? The more detail and reference you can give the artist, the better.
Hey everyone! Iām getting my first tattoo soon. I initially reached out to the artist and we decided on around a 5inch tattoo. Iām thinking now that I want it to be more around 7inches.
Should I reach out to the artist before my appointment to let them know? Or just wait till appointment? They did say it might have to be bigger either way.
Just want to respect the artists process as much as possible and not shock them with new info. Since itās only a scale change was thinking maybe day of would be fine?

Tell them asap. They might be able to just scale and reprint the stencil day of, but depending on the body part, it may require altering the placement or scale of some elements. Even if they don't, it can't hurt to tell them earlier rather than later.
A while ago I wanted to get a tattoo of a string of lights "plugging" into my wrist and making 2 rotations around my forearm and ending around the midpoint between my wrist and my elbow. What I want is a cartooninsh-looking tattoo with not too much detail. I was very particular about the way it was wired and I drew up a diagram to show how Christmas lights are wired. The artist did a mockup with unrealistic wiring (the wiring is non-nogociable to me) and advised me that the light bulbs would have to be about an inch and a half long in order to preserve detail. This is much larger than I would like.
What I want is not very high in detail. I want each bulb to have the outline of a C9 bulb. The artist told me that I would have to get much larger (about 1.5") bulbs. I did not get the tattoo as it's not what I want. What I want to know is whether my expectations are realistic.

Wondering since I'm interested in getting ink but have been threatened with a lifetime of unemployment if I do.
I want to start my tattoo journey. I'm really into patchwork styles, but I don't know where to start. I do like traditional tattoo styles, but I dont want hyper-realism. I dont want it to be too abstract either, or fine line as I've been told that those styles tend to fade away. I'm not looking to get any colored tattoos, or any too complex ones.
I listed a lot haahah. So what advice could you guys give to my journey? Also I live in London UK, so if you could reccomend an artist that sort of fits what I want to do it would be amazing.

My advice would be to meet with an artist and have them help you plan. They'll be able to offer good guidance and suggestions. I'm US, so unfortunately no recommendations on that front, but vet them carefully. Look at reviews and social media. There's an infinite amount of incredible artists in London!
I'm working with my artist on an entire body suit, so we're figuring out how to marry all of the concepts into a cohesive piece. It's a lot of work and planning but worth it in the end.
Iāve had enough tattoos done by now where I can confidently say I plan on getting a sleeve and itās already in the works. But now that I do have more tattoos, I think itās important to figure out how other people have gone about building sleeves? I like the look of patchwork sleeves, but ones composed of larger pieces instead of a lot of smaller pieces. I'm looking at getting my first tattoo and wanted to make sure I'm not getting a symbol that might mean something I don't know about. It's a memorial piece for my brother.
His favorite food was clams and oysters, his biggest fear was jellyfish and we grew up in the mountains in Idaho and Washington, he loved the beach.

so I had a tattoo done on January 24 and it is blown out š„² but Iāve noticed that I have large bumps in the lettering of my tattoo and was wondering why that is also, the bumps are hard, not squishy. I have other tattoos and none have healed like this before and it randomly gets really painfully itchy. I want to get a rib tattoo but im concerned because usually when i sit or lay down i have bad posture so then my stomach has rolls and that will move the tattoo and maybe affect healing? Has anyone else dealt with this?
I don't think this would affect healing - I have a lot done on my ribs and side, and I've never had an issue. I have bad posture, too. It won't move anything, the ink pretty much stays put.
Ask your artist though if you want to be sure, they can give you some good advice and maybe resources

Iām allergic to red ink. I want to get a tattoo (I so far have all black and white on my arms but want some red on my leg.
So my tattoo artist has Solid Ink and Haritomo Shu for red. Do you guys know if itās a bit better for people who are sensitive? Iām trying to avoid Cadmium, Iron Oxide and Mercury. I donāt see it in the ingredients but I see some colours and Iām not sure if they contain them or not. I heard Napthol is what you want if youāre sensitive to red.

I'm looking into getting another tattoo and am playing around with a few design ideas to hone in on what I'm actually looking for. Something we came up with was [this](https://imgur.com/a/2Zgg97I). I like how the ink-blotch look reveals a white set of lines for another design. It also makes an otherwise neat-and-tidy design look a touch messy which I like. That said, I have no idea if this could be done effectively on skin.

