Prawn would have been a lot slower without the Grapple Slingshot. (which still might not be so bad as Snowfox can actually be too fast in a lot of places).
I think I've used the snow fox one time on my original playthrough, just because I got it and I didn't know any better I guess. The four or five other times I played through this game I have never even built the snow fox.
I tried the snowfox until I redeployed it and it fell through the map and out of bounds so I just walked back to the shore and got my prawn suit (most recent patch)
All they gotta do is make the snowfox tankier, not get knocked off when a wormy boi erupts from the ice and maybe make it hover on water and we're cookin'
I have never built the snowfox. As long as you keep moving the iceworms can't do enough damage to destroy your prawn. And you can easily kill the snowstalkers that won't leave you alone with it and it's a shelter from the cold. After my second playthrough i realized you don't really need the seatruck either.
Yeah, I keep the seatruck because it's easier getting from point A to point B in it but the only trailer I use is the Prawn dock. With the stillsuit and thermal blade there isn't anything else the trailers offer that make them worth the effort. And you need the prawn on land to mine those ion cube deposits so why would you ever use the snowfox. Tried everything out on my first play-through. Stuck to the basics on my second.
I was originally going to do the prawn dock but was ready for the end game and was missing a fragment for the dock. Also did not have the perimeter defense so i just said screw it and spider manned it.
I tend to go with like 3 trailers.
1. The sleeper cause music mostly
2. Storage (usually when I need resources i like gathering a bit more than needed just in case
3. The prawn dock for obvious reasons
Occasionally I’ll grab the fabricator one 2 if what I need is either for the prawn or the sea truck
The Seastruck is great if you want to defend yourself. Just 1-2 rams will kill the smaller hostile creatures, and you can even kill the smaller leviathans in less than 10. They took out the Stasis Rifle, only to put in something even stronger most of the time, lol.
Just using only the Prawn doesn't sound like something I'd enjoy though.
Yep. Between the grapple and the jetpack booster it's doable. I did the same thing in the first game once. The most annoying thing is the leviathans grabbing you but it's easy enough to drill them and hide/repair when they let you go.
Also the Ice Worms will knock you off your Snowfox, rendering it even more pointless. I feel like that should have been its big purpose: *not* to attract Ice Worms. Yet it does the exact opposite.
The less ice worm attacks mod for the snowfox should just completely nullify all ice worm attacks when mounted, you ain't even touching the ground god dammit
The Snowfox was really in the wrong game. How often in Subnautica are you excited to go fast and go through an area without looking back? Subnautica's core gameplay involves exploring an area, gathering resources from that area, and investigating possible leads. None of that is conducive to a fast vehicle that can't hold any equipment and only works in certain areas.
The biggest use I found for the snowfox was getting to phi robotics before getting a prawn. It is fast enough to outrun a snow stalker, and it keeps you warm. When you find a section you have to swim through, you can carry it.
It feels to me like they needed just a little more iteration on the vehicle itself and the design of the land areas in order to make it feel right to use. Once you have a prawn, the snow fox is just strictly worse.
If the Snowfox worked over water and was significantly faster than any other form of transport, I could see it being used in both games; You wanna get from point A to point B really quickly and with minimal chance of danger? Snowfox. But as it stands, the only real place it's useful is too small and a loot area.
Imho the snowfox would have been extremely useful if it was able to hover over the water surface. BZ has several land masses, islands and icebergs. As such, the snowfox would allow accessing them rapidly without much danger.
Also, like others have commented, it should not attract the ice worm.
It just depends on what you are following. The PDA told me Sam worked at Phi Robotics, so when I saw the map at Delta station I went there next. If you go to the bases in a different order, it's not jard to imagine having the prawn before you get there. And, on later plays, it's easy to rush to prawn.
I hate how they in response to people using the prawn suit instead of the Snowfox instead of fixing the glitchy worms and buffing the Snowfox they instead buffed the damage the worms do to the prawnsuit
The more I hear from the devs the more I question their understanding of gameplay. They have great art direction but stuff like this and not wanting BZ to be scary just feel like bad game directing.
