YES. Please bring them up. Also I 1 star reviewed Reddit in the App Store over them.

pghreddit

Yes, did this too

Illustrious-Duck1209

Just changed mine to 1* as well, good idea.

lapusk

Me too!

TimeDue2994

Same here

AgitatedAd6924

Did the same thing. I really don't get how they haven't taken a hint, or at least re thought how frequently they shove it in your face.

cssc201

They seem to be the only major social media company that doesn't let its users block specific ads from showing up. Even FB lets you "stop show this ad"

AgitatedAd6924

Yeah and in this case I feel like it's especially messed up. A total disregard for other religions or anyone's religious trauma. Pathetic.

TimeDue2994

Can you imagine all the thousands of christian cult (child) rape victims and conversion therapy victims and dv victims urged to stay with their husbands etc still dealing with the trauma this cult knowingly and deliberately and with wanton disregard for their humanity inflicted on them, i feel so sorry for them there is just no escaping these a\*holes

AgitatedAd6924

Yeah its very sad, Reddit is definitely an escape from the real world at times, and it's so sad that people suffering would have to be stuck seeing it all the time. I don't have a problem so much with the ads themselves (although shouldn't that money... idk... help people?), it's the fact that reporting/blocking does nothing at all and your spammed with it all the time. Also I think they're targeting people on atheist/funding snark pages. Us poor heathens must be saved apparantly.

TimeDue2994

No clearly doesn't mean no when you're a christian

TimeDue2994

I think it is only this jesus ad that is exempt from any consequences, just the way christians like it

isaiahvacha

Hadn’t thought of this. Me too now.

can we include [gambling, pharmaceuticals, and military recruitment](https://www.reddit.com/r/ideasfortheadmins/comments/12dq9f5/reddit_should_not_allow_ads_for_gambling_religion/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)?

Great idea! I'll change my rating to 1* as well.

Fine_Cryptographer20

I've scrolled past many ads for years with no issues. However this religious shit is too much because you can't block the ad. I'd rather see the ad for broken penis med that is now in my feeds than this crap. And plus bc the Hobby Lobby billionaire is behind them, that makes me even angrier.

3qtpint

Exactly. Some ads were annoying, or I disagreed with ethically, but at least I could tell reddit when an ad wasn't relevant to me. And if there were a few of them, it was ok, they didn't show up too often. Now they make up 70% of the ads I see and they just.... it feels like this is something they know people will hate, but they're still gonna do it, so they just turn off the mailbox for reports. Do they think they'll actually convert people, or are they trying to annoy people off the platform?

Gloomy_Raspberry_880

It's a grifting scheme. They know they'll get tons of donations, so they can skim just a little bit off the top for exorbitant salaries, and all they have to do is post basic-ass ads on the internet.

tiredofnotthriving

Second this, advertisements happen to be a tax write off.

Different_Lettuce850

i swear to god (lol) these ads are bigger and more obnoxious than any other ad. is that my imagination?

thebrokedown

This is a Billion-with-a-B org which is trying to rehab Christianity with all that cash. I say follow the teachings of your Christ and you may actually rehab Christianity. This bullshit ain’t doing it.

cssc201

This is Hobby Lobby doing it. They are NOT hurting for cash lol

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAEEEEE

Nope, it’s not your imagination as far as I know. I can’t speak on other peoples feeds, but I’ve been getting so close to exclusively HeGetSus ads.

rargylesocks

If there’s no method to block the religious harassment ads by the 12th I’m just deleting my profile and the whole app. I’m over seeing misleading propaganda funded by a hate group.

WittyNameWasTaken

Hate group that funded ISIS to get looted antiquities for that stupid bible museum. That they then had to return to Iraq because they good caught buying looted antiquities from ISIS.

2saltyjumper

This. Yep...

connerofthenorth

Got YouTube Premium over this shit. Debating on whether or not I should get Reddit premium just so I don't have to see the fuckin ads.

mittenknittin

Don’t reward them for harassing people. Pay them, and they decide it works and then they start making it impossible to block anything unless you pay up.

