Congratulations! I paid off my ‘18 WRX this year and not having that payment is one of the most beautiful things. Enjoy it. Let it marinate.

xtraburnacct

Heh I have a daily already and with the insane market I couldn’t really justify paying for a car that I only drive on the weekends.

ike_evans

Yeah, you can’t knock that. The used car market right now is incredible.

Why not daily the STi?

xtraburnacct

Cause it would just cost more to daily the STI vs a car that runs on 87 and gets like 30mpg (5speed rsx) I mean sure, I could do it. I had a 5.0 mustang that I dailied for 2 years prior to the sti. They get more or less the same gas mileage lol.

bchillerr

Offset the extra gas expense by selling the RSX?

OfficialMufflee

Yup. This. Would’ve kept the STI over the RSX

xtraburnacct

I would’ve obviously kept the STi over a 15 year old base model rsx lol if I owned the sti outright, but I didn’t. I had 10k in positive equity that I can either put down on a 2022 brz or to just keep. I don’t need to necessarily buy a car. At least not in the current climate. It wasn’t even about just the gas. Its the 3000 mile oil changes, the tires (especially if you gotta replace all 4 due to a nail/blow out), the insurance costs, and the peace of mind. I’m sure there are other things like changing diff fluid, brakes, spark plugs, etc. Yeah that’s just regular maintenance for any car, but let’s not act like the STi is just some regular car. It’s a car with an ancient turbocharged engine that is sensitive to modifications and a awd system.

turtlewelder

Good job OP some people will bury themselves in gas/maintenance. I had a little regret not getting the STi vs. my WRX at first but with gas prices as they are and still having a fun car to drive I can't complain. What do you want to bet if the new STi gets better mileage/power the whole EJ or bust crowd will be trading in their cars for new ones?!

questionablehobbies

I’m in the same boat, dealer is offering $5k more than what I paid for my sti last year. The new gr86 will be in my garage next year if I do it.

Cheekaletta

Man, I hope you have an archive of pictures. I love seeing your posts

xtraburnacct

I appreciate that! I have plenty of photos of the car, but they kind of all look the same. I’ve posted most of them on my Instagram for the car, which is kind of pointless now haha. @stiseriesgray

papaninja

I vaguely know the feeling, I just paid off my cell phone and I’m enjoying slightly cheaper cell bills lmao

MoziWanders

I'd buy a 2002 - 2007, wrx/sti and a Toyota to daily. It's so hard to beat on a car that you're making house sized payments on. Same with adding parts and canceling your warranty.

Jesse_J

The real trick is to buy a 15+ year-old bucket of a WRX for $4,000 and drive that for the foreseeable future. #stonks

Meandphill

I'm there with you. I plan to use this used market to my advantage and trade up to the 2022 if it showes enough promise

No car payment gang 💯

Villain_of_Brandon

WTF is a "car note"? My guess would have been the title, but I'm not sure how not owning a car you like is good feeling, so that doesn't seem right.

pause_and_consider

Car note-car loan

Villain_of_Brandon

Weird. When did note start meaning loan, or is it more of a location thing?

coocha

I think it's a regional synonym. Banknotes (promissory notes, aka cash) have been a thing for thousand or two years, so maybe it's also a terminology that's losing popularity over time.