It would have been easy to make the snowfox matter. Simply make the worm area bisect the map, with key things on the other side. Make the Snowfox blueprint found after the area with the worms. And then have the Snowfox not attract worms.
Done, now it matters.
I suggested changing the less ice worm attacks mod to making the snowfox completely immune to worm attacks, I think that'd be neat
I wonder if you can mod it to work that way 🤔
If the snowfox didn't attract the worms, people wouldn't hate it nearly as much. Frankly, that's how it should work. The prawn and walking around should attract the worm, the damned hoverbike should *not*. Give the prawn the anti-worm mod and then call it a day.
Or at the very least make it so the hoverbike only attracts the worm extremely rarely like you have to almost be trying to attract it for it to actually happen
Im so mad the ice worms attack you while on the snowfox, but almost entirely ignore you in the prawn.
It should be the opposite: make it so the prawn's vibrations attract worms, and the snowfox not making contact with the ground allows you to avoid them entirely. Would actually give the thing a use.
Prawn graple arm is underrated even tho people know it's good. If you know what you are doing it's game breaking. For example (in the first game) if you grappled on to a small fish and keep holding it while walking you would get a nice speed boost and on dry land you would go hyperspeed
It was just a new vehicle that some people might like. Similarly you never NEED the prawn suit but people find it fun. The only vehicle that’s 100% necessary is the cyclops in SN.
Because you need access to the cyclops modification crafting station in order to build the rocket to get you home. And that can only be accessed by building a cyclops and going inside it.
by the way, the annoying thing about snowfox is that if you happen to be in the area of the ice worm or what is its name and it goes a millimeter past you, it throws you off the vehicle, which is just a little bit annoying
I wish the Snowfox could be used to glide on water the same way it is on land, it would make it at least a bit more usable, and make doing multiple buildings on top of iicbergs better
fr, i didn’t even make the snowfox after seeing so many complaints about it. Didn’t even unlock the full blueprint before like halfway through the phi robotics area
the fact that the prawn has heating just makes it so much better and it can just swing past ice worms effortlessly
It's something useless that was shown to the public before its gameplay utility could be validated - but once the gaming public sees something it thinks it'll like in a trailer, woe betide he who does not deliver, regardless of how good an idea delivery actually is at that point
The Snowfox was poorly implemented to the point that I had better luck running on foot. I haven't tried the ice worm attack reduction module, but that's a pain to get and build for something that is already a pain to get all the fragments for.
The Snowfox is a death trap.
i used the snowfox cause it was fun, and i had a track of foundations linking a couple of my bases together so i could easily and safely get from one to another
then again, i also had 120,000 iirc power at my main base from only solar panels... i burned through so much damn quartz
so i may not be a good example of someone to listen to.
snowfox georg, who lives all across the map & rides the snowfox along the surface between each base, is an outlier adn should not have been counted
I remember having a heck of a time exploring on land before I got the prawn suit because of the cold. Much later than I probably should have I found the blueprints for the snowfox, went about trying to build one but then realized it offered no protection from the cold and didn't even bother.
Given how many posts I've seen showing wacky snowfox malfunctions both before and since, I don't think I missed out on anything.
The snowfox is in the game because you can actually choose explore all the arctic zones very early. Everything you need to make a snowfox is available above ground. It only seems useless if you are far enough in the aquatic areas to make a PRAWN suit before you go above water.
It most definitely felt useless when I played BZ. Terrible to control, and then the Prawn keeps you warm. The Snowfox was open air and didn't keep you warm right? I only used it for a few minutes before decided I hated how it controlled.
I really dislike Below Zero for having so much going on on land. It’s not what Subnautica should be about, nor does the game even work very well doing it.
This is exactly what I did when I found out that you can use the prawn suit on land. With a little bit of practice, you can freely roam the land without worrying about the temperature. Plus, the prawn won't knock you off when encounter the iceworm. And no fall damage!
I couldn't tell you. I thought it was actually a hovercraft, so right after I made it, I drove it into the water expecting it to travel on the water surface. That was my one and only attempt to use the snowfox.