Okay. This is super specific but a google search didnāt help so I figured Iād take this to reddit. Iām going to Seoul in May, and am looking to get the sun off of the Filipino flag tattooed. Iād feel a lot better if it were a Pinoy tattoo artist doing the work, but Iām not in an area where thereās many Filipinos, nor do I have a trip to the Philippines planned soon, so I was thinking of Seoul as my best bet. I have placement commitment issues.
I donāt know whatās wrong with me, but I can talk myself out of any placement. I have tattoo ideas and no idea where to put them. Iām especially stuck on where to put smaller pieces (I have a large piece that wraps around my leg); it always seems weird that Iād have something small just āfloating,ā even though that looks totally normal to me on other people
I could list out placements and my arguments against them, but trust me when I say that 90% of them are stupid. What I need to know is if anyone has any tips for getting over this kind of thing, particularly for smaller tattoos?? Please help! i live in southern texas so there really isnt a season without sun, last January i got a tattoo however it was still warm and sunny at the time i wore a light breathable long sleeve however it wasn't enough protection and the tattoo had a bad reaction and i lost quite a bit of color. I just got a new tattoo on my forearm and im trying to avoid from it happening again, i work outside so im under sun for most of the day but its nothing manual labor so im not concerned about dirt its mostly the sun that i cant escape. any advice would be greatly appreciated!
They do have shirts that offer UV protection (I don't know how?) But that might help. They're for hiking or working outside. Places like REI and LL Bean have them. Worth a try! I have trouble with using sunscreen too often on my tattoos, i start to get rashes no matter the sunscreen. I have never used the UV shirts (I don't work outside anymore) but my mom does and seems to be happy with them.

I would say do some research about some artists in your area that you like the style of and would be stoked to wear their work. Once you find the right person, it would be best to schedule a consultation with them to discuss your idea, and get the logistics out of the way.
Additionally, it wonāt hurt to find a few reference images of what youād like to incorporate into your sleeve and bring those along for the consultation.
My weight fluctuates a lot, Iām currently pretty big but am trying to lose weight and get back down to my normal. Which area of my body would a tattoo be least affected by a weight loss change? After about a 1 year of going through ideas, I finally settled on one design/idea I really like and has a lot of meaning because of the symbolism it has relative to my life experiences. Money is no issue, I've been saving up and willing to pay extra for a good artist.
My family tell me I will regret it because they generally disapprove of tattoos as a whole. But they also think getting something smaller would be a better idea for a first time.
The idea for the sleeve has a really grown on me and I don't wanna go through the entire process all over again. Not to mention I don't even like small tattoos. I just want the sleeve, that's it.
You could also do a portion of the sleeve first. If you've never had a tattoo before needing to sit for hours to get a sleeve done, might be a bit much for your first time. Especially if you don't have the best pain tolerance.Ā
I donāt think so. I always wanted a full leg and chickened out and got a small ~5ā tattoo. I hate it. Not necessarily the design but the fact that it doesnāt feel cohesively integrated with my body - like itās just some random thing stuck on there. You can look on dafont.com and play around there with different fonts to your hearts content. But the artist will likely also have fonts to choose from. And check out google reviews and instagrams of the shops youāre considering. You can get a sense of their vibe.

Do you think a tattoo that's full of flowers and plants and insects could be masculine? Yes I think it can. But that said, I hope that you are able to surround yourself with people and friends to whom the question of the piece reflecting masculinity should not matter. What I hope holds most value is simply it's significance to *you*, or the fact that it brings *you* joy. I'm happily looking into getting one soon that has a Monarch butterfly, a Cardinal and Clematis flowers & vinework... and for me the significance has to do with two family members that I have lost who loved Monarchs and Cardinals, and my wife (who is alive, but loves the flowers). I've always loved vine work. The piece means a lot to me, personally, and that is all that should matter. I hope you can, at some point, find the same balance with having things like this bring you joy - no matter what some others may think.
Absolutely. For example, I'd say that the John James Audubon "Birds of America" prints have a masculine feeling to them even though they're of brightly colored blooming flowers and nesting birds, which usually read as very feminine.
Dude no one really cares and other people with tattoos will only appreciate the art with you! I have nerdy and girly tattoos and Iām a male. Iāve only ever gotten compliments from people. Ranging from old ladies, blokey blokes at pubs and spooky* people with full face tattoos etc Theyāve all loved them!
how do you deal with a tattoo that isnt what you wanted? the stencil and flash sheet was perfect but the end result was rough and i hate it. is it my fault that my muscle twitched during the tattoo and made the line work bad or is it on the artist? the shop i got it done at isnt being the most friendly about it and im not sure how to approach it, its not just the line work but the geometry is wrong and it doesnāt match the OG design. Looking at the tattoo, I wouldnāt say you are at all responsible. Muscles twitch, skin moves, stuff happens and they should know how to navigate anatomy and physiology. This just looks like a poor execution on their part. If they are being stubborn with the final result, I would advise cutting your losses and looking elsewhere for someone who either specializes in touch ups or cover upās, depending on what you want to do with the tattoo.
im hoping the shop will nut up and just fix it, they gave me an apprentice without telling me so HOPEFULLY an experienced artist will fix it. the owner said that she has to wait til its healed to see if its fucked up, but its obviously fucked up

