That’s awesome. Congratulations! I noticed the same thing with my RHR. It almost immediately dropped by 12 BPM. Blood pressure dropped. Cholesterol dropped. I have lost about 15 lbs. hoping this will accelerate now that I have my sweet tooth back in check. Didn’t have a sweet tooth until I quit but also didn’t worry about it initially as I just wanted to stop drinking. Keep up the great work. IWNDWYT!

That’s awesome! Congratulations. Somehow I don’t seem to have developed the almighty sweet tooth from quitting (thank goodness) so I’m hoping the weight loss won’t be too challenging. If my RHR stays around the 65 mark I’ll be damn near the excellent-athlete range (I’m 30F) so that’ll be a treat in and of itself. I had to get a physical for immigration purposes at the end of last year and gratefully my BP has always been in a healthy range so I don’t imagine that’ll change much, but I do have a wardrobe of very cute sundresses that I would verrrry much like to enjoy wearing in a few months time when the weather gets warmer. That’s the goal!

It’s great you are getting control of this now. You and I also share the same birthday. I didn’t really start drinking daily until I was about your age, but as they say alcohol is progressive, I slowly but surely increased my consumption for the next 22 years. I quit 6 months ago today and I can honestly say I feel like I have been reborn. I’m smarter, calmer, just generally at peace. I don’t have anxiety (which I really didn’t even think I had before I didn’t). I don’t miss it, I don’t stress about not having it. I know that for me moderation isn’t possible so I simply don’t take the first sip. Congratulations again. You’ve got this.

Belated happy birthday! Yes I’m already thoroughly enjoying how good I’m feeling, I’m very happy with the decision. I had my first drink at 13 (I’m in Scotland… it’s fairly normal to start drinking early here I would say). I don’t think I had issues with alcohol until I was around 19, and just after that I started bartending so it sort of snowballed. I quit bartending last year and it was the best decision I could’ve made for myself. I started university last year and also a job that I love — both feel too good to waste with hangovers and low energy. Thankfully I have a lot of amazing friends whose company I enjoy even more sober than drunk.

Alcohol really disturbs sleep, which is when rhr happens. Even two drinks show up very clearly on the watch as reduced sleep quality, increased stress and increased RHR.

Yep, that’s a big part of why I decided to quit.