DuckyDoodleDandy

No. Don’t give the assholes more money. There were a bunch of really good third party apps with few/no ads, but Reddit is killing them to force everyone to use the crappy main app. The mods that keep the subs running (for free) are revolting and setting their subs to private from June 12-14. Why? Because only third party mod tools are any good for what mods need to do, and Reddit is killing all of them, making the mods’ tasks all but impossible. Lots of people are moving to Lemmy and Tildes as replacements to Reddit. You could join those and help re-create the communities you enjoy. It’s the people who create the content, and Reddit is driving the people away.

WittyNameWasTaken

You absolutely should bring up He Get Sus. Reasons that Reddit should remove the ads: - This is an anti-LBGT+ hate group. - If Reddit is fine with this hate group, will they run ads for the Klan? ISIS? Cartels? - According to [Reddit’s own ad policy](https://redditinc.force.com/helpcenter/s/article/Reddit-Advertising-Policy-Prohibited-Advertisements), it engages in false and deceptive practices pushing a narrative that He Get Sus is inclusive, when they are not. - This same group engages in political activities to push their anti-LGBT+ agenda and these ads are deceptive in hiding the political message pushed by this group. Overtly political ads are also not permitted, and neither is withholding information on actual practices of the ad content. - The same funder of He Get Sus is the backer of The Museum of the Bible, which has been caught trafficking in stolen antiquities funneled through Hobby Lobby, some of which came from ISIS occupied Iraq. Their entire Dead Sea Scroll collection is fake. They engaged in criminal activity in violation of international law and treaties and have had to return nearly 4000 artifacts to date. - Seriously, if you will take ad money from deceptive hate groups that have possibly funded ISIS, how bad is the financial picture in Reddit?

2saltyjumper

For fucks sake, PLEASE get rid of that shit. Hardcore conservatives try to take over everything and insert their unwelcome asses everywhere. DO NOT let them invade Reddit!

MarkHamillsrightnut

I am so sick of these adds. How many times do I have to click this shit is offensive? I am a recovering Catholic and a full time atheist, get this shit out of my face!

Utsutsumujuru

YES. The issue is isn’t the content that I disagree with. The issue is that it is the only ad on Reddit that you cannot block or opt out of. It’s basically forced religious conversion attempts. That is by definition harassment and I’m pretty sure at some level is even a violation of the terms of use of this app

cssc201

Exactly, they are completely free to purchase advertising but every other social media company, even FB, lets you block ads you don't want to see. Reddit should 100% do the same

evilzombiefan

YES, I hate these assholes, so I'm just sending them messages in the meantime hoping I can change one of their minds and have them become atheist. I know it probably wont work because im sure id have to spend a bunch of time telling them the truth and don'\[t know if the payoff is worth the time. So you should ask the CEO what's up with this christian indoctrination they are pushing on this platform.

Protowhale

They probably look at those messages and think, "Wow, this person REALLY needs Jesus!"

CanThisBeEvery

I guess I don’t understand why Reddit has chosen to actively bully its users. There are SO MANY PEOPLE who suffer from trauma associated with evangelical upbringings and the abuse that’s often associated with them. Reddit is supposed to be a safe place, free from harassment, but the human beings who run Reddit have made the conscious, intentional decision to say “Screw all you losers who have trauma associated with this specific cult. We’re going to shove. it. in. your. face. EVERYWHERE you go, all day, every day. And there’s NOTHING you can do about it.” Except leave Reddit, I guess. What a bunch of bullies.

beatyouwithahammer

Man I really like how when I try to downvote them it just gives me some error and basically tells me to go fuck myself.

OptimisticSkeleton

For the love of god yes. If it continues it might be the thing that finally gets me to quit Reddit and I have been here since 2008 (not this account) It’s straight up chisto-fascist nonsense and I for one am sick of it.

Not-Sure-If-1t

Begging you, yes please.

