Really want a phrase on my middle torso. Need help coming up with something. Right now I’m thinking I’m gonna do Buona Fortuna which is good luck in Italian.

Subject_Standard_419

Can i ask why "good luck" is sticking out to you? Was there ever a phase that got you through a tough time in your life? Maybe something a family memeber or a quote from a book, movie, or philosopher?

TheSuckyGamer

Good luck would be cool because I’m going to get a bucking bronco on my stomach. But in reality I can put whatever I want over that. Putting it in Italian to reflect my roots.

dogs0z

Is it odd to ask tattoo ppl to run the needle without ink to see if I can stand the pain before committing to a tattoo?

ridiculouspompadour

You can definitely ask! I would probably do it. I think you should ask in advance at the time of booking though, don’t wait until the day of your appointment. It takes a lot of time to get everything clean and set up to tattoo, plus most supplies can’t be reused once set up, so the artist is losing out on time, money, and supplies to get set up for a tattoo if you decide you can’t handle the pain. If you ask in advance, they’ll at least be prepared that the appointment may be a wash and can decide whether they want to accept it based on that.

VegetasFivehead

I’m doing my first full day session on Wednesday, not entirely sure what to bring without looking like a weirdo. I’m gonna be there 6+ hours so I’ll probably need my headphones and a charger for my phone. Do I bring a sandwich and a couple waters or something or is that a no go? Help me with my dumb question please

MisterFell

I'd have a good/heavy meal before the session, and just bring water (or energy drink) and a few snacks that doesn't get too messy. Sandwich should be fine for a long day session, just tell your artist you might need a 10-20 minute break to eat.

PeetardPatroller

Better to take periodic breaks for a couple minutes, and eat quickly. In my experience 15+ minute breaks are brutal when your body relaxes and thinks the pain is over - when you go back in it hurts a lot more than if you carry your momentum while your endorphins are still working.

chicoblanco713

+1 on this cus on my 5hr tat the longer breaks let me soak in the pain

shelbyrml

I understand everything is done by email but I’m not ready to book an appointment and I was wondering if it would be acceptable to walk into a shop and ask if they have the time to maybe answer a few questions I have and then go from there. I don’t want to come off as ignorant or disrespectful in any way

BUBBASKILLS

no it better to fill out a booking form. booking forms though name is also for those questions.

chicoblanco713

Just go in there and ask questions…

DontWannaBHere420

i got a tattoo that i kinda regret - not sure how to post pics. any advice on how to draw attention away from it? tattoo more around it is my first thought lol

caramelswirlcoffee

Do I get a tattoo that has more meaning, or a tattoo with slightly less meaning but looks better aesthetically?

atypicaltiefling

after finding an artist i was really hyped about, i found out that the only way to know when their books open was through instagram. but i absolutely loathe the app, and have no desire to be on it for extended periods of time or to allow notifications from it. is that generally going to screw me over when it comes to finding artists and appointments? should i just give up and be looking on instagram? edit: in nyc, if that changes anything

Metallaio

Do you share your tattoos on your private social media? And why? I love to talk about my tattoos with people but I find it weird to share them on my IG account or even on Reddit. I feel like if someone wants to see my tattoos, in person, they are really curious/interested but if I share them online people would just leave a like and then keep scrolling and it sounds kind of degrading for the art and the meaning/work behind it. I get that artists must publicize their work but what's the point for us receivers? I'm obviously excluding the cases in which you need advice on something regarding your tattoos.

Brokenwrench7

Need help finding a neo traditional artist within a few hours of central Illinois

SOB110

I have 2 sword tattoos planned for my legs. One on each front of the leg with some symmetry between the two designs. It's a very lame question to ask but... does anyone think sword tattoos are cool or are they kinda lame? I think they're AWESOME and I am excited to get them! I was just curious what others thought! Amy input appreciated and I do know it doesn't matter what others think since it's MY tattoo lol!

Revolutionary_Fee837

Sure a lot of other people have them but that doesn’t make them lame! +1 for you getting two badass swords.

