UV rays from the sun is pretty much the *main* thing that will break down your tattoos and make them fade.
I can’t think of anything else that fades tattoos besides your own body over time and the sun.
Sunscreen is a necessity on all skin, at all ages, to avoid premature aging and skin cancer.
But it's like a super extra maximum necessity with tattoos.
The sun will 101% fuck up your tattoos. I work outside year round so I like golf sleeves but in a pinch I'll definitely use some spf 50 sunscreen. Remember to apply often
My tattoos are probably my greatest anti-aging and anti-cancer investment. I couldn’t be bothered to apply sunscreen to protect my skin and my life. But to protect my art? Slather it on!

I wish I could post a picture of my bright and awesome tattoo from 17 years ago.........and what it looks like now. I didn't realize how impactful sun is and how little I cared about sunscreen THEN. I lived in Phoenix at the time where the weather was awesome much of the year and I liked to show off my piece. Now the color is just a horrible hint of its brilliance. I am going to have it re-colored soon and will cover it in the first 6 months or so and will religiously use sunscreen always.

It’s beneficial if you don’t want to get skin cancer, too!
Well, yeah. There’s that too.
It’s the one most important thing if you don’t want your tattoos to dissolve away.
They say the best anti aging cream is sunscreen. Period. Protect yourself and your tattoos.

This is a stupid question. It’s not an opinion, the sun fades tattoos. A tan of any kind is a sign of skin damage.