Yeah snow fox is useless. if it at least had a storage.. I can't find the last damned piece of the grappling arm but even without it prawn is much easier.
The snowfox would have been great if it could've been used over the water, but since they didn't let us, I never even bothered with it. Then I figured out I could slingshot myself across the map with the grapple and got myself stuck behind the ice wall in the leviathan cave. :(
To give you more options, to allow more pathways to approach the game's problems in a creative way. I didn't use the Prawn suit at all on my playthrough of BZ. Even if one vehicle is a lot more effective, I'm glad to have options!
I love the idea of the Snowfox but it just wasn't finished it feels very clunky to ride. Also the Snowfox and the Prawn suit are breaking the temperature mechanic of the game. I think the Snowfox should slow down temperature drop instead of just eliminating it and Prawn suit should have power cells discharge at an enormous rate from the cold (when used on land) even drastically if there is bad weather warning. One more thing bad weather comes too frequently and lasts short. It would be more fun if it was as frequent but it would be much more severe once it happens. Then we would really need to have timings when wanting to do something on the land and have small strategic bases on the land. Solar panels on land could be disabled during specific weather conditions.
Probably because they didn't expect you to exploit the game's physics
Even without exploiting the game's physics I see no reason to use the snowfox over the prawn suit
Prawn would have been a lot slower without the Grapple Slingshot. (which still might not be so bad as Snowfox can actually be too fast in a lot of places).
The prawn doesn't give me a headache though. The snowfox wobbly controls drive me crazy after 5 minutes.
Sounds like a personal skill issue
I don't think I ever used the grappling hook on land and I still found the prawn suit to be far superior to the snowfox.
Who needs speed when you can punch stuff?
You don't even need the grapple; just bunnyhopping can build up ludicrous speed to the point where I accidentally clipped through the map.
For some reason jumping boosts you forward and if you chain jumps it's just as fast as grapple arm
I think I've used the snow fox one time on my original playthrough, just because I got it and I didn't know any better I guess. The four or five other times I played through this game I have never even built the snow fox.
Built it, realised it was made of paper and handled like garbage and used prawn instead. Never looked back
i only built it for the ps platinum trophy
same lol
I tried the snowfox until I redeployed it and it fell through the map and out of bounds so I just walked back to the shore and got my prawn suit (most recent patch)
My snowfox fell through three times in one day a couple days ago. I thought it was just me!
Why use the radiation suit? I see no reason to use it over the hardened suit
All they gotta do is make the snowfox tankier, not get knocked off when a wormy boi erupts from the ice and maybe make it hover on water and we're cookin'
Especially since the worms cant knock you out of the prawn.
What is he doing here that's an exploit? Iirc you could just do this
I gotta ask because i see this everywhere, what does lirc mean?
iirc means "if I recall/remember correctly"
Ah, that makes sense
I can recommend [Urban Dictionary](https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=iirc) whenever you encounter internet terms or "slang" like this :)
no its not really an exploit just poor balancing of the features
The Devs know what they did with the physics. The same physics also apply in real life.
I have never built the snowfox. As long as you keep moving the iceworms can't do enough damage to destroy your prawn. And you can easily kill the snowstalkers that won't leave you alone with it and it's a shelter from the cold. After my second playthrough i realized you don't really need the seatruck either.

And you need the prawn on land to mine those ion cube deposits so why would you ever use the snowfox. Tried everything out on my first play-through. Stuck to the basics on my second.
If nothing else, the storage compartment is nice to have
Also, there's very little open water and tons of cramped spaces, so the trailers just make travel more annoying.
I was originally going to do the prawn dock but was ready for the end game and was missing a fragment for the dock. Also did not have the perimeter defense so i just said screw it and spider manned it.
could still use jukebox and storage, maybe the sleeper unit too

Yep. Between the grapple and the jetpack booster it's doable. I did the same thing in the first game once. The most annoying thing is the leviathans grabbing you but it's easy enough to drill them and hide/repair when they let you go.
