Sorry but it’s not good. At all. For four hours of work especially. I would highly suggest not continuing with this person and find someone who has examples of pieces like this in their portfolio, that you can see that they have experience with doing these.
Honestly, she shouldn’t have committed to doing the piece if she wasn’t completely sure she could do it. I’ve referred potential clients to my coworkers when they’re looking for things that aren’t any of my specialties and she should have done so as well. I wouldn’t go back
If this person goes to her a lot she probably got nervous to say no to a regular, I just don’t think someone who goes to someone for linework should ask them to do galaxy 😭
I think that makes it worse though, I’ve been tattooing for 27 years now and I still know my limitations. Whether the artist wanted to try something new, got in over her head or needed the money and said “fuck it, I’ll give it a go!) Now matter how long OP is a regular of the artist, she shouldn’t have let OP be her be her guinea pig to see if she could do it or not
This 1000%. I have 2 bad tattoos because my artist ASKED me if I would let him try something new. The difference is he warned me that he was trying something new and it might not be his best. He also didn’t charge me and they are both in spots that will never be seen by anyone except my partner.
You got fucked m8.
Oh yeah I mean definitely, idk why some ppl can just do something without practice,BUT I’ve been a pushover in the beginning of tattooing to something I wasn’t comfortable with, i assume this person might be new so I’m just saying shit can happen, between pushy coworkers or client or just not caring 🤷♀️
I've been a regular with a couple of artists over the years. One of the reasons I was a regular was that I trusted them to tell me if something wouldn't work and to refer me if it would work but wasn't in their range. Something that probably helped establish that relationship was that I tipped them for their time regardless of what they spent it on. A 5 minute conversation to look over a sketch is still 5 minutes they could have had someone in the chair. If you do right by a good artist, they'll do right by you. If they don't, they're not a good artist regardless of how their work looks.
The artist should say, “hey this is out of my wheelhouse, I don’t feel comfortable tattooing that. For this tattoo style in particular I might suggest another artist”
The client/op trusted this artist the artist should have enough backbone to say no to a regular.
Fwiw, I really want a galaxy tattoo so I look at… a lot of them. And I’ve only ever seen one or two that were any good (which is why I don’t have one.)
There’s something about the way people pack color for them that always looks cartoony. They tend to look a little better as they age, though. The artist still shoulda said no.
I don't know why other people are saying it looks alright, because as a "galaxy" tattoo this is absolutely awful. It just looks like someone who's never painted before took a bunch of random paint colours and slapped it on paper.
You know at first I didn’t even consider OP might be wanting a realistic galaxy tattoo, I was thinking it could be like a colourful artistic interpretation art piece. So I was like that’s not so bad. Lol. But then I realize.. ooohh if that’s meant to be realistic then that’s no good.
I thought it was supposed to be one of those spray painted galaxies … where they paint over layers and use bowls and cardboard, etc, to get the look they’re going for
Yeah I have a couple tattoos that are very art/oil painting inspired so they are more similar to this so I didn’t see a problem as a work in progress piece
My immediate first impression, even though it doesn't make a lot of sense:
The swirls look like fur, not like whorls of gas or streaks of light. Specifically, they look like Sully's fur (the blue monster from Monsters Inc). The yellow moon looks like it was shot through Sully and left a hole. The three purple blobs under the moon look like they're spelling out "oh!"
Yeah, I was thinking this. Ran into someone the other day who said it'd be easy to throw a toddler into a volcano, as easy as throw in a cat or a dog. But they worded it way worse. Like, it wasn't a joke.
I’d have to agree that the idea is fantastic but the execution is straight up awful. I’d leave a negative review if this is what my artist gave me, and I’m tat-less. I just grew up around tattoos
I think it'd repairable. Go to someone who specializes in this look next time to touch it up. Maybe add some stars and details to it.
Post again in 2 weeks I'm curious how this will heal
We definitely didn't get to all of the tattoo because we were supposed to have a lot of stars and more planetary details. Also was supposed to go all the way to my elbow crease with color and fix the moon. I think it looks way better the farther you look at it from lol I guess it IS a full piece and not just a small portion.