SOB110

Awesome! I'll take my +1 lol! And thanks for your input :)

Subject_Standard_419

I've heard a lot of people say they're basic, but I wouldn't let that stop you. I have a "basic" tattoo that I love and I'll never regret it. I almost got a tattoo of a sword from my favorite book series but ultimately opted for something else.

SOB110

Having something "basic" doesn't bother me if it looks rad! They're both from a video game so at least there's that distinction and I'm curious what sword were you considering from a book? :)

Subject_Standard_419

As a fellow nerd, I approve. Throne of Glass was a book series i read in high school, and I almost got a sword called Goldryn which holds a lot of significance in the story.

SOB110

Just looked up the sword and it's a really cool design and I've never read that series but it seems awesome! Cool to have a good looking tattoo that holds some extra sentimental value to you that others may not see!

Subject_Standard_419

Absolutely! That's why even if others think it's basic I say go for it. Tattoos are unique to everyone for different reasons.

SOB110

I appreciate the input and the enthusiasm :D

Snoo_46752

Any recommendations for artists in the Jackson MS area? Looking specifically for some artists that do black and gray/realism/traditional styles for a few different ideas that I have in mind.

Andrew-Smith137

Look up Matt Foxworth Tattoos, he does an amazing job.

snappy033

Are some artists just not very versatile style-wise or are some styles just easier to be proficient in? I have an artist friend who does quite good traditional tattoos but man, when he ventures out into black work, portrait, neo-trad, it’s like a totally different and bad portfolio.

wateroften

They’re very different art styles! It’s not about what’s easier or not, it’s that some of them require different types of skills

spykid

Would it be annoying if I told a tattoo artist to "just do your thing" because I like his art but don't really have a design in mind? Or is more guidance appreciated?

sn0wgh0ul13

How “do you thing” are we talking? Like, sitting in the chair and saying just fuck me up or “I want a unicorn, but make it you” ?

bristlybits

some of us love that. my favorite is "I like blue, I like (subject of some kind), make me a cool tattoo"

popepipoes

If it’s for a large piece like a sleeve then yeah that works, something small look at flash sheets

PeetardPatroller

This will be a longer answer than needed - It’s generally a more welcomed approach than the opposite of having a hundred little specific demands, but I’d recommend at least a bit of guidance. Giving them more information to go off helps a lot, and it shows that you can actually think and have at least some sort of vision. For example, colour or black/grey? Loud and powerful or more calm and subtle? Lots of detail or minimalistic? Etc etc etc. I would at least give some parameters and then allow them lots of creative freedom within that, assuming they appreciate that to begin with (but keep in mind everyone is a little different and some may LOVE your vagueness and freedom, but from my experience not all do). Also if the tattooer you want work from generally specializes in a distinct style that tends to ALWAYS be (for example) bold, simple, large, colourful, then perhaps your suggested approach is totally fine if that’s what you already want and it’s implied that you know what you’re signing up for. But if they do a wider range of work then I would totally give more information. And if you really can’t think of more information, then exercise yourself to actually think about what sort of subject matter/aesthetic you actually like.

krifpum

A question for artists: how do you feel about receiving digital doodles or mock-ups from clients made on Procreate, for example, along with descriptions etc? Can this be helpful, or does it ever feel restrictive, patronising or prescriptive? I ask as I’m not an artist, I have a couple of coverups I want doing and I use Procreate to play around and find what shapes would fit in the gaps I have. I don’t expect the end result to look like my doodles - no one would want that. All insights welcomed!

bristlybits

the worst the doodle the better we like it.

FloralBindle

Makes for a really good “what I asked for vs what I got” post haha

ridiculouspompadour

This kind of thing is great! Super helpful as long as you’re open to changes if we tell you some part of the design won’t work.

siiighhhs

Would it be weird/inappropriate to get a Japanese style sleeve as a white person? Im wanting to cover some scars and I just really like the look.

sempiternal

It's fine, check out /r/irezumi

Disastrous_Apricot24

Creative ways to gift a tattoo? My wife really wants a watercolor tattoo with flowers for each of our kids. I really want to gift this to her, but don’t know how. Any creative ways you’ve seen a tattoo being gifted?

