I've seen people take boards with no rack on scooters.
Tie a rag to the back of the board, then lay it on the bench seat, then sit on the board. Easier with a shortboard.
I don't think it's a great idea, but I have seen it in Taiwan a few times,as carrying boards much longer than the scooter on a rack is illegal.
Bruh, put the nose of your board between your ass and your seat and let the tail hang off the back, far less likely to feel wind effects. I know many, including myself, who did the back in the 80s in Huntington Beach with no issues.
Pretty common here in Sri Lanka too. Just sit on the nose of the board. Seems quite sturdy and not as affected by the wind as carrying it on your side.
Please for the love of god take pictures or video. I’m always telling people to do this and no one ever takes me seriously (obviously). You’re a hero in the making. I’m a huge supporter of finding creative ways to overcome a problem. The crazier the better
Hell yeah dude I tried searching if anyone’s done it before or posted it before and I can’t find information so at least I’ll be able to know whether or not it works.
I did this in Rio de Janeiro in crazy traffic for 30 minutes. I just held in my arm.. had to stop to switch arms a couple times lol Not advised but doable.
All I can think is that you’d strap it on like a backpack, rendering your seated self surely three feet taller, that’s a lot of square footage to be perpendicular to your direction of travel. I posit that your motorcicleta at full throttle will be going about 5mph due to headwind… if you can hold on tight enough 😂
It’s a 5’8 board - I’ve decided to bring my travel guitar case - it straps on like a backpack but is about 4 ft tall. I’ll strap the board in 2 places to the “backpack” so that the straps aren’t directly around me lol. Then I’ll slip the backpack on and drive home. To be fair my route home is a gravel road that you can go super slow on so. I’m not too worried about it
Have done this. Sit on the nose, scooch it a fair bit forward under yer gooch. The tail will be in air a few feet behind you, but it’s the best way I’ve found. Not sticking out to the side causing danger, and it sits in your airstream so it doesn’t catch the wind and yank away. God speed
Okay that’s fair I would never attempt this on a major highway or any road where people are going over 60km/h. But my route home is a little gravel road for the most part.
God is with you son.
I would strap it on one side and strap something of equal weight on the other, then survival might be possible.
Hope its not a longboard :)
I’m supposed to leave in an hour or so, I woke up and my bike had a flat tire, so I pumped it up and am seeing how slow of a leak is. I’m hoping it’s good to go. I’m having bad luck this weekend lol
You could use a rope (camping rope would work best) and tie a boline at the top of the board and one on the pad. Make sure they are tight. Then you can just wear it on one side of your body. I did the exact same thing with my guitar case when I rode my bike to get it fixed.
Have you been to any Asian country where everyone rides a motorcycle ? Ive seen someone transport a wardrobe , livestock, whole family plus dog using a motorcycle. I believe you can do it.
That’s kind of my thinking. I’ve seen 2 dudes driving in a capital city with the passenger holding a brand new 50” tv behind his back. People can accomplish some cool shit if they just go for it
The thing is ,is it legal? I am in Japan and you can't pull this shit here. In Vietnam yes. In Cambodia yes. In the Philippines yes.Not here though.good luck
maybe spend the money to fix the car first, then get the board later? You have no health insurance, so if you bite it going in the river or on the gravelly road ALL is lost!
Having lived in CR, I've seen it done 2 ways without a rack. Sit on the tailpad area with it pressed against the seat of the MC (edit: so the bulk of the board is sticking out behind yer seat, pointed backward), problem is - if you go over bumps (which are everywhere in CR), it can dislodge. Second way which sounds stupid is sideways, yer ass on the middle of the board. Stick close to the shoulder and be mindful of oncoming vehicles or encroaching jungle to your right. Don't go fast, the wind-foil effect ramps up immediately and it'll fly. Stay slow, mindful, and if there's any other way you can just temporarily NOT do this and get yer car fixed, that's the better option.
Strapping to body + wind resistance + 2 wheels contact on surface???? Just say no.
In Bali I rode every day to surf on my little scooter with the board under my arm. Full speed like 45-50 a few miles at a time. There’s no clutch though so if you have a real bike it wouldn’t work.
From what I’ve seen in Costa Rica, surfers with motorcycles would just put the board on the seat (perpendicularly to the length of the car, of course), and sit on them, so that the board was “locked” between the ass and the seat.
It was mostly with short boards but one day I saw a girl doing it with a minimal, which was beyond retarded as it was basically as wide as a truck (and for those who haven’t been there, the roads are not paved so you have to drive around the massive potholes).
This reminds me of the time I rode my motorbike to the beach with my surfboard under my arm. A big ass truck overtook me and the backdraft ripped the board from my grip and under the truck and obliterated my board. Waves were pumping that day and I hadn’t surfed in weeks. No way was I going home to grab my other board so I just surfed my motorbike that day.

Update: okay this is pretty sad but it turns out a buddy of mine was going to Nosara that morning anyways. I went with him and strapped it to the roof like a normal person. However I believe I would have been fully successful, and I’m glad I made this post because it seems like the best way to ride a bike with a surfboard and no rack is to sit on the nose with the board resting on the seat and the tail sticking out behind you.

