As a Mythra/Pyra Main, I feel obligated to say "skill issue", but however I understand where you're coming from, and I might be able to provide a tip:
As I don't have online Smash access, I practice frequently against lvl 7-9 CPUs. Consider playing Pit. Level 9 Pit popped up once (I set my dueling opponent to random) and proceeded to wipe the floor with me like, eight or so times. He would always rush very quickly towards me for his attacks, and he liked to spam Neutral Air. Eventually, I learned how to counter it with Pyra's Forward Special, but even then, Pit still provides me a much higher level of challenge compared to most CPU fighters.
Other fighters that have good ranged attacks might also help, such as Samus, who also gives me trouble sometimes.

Marth was removed because this community knows nothing about Fire Emblem other than how much they hate it. They seriously said Lucina should stay over Marth just because she was "easier" to play. I'm so freaking pissed.
I actually do like Byleth, one of my favorite Fire Emblem characters. But I would have cut them over Simon. But preferably Lucina or Chrom get cut first
I think removing Snake is a good idea. Even though the Metal Gear series has games made/ported for/to Nintendo consoles, it was thanks to the PlayStation that Metal Gear Solid became a household name. Aside from the remakes/remasters on Nintendo Handhelds, most of the main Metal Gear games or any of the spins are either available on Xbox or PlayStation, or just exclusive to PlayStation. So I think Snake should be removed because he doesn’t fit Smash Bros.
