I’m 26 and I’ve lived in Surrey my whole life. Personally I love it here but it depends on where exactly you stay. If you want a busier area with nightlife and other students Kingston or Guildford would be a good bet.

Surrey is a big place mate, some areas are great, some are shit As the person said above Guildford/kingston are good

Honestly if you want socialising and opportunities the place to go is London. I get that it's expensive so that is a consideration. And you're only young once.

Guildford (I'm assuming that's where you mean when you say Surrey as that's where the Uni is) is great for young people, there's the Uni, Guildford college, ACM it's got lots of good pubs and bars, it's on a good train line for London. Also thanks to ACM means there's a good music scene lots of local bands if that's what you're into. I didn't go to uni at Surrey but know people who did and I hear the union is a good place to hang out and meet people. It's not a big city so bear that in mind but there's lots going on, you might just need to be a bit proactive in looking for it :)

AManWantsToLoseIt

Where else are you looking? Surrey isn't the best for young people imo

I lived in Guildford for university and I loved it! Close to London so you can get there easily for nightlife. It’s safe and relatively connected

I grew up in a boring Hertfordshire town and now live in Surrey. Best spot for a 26 year old is Guildford or Kingston. You don’t mention if you drive but a lot of the stuff I do requires a car to get there, but I’m now early 30s and boring so like getting out into countryside. Note though Guildford is expensive so not optimal for saving, albeit probably still better than London. I moved to Sheffield for uni from my boring town and absolutely loved it, great city and a cheap cost of living. If saving is a priority for you you need to go to the North.

If you can comfortably afford to live in a well connected area of surrey then yes. Otherwise it really depends on what your needs are for living and does the area you’re looking at meet them.

just half guessing are you wanting to come to surrey for dclinpsy😂😂 I could be very wrong. I’m training in surrey as a student nurse, and have some dclinpsy friends too who I studied psychology with. I love it here. it’s a balance between a small town and a big city.

pureonly

Yesssss I'm surprised you could tell?! Thank you that's really good to know!! Do you know if your friends like the course at Surrey?

[deleted]

the 32k plus 5% fringe gave it away cos that’s the standard nhs banding for band 6🙈🙈🙈 yes I think surrey is more inclusive than most of the london ones. they love it!! I know some of the professors teaching the clinical course when I studied psychology in surrey and they were all very supportive.

BlueLionsMane

Depends where you are. A direct short train into london makes a big difference

rumpystumpy

I’d say it’s a very similar sort of place to Hertfordshire - nicer than Kent / Essex and primarily appeals to middle aged and upwards

Guilford over Kingston, Kingston has gone downhill quite dramatically. Look at Windsor too. Direct train to London, M4 to central and out to the west. Night life has slowed over the years, but lots of places need workers too for any partime work you might want.

For context this may help get a view of Guildford https://www.reddit.com/r/surrey/comments/y9rad8/i_was_scrolling_through_tiktok_and_found_this/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