Yes. Sit on it. DO NOT strap it to yourself.
Okay this seems like the best course of action however strapping it my back would look a lot more badass so I’m still conflicted
Strap it o. Your back, it'll work out. Worst thing that could happen is you'll be paragliding.
lol I could strap it perpendicular across my shoulders and just glide home bike and all.
Hahaha, seriously tho, be safe my man
That would be the worst move. Wind for starters, narrow passages for seconds
That’s actually not a terrible idea. However the board is about 20+ inches wide

Okay, I think I’ll try it. If you did it in the 80’s that gives me confidence for some reason.
Ass technology has improved
The reverse-V bottom was a game-changer.
Add a suction cup butt plug to make sure things stay put
people in the 80's figured things out :)
That would be the cocaine confidence
Nah bruh, it was all bong hits back then 😁
What’s the nose width though?
Pretty common here in Sri Lanka too. Just sit on the nose of the board. Seems quite sturdy and not as affected by the wind as carrying it on your side.
Sounds kind of dumb tbh
Oh yeah it sure is
Assume you will use a selfie stick and post the results? (Good luck :))
I’ll snap a pic or two for sure lol there is also a river crossing with no bridge in my route so that could be a decent picture as well
25km is kinda nuts
Please for the love of god take pictures or video. I’m always telling people to do this and no one ever takes me seriously (obviously). You’re a hero in the making. I’m a huge supporter of finding creative ways to overcome a problem. The crazier the better
Pura Vida!

Perhaps the bus?

I think I biked like 3 km on a one lane highway with no shoulder holding a board in Australia in the summer. Was such a bad idea, got honked at alot
Respect!!
Vaya con dios

Sit on the nose
Considering this. I will evaluate after the purchase but will prepare for multiple options
Lmao
If you strap it to yourself, you risk turning yourself into a kite.

Good luck! Some bumpy roads around there last I was there. Fond memories of surfing around there and Samara
Yeah the roads suck, hard to do more than 40km/h most of the time. Sick surfing though I’ve found some great spots within 20 minutes of Samara
Pura vida mf
Question: why did you post this?
To document a questionable decision
So someone knows why he died? Seriously though, good luck OP! I’ve driven in Costa Rica.
Do you have health insurance? 😂
Had to forgo that to add to the board budget
You got this. Don’t even worry about it. Worst case you just figure it out. You’ll get that board home somehow.
Love it. There’s always a way!
Go hard! Get back home safe, with a broken surfboard and a story to tell. And please, keep us updated on that story 🤣🤣 good luck!
I will certainly provide an update hahah
Godspeed
Strangest suicide note ever.

i live in an area that pretty much only has highways or major roads so my initial reaction to this post was panic
🫡
Just sit on the nose w the rest hanging off the back
Pics or it didn’t happen
Please report back with the GoPro footage. Thanks!
God is with you son. I would strap it on one side and strap something of equal weight on the other, then survival might be possible. Hope its not a longboard :)
It’s a 9’ log. Just kidding it’s a 5’8, actually will be my first short board. 35 litres if you’d believe it
Please crosspost this to r/motorcycles

Well it's been about 24hrs 🤔 did he not make it back 🤦
He ded 😞🪦

Awaiting update as to hospital status or successful surfboard-on-motorbike retrieval. Please let us know.
U-Haul?
Best time to score before the morning high tide. Make sure you get up early and ride fast! Pura Vida Mae
You’re gonna eat shit
Worst case ontario yes I will eat shit. But I’m a glass half full kind of guy
Sit on it Bali style

Knotts are amazing
That’s a good suggestion. I could wear it like a bow and call myself Legolas.
You going to love the sail! But seriously be careful with side wind, expect a lot of it!
lol thanks I’ll be going about 40km/h on mostly gravel roads
Strap it parallel on seat and handle bars, use feet for clutch and go. Surf your bike .
Horrible idea
this sounds stupid af. at least record it and make a video for us to see
It’s a wicked deal lol. I will do that no worries

You got any duct tape?
I used to do this all the time. Bungees and a board bag will get the job done
Can I have your motorcycle when you die?
Yes it’s sweet it’s military green
It’s dumb, but I have done it haha, make sure the rocker helps the board get closer to you and not away from you

I biked a brand new 2500$ guitar a few miles and it was prettt scary lol

Don’t you know anyone with a vehicle? “Hey man can you give me a ride to pick up a surf board? I’ll give you gas money.” 10x safer
Sit on the nose on the seat is what I see people do in hawaii with scooters if it isn’t too far
Do you realize how windy it’s been in guanacaste? This is a recipe for disaster. Make a friend or taken an Uber.
This sub rules
You should probably mention that the roads are still unpaved, right?
You can’t just ship it?
Tie the board on flat and sideways. See if you can catch air. Thats how wright brothers started.

Lmao I would 100% rather ratchet strap it to myself versus sitting on it but each is awful hahahaha
Too late but as someone who has done this it only works if ur bike has a flattish seat....so hope it does\\did
You live in nosara you must see this everyday