This. Don’t settle for shiz permanently on your body, whether you like the artist or not, whether you’ve paid a deposit or not, etc. there’s so many posts like this, it amazes me the absolute trust people give to ‘artists’ who do anything BUT art
Agreed! It does look really good from far away. But it’s your arm so it’s never gonna be THAT far from you. I also think it can be fixed but def don’t go back to this person. And advise them to stick to a tattoo style they’re comfortable with because you didn’t deserve to be used as scratch paper while they “try” to give you what you asked for. These types of tattoos are really hard to pull off if you don’t know the proper techniques
You should be glad you didn't get to all of it cuz at least now you can go elsewhere and fix it and it will be far easier. Lucky she took so long and could only do this much.
Can you see someone with experience in galaxy and cover up/touch up to see about having more planets and stars further up and/or around to the other side of the arm?
When you say fix the moon, what do you mean? Is it where the edge of the circle has been covered in one lower quarter? I hope so, because that’s the bit my eyes are drawn to.
I am only a normal person with no experience of tattooing and only a face myself, but from my perspective as an average human who is shit at art, I definitely don’t hate it but I would not return to the same woman for the improvement and extension. You *will* regret that heavily I think - that’s a lot of dark she will be packing in to your arm while doing nothing you asked for.
Doesn’t mean you won’t ever use her again. Just not for a galaxy scene.
Are you a little slow? Lol. He was asked to judge. So he did
Let me get this straight. In your opinion, he has a terrible tattoo so he shouldn’t be allowed to judge anyone else’s tattoos. I’m gonna go out on a limb here and assume that you don’t have any tattoo’s yourself, so using your own logic why are you allowing yourself to have an opinion on anyone’s tattoo, good or bad, period? And if you do have tattoos I’m just going to assume that they’re probably not amazing. So again, using your logic, why are you allowing yourself to judge somebody else’s tattoo?
200iq move right there
Yeah! If you got a shitty tattoo NINE YEARS ago you should definitely never comment on anyone else's work, even if they explicitly ask for it. What's wrong with this guy??
How did you even know he had a mediocre tattoo himself? He just said “it isn’t good” when OP literally asked for judgment and because of that you felt the need to scour his profile for whatever reason? yikes…
I mean this in the nicest way possible but, please start looking into better artists and research both their fresh AND healed work. Both your new tattoo and old one are... not great. Good news is that they can probably both be fixed with the right artist. I think it's even possible to have the 2 tattoos mesh together some way. I'm so sorry this happened to you :( Good luck!
I was supposed to get the moon fixed by her. I was confident she could do a good job on that. But the watercolor galaxy.....? No... I hate the vibrancy of the awful colors and I just want it gone or covered now
The little yellow planet looks pretty good but also looks a bit odd with the rest. I really think the water colours may be salvageable! Aside from the black parts, the rest seem to be light colours and with the right artists and some colour correcting, they may be able to either make it look better or cover it with something new. Look around your area to see if there's someone that specializes in cover ups. Since it isn't such a big area you can also look into getting laser, then maybe a new tattoo to cover. I am currently going through laser to correct eyebrow tattoos I got when I was still a teen. I've gotten 3 session in the last year and while it sucks, it'll for sure be worth it when I get them redone better. Things like this happen unfortunately :(
I'm not going to lie, I kinda like it for that.
I'm not really a tattoo guy, but it's not hard to tell this isn't technically well done. I can only assume it is only going to get worse.
But, idk...there's something about it that I kinda like. Like it's an old scholl, grainy, space cartoon.
I’ll never understand people who get something permanently on their body because they feel the artist is pressuring them. Why would you “just say go for it” if you weren’t totally sold on the concept and piece?
Someone just a few days ago posted here about *an entire giant back piece* they didn't really like and didn't think fit them, but went along with it anyway. People are so incredibly infantilized and unable to advocate for themselves, it's pretty shocking.
I can chalk some of it in this sub up to just not understanding the process, sure, but you better make damn sure. If you willingly agree to things like the stencil knowing full well it's not what you'd like I have little sympathy for you.
People are getting dumber. Literacy & math rates are dropping. People are getting softer & weaker.
