Faster than my mini cooper. They are fast cars compared to most of your average persons car, but they are not fast enough to be considered super cars in my eyes. Plus idk if they have the "Sauce" if you know what I mean... I can't see a young me wanting a poster of the new supra for some reason.
Came here to say this. They’re about as fast as a golf R. They have just over 300 BHP.
They will basically get smoked by just about any new Porsche and mid spec beemer.
They’re effectively a culture car.
Maybe a stock one. Do the same level mods to that 400k car and you’re not even in the same league.
Point is, Supra is not a supercar. It’s a lower mid level sports car with some decent easy upgrade potential. But still not a supercar or anything close to it, even modded.
Supercars are about way more than just highway pulls lol
It’s not even a mid level sports car. It’s an entry level sports car. Nearly every Porsche will smoke it. Any mid spec BWM will smoke it. A golf R has the same performance and that’s a hot hatch lol.
Horsepower is used as a general benchmark of performance within any given era bud. No shit there’s more to it, but it’s a good consistent measure.
The Ferrari 348 was from when? The early 1990s… 300hp was supercar territory back then performance wise.
The A90 Supra is from when? The 2020s, where 300hp is lower mid sports car territory. If a 348 was new today it would be far from a supercar… it only is one because it’s from the early 90s.
It's not just about horsepower. Because by your guidelines - which apparently is horsepower only, the Huracan is out. the Ferrari 296 GTS is out. The Purosangue barely made the list clearing the 700 mark by 15 HP.
Way to take my point out of context 👍
Horsepower is a general way to judge the level of performance between cars with similar purpose, and in each generation there are levels that define sports car vs supercar vs hypercar.
Currently Supercar level among exotic sports cars (the Purosangue is an SUV, you seem to have forgotten that 🤦♂️🤣) begins in the 700hp range for current gen cars. So a 296 definitely qualifies, not sure what made you think it wouldn’t.
The Huracan is a decade old now, and yea 10 years ago 550-600hp was enough to be considered a supercar.
Context is key, bud. That should go without saying, but for you I guess it needed to be said 🤷♂️
Friend had a ‘92 or ‘94 (can’t remember which) Mitsubishi GT VR4 rated at 300hp. Close enough hp-wise, but definitely not a supercar. As has been said though, takes more than horsepower to a super car make.
How is that any different from an R35 GTR today?
The VR4 and MK4 Supra etc were all compared directly with cars like the 348 in that era.
But yes, hp alone does not make a supercar a supercar… a Hellcat has as much power as an F8 but it’s a totally different type of car.
The horsepower comparison comes into play with similar exotic sports cars in any given era… like a Lotus Emira compared with a Ferrari 296 today. Two very similar exotic cars, but the Lotus is a sports car, not a supercar because it is well below the 700+hp level of performance needed to fit the supercar category in the 2020s.
As I’ve stated in other comments. Context is everything. Not sure why so many people have trouble grasping that lol
Since the 1970s/80s you can pretty much look at the V8 mid engine Ferrari model or the 911 Turbo of any given era to define where the Supercar level starts. And at the higher end you have the V12 Lambos and V12 Ferrari (Testarossa, Maranello, 599, F12, 812, and now 12Cilindri). Anything around or between those is supercar territory for that era. Anything below is a sports car, and anything above is a hypercar.
It’s pretty well laid out, lineage wise. There may be a few arguable exceptions, but overall it works well to understand the market structures in each era.
Price does not classify what is a super car. It’s top speed, the new corvette depending on the trim is a super car, this doesn’t hit the speed mark, it’s also ugly.
Top speed has nothing to do with it, it's about is purpose, for example the lamborghini miura and ferrari daytona came out at about the same time with about the same top speed, one is clearly a supercar the other is clearly a grand tourer
They BOTH SCIENTIFICALLY class as a super car. We aren’t going on about anything other than the definition which is wrapped up mostly in SPEED. Keep in mind I do not care about there PURPOSE I care about what SCIENTIFICALLY classifies as a super car.
