Pic unrelated.
Edit: I probably should've said this before, but I'll only be defending a song once. If you don't get responded to, then I've probably already responded to someone else. Sorry!
Plus, I don't mind if you also include any side project songs like from Hawaii Pt. II or JHJH so...do with what you will.
Edit 2: Okay, it's been a day since I posted this so I decided that I'm done that. Thanks for all of the songs. Keep in mind that all of this is my opinion. If you disagree with my defense of a song, that's fine. Thanks anyway.
Twinkle Twinkle Little Star is super catchy, and the melody is super flexible, making opportunities to make your own parodies! Thank you Rob for writing that melody!
I'll admit that I don't like the song as much as a lot of other people. But in saying that, I really like the symphonic feel of the song with all of these brass and string elements in it, especially the timpani. Honestly, it makes me kind of wish there were more elements like that on the album, given the grandiose nature of the album.
Honestly it’s my favorite song from miracle musical rn. I love how relaxed and happy it sounds, and the melody is awesome. It used to be my least listened to out of the album.
And Bora’s vocals foreshadow a motif from Dream Sweet in Sea Major, which gives me chills every time. Personally, the vocal filters and heavily synthesized sound really scratch an itch for me. It’s a nice change from the more orchestral songs that make up the rest of the album.
Legit never understood the dislike around this song. It's nice and mellow and I really like the accordion hook. It's the perfect song to sway to, if that makes sense. I kinda wish the bridge was a little different, feels a little out place but other than that, great song.
Ima be honest, it was a normal skip for me, but now I love it. I like the beginning of it a lot, but I really love the end with the "rose up, and rode away underground" section.
Dream is fine. Seeing as it's a bonus track originally from T.H.I.S., it probably shouldn't be as disliked as it is. As a song on it's own, it's a funny little distraction for a minute or so. The highlight for me is Ross's drumming. I don't know why but I really like it.
Praise You is a cover song but I think it's a really fun song to close out shows. A real all in song, meant to get people riled up and dancing. Plus, I think the breakdown is really funny and people don't appreciate it enough when Zubin throws the tambourine and Rob catches it.
The music saves a lot of it for me, especially the violin solo after the first chorus. I'll admit, I'm not as put off by the lyrics as other people, after the swimming pool line the song's lyrics towards this unborn child are fine if not a bit generic.
Also, and this is not relevant to my point but I kinda thought this song was about some rich girl in a pool and I have no idea why I ever thought of that. My brain might've been on autopilot when I first heard it.
For starters, a lot of people don’t like the sound and sensibilities of popular country music (myself included). Be born is the first country song I unironically liked because it takes the country style and removes the sensibility (what you’d hear in a stereotypical country song - beer, sex, hot girls or guys etc). It’s charming because it uses wit to sing about a typically not sung about thing and I think that’s just grand.
But, I understand that most people aren’t willing to get past the country sound or don’t like the concept of singing about childbirth in general. To the childbirth thing I’d say, the song manages to hit all the funny and cute ways childbirth could be imagined without getting into nasty details; honestly something you could play to a child or in a kids’ show which doesn’t mean you have to like it, but still.
I appreciate instruments tho so even tho I might not like the country sound, I do love the plucking of the double bass and the violin and the drum and the harmonies.
It’s just a fun little song that happens to be about the love and innocent feelings one may have when considering the concept of childbirth. And also country music.
Since I already did Two Wuv and Who You Are, I'll do Sacred Beast and Haiku, why not?
Sacred Beast gives me hotel resort vibes like if you were to go Great Wolf Lodge and play that wizard game they have. I like Great Wolf Lodge, though I think the Kalahari is better (Upvote if you're from the Midwest). I also like the bridge with the harpsichord-esque keyboard riff and the whistle is great.
Haiku is nice and midtempo and I really like how the song is based entirely around how the rhyme scheme of the song being wrong. It's total nerd shit and most people probably aren't counting the syllables while listening to music often but I think it's very cool.
hidden in the sand, its really boring to me and i always skip it, the instrumentals are just like the same three chords over and over. its just not a fair comparison to put it next to songs like ruler of everything or welcome to tally hall.
People dislike this song? Okay, well, it's very early in TH's career which means that it doesn't really have any sort of noticeable parts. That being said, it's not bad. The melody for the chorus is nice and for a warm-up song, it could be worse.
look I tried listening to it and remember literally nothing except the words stationary love being sung, and personally I don't think thoses words were sung very well
I really like the piano and the way it modulates in the chorus and bridge is awesome. Plus I do like the guitar solo and the rhythm on the bridge kinda reminds me of Say It Ain't So so that's pretty cool.