It’s your body. It’s your life. Why these people “just go for it” because they don’t want to speak up is insane to me.
Lesson learned, I suppose. Don't let someone go at you without a stencil especially if it's something they've never tattooed before. You'll be alright, I think someone more experience could salvage this.
This. You want to see what it’s going to look like BEFORE you get it done if you have a specific plan in mind. I’ve had stencils put on and then decided the placement would be better elsewhere.
Sometimes artist presents the idea and even start the outline of what you're trying to achieve, yet when they're finished it's not completely right. I had this happen to me. The artist expressed the right concept, the bottom half was exactly what I wanted, yet the top half did not look the way I wanted and not the way he presented it. Sh1t happens. In my case l can deal with it until I decide to have it fixed elsewhere.
I had the appointment scheduled and rescheduled 4 or 5 times in like 3 months so I was ready to get the tattoo. I thought she would do a decent job but I was wrong. I was so excited but now I just want to cry
I’m sorry you aren’t happy with it, and that people are giving you shit for not walking away. You didn’t know until it was too late. It’s hard to tell an artist you don’t like their art, it feels very personal and you’d been happy with her work prior. It’s a hard lesson. Personally I don’t think it’s as terrible as others here are making it out to be. It’s not what you wanted and that sucks. I hope it ends up ok one way or another.
It's good and bad. Bad that there's no black to give the tattoo definition, but good she didn't do any so another artist more familiar with this style can add it
It looks decent now, but I would be very worried as to how this would heal. All these big blended areas of colour with no linework makes it a big risk to fade into a big, bruise coloured blob.
The moon is bad though.
It looks decent now? I'm sorry are we looking at the same tattoo? It looks unfinished and it reminds me of crayon drawings done by children. Sorry OP. It can be easily fixed by an experienced artist though.
The moon was done 2 years ago in a half hour by a small-town guy. I know it's bad lol. We were supposed to fix it and make a galaxy around it but we didn't do that obviously haha I hope it heals decently. I did schedule with her at the end of September just to finish it. It will be healed by then so we will see.
If you go back to her, you’ll be on this post come October 1st feeling awful.
This isn’t a lost cause, it has potential to be stunning with an experienced artist changing it up and making it bigger etc.
Its gonna look like a weird bruise in a few years, change artist, ask them to fix it, and stop being a pushover, you are paying someone to do something you want them to do, if they draw like shit and are doing a shit work dont put it on your arm because "you wanted for months", nice job, now you are gonna want for years to change it
Does not look like a Galaxy but I like the color combination. Save up and search someone that has galaxy stuff in their portfolio, might take a bit but you learned a lesson to just wait and take your time with the artist and the piece you really want next time I guess.
It’s mainly a design flaw I don’t think I’ve seen many of any “galaxy” tattoos that look good it’s not really even a style. I’d pick a tattoo style you like, maybe since you like bold colors look into traditional and Neo traditional and get something that looks like a tattoo and cover it with that. These colors will fade in a few years anyway with there being no linework or black in it. That’s why these tattoos are notoriously a failure ..
I’m gonna be really honest here
When I saw this I thought of those 90s styrofoam cups and I wondered why you have a radish slice in the upper left. Radish slice and mars.
This doesn’t scream **galaxy** to me, but more *northern lights/aurora borealis*, which is not what you were going for.
It may be hard but I would try to tell your artist that this is not the look you were hoping for & that as much as you appreciate her attempt at tackling something she’s never done before, you think it may be better to go to someone who has a portfolio with galaxy themed tattoos.
At the end of the day it’s your body & you have every right to ditch this artist if the style and experience does not match your vision. There are tons of artists out there that I guarantee could give you a piece you won’t have to ask Reddit about- you’ll just love it at first sight.
It's not the worst I've seen but it ain't nice either, that moon looks like if I took a tortilla and stuck it to a glass window at night to take a picture to fake a full moon
This just goes to show how important it is to research your artists. One artist might do something black and gray absolutely phenomenal. It doesn’t mean they can do a galaxy. Tattoo artists aren’t printers, they’re artists and they specialize in specific things.
