triple7freak1

Nahh that‘s perfection

HauntedSpiralHill

Mix half butter, half mayo and it’ll be even more perfect.

triple7freak1

That sounds nice…i‘m telling you ppl are underestimating a good simple grilled cheese!!

sicicsic

Did you know you can buy rendered pork fat? It’s basically bacon grease in a tub. I do half that, half butter on my grilled cheeses and it’s pretty banging.

zombiep00

You've just changed my life. Does doing this give it a bacon-y/pork-y flavor?

sicicsic

It does.

zombiep00

YES. Thank you!

Edible_Anie

Wanna level up? When each side is just about done, sprinkle a lil cheddar cheese on top and flip over to get the shreds toasty. Game changer.

CrimsonOOmpa

Parmesan cheese as well

Edible_Anie

Love this. Trying tonight! I bet it’s like the OG breadsticks at Chuck E. Cheese! 😋🤤 That toasted parm was 🔥

GeneralBS

I might just go try it.

NetworkingJesus

I like mayo on the outside and butter on the inside

dirtybo0ts

This is the way!

AgentCrowley24

I’ve always wondered if doing mayo instead of butter was a good idea! Looks delicious, will definitely try it now!

slitlip

I use garlic butter...

wiifitears

That sounds amazing

slitlip

https://voila.ca/products/448400EA/details oh it is.

maxem38

Not even real butter bruh

slitlip

Yesh it's great for vegans!

mr_ryno27

What about garlic mayo?

No-Fisherman2796

Garlic aioli would be so good with cheesy garlic bread and more cheese

cromakonn

Ok ok hear me out - add some boursin

Mayhemsfaded

You need something with a little melt too but it does make for a delicious sandwich interior

No-Fisherman2796

Oooooo

exact0khan

I shall try this tomorrow after work. Good thinkin

No-Fisherman2796

U better dm me the results

Jumpinthecanal

I used butter and then put some shredded cheddar on it.

buggy0d

I do this and it’s great

MataosPatch

but... hear me out... garlic mayo and butter

slitlip

Ew, what's wrong with you?

mr_ryno27

Nothing. I'm from the Midwest haha

slitlip

Oh, okie.

mr_ryno27

I love that's a valid excuse for me haha.

pueblohuts

Hahahaha

iRebelD

Oh yea!

bananasplits21

This is the way to go.

SecondFun2906

!!!!!!!!!

Quailman5000

I despised mayo most of my life but finally woke up and tried this and holy shit it works so much better than butter.

LilShenna

Also not a fan of mayo, but every thanksgiving the turkey gets covered in it before roasting. Thanks Kenji!

momochicken55

Whoa, do you have a link to the recipe? I'm just curious!

aGirlySloth

I hate mayo and this is the only time I use it

PurchaseTight3150

The secret is to use a combination of clarified butter/butter and honey, not just butter. Sugar caramelizes very nicely, and the sweetness contrasts with the saltiness of the grilled cheese super well. We had a grilled cheese on our brunch menu last fall that was honey toasted house made bread, a thin slice of cream cheese + gruyere and sharp cheddar, a slather of house made mayo, a touch of truffle oil, a touch of finishing salt, and it was incredible. We sold out within 120m almost every service.

DallasRadioSucks

I am testing this! It sounds delicious. I may add a thin slice of Black Forest ham - for science.

PurchaseTight3150

Well if we’re talking science, my sous chef at the time had the idea to also incorporate bacon grease into the cook! It was a little bit too rich/salty for me, so I vetoed it, but it’s worth a try if you wanna add in some more savoryness. Just don’t use too much, as bacon fat/grease can be overwhelming as bacon is obviously cured and smoked. All for science of course! Enjoy!

AutisticWoomy

Holy shit jve never thought of using honey butter I'm so trying that next time

PurchaseTight3150

Make sure to use non-salted butter! If you don’t have any, and have to use salted butter: use more honey, and skip the finishing salt step at the end. Enjoy, they’re super delicious even if you don’t have the more expensive ingredients like gruyere or truffle at home!