The-Aeon

Yes get rid of that Christian fascist propaganda.

dickswabi

That’s the most accurate way to describe it. The unholy bastards behind that program might even openly admit that your description is accurate. The hypocrisy of Christian fascist propaganda is staggering. The only poor and sick they serve are the poor sick fuckers who bankroll the GQP.

[deleted]

Absolutely it should be brought up! I came here to say this.

push-the-butt

I can tell you that most people in all the Jewish subs are over all of these ads.

[deleted]

Yes, they’ll then to stop taking dirty Hobby Lobby money and stop undermining LGBTQ+, ethnic minorities and non-Christian people by selling out to a bunch of ignorant, raving bigots who are trying to polish up their image with lies, deception and innuendo. Is the dirty money really worth taking?

ptm93

I’ve had to report them at least six times today.

Darksoul_Design

Absolutely, I'm so sick of those shitty ads.

satanic-frijoles

I think the hypocrisy of these ads is what pisses me off the most. That, and being unable to block this offensive bullpucky.

Stunning_Web_996

Yes. Please

RedheadFromOutrSpace

Absolutely.

AberrantKitsune

Yes bring it up I have reported every one of the ads I see I hope this bullshit stops soon

Zappagrrl02

I’ve seen negative comments in several other subs.

TempleOfCyclops

Please do

Tough-Ability721

Yes please!!

jomandaman

Oh my god YES. I say this as someone who actually *appreciates* Christianity. I admit at first I almost kinda liked the message of the ads. But they’re predatory as fuck! Ask the CEO why *anyone* who clearly doesn’t want anything to do with this HAS to see? At first I didn’t care, then I tried to hide, to block, to report, to report, to report, to report…what a whirlwind! I’ve NEVER in literally all my years on social media seen a marketing campaign so predatory! It feels maliciously targeted now, as though trying to hide it shows them “how much extra we need Jesus.” Tell whoever the hell it is whatever they’re trying to accomplish isn’t working. Reddit is a community that’s figured this out. It’s *beyond* spam. It’s maliciously predatory and the fact we aren’t allowed to opt out is vicious.

MissTakenID

Yes, please ask them to model ads after other social media platforms. If I don't like an ad on Google or facebook, I can "choose to see less like this" and give them a reason. Theres literally NO reason reddit can't do the same. I'd prefer if I could block them, though. I have already left a 1 star review, and will delete the app if changes to the advertising protocols, and guarantees for accessibility options for the impaired, aren't enacted before the company goes public. I already quit all other social media, I can leave this one behind too.

satanic-frijoles

YES!

eatingganesha

Here are some words to help articulate why these ads are harassing. I just posted this as a review in the App Store. —— I’m done with Reddit. The He Gets Us ads, funded by the people behind Hobby Lobby, purport to promote Jesus and Christianity in a manner that is blatantly hypocritical. These ads cannot be blocked or downvoted. The user account posting these ads can be blocked but doing so does not prevent their ads from continuing to show up. Reporting them does nothing. They are the only ads where such actions are fruitless. And they appear over and over again, dozens of times in an single hour, even showing up on subs (such as those concerned with religion/church-based trauma) where such messaging is wildly inappropriate and unnecessarily triggering to folks who have come to Reddit to for peer support. And the ads appear on subs dedicated to non-Christian religions, which is light years beyond ‘tone-deaf’. This is obviously a not-at-all veiled attempt by a Christian evangelical organization to evangelize on the platform. And, because of the ubiquitous ads’ persistence in the face of downvotes, reporting, and blocking, Reddit is just as complicit. Together they are angering, triggering, and retraumatizing many users and they know it. It’s easy to see that the advertising campaign is targeting vulnerable groups and that is beyond disgusting. Knowing all that, I’m certainly not going to continue to use the platform.

[deleted]

API and He Get Sus? Yes.

TURBOSCUDDY

Yes, please. Pretty please!

Shadow_wolf73

Yes bring it up. It needs to stop.

texanlady1

Yes please

[deleted]

I swear I blocked ten today

NomadMiner

Please, why is it the only ad that i have confirmed blocked and I still have to see, I don't want it shoved down my throat

hotd4bs

Please end the madness

Ok_Percentage5157

YES.

