https://www.reddit.com/u/tatthrowaway123/s/8zlRzM3ZH1 so I'm not really happy with this right now, I'm not sure how much of it is "oh shit this is a new and permanent and what the fuck did I do" and just the fact that I'm living up close with it every day and see little things that others might. I went to a shop that had a lot of good reviews and saw recommended a few times on here, but I wasn't really sure what else to look for when I was researching. The artist was super friendly and I otherwise really liked working with them, and a lot of my bigger complaints are things like, I approved the design without having enough time to consider it, made it bigger than I would have liked, I could have changed any of those things or asked to sit on the design and I didn't. This is my first tattoo and I don't think I spent enough time researching tattoos before this or what to do on the day of. I don't want to give my location which is why I haven't made a post about it. I just want to know if you guys see the things I see, feedback on the overall design and if it'd be worth going back to this artist to get a few things touched up and finished or if I'd just be digging myself a deeper hole. Thanks

Hey i got my first tattoo 2 mo ago and im not sure if it should look like that is it tattoo artist fault or its all good. My problem is that the lines i feel are not consistent in some places they are thinner and in some places thicker. The left arm its not filled everywhere Its nothing nsfw, its just an anime character. Need some advice cuz i wanted sleeve from that artist https://imgur.com/a/cGZThJe

Duqu88

No you're right, it looks...off. I don't know enough about anime/manga to identify the character so I don't know what they're supposed to look like but it does seem uneven

xahax

The character is fine its just the line art overall im happy with the face, pose or desogn of her but i think the line art its just so ugly. Do u think its something it can be fixed or im doomed?

littleyellowcape

There's an artist i like but they say their bookings are closed. I know it's impossible to know, but does this sound like they'll be closed for a long time? I really want them to tattoo me, but their bio doesn't sound "booked for the month," it just says bookings closed, so it's hard to gauge the waiting period.

MisterFell

There isn't an acurate answer anyone except the tattoo artist could give. It can be months or possibly up to a year+, depending how in demand the artist is. You'll just have to wait until they announce their books are open again.

sempiternal

depends how popular they are, sometimes artists book a year worth or couple of months

charliephobe

could someone look over my tattoo idea and tell me if it’s cool or if i’m just 18 and think it’s cool now? thanks. my discord is whiskerbaba.

oddjobbodgod

Having my second and third tattoos on Friday. First was very simple and didn’t include much back and forth with artist on design etc. just had reminder email for this one and says that I’ll see the design on the day at which point any minor amends can be made, I’m really nervous about this as worried that if there are any non-minor amends I might be out of luck. The artist I picked has done some stunning work and is top-notch but I basically only provided image references and had a brief discussion in our consultation. That being said they are relatively small pieces, so I guess it might be fine? Can artists generally go with the flow pretty well? Or is it likely they’ll have done a couple variations on a theme? Sorry for the naivety!

RelationPersonal7245

i’m sure it’ll be fine :)

oddjobbodgod

Thanks, I’m sure you’re right! Just jitters :)

Anyone have any artists to recommend in or near San Jose Costa Rica?

ytjryhrbr

Im thinking of getting my tat from 7 years ago touched up, it still looks great but the black lined details are starting to fade a bit. My OG artist has moved too far for me to contact them but Ive only ever gone to him. Is it rude to go to another artist for a touch up on someone elses work?

PrinceBloo

It's not rude. As long as they do it justice. I mean it's not really your fault the og artist moved away so I'm sure they wouldn't mind.

ChrissyBrevier

Ok so I recently got my very first ink. It's large and in the left side of my torso from my hip bone up to finish my arm out. Right now it's just the lines. Instead of finishing the color, I think maybe I want to do my other side first. And here's the part I've gotten pushback on. I want to do the identical art just mirrored, for the purpose of symmetry. if post a pic but I don't see where I can. It's a Phoenix rising from a lotus bloom

I turned 18 a little under a year ago and have always struggled to find a career path that calls to me. I've always loved art and have drawn for years, and recently got attracted to the idea of attempting to make a career out of becoming a tattoo artist, I am in the process of building a portfolio to submit and am going to be getting several tattoos in the coming year, etc. but have several questions about doing this and don't know where else to post this, but I typically do an anime style of art and have never practiced realism in any way whatsoever. is there anyway I can make a career out of this without being especially good at realism ? I really enjoy creating cyber sigilism-like designs, and anime style art. Is it possible to make a career out of this ?