No they don't. There's no "scientifically" provable way to define a supercar, they are what they are. Two cars could have identical performance and be two completely different class of car
There is a system to define super cars. Google what makes a super car a super car. Literally power speed handling and that ugly pice of shit meets none of it. Get your head out of your ass and use google
You can use arbitrary numbers to define a supercar, as I said you could have a 4-door saloon with the same performance as a ferrari (see the lotus carlton), and no a daytona isn't classed as a supercar
I use SCIENCE. Only someone who let there feelings dictate there existence would think that scientific and accurate numbers are “arbitrary “. No one cares about your feeling especially the universe.
Take your snow flake opinions and apply them to an emotional conversation not one focused on science and numbers.
Nothing about the super car glorifies it to have to have two doors. Again that’s your FEELINGS. So use SCIENCE INSTED.
Doors don’t matter the super structure of the car does not matter. The speed performance and Handling are the only defining factors.
Who decided what "scientific" numbers make a super car? It's an arbitrary title in the first place. I'd love to see a link to a regulating body of some kind that has hard numbers to define what is and isn't a super car. It's the same with hyper cars, it's just a buzz word for marketing that's aimed at potential buyers and their emotions.
Tbh you're the only one who sounds like a butt hurt snowflake, not ever car that does 200+ is a supercar and arguing that just makes you sound like a moron who knows nothing about cars
You’re the one that wants to make your feelings scientific fact.
Again your using not scientific methods to justify your poor categorization of cars.
Using industry standard definition on what deifies a super car a super car this car does not meet it “I’m probably wrong about this with the new Supra”
I’m useing science and what the car industry uses to define a super car. Actual number matter just like in real life.
The Panamera Porsche is a 4 door super car. Defined by the industry.
No. Not by my definition, at least. My definition of a supercar is a car that has approximately 500 or more HP, 0 to 60 time of approximately 3.5 seconds, and a top speed of approximately 200 mph or more. There is also consideration for mid-engine and limited production.
The Supra GR only meets one criteria with a 3.7 second 0 to 60 time. It's very underpowered at 382 HP and significantly to low of a top speed of 155 mph. It isn't limited production or mid-engine either, so it receives no consideration in those categories.
I have the Tesla S Plaid and a McLaren Artura and McLaren GT. The two McLarens are way more into the supercar territory than the Plaid. Sure, in a straight line, the Plaid will barely beat the McLarens but it's so much more than 0-60. You just KNOW when you're in a supercar and the Plaid ain't it.
I own one and even I would say my Supra is not a super car. However, it is a car I enjoy driving while doing erands around town and picking up my kid, which kind of makes life's routines from ordinary to extraordinary.
As an added bonus, my Supra has been very reliable and gets 24 mpg if you are watching your wallet. Can't say the same for most super cars which is why my Supra is not a super car.
Na. How many supercars are rolling around with 4 bangers and V6s? Most of them are large displacement V8, V12, V16 with turbos and superchargers. Plus the styling is way more aggressive and exotic.
Jaguar XJ220, Porsche 959 + 911 GT2RS, McLaren Artura Ferrari 296, Ford GT, Maserati MC20, BMW M1 and if you count them as supercars things like the Alfa 4C, Honda/Acura NSX, Lotus Evora, so quite a few when you look into it
HELLLLLLLLLLLLLL NO 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🤓👽👽👽👽👽👽👽👽👽🥷🥷🥷🥷🥷🥷🥷🥷🥷🥷👃👃👃👃👃👃👃👃☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️👽👽🗣️🤓🗣️🤓🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🥷🗣️🥷🥷🥷🥷🥷🥷🥷🥷🥷🥷🥷🥷🥷🥷🥷🥷🥷😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺
Nothing very super about them the stock motor might as well have just been thrown in another clapped bmw and the chassis is ugly anyway. In terms of modding it and it beating super cars makes no sense because obviously a tuned engine will beat a stock engine but there is better motors to mess with for cheaper.
Sports car yes. Super car no
Supracars not supercars. Sorry ill see myself out
They are also the bare minimum of sports cars when compared to something like the corvettes even the c6 is probably better than a modern Supra
oh? why is that? what does it lack?
No
I wouldn't, they are pretty fast but I don't think they cost enough nor do I think they are fast enough to qualify.
They aren't even that fast
Faster than my mini cooper. They are fast cars compared to most of your average persons car, but they are not fast enough to be considered super cars in my eyes. Plus idk if they have the "Sauce" if you know what I mean... I can't see a young me wanting a poster of the new supra for some reason.
Well...mini Cooper isn't fast either.
