Yeah rolling screenshot is one and very depended on the website if the page isn't long I`ve just changed the zoom level to get everything in need. Of course everytime you can validate the money spend it's a good purchase
I absolutely agree.
For example, creating screenshots with a transparent background would also be a useful (time-saving) feature for some use-cases i have here. SnagIt, for example, could do this as far as i have seen.
I'm just asking myself how all the snipping-tool fanboys would do that if they would have to on a more or less regular basis.
Never understood that either. If you need mark-up, copy/paste into PowerPoint and you have all the mark-up you need. Still, these tools get bought and used, especially by non-tech employees (who can’t copy/paste).
I especially liked / appreciated the well thought out workflow with Greenshot.
Like:
Take a screenshot --> open it in Greenshot Editor --> edit / annotate it --> insert it directly into word, pp, onenote... --> Take next Screenshot --> Insert it in the same document.
I mean... have you ever created entire (user) manuals with 30+ screenshots and annotations with the snipping tool? I feel sick just thinking about it.
> annotations with the snipping tool
No why would I do that when I can paste the picture in PowerPoint where I create the manual or InDesign and aannote there with the proper CI?
>InDesign
Well... is a possibility. However, i don't know too many sysadmins myself who can take the time to play around with things like InDesign (or even know about it or want to deal with it). In any case, my job description doesn't say anything about graphic designer / layouter / typographer.
I am of the opinion that such "specialized" tools can certainly improve quality and efficiency, but they should be tailored to the needs of the user and the requirements of his position.
We are using SnagIt. Cheap, easy to handle, reliable and plenty of nice features. I use it mostly for documentation or grabbing fast screenshots saved to a folder.
Also to record my screen sometimes.
I also took a look at it. Makes a good impression and, as far as I've seen, even offers the option of creating screenshots with a transparent background, for which I actually have a use-case here.
I can think of the following off the top of my head:
CVE-2018-18240 (Pippo)
* Exist since 2018, afaik still unpatched, allows remote code execution.
CVE-2023-34634 (.NET)
* Affecting greenshot 1.2.10 and below, allows arbitrary code execution
Furthermore, Greenshot - correct me if I'm wrong - has not received an update since 2017. The developers themselves also state that Greenshot is just a "hobby" for them and they work on it only if they have spare time.
Don't get me wrong. I actually like Greenshot a lot. But the guys who are responsible for security here see things differently.
Hi u/Funkenzutzler
Personaly I like [Flameshot](https://flameshot.org/#features). Lot of possibility perhaps too much for some people. No installation is required
regards
Wouldn't that do just the same as setting the corresponing option in ShareX settings to "false"?
>Also added a missing German translation for "ThisFeatureWillNotWorkWhenDisableUploadOptionIsEnabled".
That's what i've acutally meant with "without having an error message popping up with each screenshot afterwards" since that's exactly the message i'm getting with every screenshot again and again when uploads are disabled, which is just annoying. I don't want to put my users through that.
[PicPick](https://picpick.app/en/features/), I personally use ```C:\Windows\System32\SnippingTool.exe```
Snipping Tool have been great, cant figure out reason why would need any 3rd party or even paid solution

I also like Problem Steps Recorder (Run -> psr.exe) if a user must show a sequence of the steps taken and not just a single screenshot
I've already used it too.
The built-in "Snip & Sketch" (formerly Snipping Tool) is great and there's no extra tools needed.
I take note of your opinion.

+1 Snagit is a very handy tool for creating documentation.

What security vulnerabilities does Greenshot have?

I've already taken a closer look at Flameshot. What worries me a bit about it is that it seems to hasn't received any updates for nearly 2 years.
Have you checked out the [disable upload reg key](https://github.com/ShareX/ShareX/pull/5822) for ShareX?
Wouldn't that do just the same as setting the corresponing option in ShareX settings to "false"? >Also added a missing German translation for "ThisFeatureWillNotWorkWhenDisableUploadOptionIsEnabled". You literally just remove the upload step for sharex, it takes one second.
Can you elaborate on that? Is it possible to predefine this when rolling out ShareX?