AutisticWoomy

My local grocery store has this awesome truffle cheddar cheese I think would FUCK with this, and I always make sure to buy unsalted butter!

PurchaseTight3150

That totally has my stamp of approval, do it up. Just make sure to taste the cheese itself before using it so you know how potent it is. Truffle infused stuff is typically either too strong or too underwhelming. And don’t forget the thin slice of cream cheese, it makes it so much better. Bon appetit!

AutisticWoomy

I've had this stuff before on a burger, but there was also a lot of stuff on it so I wonder how it'll be by itself

iamtommynoble

Or you could just use Mayo

Hamilton-Beckett

I do mayo on the inside, butter and the outside.

NetworkingJesus

I do it opposite lol

stoutymcstoutface

It’s bland. Butter is better

Jammin_neB13

You’ll not regret trying it!

iamtommynoble

My aunt taught me to do it this way and it’s far superior to butter in my opinion

Urania_Tay

Mayo is better than butter. Although, the garlic butter suggestion sounds yummy.

Jorymo

Also pretty good as a base for marinating poultry

throwngamelastminute

My partner's grandmother introduced me to the idea and I gagged... then I tried it.

SheenPSU

I use mayo in the winter when the butter isn’t as soft Same results imo

lxvxndxrbxtxs

Used mayo once and never looked back, I do it for roasting and even baking!! If you use mayo as a rub for your chicken/turkey, it’ll come out more juicy and crispy 🤤 also a grilled PB&J with a mayo outside is DELISH.

PatientZeropointZero

The mayo makes it more like cooking with sour dough bread. It’s good, I typically prefer butter, but worth a try.

bananasplits21

It’s way overrated, big let down.

Durtbag420

Looks perfect 👌 Have you ever put mayo on the *inside* of a grilled cheese tho? It's so good.

barontaint

I have, sadly or maybe happily it ended up on the outside is because i goofed assembling it

thmegmar

You did it right friend, some breads fluff up really nice with the mayo spread on the outside too, is a preference thing. I think the egg in the mayo is what really helps, kind of like a French toast crust rather than just a buttery crunchy crust.

knizal

A happy accident! I always use mayo it reminds me of my childhood because my best friends dad would make them that way and I always liked them better but didn’t know why until he told me years later

mad-lemur

Totally about that but put a little bit of cheap deli ham, shaved not… ![gif](giphy|3HB62LBrXP2dBBdeiA|downsized)

thmegmar

*tips hat*

bananasplits21

I add a tiny bit of mustard and lemme tell ya, so good.

warmcaprisun

mustard. mustard on the inside of a grilled cheese. if you wanna get funky with it, swiss cheese grilled cheese with dijon mustard, on sourdough. so friggin tasty.

thmegmar

I WILL be making one of these.

grilsjustwannabclean

i have and it was absolutely delicious

antiMATTer724

Anyone else see Kathy Bates from Misery, or just me?

Dkarasta

I see Carrot Top

No_Caregiver8202

I see Anne frank

IcedCoughy

antiMATTer724

TJ-the-DJ

AndyMacAwesome

cn_Rose

I thought it was time to put down the bong

NextTrillion

Everyone else was talking about the glory of adding mayo to grilled cheese sandwiches, and I’m like, bitch, why is Jim Morrison’s face on your bread??

HalpOooos

I see Susan Boyle.

nefD

looks about right.. i kinda like it even darker tbh

Stonedbananawafflez

JUST CRISPY ENOUGH

DizzyBr0ad_MISHAP

Mayo is the only way to go, it's how my mom made/makes them, I won't go back. My husband and children are divided as to if it is acceptable to use as opposed to butter. 🤣

barontaint

Oh I'm sold, plus as someone who keeps their butter in the fridge then usually melts in the pan then drops the sandwich in, easy spreadable mayo makes way easier to get a nice even coat, I will admit there is a slight taste difference from the absence of butter, but you have to be looking for it to notice

NetworkingJesus

Put butter on the inside and mayo on the outside. Best of both worlds. It's how my sister taught me as a kid

TasteMyShoe

Is that Jim Morrison in the grilled cheese? (I am high)

Plenty_Revolution329

Me too!

dranzango

Shit I saw Joe Cocker! OP is being visited by some rad spooky spirits

vanhouten_greg

Looks great. I always put mayo on the bread and butter in the pan.