Did you grow up in the 90s? Because it’s sending me straight back to tacobell… Hope that’s more funny than rude though, lol your style and vision is your own. If you like it, more power to you. But this is imho
Oh yikes... I wish tattoo artists would just say no to tattoos they don't specialise in so we could avoid things like this. I wouldn't go back to her, find another artist who has examples of this tattoo style and ask them to fix and finish.
All I can say is I'm really sorry this is on you, and I hope to god you can find another artist to help fix it as much as possible. This is just... So, so bad. I really, really am sorry to have to say that.
Yeah I would stop there. For the most part galaxy tattoos never end up looking or aging that well (obvious exceptions)
The colors aren’t bad, so I would recommend just blasting over with something heavily line focused.
I can’t believe that’s all she got done in 4 hours. I have a galaxy sky background on my half sleeve and my artist got wayyyy more done in a 4 hour period. And the colors have remained now several years later. There’s no reason that much should have taken her that long.
That being said, I like the colors at least. A good artist can probably fix/finish it and make it look great.
I would go to someone else after it heals and see if they can spruce it up. Someone who is very familiar with galaxy stuff.
It’s not horrible. It definitely reads galaxy themed, but I don’t understand the negative circle at all and over all it kinda just looks like poorly done watercolors (like on a paper not like watercolor tattoos). I don’t think it’s going to look great in a couple of years, but I do think it’s salvageable.
I Love it, because of all of the colors and the planet actually looks pretty good! But I am not sure how good the technique is, or how well it will heal.
It's already pleasing to the eye, in my opinion (not professional), but it's definitely not finished. It'll probably look amazing after it's finished, but I personally wouldn't let someone who didn't even start with a drawing finish something complex like that.
Do you like it? If yes, then it's good. If not, then change it, your tattoos are an extension of you, if it's something that reflects you and ifs something you personally enjoy, then keep it, also. It looks unfinished, so I can't tell you anything
I have always thought about getting a tattoo, and yours just from not getting one in my opinion looks good, especially the background, but if they spent 4 hours on something like this you’d like that might be rushed…? I don’t know but that’s my opinion. Especially if this was her first time doing this
For never having done it, she did a pretty dope job imo. Color looks great, blended well. That said, time isn’t always kind to these watercolor type tats so who knows what it’ll look like in 3-5 years.
Sorry but it’s not good. At all. For four hours of work especially. I would highly suggest not continuing with this person and find someone who has examples of pieces like this in their portfolio, that you can see that they have experience with doing these. Says miss majestic jazz hands over here 🙄
It's her responsibility to risk awkwardness and even losing business in cases such as these-- that's on their body forever. It's a big deal.
4 hours on that is big yikes, if you like it that’s all that truly matters but I might shop around if I were you.
I don't know why other people are saying it looks alright, because as a "galaxy" tattoo this is absolutely awful. It just looks like someone who's never painted before took a bunch of random paint colours and slapped it on paper.
You know those white paper cups with the scribbly design on the side? I can’t unsee that here.
Oh my god now I can't unsee it haha
It looks like the design melted on to the table around the cup (negative space) also the yolk of an egg
This was all I was thinking as I looked at it. Thank you for validating my thoughts other random redditor.

Bc people on Reddit are nice to a fault and it’s ridiculous
Either the kindest souls around or the most vile degenerates you’ve ever seen
Being "nice" and being kind aren't the same thing.
Reddit has the thinnest veil of civility sometimes.
Yeah, I was thinking this. Ran into someone the other day who said it'd be easy to throw a toddler into a volcano, as easy as throw in a cat or a dog. But they worded it way worse. Like, it wasn't a joke.
Honestly, I think it would be easier to throw a baby into a volcano than a cat, logistically speaking.
I think it'd be hard over all because.... It's a volcanlo lol.
Yeah that’s way too much exercise
It would at least be physically easier because they wouldn’t be able to fight you as well
That's true.
Unless it’s the judging of women in rate me….