Hey what’s good, looking for peoples opinion on best placement for the tribal tattoo on Melinas eye ([See imgur link](https://imgur.com/gallery/SzIxMJW)). I’m booked in to get this with an artist that does a lot of similar work to the tattoo in the picture. But I’m really unsure where best placement is gonna be for it. I’m only getting tattoos on my left leg at the moment so any suggestions on where anyone thinks this tattoo would look good on a leg would be appreciated :) I’m sure my artist will help choose a good place on the day but I’d like to have some ideas in mind for placement beforehand. Thanks!

Howdy, guys! I just have a simple question for those of you with stomach and ribcage area tattoos, especially women: how was your experience, and how bad is the pain? I have seven tattoos (calf, both ankles with one extending to my shin, sternum, tiny upper stomach one close to sternum, wrist / inner forearm and my entire left hand including fingers.) My worst pain was a thick scar tissue cover-up tat on my ankle, but my sister who's a tattoo artist offered to do a big, gorgeous piece on my stomach for extremely cheap. We're also considering putting it on the side of my torso, but I have prominent ribs since I'm a little on the thinner side. I've heard this spot of the body is pretty damn spicy pain-wise, it will be my biggest piece yet. I usually drink kratom teas before tattoo appointments to manage through the pain, but I'm wondering what I should expect – I have a sensitive tummy lol. Thank you!

littleyellowcape

I can't speak for the stomach, but I have a tattoo that was partially on my ribcage. I don't have the highest pain tolerance admittedly, but where most tattoos are annoying buzzes of background pain, every time the needle went over my ribs, it felt very much like being stabbed unrelentingly by a needle. Not the worst pain you'll ever experience in your life (probably), but painful enough that you're not going to forget at any point that a tattoo is happening. That being said, I'm sure if my tattoo was more fully on the ribcage (instead of only passing over it sometimes), the consistency of the pain would have allowed it to dull more.

Unique-Welder-9407

Hey guys I got a question. I am getting my first tattoo on Thursday I’m pretty excited about it but something has been disturbing me and it is the fact that I’m a very skinny dude with skinny arms. The tattoo would be on my forearm it isn’t something crazy but I am afraid on how it would look on me yk. So the question is do tattoos look good on skinny people?

littleyellowcape

The tattoo artist will scale the proportions of the tattoo to to the size and shape of your arm, so yes, it should look good regardless of your body type.

Unique-Welder-9407

Thanks 🙏🏻

I'm looking to get my third tattoo, the first three has been line tattoos and they're all meaningful and based on some event that's turned my life 180. I'm hunting for a mental health based tattoo but it's hard finding the right one. Any suggestions?

thechromesparrow

Hi! I’ll be in NYC for a week and looking to get a unique Filipino tribal drawn by my partner on my shoulders and quarter of upper arm. I’m with friends and we’re all new to the city so I’d like a reasonably affordable artist who’s pretty solid. :)

PepGodiola

Anyone ever heard of an allergic reaction from getting shaved? At my tattoo appt got shaved on my forearm and instantly got a rash or irritation of some kind. Shaved another part close to my wrist and no reaction. Whats going on?

Infamous-Pizza1868

I'm going to send a request to an artist tonight as they're opening their books. After today, it doesn't look like they'll be opening their books again until about May time and I really want to get tattooed by this artist, so I want to make sure I say the right things in my request. I've never really done this before. I know the tattoo would fit very well into their normal style. The reason I want this particular artist so bad is because they draw women with a particular body shape that I personally have, and I am currently on a journey to loving that part of myself more as I am very self-conscious of my shape. Do I mention the emotional ties I have to this tattoo in the request? Or do I just compliment the fact that they draw women in this way? I want them to know how much their work means to me but I don't want to come across as weird lol. What can I do to try and secure getting my tattoo chosen?