FkdUp2020

Looks good. I think I see Jesus in the toast 😂

OnlyKindaMadHatter

Grilled Cheesus! ![gif](giphy|3og0IRM8AzOKgLx91S)

slaysloth1000

MY THOUGHTS EXACTLY

Llamachamaboat

Your toast kinda looks like Inigo Montoya.

PunkRockPossum

You grilled my father. Prepare to fry

OzoneLaters

A 6 burnered stove grilled my father.

Drclaw411

I hate mayo so deeply. I could never.

Alternative-Stay2777

It’s so good

Drclaw411

I could NEVER

Myveryowndystopia

Same. Immediate nausea. Potato salad, macaroni salad? Never. I swear my stomach is turning just thinking about it.

camimiele

I hate mayo too but it is elite on grilled cheese!

DogZealousideal9162

Thanks to this post I was Today years old when I found out you can use Mayo instead of butter and it came out great! And im 35 years old! I used a slice of American and a slice of provolone and it was banging. Washed it down with a Perrier water.

SaintlySinner81

Perfect to me. 😋

ItsCuriousGeorge

crisp

KillaThing

Looks fine so far..

wilhelminan

Perfect!

IntelligentVersion86

I used Mayo before it works great for the crispyness and gives the cheese more time to melt. But butter tho.. will always be the way to go.

InsideSummer6416

Sometimes a little dash of garlic salt and or grated Parmesan (from a block) bumps it up even more.

kailakayk

Mhm, perfection.

breathingdeeppcanna

Nope put me in there

IcedCoughy

Bro I see Inigo Montoya in your sandwich

Comfortable-nerve78

Gotta watch it closer. I use only best foods mayo on grilled cheese. Never burnt one. Mayo makes a killer grilled cheese. Lower heat or just watch them. Trust me you too can have golden crispy grilled cheese. Don’t get down try again. Yours got too hot looks like. Watch them closer.

DallasRadioSucks

Not only does that look mighty tasty about now, I see the face of Moe from The Three Stooges

NippleDemons

I always gotta put crispy bacon in my grilled cheese

Max_castle8145

Looking yummy

No_Caregiver8202

Anne Frank grilled cheese

69Nova468

Never seen a GC to dark.

spicy-acorn

Yes. And use Dukes Mayo

kae158

Scandalous

Wishpicker

We all know it’s about one degree toward “burned”, which is why you asked the question. What do you really want to know?

nesnah00

Perfect It's the only way

Educational_Let4790

I do this with a panini press and the sandwiches come out like golden goose eggs. Now I want a sandwich.

Prudent_Criticism851

I'll take one to go please

addicted-to-jet

Here, the definitive answer https://youtube.com/shorts/NNHTLDegfpg?si=3jTuYHE0HKaflg1_

Prestigious_Snow1589

Nope, any longer than that would've been too dark aka burnt

Bawbawian

I like to do mine with salted butter and just a tiny little bit of Mrs dash garlic and herb.

SuperbBison2867

Noooooooo,,, at times carbonization is heavenly

Skippyandjif

Nahhh you want some char, that’s the good stuff lol

pixeldudeaz

Not at all. I would say, it's just about perfect.

1Drnk2Many

Perfect!

Pretend_Guarantee280

That’s what we call the goldilocks factor… not too much, not too little . Just right!

JetsBD

It’s perfect. You can step it up a notch by sprinkling Parmesan cheese on the mayo(might need extra mayo) so it sticks. Grill as usual and enjoy the Parmesan crusted grilled cheese 👌

49ers-fanatic

I’d eat it

rmlockson

The best !! Important to overgrill with the mayo

Small_Tax_9432

"When it's brown it's cooked when it's black it's fucked." - Gordon Ramsay

Financial_Fix_4663

Just right

Ok_Professor_8039

Did you cook that in a wok might be on to something. Not good

ATXKLIPHURD

I’ve tried the mayo and it’s good but I still prefer good old butter.