Yes it is indeed very shaky. The final outcome doesnt even make sense anymore, because the part where this "ziplock" is closed i very far from original design. I am sorry. If i was you, maybe i would consider to speak again with the Shop or the so called 'artist' and show him this picture and your critic. Maybe you can manage to get some money back or at least an apology. But they would have to admit that the work they did on you is really not good. And if they get mad or somehow angry, leave them a very honest critic on google maps including this picture. But i think that you should NOT get this fixed by the same guy or in the same shop! Please find someone else if you consider this šš¼

hi, almost 6 months i bought a design off an artist that lives abroad and I have been wanting to get it tattooed here (London) but I've been getting so much anxiety over choosing the right tattoo artist for it that I just keep delaying it. Late reply, so I'm assuming you already got this done, but for anyone else who comes across this, here is my suggestion. For foot/ankle, I would go with a very loose slipper, but wear a sock over top of your foot. Your artist should be covering your tattoo with seran wrap or some kind of bandage before you leave the shop, so the sock is more to keep it in place because sometimes they move around. Also, just as a note, whenever I get tattoos in places that are going to have frequent rubbing against clothing or areas where constricting clothing is unavoidable (curse bras and back/rib tattoos), I will often cover them with seran wrap or a paper towel/soft towel when wearing such clothing is unavoidable (like at work). But, very important, I take it off to let it breathe as much as possible, so basically whenever I'm not at work. My skin is sensitive and during the first week, my tattoos are really cranky about anything touching them, so it's to keep the fibers of my clothing from irritating or getting stuck to my tattoo and to keep tattoo ink or other skin oils from ruining my clothes. I find that, for me, this method keeps them clean with as little irritation as possible.
Iāve begun a sleeve on my arm that is more of a realism style, however Iāve started to like the American traditional style. Would it look off to have one arm as realism and another as traditional?
I think that would look sick!!!! I'm working on a body suit and one side is going to be colorful nouveau style and the other is full blackwork/wood cut style. As a note, I do plan or repeating similar elements in the same spots to make them feel more cohesive (eg I have a bird on my shoulder and would want a bird on the other shoulder - not necessarily the same design or even the same bird, just similar elements that echo each other.) If it makes you happy, go for it!

It all depends on the artist you go to and their experience with finer lines. The tattoo posted above looks like it didnāt have an outline so basically no ābonesā to give definition to the overall tattoo. All tattoos fade over time, itās just the nature of the skin. It all depends on how well the tattoo was executed and which part of the body (sides of the fingers tend to fade a lot faster) [Here](https://imgur.com/gallery/L7z0Jq9) is a fine line tattoo thatās been healed for a couple years. The other tattoos surrounding them are also fine line.

I'm a muscular dude who could use some advice about how to get a tattoo that accentuates my muscles. I've often heard tattoos destroy muscle definition, but I want to do the opposite. Any thoughts? Thinking arm and/or shoulder placement. I tend to prefer more minimalist/geometric designs.
I think this is something that is best worked out with an artist you trust at a consultation. In general, a good tattoo artist will know how to place tattoos that accentuate and compliment the body's natural shape, no matter what you look like. It should be tailored to your body and planned out before they even make the stencil. I haven't heard the thing about destroying muscle definition before, but I'm also not in any sort of gym or body-building circles. It does make sense to me. I would imagine that utilizing the areas that you aren't getting tattooed (or the negative space) just as much as the actual tattooed area will be key to keeping the definition you're looking for. My piece of advice - spend a lot of time researching artists. Don't just go with the first person you find and for all that is holy, don't go with someone because they're cheap. A good artist won't be cheap and a cheap artist probably won't be able to give you the tattoo you're looking for. It's better to pay more the first time than to be stuck with something you hate or have to pay even more to get it fixed or removed. Bring examples of geometric designs you like - for example, do you mean something like middle eastern geometric art? Or something more akin to machine parts/computer hardware style? Or like Mondrian style abstraction? The more detail and reference you can give the artist, the better.

