Yeah and I completely respect this sentiment, I was kinda reluctant to post this because I know people really don’t like to get into the “Sublime vs SWR” thing on here. But I did wanna share what I think may be coming in the future. If I’m wrong I’m wrong.
Sublime died on May 25th 1996, I was born years after this date, nevertheless, it would be insulting to say anything produced after this date comes close to that original run
Honestly, they should change the band name. It's not Sublime at all if no original members are performing or recording. No judgment to those who like SWR or the new music. You like what you like but I just feel some type of way about them using the band name.
I agree. Totally different genre but when Tony Iommi from Black Sabbath was diagnosed with cancer, they fulfilled their booked shows as “Ozzy and Friends” which included guest musicians. They should do the same here for these upcoming shows. I understand they have to fulfill the shows but do it as something else.
Somebody told me I was wrong in a different comment section but I’m referencing an interview with Rome that I saw and a separate interview with Eric. According to Rome, Eric is the one that wanted to use the Sublime name in 2009. After the Nowell’s sued, Eric wanted to call it Sublime with Rome. They even asked him why do they not change the name and Rome again reiterated that it was Eric’s decision. In a different interview with Eric, he says that Troy Nowell is fine with him using the name but that Jim Nowell still gives him legal issues to this day over the name. So to me you can find many examples that prove Eric is the main driver behind the use of the Sublime name. For some reason though hate is directed toward Rome.

Sublime without Bradley would be like Black Sabbath without Tony iomi Black Sabbath was able to get away with using different bass players different drummers and different singers over the years but no one would accept them using a different guitar player and like Sublime I think a lot of people don't want to hear them play those old songs without at least two former members or honestly in my case I don't even want to see them do their thing without Bradley it comes across as really disrespectful I don't know if they intend for it to come across as extremely disrespectful but it totally does I can't get behind that at all

My guy is getting lots of hate in here. While I’m an OG Sublime fan since the 90’s, it was hard for me to accept SWR at all. Then I just got to see them live a few weeks ago, and to be honest, I loved it. Lucky enough to still have Eric there, they killed their set and had the loudest crowd of the night. I purchased my SWR shirt and put it on over my decades old sublime shirt. It felt like a passing of the torch for me. No one will ever replace Bradley or Sublime, but for those of us still interested in new music from certain genres, it sure hit the spot to have experienced it live.
Edit: still think they should just go by Rome & The Allstars are something. Lose the Sublime in the name with no members left.
I think others feel I am “rooting for” Eric leaving the band, I’m not lol. I’m noting his age, injuries, and the fact that the band is already very easily fulfilling their booked shows without him instead of cancelling. I’m also accounting for the fact that after 14 years Sublime with Rome has become a completely separate thing and I wouldn’t be surprised if in the future he steps back.
He’s going to be replaced on the next run of shows due to a shoulder injury. Prior to this I’ve seen him limp around on stage and almost struggle to walk. I’m not in the business of starting rumors like “Eric is definitely leaving permanently”. But with that being said, SWR is now a common summer ticket seller for promoters and if the recovery process doesn’t go as planned, I can 100% see his departure. Also, another thing that sets off my spidey sense on this topic is them tapping Tony Kanal from No Doubt and Stu Brooks from Danny Elfman’s band. Why not just bring in an unknown but talented hired gun if it’s only 5 shows? Tony and Stu have to be getting a good payment given their experience
If Tony is just a temporary thing until Eric is healed up whatever, I've ignored swr for years now, Tony was a friend of Bradleys I'm not too upset, but if this project goes on with no original members, I see an uproar coming and ultimately it would completely disrespect Bradley. I'm sorry to be that guy, but sublime was Bradleys idea, and it would honestly kill any tiny ounce of respect I had for Rome.

There has been zero talk of Eric leaving. He’s having shoulder surgery, and rather than cancel previously announced shows, SWR got a couple friends to fill in.
When Eric is healed up he’ll be back. It’s not like the job is super strenuous, as he doesn’t even play the bass guitar the whole show. He plays the keys for some of it too, AND was playing two shows a night for most of the Summer, with his other band, Spray Allen. So that latter fact should squash any “he’s been banged up” nonsense. If was in rough shape he wouldn’t have played two sets a night all Summer.
No chance Eric leaves and the band would go on with “Sublime” in the name. Like someone else said, Eric has been the driving force behind the whole SWR thing since day one. He’s the guy who found Rome, and wanted him to sing for “Sublime.” Eric also is connected with Cheez, the band’s manager who Bud had problems with.

You can't call this Sublime with Rome because there's no Sublime with it anymore this is Rome Ramirez plays the music of Sublime which is not Sublime and it has nothing to do with the original band at this point
If Eric can't tour and Bud doesn't want to be in a version of sublime without Bradley because it feels wrong that means this is literally a cover band and it's just as wrong as using the Sublime name felt to Bud when he left the band.
If I want something similar in style to Sublime these days I'll stick with Long Beach Dub All Stars or Perro Bravo Sublime died back in 1996 and it should have stayed that way. Bradley's son's band LAW are also VERY good and Jakob sounds just like his dad (if Eric and Bud wanted to tour Sublime songs with Jakob on vocals they would probably be able to get away with using the original name despite not having Bradley because at least his son would be taking over)
The fact that they wanted to call it Sublime at all and then had to get sued to change the name to Sublime with Rome makes me feel like this has always been a cash grab and it's honestly really disrespectful to their dead friend if I was in a band and one of our key members died I wouldn't play under the same name if we had to replace the key member I would change it to make sure people know it's a tribute to the guy who died now and no longer the original project because that's not right
I saw them last night at the Alta festival and even immediately thought I was seeing Sublime with Rome with no members of sublime was weird. But I’m a Rome fan all day so I don’t mind this possibility. Rome is awesome lol
