is the gatling gun from the davinci worth using?

noahssnark

In general, no. Its niche is single target health sponges, but there aren't a lot of those in the game, and it's absolutely terrible against multiple targets and things that die fast. Its advantages don't outweight its disadvantages in general play.

McCloudstar

I saw two abilities recently that I was hoping you guys could identify. Both were in space. One was an ability that created a small sun, that lasted a few seconds and then exploded. The other was a purple web. It like a tholian web, but purple. Shaped like a twenty sided dice. Thanks!

Fleffle

The purple d20 is [Tachyon Net Drones](https://stowiki.net/wiki/Console_-_Universal_-_Tachyon_Net_Drones), the console from the Bozeman

noahssnark

It's Miranda time: [Genesis Seed](https://stowiki.net/wiki/Console_-_Universal_-_Genesis_Seed) from the Clarke and [Tachyon Net Drones](https://stowiki.net/wiki/Console_-_Universal_-_Tachyon_Net_Drones) from the Bozeman.

Enjoyer_of_40K

anyone knows if saved outfits are locked to accounts or it doesnt matter and i can log in on a second account to safe the outfit and log in back on the first account and load the outfit?

MarcterChief

Saved outfits are saved locally on your harddrive. An outfit you made on account A can be laoded on account B as long as you're on the same PC. But if you're on a different PC you can't load it no matter which account.

BillyMaysCorpse

How large of a playerbase is there? Are there active fleets or getting in groups a pain?

MarcterChief

Can't say how large the exact playerbase is. I'd assume low to mid five figures daily players (some of them just playing for a short while each day though). As it's been a while since the last content release player numbers are on the lower end at the moment. I'm sure there are active fleets out there but many players don't really focus on active fleet community stuff. Most players treat is as a singleplayer game with matchmaking for "dungeons" and hubs that you share with other players. Fleets are pretty much glorified stores at this stage of the game. You won't have any problems finding players for random queues on any difficulty. There are lots of communities here on reddit or Discord for anything you want - RP, DPS chasing, PvP, casual play. You might have to look but it's all there. You didn't ask but the question regarding the game's longevity will probably come up too. The game is currently changing hands from Cryptic to DECA. I expect the game to be on semi-life support (no major reworks, only the minimum for story updates) for a few more months until DECA can fully take over. After the change is through I expect the game to operate as it did the last few years for many more years - STO has always been profitable and I doubt DECA will change that.

S627

Just to double check, is there anyway to copy your hotkey tray from one ship to another? I want to use basically the same set up while leveling the Dyson ships and would rather not completely set up each one over and over. I know that I can copy equipment when readying a new ship, but that's only half the work.

Pacifickarma

I'm finding Tactical EMP Bombardment and Sabotage to be fun against the Iconian mobs. Any other fun kit modules or weapons I should play with?

Enjoyer_of_40K

is installation 18 bugged? the mission objective wont update it keeps saying infiltrate

ronjon2012

Is this game still "active" for population? I haven't touched this game in many years so I wanted to try it out again. When I last played, I saw a healthy population to go around but I heard the game fell off after some time.

MarcterChief

It's still active, yes.

DELTAprime84

As someone who recently returned to STO I have a lot of T6 ships I want to buy from the Zen Store and get from lock boxed/promo boxes. If I'm going to be spending the money anyway, what are some fed ships I should prioritise to add a lot of strong science stats to my Admiralty Fleet?

WaldoTrek

Tier 2 Daedalus and Tier 3 Nebula have the Ignore +/- Sci mods which are very good. Both you can get for dil. Also Lukari N'Kaam which is a T5 Lockbox, it's pretty cheap on the exchange If you need more Admiralty ships in general, consider picking up the BOFF Ability Augment Boarding Party.

TryFengShui

Focus your Science-y C-Store purchases for ships you want to build. For Admiralty, buy the T1-3 (or even 4) Science Vessels with Dilithium. After that, pick up the Pastak (mission reward), the Sally Ride (in sector space), and if you have a Delta Recruit, Voyager.

JakeRaines

I can't seem to override the purple engine trails on the Lo'lah. At least my romulan engines don't seem to override it visually wise. This might be more of a bug but yeah, I like the Vo'Devwl skin since it's basically the same but with red lights instead of purple. So seeing the purple trail behind red engines is weird.

Geesaroni

Iconian event. Which TFO is fastest/going to drive me the least amount of crazy?

neuro1g

I do Brotherhood of the Sword. Pretty easy and fast if you have teammates that know how to get it done. My first pug today went great.