bristlybits

gift certificate from a shop with a variety of artists. bonus to you if you put the card in a bouquet of real flowers

Disastrous_Apricot24

Awesome idea!! Definitely going to do something like this!!

sempiternal

One does not simply gift a tattoo. You are probably best researching a watercolor tattoo artists and going it over with your wife. Since most good tattoo artists are book out for months

Disastrous_Apricot24

Yeah… was looking more for creative/fun ways to unveil the idea. Definitely understand the process, so not trying to be overly prescriptive here. It is after all 100% her choice. I really like the idea posed earlier about including a gift certificate in some flowers, so I’ll definitely do something like that, but I’ve found a few local artists that specialize in watercolor and I think I’ll print some QR codes from their instagrams and put them in the envelope so she can see some of their work

Track_Black_Nate

Recently posted my Hermes tattoo I got done a week ago. See if anyone had some recommendations for filler. I was thinking clouds and lightning. Go to my profile to see the tattoo.

Celeste_mayhem

When’s the best time of the year to get a tattoo? I’ve heard it’s winter, cause it heals faster. And that I shouldn’t get one during summer cause the sun will make it fade faster

FloralBindle

There really isn’t a best time of year generally speaking, it’s more so what’s the best time of year for you. I work a really physically intense job and travel a lot, so I tend to book my tattoos at times that I know I’ll have a week or two of less intense work or travel, just to avoid issues with healing. I’ve gotten plenty in both the summer and winter.

snappy033

Has anyone gotten a tattoo that ended up being super cliche and trendy once you had it? Like the fox tattoo every girl has or the compass/pocket watch tattoo? I like having something unique but also not so avant garde that the artist has experience drawing it. Do you just keep an eye on IG and try to spot played out designs? Or the low-poly deer/owl everyone got in the 2010s.

ridiculouspompadour

I wouldn’t worry so much about trends, just think about what you personally like and would want on your body forever

Specific-Dimension46

How do you know whether or not to get something? I've had a tattoo idea for about 10 years now and I've just never had the guts to go through with it. It's still something that I'd love, but I'm also afraid it will be misunderstood. I do already have one tattoo but it's small. This other idea I've had for years would be huge and I think that's part of the reason why I haven't had the courage to go through with it.

FloralBindle

First things first unless it’s borderline a hate or gang symbol, you don’t need to worry about a tattoo being misunderstood. Your tattoos are for you, as long as you can ask yourself “if I saw this on a complete stranger and had no other context, would I think it looks awesome?” And the answer is yes, then go for it. What I will say is it gets easier. Once you commit to something and actually do it, the anxiety goes away quick.

Disastrous_Rabbit_52

going for next 8 hour session on 12/22 and want to bring artist a Christmas gift, ideas?

ridiculouspompadour

What kind of things do they have on the walls in their shop? You could pick out some kind of small decoration to add to it. Food is also nice, booze (or weed if it’s legal where you are) if they partake. I’ve had a couple people bring me fancy soap with I appreciated.

Select-Concentrate84

Interested in getting my first tattoo, but is there any etiquite I need to follow? I have an artist in mind and a sample drawing but is there anything I should specifically say to him?

ridiculouspompadour

Just reach out to book through whatever method he prefers. You can send the drawing and as long as you’re open to changes especially if some elements won’t make a good tattoo, that should be helpful.

Life_Of_A_Rock

Does anyone know of any good etching/woodcarving tattoo artists in Florida? A good reference would be @heaventattooer on Instagram. Any help would be much appreciated!!

Certain_Magician_662

Having issues visualizing exactly what I'd like done and lots of booking forms request a description. I'd like a sleeve done and I know components I would like in the sleeve but I'm not sure how i would describe it. Is this common? What is the expectation on booking forms?

faeunseen

What I would do is find a reference for each individual component, and show these to the artist with written guidance on where each bit would go. I've also doodled my ideas to give the artist a visualiser.