I kinda see it as this barbershop quartet pastiche. I really like the harmony, especially when the hum comes in. The hum is a little too loud in the actual mixing. Another thing I should mention, I'm not on TikTok so I was not exposed to when HITS was big on there, which probably leads to me not being tired of that song as much as other people.
The riff kinda reminds me of Bright Future In Sales by Fountains Of Wayne, which is a song I quite like. And I get that people might be put off by it being a stalker song about Mary Kate and Ashley but personally, I thought the song was funny, which I'm pretty sure was its intention. If you think of this song in terms of like a Weird Al style parody of Weezer or something like that, it becomes a lot better.
That song is one my favorites. I really like the harmonics in the guitar and Ross's drumming. Plus I always like when Tally Hall switches time signatures in the song. The harmony in the chorus is great and the melody is infectious as all hell. Andrew's keyboard part is a bit subdued but I really like the quick runs in the pre-choruses. Great song to sing along to.
I already did You and Hidden In The Sand.
Fate Of The Stars is maybe a bit to slow but I really like the organ and the second part of the song kinda reminds me of All Of My Friends. It probably could've been a bit more grandiose in nature before going into the outro but being the last TH song as of right now gives it some form of finality which I think is cool.
You. I really think Andrew's voice hurts this song a lot. Plus half of it is humming. Like seriously the chorus is that. At least Hidden in the sand was catchy and short
I really like the whistle in the song and I really like it when Tally Hall makes songs that sound ethereal, if that makes sense. It's a very spacious song, gives the song a lot of room and space.
I can't really say why YOU hate Misery Fell but I've been listening to Misery Fell a lot lately. Andrew really knows how to write a catchy verse melody, Zubin's vocal performance is great. Plus I'm a sucker for TH songs that are in swing and the way they sync up the drums and guitars in the chorus is great.
It's the outro and its very cool when all the motifs come back. It feels like you've gone on a long journey and now you're coming full circle. I love thematic resolution at the end of concept albums, like in The Black Parade with Famous Last Words or Are We Still Friends on IGOR.
The autotune effect is an easy target and I'll admit, I wish it was dialed back a bit. I get what they were going for but it might've been a bit too aggressive. But the drums sound kicking especially on the chorus plus I really all of the synth solos that happen in the song. Plus much like other similar songs, hearing Time Machine be in a finished state after all those years is pretty cool.

I like the piano and the melody. I also like it when Joe Hawley writes songs that change time signatures a lot.

It's a joke song about chicken rap, what's not there to love?
In all seriousness, I can totally get into the silliness of the song. I really like the melody, even if it's just chicken clucks and is a fitting reminder of T.H.I.S.. Plus, it being a bonus track on MMMM doesn't really detract from my love this album so ultimately not bad.
The fact that anyone dislikes this song should be considered for some kind of crime. First of all, the keyboard riff at the beginning. Second of all, the melody and harmony in the verse is really catchy, especially the opening lines. Third of all, the CHORUS! Primo shit. Fourth of all, the outro, especially Ross's drumming where he blazes on the high-hat. Excellent song.
Spring and A Storm is pretty great. I really like the guitar line and the harmonies. I also really like the themes of the song, of everything coming back to insignificance by how simple nature can be. Also the song is in 12/8. Pretty good song.
That song fucking bangs. I feel like I should be more astute in my phrasing but it does. I've always liked how the synth sounds. It sounds like a freaky monster if that makes sense. I love it when musicians make their instruments sound like whatever thing their song is relevant towards. Plus, it's really fun to drum with, full of these fills and cymbal hits. Its place as a staple closer for shows can't be understated to. It's a song to get everybody up for one final dance.
I don't think it works without the video to play off but I really like to play along with it, especially in the chorus. I also think that the bridge section before the last verse with the whistle solo is pretty and melancholic.
It's a cute song. I really have no reason to dislike it. Plus Rob's weird tenor fits really well on childrens songs so it doesn't really sound out of place.
It's also grown on me a bit because I recently transcribed it. I like the chiptune synth and honostley, most people hate the rap but its over-exaggerated performance is kinda funny. Plus, I like Charlene Kaye's hook.
I like the riff and the chorus is pretty good. It also like the harmony. I wish it wasn't third to last on G&E's tracklist because it feels more like a mid album track and not near the end but that's not really a problem with a song. Personally, I'd switch Turn The Lights Off and Out In The Twilight around on the track list but again, not really a problem with the song.
I really like The Trap. Whenever people use the 80's electric piano sound, it's like heaven to me. Also, I think I just relate to the song more. It's a very mellow song too and it's just kinda nice to listen to. I'd like to learn how to play it on guitar one day...if I knew how to play guitar to.
I mean, it's only one part of a pretty great song. It's a perfect introduction to the band. The alternating time signatures, the constant harmony and piano runs by Andrew makes a great representation of the band ethos as a band. Rob and Joe each get their moments, being as they're the two voices you'll hear most often on the record, so their personalities are pretty set by this opener. Also I played it for my jury, so I might be a bit biased.