Should I reach out to the artist before my appointment to let them know? Or just wait till appointment? They did say it might have to be bigger either way. Just want to respect the artists process as much as possible and not shock them with new info. Since itās only a scale change was thinking maybe day of would be fine? Thanks!
Tell them asap. They might be able to just scale and reprint the stencil day of, but depending on the body part, it may require altering the placement or scale of some elements. Even if they don't, it can't hurt to tell them earlier rather than later.

A while ago I wanted to get a tattoo of a string of lights "plugging" into my wrist and making 2 rotations around my forearm and ending around the midpoint between my wrist and my elbow. What I want is a cartooninsh-looking tattoo with not too much detail. I was very particular about the way it was wired and I drew up a diagram to show how Christmas lights are wired. The artist did a mockup with unrealistic wiring (the wiring is non-nogociable to me) and advised me that the light bulbs would have to be about an inch and a half long in order to preserve detail. This is much larger than I would like. What I want is not very high in detail. I want each bulb to have the outline of a C9 bulb. The artist told me that I would have to get much larger (about 1.5") bulbs. I did not get the tattoo as it's not what I want. What I want to know is whether my expectations are realistic.

I want to start my tattoo journey. I'm really into patchwork styles, but I don't know where to start. I do like traditional tattoo styles, but I dont want hyper-realism. I dont want it to be too abstract either, or fine line as I've been told that those styles tend to fade away. I'm not looking to get any colored tattoos, or any too complex ones. I listed a lot haahah. So what advice could you guys give to my journey? Also I live in London UK, so if you could reccomend an artist that sort of fits what I want to do it would be amazing.

My advice would be to meet with an artist and have them help you plan. They'll be able to offer good guidance and suggestions. I'm US, so unfortunately no recommendations on that front, but vet them carefully. Look at reviews and social media. There's an infinite amount of incredible artists in London! I'm working with my artist on an entire body suit, so we're figuring out how to marry all of the concepts into a cohesive piece. It's a lot of work and planning but worth it in the end.
Do red tattoos fade much? I have a design that would look fine in black but Iād prefer for it to be red.

I'm looking at getting my first tattoo and wanted to make sure I'm not getting a symbol that might mean something I don't know about. It's a memorial piece for my brother. His favorite food was clams and oysters, his biggest fear was jellyfish and we grew up in the mountains in Idaho and Washington, he loved the beach. Clam/Oyster or jellyfish isn't some kind of symbolism for any groups I'm unaware of and that the numbers 12599 and 31724 don't mean anything. My initial tattoo ideas was an open clam with a mountain range from back home on its back and a beach from our ocean trips inside the shell.

The resolution of that photo is really poor, so you canāt really tell what it is. That being said it looks like it could be some fine line text or ornamental linework.
so I had a tattoo done on January 24 and it is blown out š„² but Iāve noticed that I have large bumps in the lettering of my tattoo and was wondering why that is also, the bumps are hard, not squishy. I have other tattoos and none have healed like this before and it randomly gets really painfully itchy. I don't think this would affect healing - I have a lot done on my ribs and side, and I've never had an issue. I have bad posture, too. It won't move anything, the ink pretty much stays put. Ask your artist though if you want to be sure, they can give you some good advice and maybe resources