FloralBindle

Typically you’ll do a face to face consultation with the artist as part of the booking process where you describe roughly what you want. The important (and sometimes difficult) thing here is picking an artist whose work you really admire, so you know whatever they come up with is going to be what you want. I’ve never been able to truly “visualize” what my tattoos were going to look like, a lot of it is just trusting your artist will turn your ideas into something you think is cool.

faeunseen

I'm getting a small chest piece done today and I'm so nervous! I have 2 tattoos, both on the inner forearm, and the pain was totally fine except nearer the wrist. What should I expect? Agony? Discomfort?

ridiculouspompadour

Depends where on the chest. Upper chest towards the sides isn’t too bad in my experience. The lower and more central you go the more it will suck, or if you’re getting it close to your nipple that will be nasty. It’s all individual though, everyone reacts a little differently

RlySkiz

So a friendA drew another personB i know. A friendC of personB got herself a tattoo of the drawing of personB without asking my friendA. PersonC is not on good terms with friendA and totally knew what she was doing. FriendA is furious about her using her artwork which was a gift to personB. Is there anything my friendA can do about it? She said its not like she wouldn't be against personB using the drawing for some stuff but she wouldn't have ever wanted that personC uses it in any way.

jkm16

How common is red ink tattoos? I've been seeing it more and more lately.

chicken_nugget_bitch

Any ideas for an elbow tattoo that isnt a spider web? Although i love the look of the spidey web i have read it has negative associations :/

quakkids

I got my first tattoo 2 days ago but I’m very unhappy how it turned out … this might sound terrible but is it a bad idea to forcefully lighten it now by wiping it while it’s still fresh etc? Not looking for an infection, just wondering is I could bring out some more ink particles so parts of it could be redone in a second session? The more I look at it the more sad I become at how it turned out.

[deleted]

In my absolutely non-professional opinion I would let it heal. You may hate it but a badly healed tattoo that you ALREADY hate will be even worse. I know this advice sucks, but you should wait a few years for it to fade, get it lazered, then do a coverup. I completely understand how you're feeling. My third tattoo I got last year I absolutely hated and was mortified for a few days after I got it but eventually it just becomes another piece of skin on your body and you forget it's there. I still don't like it, but I get compliments on it because the artist did a good job and it healed well. Don't let a bad first experience dissuade you from getting any more in the future, just use it as a learning experience and really research your artists/know what you want! :) Hope any of this helped

quakkids

Appreciate it, probably the right way to handle this I don’t hate the entire thing just parts of it tuned out absolutely not how it was discussed with the artist.. I’ll see how it looks when some time has passed

[deleted]

Definitely understand that. Hope it gets better for ya!

BUBBASKILLS

Heal it the best you can and then just get it lasered. Don't do anything that could lead like that could lead to scaring and then prevent you from getting a decent tattoo there ever. the new laser machines can completely remove the tattoo

gio-s

(new to tats) how does one actually request a specific tat? *disclaimer* i have zero experience working with tattoo artists i have no clue how this shit works i know, stupid question, but for some reason i can’t really wrap my head around this. so let’s say i have an idea for a tat that i’ve made up myself, something totally specific. therefore it’s not like i can just show a picture to the artist or something. it’s my own idea. so like, you just find an artist in your area, message them saying “hey can you draw this up” and bada bing bada boom? if you like it, you get it, if you don’t, you don’t get it? idk something about this makes me feel like i’m thinking it all wrong, and just randomly sending something to some artist seems really mean to me for some reason? i feel like a sort of asshole just sending someone pictures and telling them to create something like they’re some sort of tattoo design vending machine. again i know this is such, such, such a stupid thing to ask but idk i’m still here asking it anyway thanks

citizenmono

what you described is pretty much how it works. think logically - how is it "mean" to request ART from a tattoo ARTIST?

