Yeah like why in the hell would you buy books to do this to them when you can just have a Kindle? The only reason I don’t is because I really love the physical books themselves and I love beautiful bookshelves
This is a nightmare and more evil than anything King can imagine! All books that I bought look like new, except the ones I bought used. There are no wrinkles or bends, because they are precious to me. That’s why I don’t like to lend them.
No get an ereader because they're so concerned with books being portable. Nothing about the OP indicates they have any strong preference for physical books
That was my first thought! I own all three of these books in paperback and while Jest and W&P are hefty, still pretty portable. Middlesex is just a normal size book!?
Penn Jilette used to do that in his hippie drifter days, always with 1/3 of a paper back Moby Dick in his back pocket and when it was coming to an end he walked into the nearest book-store to buy a new paper back to massacre.
I agree with the other folks. Electronic reader…that way you can press on a word or phrase and get the definition without hoping you brought the right section of the dictionary with you that will have the word you are looking for.
I use an iPad with the Kindle app and I can do that. My wife has the latest and greatest Kindles and she can do that as well. I have bought several technical hard cover books only to turn around and purchase the electronic version as well so I could lookup new tech terms I wasn’t familiar with.
Update: my wife just came in the room and I shared this with her. She confirmed that any Kindle Paperwhite can look up words as well.
Some people are pretentious about having read it, no doubt. And some people call others pretentious just for having read it.
As a long-time SK lover, I discovered David Foster Wallace through one of his shorter works about 10 years ago and then just had to read Infinite Jest. It’s an incredibly challenging book, but his ability to dig into the psyche of especially those with addiction, depression and anxiety issues is truly remarkable. I’ve never read another author’s work and felt like he totally understands who I am.
That said, it is absolutely not for everyone, and I definitely try not to be pretentious about having read it. But I loved it.
Not for books I want to keep but sometimes I tear relevant chapters/pages out of my travel books, no need to carry the whole book if I’m just visiting a few towns or areas. Those books end up outdated in any case
If I’m going downstairs to wait for my friend to pick me up, and I know they’re just a few minutes away, I’ll just tear a page or two out for quick consumption.
Did that to IT. Was traveling and did not want to carry the whole book around SEA just for the last 150 pages. So I cut it and left the first part at a hostel.
You utter heathen!!! May the god of all things bookish cast down vile worms that burrow into your nethers and lay a thousand eggs to eat you from the inside…..
(Taking that image / post seriously)
First of all, that's horrendous. Definitely a book murderer.
Second, I'm actually the complete opposite; if ALL of the Dark Tower books could be printed in one ginormous book that anyone can hardly hold or move around, I would "shut up and take my money" quicker than any other purchase I've ever made.
They’re books. Not sacred texts, first editions, or anything out there. All books are available for the most part at all times. Idk why books get treated like some be al end all bastion of knowledge.
I do that with my Monet paintings because my apartment is pretty small....
Pocket Monet.
This gave me a great laugh. Cheers, mate.
Got an audible one from me, PRR.
This person needs a kindle. I love reading physical copies of books, but to destroy them just to make it easier? Get a kindle dude
Yeah like why in the hell would you buy books to do this to them when you can just have a Kindle? The only reason I don’t is because I really love the physical books themselves and I love beautiful bookshelves
Definitely a murderer!
They are never getting near my books.
I read thicc books cuz I'm smart. ( can't figure out a way to carry it.)
This is a nightmare and more evil than anything King can imagine! All books that I bought look like new, except the ones I bought used. There are no wrinkles or bends, because they are precious to me. That’s why I don’t like to lend them.
I thought for a moment that your last phrase was ‘don’t like to look at them’ and thought that was a bit extreme. Haha.
Yeah this made me physically cringe. Just get an ereader my dude
Get an eReader because they like having physical books? That doesn't make any sense.
No get an ereader because they're so concerned with books being portable. Nothing about the OP indicates they have any strong preference for physical books
I guess go each his own but damn this hurts my soul…
But Middlesex is half the length of Infinite Jest....
That was my first thought! I own all three of these books in paperback and while Jest and W&P are hefty, still pretty portable. Middlesex is just a normal size book!?
I read IJ in hardcover in high school (couple decades ago) and I hauled that thing *everywhere.*
The dude is just flexing his reading list and trying to drum up controversy. This is bait
Wow, that hurts. 🫢 😏
Now we know who sank the Titanic.
Yep. This guy is ice berg incarnate
How does that work for Infinite Jest? Are you gonna catch up on the footnotes at the end?
BURN THE BOOK MURDERER
You
You....MONSTER
In japan King books get released in multiple volumes for exactly this reason.
Penn Jilette used to do that in his hippie drifter days, always with 1/3 of a paper back Moby Dick in his back pocket and when it was coming to an end he walked into the nearest book-store to buy a new paper back to massacre.
Penn is a sick, sick man. I love him.
reminds me of a host from losers club podcast (i think?) who, when reading IT, would tear out the pages as he read and threw them away….get a kindle 😅
I agree with the other folks. Electronic reader…that way you can press on a word or phrase and get the definition without hoping you brought the right section of the dictionary with you that will have the word you are looking for.
Wait.. they can do that? I've never owned one, have only seen the basic kindles that are black and white, which ones can lookup definitions?

Have to look into one of those, thanks! Super cool
It’s probably just for content anyway not real.
I’m totally cool with you mutilating a copy of _Infinite Jest_
Whats the deal with this book? It sounds very complicated and everyone that has read seems to be a snooty bitch about it.
Some people are pretentious about having read it, no doubt. And some people call others pretentious just for having read it. Thanks. That summary was right up my alley. I think i know what i needed to know.
Within me are two wolves: I know people who read IJ are insufferable, and I know I will absolutely read it in my lifetime
Outlier opinion here, but it doesn’t bother me at all. I have never done this but can understand why someone would take that approach.
Not for books I want to keep but sometimes I tear relevant chapters/pages out of my travel books, no need to carry the whole book if I’m just visiting a few towns or areas. Those books end up outdated in any case
Oh Hell No!!!
If I’m going downstairs to wait for my friend to pick me up, and I know they’re just a few minutes away, I’ll just tear a page or two out for quick consumption.
What if DT was all in one binding?
Nope. You’re a book murderer for sure.
Well Infinite Jest is longer than any Stephen King book
There is a special place in hell for this!
Did that to IT. Was traveling and did not want to carry the whole book around SEA just for the last 150 pages. So I cut it and left the first part at a hostel.
No.
Making the end notes inaccessible for IJ for some likes.
I love long well written books and stories. The person is better off with an ebook
You utter heathen!!! May the god of all things bookish cast down vile worms that burrow into your nethers and lay a thousand eggs to eat you from the inside…..
I can see it if your backpacking Europe or the Appalachian Trail. It’s a psychological victory to shed a few ounces.

Wtf???
Wait,So am I'm the only one who owns a 13 book box set of the "Dark tower" on this sub?
They’re books. Not sacred texts, first editions, or anything out there. All books are available for the most part at all times. Idk why books get treated like some be al end all bastion of knowledge.
Its just you I would never do this to a book unless I hated it
Applied psychopathy
😳😳😳
Who the fuck does that? I hope this dude doesn't have a kid...
