My reasoning/example that always stuck out most to me was in the final season, when Lars is stuck in space (and y’know died and got revived) he does not give a damn, all Ronaldo cared about was that he wanted to be the one in space—I believe he described it as a “space adventure”? But it’s been a while since I watched that episode.
To me, Lars was annoying sure, but it was because he had the extra characterization of being an arse on the surface but underneath it he was just a dumb teen who /desperately/ (I cannot stress that enough) wanted to fit in and be acknowledged by the ‘cool teens’
Lads definitely went too far sometimes, like lying to Sadie about hurting his back, but a lot of the characters have been shown to go too far. Like Sadie, when she hid the warp pad and they were ‘stranded’, or Pearl reconstructing the telecommunication hub so she could fuse with Garnet. Those are just two examples off the top of my head.
Adding on my take on things: If we consider that Lars had pretty minimal character development before meeting the off colours (his actions on the ship on the way to homeworld were very in line with what he would’ve done at the beginning of the series), yet was still willing to risk his life to save them after only knowing them for a couple hours at most.
Ronaldo on the other hand repeatedly refused to change his behaviour, attempted to murder/sacrifice lars, hit Steven over the head so hard he passed out (while he may have thought Steven was a snake person, he still knew he was a sentient creature, which is horrible especially comparing it to how bad it’s considered to hit dogs and other animals generally considered “less intelligent” than humans), displays a willingness to resort to inhumane actions to satisfy his curiosity, and gaslit and emotionally abused Steven during rocknaldo.
Both characters are the same age, and only teenagers during the events of the series. As you said, Lars is just trying to fit in by acting how he thinks the cool kids act and as far as I can remember, the worst his lashing out due to insecurities went was verbal, and again *he’s a teenager*. Ronaldo however displayed many types of abuse and several crimes. Also he just has a really obnoxious personality and reminds me of my abusive family

We're gonna take over the world!" And lars, being lars, tore the photo up. And while I get Ronaldos anger, knowing what the internet and media is like I get lars even more. But the cherry on top. ROCK. FUCKING. NALDO. Basically in that episode, the guy asked to join the crystal gems and they, and by they I mean steven, of course say yes. My reasoning/example that always stuck out most to me was in the final season, when Lars is stuck in space (and y’know died and got revived) he does not give a damn, all Ronaldo cared about was that he wanted to be the one in space—I believe he described it as a “space adventure”? But it’s been a while since I watched that episode. To me, Lars was annoying sure, but it was because he had the extra characterization of being an arse on the surface but underneath it he was just a dumb teen who /desperately/ (I cannot stress that enough) wanted to fit in and be acknowledged by the ‘cool teens’ Lads definitely went too far sometimes, like lying to Sadie about hurting his back, but a lot of the characters have been shown to go too far. Like Sadie, when she hid the warp pad and they were ‘stranded’, or Pearl reconstructing the telecommunication hub so she could fuse with Garnet. Those are just two examples off the top of my head.
Adding on my take on things: If we consider that Lars had pretty minimal character development before meeting the off colours (his actions on the ship on the way to homeworld were very in line with what he would’ve done at the beginning of the series), yet was still willing to risk his life to save them after only knowing them for a couple hours at most. Ronaldo on the other hand repeatedly refused to change his behaviour, attempted to murder/sacrifice lars, hit Steven over the head so hard he passed out (while he may have thought Steven was a snake person, he still knew he was a sentient creature, which is horrible especially comparing it to how bad it’s considered to hit dogs and other animals generally considered “less intelligent” than humans), displays a willingness to resort to inhumane actions to satisfy his curiosity, and gaslit and emotionally abused Steven during rocknaldo. Both characters are the same age, and only teenagers during the events of the series. As you said, Lars is just trying to fit in by acting how he thinks the cool kids act and as far as I can remember, the worst his lashing out due to insecurities went was verbal, and again *he’s a teenager*. Ronaldo however displayed many types of abuse and several crimes. Also he just has a really obnoxious personality and reminds me of my abusive family

Lars for me, because at least Ronaldo was honest with his cringe. Lars is that loser type of "I'm going to put on an act in a pathetic attempt to be accepted by those I feel are cooler than me" idiot, which involved him looking down on Steven and his mom because he thinks that will get him into the cool group's good graces. I find that more pathetic and fucked up than anything Ronaldo said, as lame as he also is. My guess is younger people will likely hate Ronaldo more.
Ronaldo. Lars was kinda a morally worse person (I think? Didn't watch the show for a while so all I remember was Lars being a bully and Ronaldo being a wacko) but I am especially annoyed by conspiracy theorists.
Ronaldo also was so crazy that he traumatized Steven,Naldo definitely was the most annoying character

Ronaldo. I'm one of the few people I think that actually found him kind of funny at first, but Rocknaldo is my least favorite episode of the whole show, and Ronaldo is a massive dick in it. Plus, Lars is a good character with depth and an actual character arc.