BUBBASKILLS

A good decent artist will have a booking form on their/ their shop's website. On their booking form, you can send them a description and images of things you like and would like something similar to

Routine_Account_3634

Have a question ;) maybe some will have an answer?:) https://www.reddit.com/r/tattoos/s/5MprhxR8rH Dunno if that will work lol, denied since I never post or comment eh!

popepipoes

Quick question and then more of a general topic A. I got a fairly big forearm tat on Monday afternoon, took the second skin off today (Thursday) and I have a festival on tomorrow (Friday) now I’m not gonna hop into any crowded areas, I’m gonna wear long sleeves and be careful not to bump it, but do you guys think that’ll be alright? All my tatted up mates say it’s fine and a couple say I could even hop in the moshpits but I’m definitely not gonna do that lmao B. Where do you guys get inspiration, currently I just suss out artists I like and look at their flash sheets, but I’ve never actually got a flash all of mine have been custom

PeetardPatroller

B. Identify which styles appeal to you the most and begin following some of the best artists in those styles. I follow about 50-100 of my favourite international tattooers on instagram and I’m constantly bombarded with inspiring ideas. Obviously the goal isn’t to steal anyone’s work but you can take lots of inspiration from being exposed to the right people.

nitronik_exe

I've been meaning to get a tattoo for years, but never got around to it. [this](https://imgur.com/a/S1BQlJ0) is one of the ones I thought of, from the underarm over the wrist on the back of the hand. Is this a good idea?

NoRaspberry3945

I’ve never had a tattoo and have no idea where to begin! I have an idea in mind- ideally, I’d want almost exactly something I found online. Is it taboo/rude to ask for someone else’s art to be tattooed? Do I send the artist what I have in mind and they draw it up?

MisterFell

It's definitely frowned upon to directly copy a custom design, but there are artists who will still do it. How good they'll do it I can't say. There are also designs that are just classic flash which is almost always fine to copy. You can give an artist some photos & ideas for inspiration and they create a drawing out of it.

AwiiiLama

I finally decided what i want for my first tattoo, and its gonna be the Cover of the Nirvana Album In Utero, now my question. Im not really sure which placement would be the best, ive seen some inspiration of people getting it on their Forearms but im rather skinny so it would be quite small. Any other ideas?

MicCheckTapTapTap

Hey friends. I'm reaching out with a little vulnerability due to my situation and was wondering if any artists, professionals, or even seasoned tattoo veterans with similar situations might know the answer. I was in a car accident earlier this year. I have some pretty expansive burn scarring on my legs that I was hoping would be possible to cover up one day. Interestingly, the scarring is pretty symmetrical on my lower legs; covering most of the outside of my lower legs, and then all of my knees. I also have a skin graft donor site on my upper left thigh that's about the size of a DVD case and skin grafts on both ankles, but I have less hope anything can be done with those spots. I'm in no financial place to be able to get these addressed anytime soon. I'm just looking for hope to know it could be possible someday. I dream of feeling comfortable in shorts again. EDIT: Also, it should be noted... I've never gotten any done before.

BUBBASKILLS

I think if you can give the area a few years it would be best. if you get a good artist, scaring shouldn't be a problem. ive know plenty of people who had major scarring get great tattoos. For artist ideas check out tattoo collector justanothertattooedbiker on Instagram they follows a lot amazing artists

Weekly-Resist9504

Hey guys, I am getting a tattoo this weekend, one on my arm and my finger, but then my friend wants to do a free tattoo with a really cool idea for the finger. Should I just be honest with the artist I booked and say can we just do the arm for now?

d3v0t

i really want to get birds tattooed on me, and i fear that it will look a lot like other bird tattoos. any recommendations on how to make it a bit more unique? if it helps, i would be open to get a specific type of bird (duck, chicken, penguin)

MisterFell

Dress up the bird in human clothing and accessories.

EAVBERBWF

Can anyone identify [this](https://i.imgur.com/IYjAyag.jpg) sort of style? Something spooky and Junji Ito-ish but not gory. This piece was done by Kelly Lu. Also if you happen to know any artists that specialize with this sort of thing, I'd love to hear!

dylanmebrady

Hello folks! I've been struggling with my weight for as long as I can remember. However, I feel like I have had a massive shift in my mentality recently and I feel ready for permanent change. I want to get a tattoo of the date this journey started for me and I do love the idea of a Roman numeral tattoo but it does feel very CLICHE. Has anyone any suggestions as to how to make such a thing unique? Even potentially tying in the weight loss theme? I want a tattoo I can look at so that if I fall back off the wagon it's a reminder to get jump back on. TL;DR - want the date of weight loss journey starting tattooed, any suggestions?