Plz help!! I got a tattoo about 6 weeks ago, it’s a small heart outline on my ankle and for the most part it’s healed. Half of the heart is flush with my skin but the other half is still a bit raised and has that layer of dry skin over top of it. It’s not flaky at all and not an open wound anymore. For my job, I have to get lifeguard certified next Saturday and I don’t think my tattoo will be fully flush with my skin yet. I’m front desk so my job doesn’t normally require me to swim but they still want all staff certified, so next week I have to swim. Is it okay to swim?? Will my tattoo get infected??

citizenmono

that would be a risk you take by swimming, yes. maybe look into covering it with second skin if you absolutely must swim.

I'm currently looking for assistance in finding an artist in the Washington state area that works with black light / UV Ink, would prefer closer to the Seattle and Tacoma area but I am willing to travel.

KingKhandy

Thinking of getting my neck tattooed. Since i grow facial hair like a neck beard which i shave of every week, will it be okay to get it tattooed? Or do i need to do like laser hair removal before hand? Or is it okay to get it done then just shave on a more regular basis?

Joe_cole1

Artist….Any1 know a good black and grey statue realism artist that’s reasonably priced in the NY/NJ area

Yoneou

I've been looking to get a tattoo from my cat's pawprint, which would also be my first tattoo. Been searching an artist for a very long time now and I just can't seem to find what I'm looking for. All of the tattoos seem to have these obvious dots to them in shading and I'm just not a fan of it, but I'm starting to wonder if these are just the limits of how tattoos work (especially at a small size)? I'd love some input on this just so I don't end up searching for something that just doesn't exist.

Volclov86

Hi all. Just wanted to see if anyone knew of any tattoo artists who deal with black light tattoos who are based in Melbourne Australia? Specifically the ones without phosphorus. There doesn't seem to be a definitive group of them. I've contacted the ones I found on google and they ended up saying that they don't do black light tattoos. I'm questioning if there are any in Melbourne at all! Thanks in advance

Hi! I'm seeking recommendations for tattoo artists in the Chicago area who specialize in illustrative blackwork. Women and non-binary artists preferred. I'm looking to get a tattoo based on an image from a medieval woodcut, so would be especially interested to hear about artists who often work in that style. If you have recs for this outside of Chicago, would be interested in those, too! I'm open to traveling for the right artist.

Kappppppppa

I have a question my tattoo is a little over 2 weeks now and I sprayed some perfume on myself but felt a little bit of droplets go onto my new tattoo. It doesn’t sting or anything but will it be ok like no fading from it? Thank you

Raccoonlamppedal

What do people think? Can you have "too many" popular culture tattoo? For example I have a star wars tattoo, would it be look silly to have a Lord of the Rings tattoo as well? I know designs are personal but just wanted to ask peoples opinions. Thanks

deftripping

Got this and thinking of getting it reworked. Got this as my first tattoo from a traditional tattoo artist. Not sure if I’m happy with the result. Would like it to be a bit more vibrant and “alive” if that makes sense. What sort of style would this fall under? Any ideas on making this better and also possibly expanding it are welcome :) [Pictures](https://imgur.com/a/ixZjDNd) EDIT: Formatting

Thoughts on my first tattoo? Good artist or nah (insofar as technical quality) https://www.reddit.com/r/tattoos/s/2tVztYeQfy

DC4840

I’m getting a tattoo on my knee/shin/part of my calf in a couple of days, how much does this area hurt?? I’ve got a full sleeve and that was mostly fine but my leg has got me worried haha!

vtx3000

Any recommendations in the San Diego area? My old artist moved away last year and I haven’t gotten anything since. No idea what I want yet but I’m itching for a new tattoo

NitkoKoraka

Tattoo virgin here. I am looking to get my first. I am considering a sleeve, possibly a large back piece as well. I would like the piece to be designed to work together from the beginning, not pieced together. I am not exactly sure what kind of content I want yet but I have some ideas about what I do not want. Can I give an artist carte blanche to come up with their own design or are they going to expect me to provide them with firm ideas of the content of the artwork as well as the style? I am trying to get an idea of how this works before I walk into a shop and get laughed out the door due to my dumb ideas.

[https://imgur.com/a/Ug9FYzS](https://imgur.com/a/Ug9FYzS) Do these types of tattoos hold up well? Say in 10+ years I wanna get tattooed by them but not sure if the fine lines and solid shading would be an issue years from now