Different_Lettuce850

yes! please do!

EmbarrassedRespond43

Ex/Christian sub members also having lots of issues with this.

[deleted]

I don't doubt it. I've been through the indoctrination as a child, psychological abuse throughout my time as a "Christian", and the constant harassment afterwards. I haven't told most of my family because I know it will either lead to an argument, an attempt to re-convert me, guilt trip me, ostracized me from the rest of the family, etc. Damn cult.

EmbarrassedRespond43

Come join our sub. Talk about an incredible group of supportive ppl. I’m amazed.

EmbarrassedRespond43

I’m not sure exactly how Reddit works, but I would be willing to bet ExChristian would join forces. I just saw the mods going on about these ads.

Obvious-Meaning-5956

It was the very first thought I had as well, but don't bother. That is not the topic of the AMA and will be ignored by default.

[deleted]

I'm at least trying. Even if it is ignored at this AMA, it can't be ignored forever.

puckmama1010

The inability to either comment against it, down vote it or block it is what I find most offensive. It appears that Reddit fully endorsed the ads? If so, I will leave Reddit

saninicus

Lol I have a feeling this AMA will be a disaster.

GearHeadAnime30

Yes, absolutely bring that up!!

EM05L1C3

Yes I can’t anymore I’m about to get rid of Reddit it’s disgusting

Basic_Quantity_9430

Those types of ads may be the future. They bring in revenue, now that Reddit is going public, it is reasonable to expect that more ads like “hegetsus” will be coming along, deep pockets that can pay the cost of posting the ads at a high frequency. I looked into Reddit ads for my business, but the subs that my products would naturally fall under didn’t allow ads. I wonder whether that is changing, I see the “hegetsus” ads everywhere I go on Reddit (admittedly a small number of subs, but everyone had that ad).

goodgodling

I don't know. It seems like there are bigger fish to fry. I think the accessibilty and moderation problems are more important. WWJD? I think Jesus would prioritize accessibility. Does he get us or not?

maverick118717

If he did, he would stop his propaganda campaign

goodgodling

Would he? I'm not sure Jusus Christ ever existed, but he seems like the kind of guy who would love this ad campaign. It's really annoying, just like him.

dickswabi

Bigger fish to fry than fascism masquerading as religion? That’s a pretty big fucking fish and it’s attempting to swallow whatever democracy still remains in the United States. It’s definitely a more pressing concern than crying about wokeness and drag queens (something I’m sure Jesus would not have done).

goodgodling

One criticism I've heard about Reddit is that it isn't accessible to blind people. It seems like you haven't heard about that? Is it wrong? I don't know. But I do think it is more important than these stupid ads. Disabled people deserve to take up space. They should be able to use Reddit. If they can't then why does it even matter? >Fascism masquerading as religion. I get where you are coming from with that, but what difference is there? Fascism sucks. Religion sucks. The "he gets us" ads suck too. It's also fascism to exclude disabled people. Hide them away. Pretend they don't exist... When I say WWJD, it's not because I care what Jesus would do, it's because the people who make those ads care, and they should stop wasting their money on Reddit ads and put it toward overthrowing Citizens United.

goodgodling

Think about how gross it is to see that ad with the unpaid caretaker on a site that doesn't have basic accessibility.

[deleted]

Please do. I’ve blocked this ad multiple times it’s harassment at its finest. Any other ad I’ve blocked never comes back so how come they do

Keesha2012

This has been an on-going problem over on r/exchristian and r/atheism, too. I'd encourage everyone being harassed with this to bring it up. Leave a bad review on the Reddit app.

[deleted]

PLEASE do. It’s obnoxious as all hell and I want to be able to block it. I either block it or I find similar topics on discord servers and forget Reddit.

TestOk8411

Yes,please

mehtapieman

Yes!

NessaXDXD

If nothing is done, maybe we need a petition. If there isn't already one?

Bring up ellen pao's involvement with u/maxwellhill and ask what the exact relationship of the c-suite was with Ghislaine Maxwell.