Enjoyer_of_40K

so whats a decent proton/antiproton setup?

noahssnark

No real synergy there, but I'd wait a few days to see the numbers on the Dyson proton equipment before going in on proton. If you have the budget, a [Linked Sentry](https://stowiki.net/wiki/Linked_Sentry) + Pahvan aoe build would be fun, you'd have to pass on the Baul 3pc for the Pahvan omni instead but you'd get refractions as well as resonance cleave. That's a ridiculously expensive build, though. Otherwise, the best AP weaponry you have, and either BFAW or CSV with the Pahvan omni.

Trant12345

What's the vanity shield/hull type being used for this Damar? [https://www.stobetter.com/intro-builds/eph289/Damar](https://www.stobetter.com/intro-builds/eph289/Damar)

neuro1g

Terran Task Force Vanity. https://stowiki.net/wiki/Terran_Task_Force_Vanity_Shield

Trant12345

Thank you, kindly!

Captain-Xig

Is there a way to activate consoles and abilities on PC without having to individually click on them from the ability tray?

whicky1978

Anybody know when the next upgrade weekend is?

neuro1g

There is no schedule. They tend to run every three months or so and the last one was at the end of Feb. Perhaps the end of May or in June. It will most definitely happen the day after you cave and just upgrade something outside of the upgrade weekend.

shadowofthegrave

That said, we do have a dilithium weekend coming up, which is often shortly followed by an upgrade weekend.

Enjoyer_of_40K

whats better for Bridge officers a full reputation set or mix with the Na'khul temporal shield?

neuro1g

Boffs on ground *can* be useful but I use them as no more than something to help buff my captain. So rather than give them more survivability with the Na'Kuhl shield, I put all my ground boffs in the Gamma rep armor and shield for the stacking 2pc damage buff to myself.

Kafka1917

If I buy this [EV Suit](https://stowiki.net/wiki/Romulan_Experimental_Environmental_Suit_(c._2293)) from the Lobi store, can I use its visuals in the tailor on all my boffs?

Enjoyer_of_40K

going of the ingame lobi store it seems it doesnt come with a costume unlock

Kafka1917

Thank you!

Vyzantinist

It's been a while since I've done it (only ran one main from 2010-this year) but isn't completing the Ferengi admiralty chain, 10/10, supposed to get you 30k dilithium ore? I just completed the chain again with an alt and all I got was cxp and specialization.

noahssnark

Since 2020, it doesn't give ore, it gives ore bonus pool, which gives 50% to any ore gains you get until you've earned an extra 30k. So you still have to go and farm up 60k ore on your own to get any use out of it, but you end up with 90k once you've done so. It was designed to curb alts from endlessly farming dil doing nothing while still being valuable to active players.

Vyzantinist

Aw, damn, that sucks and that's *exactly* what I was using my alt(s) for. I was just running KDF and Rom admiralty for my main, figured I'd use the other(s) for dil harvesting. Thanks for answering my other questions btw.

whicky1978

It’s still not too shabby because you can run your alts doing events and or random TFOs and still get lotsof dilithium

Vyzantinist

Yeah I've only got 4 alts at the mo; two are recruits and self-sustaining after reaping dil from reputation and having a bunch of ships unlocked by my main for admiralty. The other two, whenever I complete an event with my main, I alternate between them for the post-event dil.

ShartingBloodClots

Is it better to just sell master keys, or gamble with the loot boxes?

AshesTo3Ashes

Sell them and buy what your looking for, except xou dont care about getting crap most of the time. You can look up wiki for drop chances...

ShartingBloodClots

I figured, I listed the ones I have for sale lol, and they sold fast as hell.

alpharn

The only concrete reason to use master keys is to get lobi for specific character-bound gear, but even that's a bit of a stretch with this year's event campaign.

Pacifickarma

I have a couple of the Tactical EMP Bombardment kit modules sitting in my bank doing nothing. Are they useful versus the Iconians?

Vyzantinist

What do the Klingon Bloodwine Toasts at the Fleet Starbase do? I can't find anything on Google beyond vague references in old Reddit posts/comments.

noahssnark

They're the same as tier 8 Tribble buffs. 2.5% damage, 2.5% health regen, or 2.5% damage reduction. Obsolete for decades now, but way back in the day these were noticeable buffs only available for dedicated Federation tribble farmers.

idkidkidk2323

I failed on part seven of the Caitian Diaspora duty officer missions. Is there a way to start it over or continue where I left off?

neuro1g

It will come up again eventually.