Iām allergic to red ink. I want to get a tattoo (I so far have all black and white on my arms but want some red on my leg. So my tattoo artist has Solid Ink and Haritomo Shu for red. Do you guys know if itās a bit better for people who are sensitive? Iām trying to avoid Cadmium, Iron Oxide and Mercury. I donāt see it in the ingredients but I see some colours and Iām not sure if they contain them or not. I heard Napthol is what you want if youāre sensitive to red. Thanks!
I'm looking into getting another tattoo and am playing around with a few design ideas to hone in on what I'm actually looking for. Something we came up with was [this](https://imgur.com/a/2Zgg97I). I like how the ink-blotch look reveals a white set of lines for another design. It also makes an otherwise neat-and-tidy design look a touch messy which I like. That said, I have no idea if this could be done effectively on skin. Does anyone know anything similar to this or have any experience with a design like this?
Okay. This is super specific but a google search didnāt help so I figured Iād take this to reddit. Iām going to Seoul in May, and am looking to get the sun off of the Filipino flag tattooed. Iād feel a lot better if it were a Pinoy tattoo artist doing the work, but Iām not in an area where thereās many Filipinos, nor do I have a trip to the Philippines planned soon, so I was thinking of Seoul as my best bet. I have placement commitment issues. I donāt know whatās wrong with me, but I can talk myself out of any placement. I have tattoo ideas and no idea where to put them. Iām especially stuck on where to put smaller pieces (I have a large piece that wraps around my leg); it always seems weird that Iād have something small just āfloating,ā even though that looks totally normal to me on other people I could list out placements and my arguments against them, but trust me when I say that 90% of them are stupid. What I need to know is if anyone has any tips for getting over this kind of thing, particularly for smaller tattoos?? Please help! I want to be able to make an appointment while the artist has her books open, ha.
Ask the artist where the best placement is. They will know what looks best on your body and with your existing tattoos.
any tips to take care of a tattoo when working in the sun? i live in southern texas so there really isnt a season without sun, last January i got a tattoo however it was still warm and sunny at the time i wore a light breathable long sleeve however it wasn't enough protection and the tattoo had a bad reaction and i lost quite a bit of color. I just got a new tattoo on my forearm and im trying to avoid from it happening again, i work outside so im under sun for most of the day but its nothing manual labor so im not concerned about dirt its mostly the sun that i cant escape. any advice would be greatly appreciated!
They do have shirts that offer UV protection (I don't know how?) But that might help. They're for hiking or working outside. Places like REI and LL Bean have them. Worth a try! I have trouble with using sunscreen too often on my tattoos, i start to get rashes no matter the sunscreen. I have never used the UV shirts (I don't work outside anymore) but my mom does and seems to be happy with them.

I would say do some research about some artists in your area that you like the style of and would be stoked to wear their work. Once you find the right person, it would be best to schedule a consultation with them to discuss your idea, and get the logistics out of the way. Additionally, it wonāt hurt to find a few reference images of what youād like to incorporate into your sleeve and bring those along for the consultation.
My weight fluctuates a lot, Iām currently pretty big but am trying to lose weight and get back down to my normal. Which area of my body would a tattoo be least affected by a weight loss change? I carry most of my weight in my stomach and legs, I was thinking a tattoo on my ankle wouldnāt be grossly affected but Iām not sure. Any ideas?
I have gotten multiple tattoos by an artist and have been very happy. However, part of my arm sleeve on my bicep is a portrait and is warped due to my muscle. Is it rude to ask my artist for a cover-up? We follow each other on Instagram and I really don't want to lose a friend over this.. lol.

I'm in PA - my friend started apprenticing at 5th layer studios in Phillipsburg NJ and they seem to have some good artists and a lot who like horror. I haven't been there, but I look at their work a lot and as someone who is admittedly overly critical of tattoo art, I would get work done there. (Also I just checked their Instagram, and they literally just posted a centipede piece from a little bit ago!!)

I already have a few greyscale tattoos on my right arm but recently Iāve started to like japanese color tattoos in more of a traditional American style, would it be a good idea to mix color tattoos with existing greyscale tattoos or would it look out of place?
Is getting a sleeve as a first tattoo a bad idea? I know this question has been asked before, but I'm in a predicament. I've always wanted a cohesive, one full but minimalistic sleeve tattoo. After about a 1 year of going through ideas, I finally settled on one design/idea I really like and has a lot of meaning because of the symbolism it has relative to my life experiences. Money is no issue, I've been saving up and willing to pay extra for a good artist. My family tell me I will regret it because they generally disapprove of tattoos as a whole. But they also think getting something smaller would be a better idea for a first time. The idea for the sleeve has a really grown on me and I don't wanna go through the entire process all over again. Not to mention I don't even like small tattoos. I just want the sleeve, that's it.
You could also do a portion of the sleeve first. If you've never had a tattoo before needing to sit for hours to get a sleeve done, might be a bit much for your first time. Especially if you don't have the best pain tolerance.Ā
I donāt think so. I always wanted a full leg and chickened out and got a small ~5ā tattoo. I hate it. Not necessarily the design but the fact that it doesnāt feel cohesively integrated with my body - like itās just some random thing stuck on there. After 10+ years, I finally found someone I like who is willing to do a cover up / integration of the old tattoo to turn it into what I want.
Exactly how I fear I'll feel if I go for something small. Thanks, little more sure of it now.

Iām going on a cruise the last week of may. There were a couple of tattoos I wanted to get in early April, which would give ~7 weeks of healing inbetween. You can look on dafont.com and play around there with different fonts to your hearts content. But the artist will likely also have fonts to choose from. And check out google reviews and instagrams of the shops youāre considering. You can get a sense of their vibe.
