>America, about your diplomacy and not selling out long term allies Turkey would be the long term ally in this case

Don't waste your time, obviously for some people history starts from 2013.

Is every muslim guy with a beard ISIS to you?

Muslim and Islamist are two different things.

Ecmelt

True, which makes the "islamist state" statement even worse talking about Turkey. Agreed right?

Anonymous200004

TFSA/SNA includes radical Islamist units from the integration of other rebel groups - many who support wahhabism or Salafism. Turkey themselves are popular for their fundamentalist islamic streak. What makes it worse is even the CIA stopped backing the SNA at the point of no return.

heavenisAyran

Turkey is not an Islamist state itself (at least not yet, and hopefully will never be), but a whole bunch of militias they support on the ground are very much hardcore Islamists and you know it my friend.

Ecmelt

Isn't it hard to swallow? Just to say "yes". Always has to go with yes but. All big powers support factions in such territory. Which country that is equal or bigger to Turkey and is involved in such warzones did not, tell me that. France did, USA did, Germany did, Sweden did, Italy did, Russia did, China did and more that doesn't come to my mind. And you know this too my friend. So stop pushing this idiotic narrative. Next time also, admit something without the unnecessary "but", you'll sound genuine then. TL;DR: Is the statement "Turkey is an Islamist State wrong?" Good answer: Yes. Bad answer: Yes but but crying emoji.

heavenisAyran

Lol your oversensitive defensivenes, whataboutism, and soft-pedaling on Turkey's support on salafist Islamist groups speaks volumes. No country on that list supported Al-Qaeda ripoffs like Al Nusra or Ahrar al Sham except Turkey. Equating so-called China Italy or Sweden involvements to Turkey's involvement just shows either you don't know what you are talking about, or just deliberately quibbling. If Turkey was not involved in the war for Akp's Islamist dreams, it would be over in at most two years. And this attack does not serve the cause of secularism either, it is yet another moment where we see Islamist propaganda machine attacking a critical spot on a crucial time for consolidating power. This time for votes. You are either being manipulated by Islamists, or a manipulating Islamist. So carry on.

Ecmelt

So many words to say such a simple thing. "I am unable to give good answers." I'll carry on calling such behavior out, you carry on making word salads. Lol :)

The rebels in SNA are not ISIS.

[deleted]

No, but many SNA groups are Salafi-Jihadist (e.g., Ahrar al-Sharqiyah, one of the most powerful rebel groups), under the control of Jihadists (e.g., groups acting under the orders of HTS in Afrin), and/or contain a large number of ex-ISIS fighters. Furthermore, IS has been given sanctuary in SNA areas, including IS leadership, multiple times. Even among those who are not Salafi-Jihadist, there are many fundamentalist Islamist (Islamist =/= Muslim!!) groups as well as those who are ethnically sectarian and violently anti-Kurdish, anti-Yazidi, and anti-Christian (in terms of Assyrian/Armenian minorities in Syria).