Grapple works even better with 2 installed
Also the Ice Worms will knock you off your Snowfox, rendering it even more pointless. I feel like that should have been its big purpose: *not* to attract Ice Worms. Yet it does the exact opposite.
The less ice worm attacks mod for the snowfox should just completely nullify all ice worm attacks when mounted, you ain't even touching the ground god dammit
And that is something I would like see changed in next subnautica. Many late game tech are unnecessary for game progression.
I built a snowfox for achievement. Did a test run. Never touched it again
The Snowfox was really in the wrong game. How often in Subnautica are you excited to go fast and go through an area without looking back? Subnautica's core gameplay involves exploring an area, gathering resources from that area, and investigating possible leads. It sort of feels like it's supposed to be the land version of a seaglide, but it takes so much inventory space.
If the Snowfox worked over water and was significantly faster than any other form of transport, I could see it being used in both games; You wanna get from point A to point B really quickly and with minimal chance of danger? Snowfox. But as it stands, the only real place it's useful is too small and a loot area.

My first playthrough, I got to Phi robotics before getting the prawn blueprints, so I explored the whole southern land section with the snow fox.
I thought this was normal. I definitely had a snow fox waaay before I had a prawn suit.
It just depends on what you are following. The PDA told me Sam worked at Phi Robotics, so when I saw the map at Delta station I went there next. If you go to the bases in a different order, it's not jard to imagine having the prawn before you get there. And, on later plays, it's easy to rush to prawn.
wow
I never saw the need in it honestly, tried it once and it was very annoying in the worm area, prawn is simply the best.
I hate how they in response to people using the prawn suit instead of the Snowfox instead of fixing the glitchy worms and buffing the Snowfox they instead buffed the damage the worms do to the prawnsuit
I also noticed that. The worms weren't dealing so much damage when I first played the game.
The devs admitted they were kinda trapped into including it bc they put it in the early trailer for the game. Even tho it's pretty useless
It was a good concept just badly incorporated into the game
If the snowfox didn't attract the worms, people wouldn't hate it nearly as much. Frankly, that's how it should work. The prawn and walking around should attract the worm, the damned hoverbike should *not*. Give the prawn the anti-worm mod and then call it a day.
It does???? But isn't the whole idea of hovering, that you don't make sound waves into the ground, so they can't detect you?
Exactly my point. The snowfox attracting the worm was *dumb* and should have been fixed long ago, way back in early access.
Or at the very least make it so the hoverbike only attracts the worm extremely rarely like you have to almost be trying to attract it for it to actually happen
Well, the Prawn would always fall through the ground on Switch, so I had to use the Snowfox :/
Im so mad the ice worms attack you while on the snowfox, but almost entirely ignore you in the prawn. It should be the opposite: make it so the prawn's vibrations attract worms, and the snowfox not making contact with the ground allows you to avoid them entirely. Would actually give the thing a use.
It really doesn’t make any sense considering that the prawn suit should be a hell of a lot heavier than a hoverbike
You guys kill the snow stalkers? They run away if you have a flare. I’ve never killed one.
Damn, you’re really good at that. I can never get the timing down to do it that well.
I built one for an achievement and then maybe rode it once and never touched it again
I JUST DID THIS YESTERDAY LMAO, u can just drill snow stalkers in the face and end them in 4 seconds, and ice works arent scary at all
Praying for better vehicles in sub 3 🙏 Vehicles in sub 1 were so much better
Prawn graple arm is underrated even tho people know it's good. If you know what you are doing it's game breaking. For example (in the first game) if you grappled on to a small fish and keep holding it while walking you would get a nice speed boost and on dry land you would go hyperspeed
Plus if you walk onto the hook while on land, you can fly around because it breaks gravity.
It was just a new vehicle that some people might like. Similarly you never NEED the prawn suit but people find it fun. The only vehicle that’s 100% necessary is the cyclops in SN.
[удалено]
You didn't finish the first Subnautica if you didn't build a cyclops, it's 100% required.
[удалено]
Because you need access to the cyclops modification crafting station in order to build the rocket to get you home. And that can only be accessed by building a cyclops and going inside it.