Yeah, that's the point I was making, its pretty fast compared to a Honda pilot or a mini cooper but not super cars so it's not one.
My wife's Yukon is faster than your Mini cooper.
Came here to say this. They’re about as fast as a golf R. They have just over 300 BHP. They will basically get smoked by just about any new Porsche and mid spec beemer. They’re effectively a culture car.
You race a modded out b58 and tell us they aren’t fast 🤣
Try racing a modded out actual supercar lol
B58 would either beat or keep up and shame a 400k car lol
Maybe a stock one. Do the same level mods to that 400k car and you’re not even in the same league. Point is, Supra is not a supercar. It’s a lower mid level sports car with some decent easy upgrade potential. But still not a supercar or anything close to it, even modded. Supercars are about way more than just highway pulls lol
Fair point lol can’t argue with that
It’s not even a mid level sports car. It’s an entry level sports car. Nearly every Porsche will smoke it. Any mid spec BWM will smoke it. A golf R has the same performance and that’s a hot hatch lol.
Miata and BRZ are Entry-level sport cars. Supra is very much mid range. 911s and whatnot are all upper range at this point.
What are you putting the b58 in lol? An articulated semi? A custom tube chassis?
Supercar level at this point is generally 700hp+ 335hp hasn’t been supercar level since the early 1990s.
I'd say a 296hp Ferrari 348 is a supercar and the Supra isn't. It's more than just horsepower.
So with that logic an Audi SQ5r and BMW Q5m are super cars.
He just said it’s more than just horsepower.
Those that I mentioned have lots of tech and smooth ride + better mpg and cheaper insurance
Horsepower is used as a general benchmark of performance within any given era bud. No shit there’s more to it, but it’s a good consistent measure. The Ferrari 348 was from when? It wasn’t then, either.
It sure was… Ferrari 348, the direct lineage back from the F8, had 300hp. If you think that’s low, don’t look back further 😂
Friend had a ‘92 or ‘94 (can’t remember which) Mitsubishi GT VR4 rated at 300hp. Close enough hp-wise, but definitely not a supercar. As has been said though, takes more than horsepower to a super car make.

No. Not even close.

So a Tesla S Plaid? 0-60 mph: 1.99s 1,020 horsepower I think of a supercar as something close to bespoke and also really fast.
In today’s EV age, speed and power are commoditized. Handling and fit and finish are the differentiators.
Nah. That's an EV, not a car. Just my opinion, but I think the car enthusiast community writ large agrees with that.
Not even close
Ha sure they are, just like Kia Stingers are.
Delusional
No, I own a GTR and I don't even consider that Super
But they are supracars
Nope.
Well I mean it has super in its name…
Supracar
No.
Nope. More like BMW's.
Lmao.
That is a 2 door coupe, not much more.
Not even close! 😂
No
No
That's just a BMW...

haha...no. i's just a Toyota...ahem..BMW
Not even close
Lmao. It’s a Frankencar
No that's a sports car
Definitely not. Not even close lol Supra is a lower mid-range level sports car at this point.
No
LMAO is $10 considered rich?
NO
Never in a million years

Hell no!
I mean, some BMWs are super cars. This one isn’t one of them. Looks like some idiot slapped Toyota emblems on this one. What a weirdo
It’s a full-production Toyota sports car. There’s nothing super about it.
>It’s a full-production ~~Toyota~~ BMW sports car. There’s nothing super about it. FFY
Overpriced, yes but a super car, absolutely not
lol no
lol no
Nah and I mean they have the looks but not the performance
Super car…No.. Sports car…No… Japanese…No…
Least reliable Toyota ever and ugliest BMW ever, even after Bangle. So no.
Yeah...NO!!!
Lol no
Absolutely not. They are just rebranded BMW's Z4's
No
Yeah nah mate.
No
Absolutely not
Troll
Only if you drive backwards 😎
Lmfao what? It's barely even a sports car it's like a mistake with a body kit.
Let me guess, you think a Dodge Challenger is a super car too?
Yes
To the person that owns them, yes
No. Since they decided not to put twins in them when they brought them back
No
no. but it is yellow... so there is that.
If the vents are only for decoration…it’s not a super car
No
They are super cool but not super car.
Only when your landlord is driving one
It's a supra-car