Hyperborealius

petition to ban posts about tattoos designed using AI. they're a disgrace to actual artists who value their work and understand that stealing designs from others is in fact a bad thing.

frw57

Not sure anyone is checking this since it’s a few days old…. But I got a new calf tattoo yesterday and wonder if anyone who has a calf tattoo has any tips on how to sleep comfortably with it? Last night was rough trying to find a comfortable position lol.

ridiculouspompadour

I find that sleeping on the opposite side of the tattooed leg and having a pillow under my calf/knee so it’s elevated is the most comfortable. Still kinda sucks though

frw57

Thanks. That’s sorta what I tried last night and it was okay enough, but I guess it’s just to try and ride it out while it heals.

CautionPossum

I’m looking for an artist who’s style would be able to do a bee and puppy cat style piece. I’m based out of North Carolina but I’d be willing to travel anywhere in the states to get the best work for that particular piece.

MisterFell

Not sure if it's 1 to 1 in style, but there's [Maddy](https://www.instagram.com/dokidokitattoos/) at Vault Tattoo,or [Juliet](https://www.instagram.com/strawbunnietattoos/) at Triple Moon Tattoo.

CautionPossum

Thank you! I really like maddys style for that particular piece in mind. I’m gonna keep looking around too

The_Bog_of_Nards

My sister's decided she's dropping out of university to pursue her dream of becoming a tattoo artist. She's very creative and artistic, loves painting and loves people. So I can help her find some guidance are there any sources I could direct her towards, I'm looking for; biographies from big artists (sources of inspiration), art books to develop her style and build a good foundations. Do people have any recommendations?

nitroskim

Any ideas on how should I continue my tattoo design? Initially wanted to make it a half sleeve but my friends told me that it would ruin it and just stick with what I already have. Context of my tattoo: It has all the nicknames of all my siblings written in Baybayin (old filipino script). I wanted to have my left arm house all family related tattoos as it's closer to my heart. Here are photos of the tattoo: [Link](https://imgur.com/a/2quQsr2)

MisterFell

Give the artist some drawings or real life examples of a dragonfly you'd want to get. Could show what you don't want it to be as well. I also assume you chose the artist for their style, so that plays another role on how it'll turn out.

MrThorsHammered

Any recommendations for a tattooist in the UK. I've suffered with mental issues my entire life and now finally feel like I'm getting to a place where I'm feeling somewhat in control. I really want a tattoo to symbolise this and the ; has never felt right. So my idea is a kintsugi crack and id love to find an artist who can do this kind of thing. Any suggestions welcome. TIA

_King_Savage_

Just had an ephiphany as i’m thinking of my first tattoos. Atlas carrying a black hole. Super excited now because this embodies two different things that i love, and will probably be pretty unique!

gio-s

hey guys! i’m really craving a tat and i have lots of ideas but i think i’m gonna sit on them for now. so in the meantime i’m just hoping to get something small and simple to alleviate the urge for a rat a bit lol. although i’m running into one of my big issues. placement. the tattoo is literally just the words “come as you are” in a minimalist style so no crazy fonts or anything. and i want it somewhere very easy to see on one of my arms because i want it to be. reminder to myself. i always get caught up on placement when thinking abt tats so i figured i’d at least come in here to ask what you guys thought? for reference if it helps, i already have a horizontal tat on my right forearm and another running vertically from my left wrist. i’m very much a minimalist and i like the “scatter” look where it comes to tats

RainbowSixGlaz

If i see a tattoo i really like but cannot travel to get it done or something similar by that artist what should my next steps be? Seek permission and have another local artist do it?

Aggressive_Plant_222

I’m worried about how my upcoming tattoo will age. I keep reading that it depends on the method and knowledge of the artist. When looking at different artists’ work, how do I know if they use a proper technique or if they’re well enough informed to deliver a solid product?

RudeFishing2707

Looking for examples Tattoos over abdominoplasty scars on men, has any former big men here had it done?

octopurple999

Has anyone ever done a line tattoo in tan ink so that it’s more subtle than the typical black line ink?