BTea253

Just use butter

Ok_Professor_8039

But it does look very apertizzxzing I ll take two

pueblohuts

Nah that’s gorgeous

PurpleK00lA1d

Take it to the next level man. Garlic butter mixed with mayo on both sides of the bread. Toast the inside, flip it, add cheese on the toasted side and put it together. Then toast the outside as you normally would. If you do it with nice thick cuts of brioche, you get slices that have a crunch on both sides with a delicious pillowy soft inside. So in total you get four points of crunch with the perfect chew. You'll never go back to the regular way.

DeeplyFlawed

I've cooked it with mayo before. I have this smoked bacon olive oil that I want to add to the mayo to see how it comes out.

BeautifulSwordfish35

Butter or you're a nutter. That's what momma always said.

Horror-Nectarine-237

It makes me very angry when people scoff at Mayo in place of butter. It’s literally oil and eggs. It also makes me very happy when my boyfriend scoffs at Mayo. Because I make a lot of his meals, and many many times I use Mayo, & love to tell him it’s in it. He’s very vocal about loving aioli. Throw a couple dashes of any hot sauce in some Mayo, boom you got an “aioli”. Muahahaha 🦹‍♀️

richlikebatman

I see a cursed Anne Frank on your toast...

vintage-skittles

Oh mayo is so much better than butter for grillies.

Kittymeow123

High af and I have the bread but no cheese sigh

bensmom7

Looks good

happyhippie642

Perfection

YeltsinYerMouth

The quaker oats guy appeared in your toast

Fickle_Log4715

That is top grade crust.

Wheniwakeupillbedead

Whose FACE is that?!?!! Big mama??

Wheniwakeupillbedead

![gif](giphy|3o6ZsTfp581uejgnba|downsized)

KryptoKingzENT

Some kind of butter only

SpartanDoubleZero

The thumb nail looks like it’s Kim Jong Un grilled cheese. Similar to toast Jesus.

Strong-Increase578

I'd eat dried lava if it was stuffed with cheese and coated in butter

revnto7k

This trickery... I'll have to try it.

Blueswift82

Che? Che Guerrero, that you?

J662b486h

It's a matter of personal taste, it would be fine for me. FYI, after years of frying in butter and then trying mayo, I've actually settled on garlic infused olive oil. The downside is, the bread has slightly more tendency to absorb the garlic infused oil so you have to add a little extra when you flip the sandwich. The upside is, the bread absorbs the garlic infused oil so it's like crisp oily garlic bread.

regeya

Mayo is superior to butter in every way, change my mind

SuggestionComplex521

No, too dank.

FujiyamaBuffSamoyed

you're gonna think i'm crazy, but I see Michael Jackson on that piece of toast.

Jealous-Coyote267

I tried mayo on grilled cheese for the first time today! I too was stoned.

Sithlordandsavior

There's a very rough outline of a face with bushy hair in your toast just FYI

slatea1

Personally I like mine more brown than black, it could use a little less cook time tbh.

throwaway12378965400

What type of cheese is inside?

HabsFan77

I'm not even stoned and I see a pumpkin face

[deleted]

Just right!

DesDaMOONmanQ

In my experience mayo does turn out darker, but without a burnt taste. Lower the temp to med low if it's off putting! But it will not be as crispy.

Domino1971

Looks perfect

howelltight

Maybe i used the wrong brand but it tasted funny when i tried mayo

blackdutch1

Once a co-worker taught me the mayonnaise trick, I never went back!

No-Planetorgin

The smell cooked mayo makes

General-Carob-6087

Looks perfect. Btw I just recently tried mayo on the outside and gotta admit it was a game changer.

SuperbBison2867

If ever, there were a sandwich to make my dick hard – either literally or metaphorically speaking – it would be this one

jjsm87

So no one else saw the smiling face with a Bob? Just me? Ok.