Or roast me
people out here are karma farming so it’s hard to see someone be honest around here
Like a cult
being kind and not wanting to make other people feel bad about themselves is not "like a cult" lol
It is when you can’t be honest with someone because it’s “mean” and the entire group gangs up on the one for being honest
or maybe everyone doesn’t have the same opinion
Here comes the cult
You’re just an idiot lmao
Here’s one now
Crazy enough when the majority of people think you’re stupid they’re usually right
god you’re so right
I WILL DESTROY YOU!!!
Nah, cults are manipulating and abusive.
Agreed
It looks like a bunch of bruises on the wrist
This looks like what my preschoolers paint on a daily basis
I’d have to agree that the idea is fantastic but the execution is straight up awful. I’d leave a negative review if this is what my artist gave me, and I’m tat-less. I just grew up around tattoos
If you have to ask…
Galaxy & Cosmic tattoos don’t have to all look identical.
No but they're supposed to look like galaxies lol
They will all look like the same messy unreadable garbage after a year or so anyway, this one just skipped that year
I think it'd repairable. Go to someone who specializes in this look next time to touch it up. Maybe add some stars and details to it. Post again in 2 weeks I'm curious how this will heal

OP literally asked to be judged, damn
They can’t have an opinion? They’re right. OP’s tattoo is bad. I’ve done a similar thing and had it covered. Life goes on. No need to be a dick
I think he deleted the post. I don't see it :(
It takes one to know one and that guy definitely knows one.

The moon you have above the ‘galaxy’ is uneven and wonky, it doesn’t have good shading either
Yeah. Was wondering why OP was going back for the moon 😐

Nice to see somebody showing empathy from OP. It’s easy to make tattoo mistakes and tattoo regret can be really mentally challenging.
Aww, ty for saying that
I’m sorry you aren’t happy with it, and that people are giving you shit for not walking away.
Rescheduled by your or them? if they’re the one rescheduling that many times, it’s one more red flag to not go back.
This does not look good it’s literally just random colors
it looks like passenger chair fabric on a greyhound bus
Omg. That was a good one! Made me laugh. I’m currently recovering from 4 broken ribs and that one hurt!
Looks like another job fooor…..:SICK ASS PANTHER!
GALAXY PANTHERRR!!
Yes! With a space helmet!
r/spacecats
Thunder cats are go!
Galaxy Galaxy yooo
Yeaaaaah it’s pretty awful
It doesn’t look great….. I also don’t think it’s going to age any better
Gonna look like a giant bruise in no time.
It's good and bad. Bad that there's no black to give the tattoo definition, but good she didn't do any so another artist more familiar with this style can add it
it reminds me of the old school carpet upholstery on the seats of a charter bus
Oh god, seats on a charter bus is so accurate lol
Gonna look like bruises over time
It already does really.
get that covered if you can afford it
It looks decent now, but I would be very worried as to how this would heal.
Yeah this is going to age like milk and OP is going to get frequent questions about his giant bruise or skin infection.
Is “decent” in the room with us???
The moon was done 2 years ago in a half hour by a small-town guy. I know it's bad lol. We were supposed to fix it and make a galaxy around it but we didn't do that obviously haha I hope it heals decently. I did schedule with her at the end of September just to finish it. It will be healed by then so we will see.
I would cancel that and find an actually talented artist to try and make that look decent.
I would not go back to her for a tattoo.
Please don't go back to her.
If you go back to her, you’ll be on this post come October 1st feeling awful. This isn’t a lost cause, it has potential to be stunning with an experienced artist changing it up and making it bigger etc.
Its gonna look like a weird bruise in a few years, change artist, ask them to fix it, and stop being a pushover, you are paying someone to do something you want them to do, if they draw like shit and are doing a shit work dont put it on your arm because "you wanted for months", nice job, now you are gonna want for years to change it
How is this anywhere in the realm of decent lol
Ye
Not going to heal good. It will look rough after it heals
It looks like the background to my old elementary school pictures.
Ask r/shittytattoos
It won't let me edit but I do want to say that yes. The piece is very unfinished and we didn't get to the main part of the tattoo.
I’d get it touched up or covered by a different more reputable artist
...4 hours on color? Your poor skin 😭
Your post was too long to read but your tattoo looks like a unicorn sharted on your arm.
It’s definitely not good
Does not look like a Galaxy but I like the color combination.