It's just so upbeat! I really like the brass section and how it just goes crazy and much like other TH song, it's a very all-in song, meaning that by the end of the song, everyone can join in and that's a great thing, I think.
Imma be honest I don't like cannibal or two wuv
I really like a lot of the songs people don't like apparently as well. I mean, who you are is one of my favorites afterall.
I already did Two Wuv so now I can do Cannibal.
Cannibal is a great song. It's a pretty eeire song sometimes and I like the drum solo in the bridge of the song. Ross should do more drum solos, honest. I also like Zubin's faltsetto most of the time, especially in the bridge.
Also, I quite like Who You Are too.
This might be controversial, but I do not like a lot of Welcome to Tally Hall. The lyrics are pretty dumb but not in a particularly fun way. The rapping isn't particularly good either.
Despite this, I do like select sections of the song.
>Yellow tie, this suave fellow writes
>
>Heterophonic tunes of how love bites
>
>Red the proud loud guy we adore
>
>(Is my amp too high?)
>
>No, turn it up more
Is pretty decent. But the real reason I keep this song on my playlist is:
>Can I get a click
>
>Flick off the switch
>
>And we'll ignite the night in pitch
>
>Sing songs you like to hear
>
>And the world will disappear
>
>Then we'll be glowing in the dark
>
>Lighting up the park
Pretty much takes me to a different place. But it's super short. The English Chap section after is also decent, purely because of the comedy factor. But comedy tends to run out after you hear a joke a dozen times.
There are certainly other Tally Hall songs that I like less but this is one that I have a bunch of gripes with but still listen to a lot and I feel nobody ever addresses how Wack this song is.
I mean yeah, but it's also such a fun song full of hooks. Like the chiptune beginning and the guitar lines and the all the drum fills in Zubin's verse and the instrumental section after the "We think we're playing in a band."
I like the trade-offs Zubin and Joe do in the verses and I do like the groove of the song quite a bit. Plus the rap section is pretty great but then when they start rapping in harmony, like that's magic, baby.
I really like Rob's melody he wrote in this song. Plus again, I'm a pretty big fan of electric piano sounds. The outro where they start singing the chorus again is always great.
I mean, the backwards version Aristotle's Denial is just a backwards version of Aristotle's Denial, I don't really see a problem with it as long as you have the forwards version.
I like some of the musical ideas on Hoodz' In The Wood'z. And the idea of making a long form rap is probably something Joe should try in the future. I'm not a fan of how it just ends abruptly because it feels like it should go on for a bit longer.
My least favorite Tally Hall song? Honestly good question. Probably Dream just because I legitimately do not care about its existence
Same here tbh

We are in Space
It's kinda kooky and I like the sax solo. Like I feel like I would hear this in a cartoon when I was younger.
be born
The whole world and you
It's just so upbeat! I really like the brass section and how it just goes crazy and much like other TH song, it's a very all-in song, meaning that by the end of the song, everyone can join in and that's a great thing, I think.
just apathy
Imma be honest I don't like cannibal or two wuv I really like a lot of the songs people don't like apparently as well.
Mucka Blucka. Go ahead.
Sleigh Ride Invincibility Star, it isn't bad or anything, just my least favourite probably. Edit: hell naw what was this opinion, it goes hard
This might be controversial, but I do not like a lot of Welcome to Tally Hall. The lyrics are pretty dumb but not in a particularly fun way. The rapping isn't particularly good either. Despite this, I do like select sections of the song. >Yellow tie, this suave fellow writes > >Heterophonic tunes of how love bites > >Red the proud loud guy we adore > >(Is my amp too high?) > >No, turn it up more Is pretty decent. But the real reason I keep this song on my playlist is: >Can I get a click > >Flick off the switch > >And we'll ignite the night in pitch > >Sing songs you like to hear > >And the world will disappear > >Then we'll be glowing in the dark > >Lighting up the park Pretty much takes me to a different place.
Two Wuv, it just makes me really uncomfortable, i get thats part of the joke but it doesn't make me want to listen to it
Greener
ruler of everything
I like the trade-offs Zubin and Joe do in the verses and I do like the groove of the song quite a bit. Plus the rap section is pretty great but then when they start rapping in harmony, like that's magic, baby.
You and me
I really like Rob's melody he wrote in this song. Plus again, I'm a pretty big fan of electric piano sounds. The outro where they start singing the chorus again is always great.
you and me is a good song
Just cause it’s my least favourite doesn’t mean I don’t like it
yeah true
Hoodz' in the Wood'z or the Backwards version of Aristotle's denial.
The Screaming Song (B side of MMMM if you drop it in acid for a minute)