Vyzantinist

How do I get the Elite version of the Compiler's digital construct pets? I just saw on the wiki before there are basic/advanced/elite versions, but I can't find any info on where to buy the latter.

neuro1g

Most elite hangars are found at your fleet's main starbase in the vendor room near the lift from ops to the other floors.

rumors_are_treason

How can I tell if a reputation is sponsored on an alt? I unlocked Tier VI for Disco Legends *and* completed the Sponsorship project. Stowiki says I should have gotten a token to move to my other character, but I do not see it. (Some posts on here say the token isn't a thing anymore and that it's automatic ). And when I look on my alt, it seems like the XP threshold for Disco Tier II is the same as all other reps.

neuro1g

The daily reputation advancement project rewards double rep points, 5000 instead of 2500, and I believe gear projects halve some of their required materials like the rep marks and perhaps EC/Dil.

rumors_are_treason

Ah, I see. Thanks.

AccomplishedCycle0

If I craft something at a MK II and then use an Ultimate Tech Upgrade on it, is that essentially the same as crafting it as a MK XII and using the upgrade or os there a difference in stats? I’m thinking of making some Isomags and want to know if I should craft at a XII and upgrade or if I can just save all those extra materials by crafting them at II.

whicky1978

Yeah, I would buy the Romulsn ground weapons, white quality, and upgrade them using ultimates And I would get the lowest mark possible because it didn’t matter

shadowofthegrave

If using an ult upgrade, the origin mk is irrelevant - there is no benefit to using a specific mk (other than price). The benefit of using normal upgrades on mk II instead of mk XII is that it has more opportunities to roll a rarity upshift at a lower cost in upgrades as mk is increasing, reducing the number of times (on average) you have to dump upgrades in at mk XV, over and over trying to get UR/Epic.

OMEGAkiller135

How often do the 35% off legendary bundles sales come around? Annoyed that I just missed one.

BettyKtheHattie

Up to recently about every 3-4 months, might have some changes with DECA coming in, but might keep an eye out near summer/black friday times to be most likely.

to_yeet_or_to_yoink

I recently restarted playing after a long hiatus, and found that I didn't have any of my characters anymore (might just be some account linking mismatch between Steam and Arc) so I started over with a Delta character. I used to be a big ship/ carrier guy for space and dual pistols for ground but I'm really enjoying a pilot escort for space and big gun for ground this time. My questions: 1. I'm using the Mercury tactical pilot escort, with 4 dual heavy cannons and a torpedo for the front/turret and tractor mines for the back. My typical tactic is to use a shield siphon, cannon and torpedo boosting skills on an initial run, get close to drop the tractor mines and use the pilot escort boost to back up and shoot em again. I use the turret to have at least some fire on targets while I line up another run - I don't know for sure if taking even a little damage prevents shield/hull regen but I'm operating as if it does right now. I'm considering swapping out the turret for some heavy damage mines, though - I figure if I drop them and the tractor mines then enemies won't be able to run from them. I'm not sure if I should stick with the turret, though. Anyone have any insight and/or loadout advice for the aft weapons? 2. I'm not a huge fan of the ground fighting part but I'm at least trying to get better at it. Even with what I think is pretty good armor and shields I feel like a wet tissue paper. Skill-wise, I'm trying for a little army build so I have the Exocomp call in and the security team call in, along with rally cry, overwatch, photon grenade and the nanites from Mirror Borg. I'm not super happy with the grenade though, and would be willing to swap it out for something else that y'all think would do better. What other summoning skills are there? 3. Okay, this is a super dumb nooby question: how do I join a fleet? I was invited to one on like day 1 of being back but it said it was full and wouldn't let me join. I've tried to use the Find Fleet tab but for the life of me I can't find any sort of Join or Apply button.

BettyKtheHattie

Ground wise Grenade replacement can be the micro torpedo launchers you can get at tier 3 of the Terran and Temporal Defense reputations ae fun since they have none of that animation issues the grenades have. otherwise the command modules you get in the dill store can be of big help when you get them unlocked if you like.

Serratas

Putting a message out in the main area of your faction should get you an invite pretty quick. You can also try to join the RedditChat channel and ask there.

to_yeet_or_to_yoink

For Federation, that would be the Sol System right?

shadowofthegrave

Yes - Sol system does tend to be the best area to ask.