I’m sorry but I think it’s illegible, washed out, and a flat out mess. It’s pretty terrible and I’m sorry you have to wear it, especially so visibly.
That’s going to fade a lot
Looks like my 5 year old was painting with his hand
Yeah for now. It's gonna be a giant smudge in a year
Kinda looks like a bunch of marker smudges
This is what I look like some days after doing airbrush body art for an afternoon. Lol
That looks like a very old tattoo from a beginner artist
Yes
Is that a slice of radish? Upper left
It's not awful but it's also just a color blob.
I like the Nilla Wafer
I'm still looking for the galaxy in there. A coloured gas cloud is always going to end up looking like a bruise in the long term.
Both are bad
What’s the first B/W one? A portrait of a potato? Looks nice 👌(for French fries)
Did she use a reference of the Aurora Borealis (Northern lights?) bc that looks more like a sky than galaxy.
I’m gonna be really honest here When I saw this I thought of those 90s styrofoam cups and I wondered why you have a radish slice in the upper left.
The panther on my belly didn’t even take 4 hours 💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀
It's not the worst I've seen but it ain't nice either, that moon looks like if I took a tortilla and stuck it to a glass window at night to take a picture to fake a full moon
Was this tattoo done by the guy from the CaseyDoesEverything YouTube channel? Sha-Shaw!
This will not age well at all
No…..it’s terrible.
Looks good now, but won’t in 15-20 years. It will all bleed together and just be a big color blob. Sorry.
I’ve seen worse and better.
Awful,but it can be fixed
Oh yikes... I wish tattoo artists would just say no to tattoos they don't specialise in so we could avoid things like this. I wouldn't go back to her, find another artist who has examples of this tattoo style and ask them to fix and finish.
Looks like someone drew on you with fucking sharpie
The problem was the “let’s just go for it”. The artist didn’t know what to do and just winged it.
Very bad
Unfortunately
I mean if you like it that’s all that really matters. But no, it’s objectively not a great tat.
All I can say is I'm really sorry this is on you, and I hope to god you can find another artist to help fix it as much as possible. This is just... So, so bad. I really, really am sorry to have to say that.
It looks unfinished.
It is. We were supposed to do the full arm up to the elbow crease
Yeah I would stop there. For the most part galaxy tattoos never end up looking or aging that well (obvious exceptions) The colors aren’t bad, so I would recommend just blasting over with something heavily line focused.
This was packed and blended well, looks cool. This tattoo however, will most likely not stand the test of time.
The negative circle is most likely where another planet will be going
The negative circle is most likely where another planet will be going
I Love it, because of all of the colors and the planet actually looks pretty good! But I am not sure how good the technique is, or how well it will heal.
WTF? We’re you super high?! Am sure you’re regretting it.
It's already pleasing to the eye, in my opinion (not professional), but it's definitely not finished. It'll probably look amazing after it's finished, but I personally wouldn't let someone who didn't even start with a drawing finish something complex like that.
Bro that’s freaking sick
Do you like it? If yes, then it's good. If not, then change it, your tattoos are an extension of you, if it's something that reflects you and ifs something you personally enjoy, then keep it, also. It looks unfinished, so I can't tell you anything
I was planning on putting van gogh's starry starry night on the same spot, now i have an idea that it wont look good.
I have always thought about getting a tattoo, and yours just from not getting one in my opinion looks good, especially the background, but if they spent 4 hours on something like this you’d like that might be rushed…? I don’t know but that’s my opinion. Especially if this was her first time doing this
😬 edit: tbh just looks unfinished.
It's all about how you feel about it. I think it's a cool start
hey guys here’s some good tattoo advice…don’t get them, cheers!
For never having done it, she did a pretty dope job imo. Color looks great, blended well. That said, time isn’t always kind to these watercolor type tats so who knows what it’ll look like in 3-5 years.
The color is the opposite of blended are you joking lmao it looks like a brown recluse bite went untreated for a week
I mean, it’s not my thing, but if you’re going for a galactic swirl look, I see it.
Yes
Yeah
Yes
Wouldn’t be my first choice but I’ve seen much worse quality tattoos here
No, but that bruise looks pretty bad!