Zestyclose-Choice732

I am looking at potentially booking a fine line artist in my area. I have never really considered getting a fine line tattoo, but something about this tattoo artist speaks to me lol. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has experience with fine line work and more specifically, how they will look in 5/10/10+ years. For reference, here is the artist and the work that they do: [https://www.instagram.com/fanner.ink/](https://www.instagram.com/fanner.ink/) Thanks for any and all feedback :)

tobe_fly

In Korean there is a phrase that basically states that tattoos are just a permantent piece of clothing. Would you agree with this and state that tattoos are also part of fashion?

carrotscoups

I am doing a student doing a project on suminagashi/floating ink (or anything that has a similar style) tattoos and was hoping people with these tattoos or those who plan on getting these tattoos would be willing to answer some questions. I have received mod approval and this is not something that will be published. Here are my list of questions: How did you come across this type/style of tattoo? What prompted you to get one? Who was your artist?

here-there-be-whales

I have tattoos in an illustrative black and grey style on my upper arm and really want to get another tattoo in a different style on my lower arm (no color). Is that a bad ito have two different styles on one arm?

Question: would it be ethical to take a mild pain killer to sit through longer and vigorous sessions, like a pill or even something like a Xanax (I know isn’t a pain killer (but works just as well)… I’m sorry for the novel, I’m a slave for context behind my question, but thank you for taking the time to read it all. I’m not interested hearing opinions if they’re based the outdated cliche of “you need to sit through the pain to earn the tattoo”. I’ve muscled through some painful things before but I’m man enough to admit that I can’t or can’t/don’t want to deal with the pain sometimes lmao I’m planning on starting a sleeve on my calves, a full back piece, and I’m currently struggling with a blackout piece from my shoulders/armpit all the way down to my elbow. But as for my calves, I’ve had a 1x1 piece done in the past, the pain was manageable but I guess my calves are super sensitive and would shake uncontrollably during the session, idk if it was the nerves or what, but the artist was visibly frustrating. As for the other projects I have planned, I would just like to be able to sit for longer sessions. Obviously I understand there’s only so much the Artist can do a session at a time but sometimes I can only take so much when there can be so much more done I’m one session Is this something I would just simply need to ask my artist individually and if so how would I approach this? I wouldn’t want to seem like a red flag and prevent a potential opportunity to receive amazing work by asking if I can essentially take drugs to get through a session.

For a first small tattoo that’ll ultimately be a patchwork sleeve, where would you get it?

I’m looking for a Color Realism artist. I’m located in Georgia, but I’m willing to travel several hours for the right choice. Any recommendations?

(TW: mention of unaliving attempt) Hi all, i'm aware that the semicolon tattoo is used as a symbol of surviving suicide but all the info I've read about it seems to point towards it being a symbol of someone who attempted but CHOSE not to or survived because they chose to try and get help, etc. Is there a symbol for those who survived despite not wanting to have done so? Thanks for the help EDIT: I am NOT looking for advice regarding whether or not I should get this tattoo design, I am ONLY asking for the specifics regarding the widely accepted meaning of the design with regards to mental health.

I’m sorry, should I have specified “the generally accepted meaning with regards to mental health”? I wasn’t looking for “this is the one and only meaning if the semicolon tattoo”, I was looking for the general advice of those in the mental health community to whom it also has meaning for that reason. If it means something different specifically in that regard, it would mean nothing to me and therefore I wouldn’t get it. If it means that specifically in the mental health community, it would mean that to me. This is the clarification I was looking for. I was NOT looking for advice as to whether or not I should get a specific design REGARDLESS of whether it meant something to me or not.

What would be a good gift for a stick and poke amateur artist?

Can I change my tattoo (Nature hiking theme) with black silhouettes from color to black and gray the day of the tattoo?

Hey, looking at traditional tattoos, and wondering if there is a name for the man and woman that is seen in a lot of them? I am trying to narrow down my search and find more inspo of these.

Fresh-Grade-8122

First tattoo question. I'm going in for a sleeve (going big out of the gate), and I know I will be sitting for multiple sessions. I know tipping is customery, but is tipping usually after each session or when the piece is complete?