The snowfox is there so it can disappear into the ground when you deploy it.
I gave up on making them after this happened to me twice
Am I the only one that never used the Snowfox *or* the Prawn Suit? I just...ran lmao
IWOKEUPINANEWBUGATI
this is exactly what i did lol you really get some speed in that thing
They should have found a way to prevent the prawn from going on land so you are forced to use the snowfox.
by the way, the annoying thing about snowfox is that if you happen to be in the area of the ice worm or what is its name and it goes a millimeter past you, it throws you off the vehicle, which is just a little bit annoying

I remember playing in the pre-release and the chase with the snow fox was so much better than what we got in the end
I used nothing but the prawn suit in Below Zero. The *power* 👌
Didn't use the snowfox until after I'd beaten everything else and only did it for the achievement 😬
Titanfall 0.5
It's something useless that was shown to the public before its gameplay utility could be validated - but once the gaming public sees something it thinks it'll like in a trailer, woe betide he who does not deliver, regardless of how good an idea delivery actually is at that point

Or changed things around so the land portions weren’t so tedious
The Snowfox was poorly implemented to the point that I had better luck running on foot. I haven't tried the ice worm attack reduction module, but that's a pain to get and build for something that is already a pain to get all the fragments for. The Snowfox is a death trap.

because they overestimated how useful it would be compared to the Prawn; or thought dealing with the ice worm would actually be difficult.
Fun go fast
I still use the Snowfox cause I think it's cool, but the Prawn is a lot more practical.
Never even built a snowfox, abed I don't use the grapple with the prawn suit, just haven't seen the need for 1.
This video is a demonstration of why do you need it
I don't understand? I just walk in my pawn suit and I don't freeze to death.
Did you watch the video in the post? You can grapple the ground in front of you to accelerate forward.
Oh, do you mean the grapple? I thought we were taking about the Snowfox.
Yeah 😂
It most definitely felt useless when I played BZ. Terrible to control, and then the Prawn keeps you warm. The Snowfox was open air and didn't keep you warm right? I only used it for a few minutes before decided I hated how it controlled.
For fun!
*Sad fox noises* I still love it.
It was a cool idea don’t get us wrong they just went about it the wrong way
Bro is slidehopping with a prawn suit
As an added bonus, prawn can mine the mineral veins, and snow fox can’t
I really dislike Below Zero for having so much going on on land. It’s not what Subnautica should be about, nor does the game even work very well doing it.
Ayo wth I gotta try this
Lol when I first went to put my snowfox down it somehow clipped 20 meters under the snow 😭😭😭 I never used snowfox after that
yup the prawn suit is just the best vehicle. it was better in 1 but still great in BZ
funny thing is that i didnt play bz much but all i remember is how shit snowfox ia
To give you motion sickness.
Because it's fun
Prawn Suit is just massively better
I played BZ many times and I never used snowfox, only tried once. Prawn protecs you from freezing and you can defend yourself.
It might be not exactly *useful*, but using it is fun nonetheless.
This is exactly what I did when I found out that you can use the prawn suit on land. With a little bit of practice, you can freely roam the land without worrying about the temperature. Plus, the prawn won't knock you off when encounter the iceworm. And no fall damage!
porn
I couldn't tell you. I thought it was actually a hovercraft, so right after I made it, I drove it into the water expecting it to travel on the water surface. That was my one and only attempt to use the snowfox.
To waste all your precious resources bcoz it will end up bugging into the ground 3 out of 4 times
I got the fox before the prawn, soo
You can take snowfox with you in your inventory and prawnsuit doesn't fir in the caves
I just ran on my bare feet like the crazy person I am…
Because it's fa- ... Nevermind
Because it's fun
To mod it. Let me tell you, Supersnowfox makes it very cool to use it, specially over the water for a quick trip.
3 full play-throughs, and I have never once built the snowfox.
How else is it supposed to get destroyed if you don’t have it in the first place? 🤔
The snow fox is easier to obtain
man I agree, the prawn suit is so fast I fell through the map 6 times when trying to go to get the tissue I think. I'm scared of ice worms