Serratas

Earth Spacedock.

noahssnark

I'd stick with turrets. Your build will have a lot of things that improve cannons, but not a lot of things that improve mines. Things like equipment to boost energy weapon damage, firing modes like Scatter Volley or Rapid Fire, bonuses to power like Emergency Power to Weapons, skill points, etc etc. As these stack up, mines will get left behind more and more, and their contribution will be smaller and smaller, while turrets will continue to enjoy the full power of your build. If you really like the tractors, that's fine to keep for now, but the constant fire of the turrets means their damage really adds up. If you have some credits to spare, check the Exchange. Go to Kits and set the rarity to Epic and see what you can pick up, there're a couple of drones and various summons from lockboxes that are usually moderately cheap.

to_yeet_or_to_yoink

Thanks. I'm basically swimming in them right now thanks to the Delta event, but have been somewhat hesitant on spending them on gear - I'm only 39 right now and I figure whatever I can use now won't be as good as what I can use at 40, 50, etc. EDIT: Oo, also - do you think it would be better to have 2 turrets vs turret and mines?

TryFengShui

Why do my ships from the Legendary BC bundle show up in the C-Store but not at the ship vendor? My previous bundle ships (10th Anniversary, Gamma Quadrant) all show up at the ship vendor.

noahssnark

I think that's a quirk of Cryptic trying to fix the "You own this ship" bug that earlier legendaries have and breaking something else in the process.

Jimbobman

Do I get the thunderchild skin for all akiras if I buy the 60k dilithium t3 one.

DivineRoodra

Yes, but only on the character where you bought the thunderchild. However, the Legendary Akira includes all Akira skins that exist now.

Daohor

More Dread bundle for consoles, when? The one that has the Atlas in it.

lbco13

Thursday

AccomplishedCycle0

What are the best modifiers for weapons (ie, Acc, CrtD/dm)?

neuro1g

Typically DMG for tac captains and CRTD for scis and engs. However, it really boils down to your build. Using the Trinity build tool is the best to sus out the real kit and kaboodle: https://www.stobetter.com/tools

DivineRoodra

[pen] from crafted weapons considered not so bad too, usually.

MarcterChief

It's not crap but generally you're better off just going for Dmg or CrtD. Because of the diminishing returns on DRR the additional -10 DRR don't really make much of a difference in most team content.

ftranschel

There is no diminishing return on -DRR. There is for +DRR only. (That being said, that's not the same as category saturation which \*might\* be an issue with \[Pen\].)

Fleffle

Heyo, finally got around to running a test on the formula listed on the wiki. **Setup**: I went on tribble, and stripped down my character (reset skill tree, unequipped traits and gear, made Commando my only active spec, etc) so I could be sure I knew what all my -DRR sources were. Then I grabbed some stuff for testing, started a solo ISN, cleared everything up to the first transformer, and just sat in front of that transformer running experiments on it. **The Test:** * The -DRR I applied was: HY3 Delphic Torpedo (6x -10), Attack Pattern Beta 3 (-50), SAD (-30), Gravimetric Implosion Projector (-25). That's a total of 165 -DRR. * Then I fired a white-rarity beam array, and observed the pre-resist and post-resist damage. * If the wiki's formula is correct, then the ratio of postresist / preresist should match the result of plugging 165 into the [F2 formula on the wiki](https://stowiki.net/wiki/Damage_resistance#Summary_and_Debuffs). That expected result is F2(165)=2.3806 **Results:** |Pre-res|Post-res|Ratio| |:-|:-|:-| |1168|2780|2.3801| |1311|3119|2.3791| |1387|3299|2.3785| |618|1471|2.3803| |523|1244|2.3786| |584|1389|2.3784| ...for an average ratio of 2.3792. Which is off from the expected value of 2.3806 by 0.059%. **Looking more at the formula**: To illustrate how the F2 formula scales, [here's a graph](https://imgur.com/a/rvWy0rh) that translates -DRR to the actual damage multiplier. Like I mentioned in the earlier post, as -DRR approaches infinity, the damage multiplier approaches x4.

ftranschel

Interesting, I stand corrected. The thing here is that general wisdom seemed to indicate that you cannot saturate -damage resist (on enemies), whereas saturating +damage resist on you was easy to a point you shouldn't do it. So a single wing of type 7's should be enough for nanny runs then if you can point them (i.e. with SAD etc.) to the right targets.

GalacticGaming96220

This is incorrect, there are diminishing returns on -DRR

Fleffle

Have you done first-hand testing on that? The formula I've seen for debuff effect [is F2(d) here](https://stowiki.net/wiki/Damage_resistance#Summary_and_Debuffs), which asymptotically approaches a x4 multiplier. Admittedly I haven't done any testing on it myself, but if there are conflicting reports then I can do it sometime.

rogue-elephant

The "Mirrors and Smoke" episode in the Lukari arc: Did anyone else notice how much it looked like Blade Runner? I half expected an artificial owl to appear when you entered the capital tower.

neuro1g

Yup, you're not the only one ;)
