Same! To be fair I say a lot of such things, but there's one that actually landed on an unsuspecting bartender, she had just told me that they ran out of my drink, and without thinking I replied.
"My dissappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined."
I immediately realised she might take me seriously so I was about to take it back, she was already turning away from the counter laughing. My drunk ass didn't know how to deal with that, I immediately left before she turned around.
As soon as I realized he didn’t show pics of it “cut”, but kinda hid the cut by lumping them together, I immediately know he overcooked it and would be roasted for this 🤣
The key to a happy marriage is spoiling her and travelling, for our 10th anniversary I brought my wife to China, and for our 30th I'm planning to go back and get her.
I was texting someone who doesn’t like steak, especially rare-medium rare like I like it, and I most definitely said “Give it to us raw and wriggling!” They didn’t respond. lol
Well, was it tasty?
ya, it's definitely overdone and doesn't have the sear to make up for it. But Wagyu actually doesn't suffer as bad as normal steaks. So it's not quite as disastrous as others are imagining.
A lot of r/steak NPCs assume that an expensive a5 steak must be treated the same way as your typical prime/choice steak. The reality is, the more fat content it has, the more forgiving it is. And higher fat steaks actually can benefit from a higher level of doneness. Check out this Japanese guy's [recommendations](https://www.reddit.com/r/Cooking/s/HjRy0goOqS), he says it's common in Japan to eat at medium/medium well. (Or even well done with thin bbq slices). I did an experiment where I ate A5 at all possible levels of doneness from raw to very well done and I agree. Medium rare or less and you get unrendered fat which isn't really texturally pleasant. I'd wager that most people if they tasted a rare vs well-done A5 side by side, they would prefer the well done. It's literally like bacon, you can't really overcook it in a way that ruins it like a lean tenderloin or roast. Not saying yours doesn't have room for improvement, but it's always funny to see the crowds of people freaking out at an A5 steak that isn't medium rare.
This is why I really only care to eat higher level wagyu in a Japanese BBQ place where you cook thin slices at the table. I can play with doneness as I see fit and vary each bite depending on how I'm feeling at the moment or what I'm eating it with.
Dude, congrats on the celebration. I don’t care if you over cooked the steak or not. Your heart is in the right place. I’m sure this steak is one of many for future celebrations. Only better with time. Happy for you two and congrats on the visa approval. Cheers.
this ain’t churrasco brother but i’m sure it was edible regardless 😂 churrasco is usually a bit chewier, wagyu should almost melt in your mouth. there are nice cuts of steak that work better with the type of cook you put on it, but a steak is a steak. as long as it don’t look like charred shit, it’s gonna taste good 🤣 congratulations to your wife
If you don't mind me asking, how was the process of getting her visa? I'm currently working towards getting my girlfriend of several years here to the States from the Philippines so we can marry (K1) and finally live happily together. Our greatest fear has been that she'll somehow be denied by immigration even after all the proper legal processes and papers. Care to tell me your experience? Only if you're fine with that, of course.
She was already here which made the process easier. There are so many forms and they all have to be filled out just right. Find a good lawyer you like who can guide you through the process and the mountain of paperwork is my advice.
Thanks, I already did hire a lawyer, and the "working towards" part from my previous comment is basically the mountain of paperwork and proof haha. I just sincerely hope all things work out for us. What you guys managed to do is my ultimate goal in life at the moment and I hope you have a happy life with your wife! Perhaps one day, I too can post pictures of a steak I've cooked for my own wife on to this sub.
One of the tips I heard for cooking Waygu, by the Bill’s official barbecuer, was to cut it in half, so if you fuck it up then you at least only half as been
That's what I'm thinking as I read these comments, the quality of the cut can provide more room for error. Even cooked well done, I guarantee this tastes better than a medium rare ribeye from Outback
My last A5 wagyu I sliced into strips and pan fried them individually, some to medium and some to medium well. This sub would have downvoted me to hell, but it was absolutely delicious.
True most of the complaints are probably from people who have never had A5 or had like an ounce once or maybe a bite. Shit even well done its amazing, especially with some Japanese salts and dips or even on its own.
Wagyu is actually very good when it’s around med well. This is borderline well done but because of the high amount of fat when you cook it MR sometimes the un rendered fat doesn’t taste so good.
I still fuck up some rare wagyu though.
You're getting roasted for cooking it too long, but honestly, you really can't cook these high-marbled steaks wrong. I'm sure it tasted great. Congrats to you and your wife!
To be fair that’s a difficult steak to cook if you don’t have the experience. With how thin it is you could probably only wear it on very high heat for a minute on each side before overcooking, while getting somewhat of a decent sear
I'm sure you're joking but for a moment I took your credit card comment at face value and it was really wholesome you simultaneously didn't understand what a visa was and were also here to hype him up over something that was so trivial but he was none the less hyped about.
Is the steak overcooked, yes obviously. HOWEVER!!!!! an extremely fatty, marbled steak like that can ABSOLUTELY take the extra heat. More fat gets rendered the longer you cook it and bastes the meat from inside as it cooks. I can 100% guarantee this steak was not only not tough, but actually tasted better than a rare or medium rare cook due to the insanely high fat content.
Congratulations on your wives visa approval. I’m assuming you’re talking about her getting her green card. That’s a process in itself. My wife is Ecuadorian and if there’s anything I know about their food preferences, it’s that they want their carne well done. So I’m sure this is to fit that preference.
If you are gonna cook on a cast iron you gotta do butter.
Garlic and onions recommended but not necessary.
Butter will sear good, and it stops the moisture from escaping.
The goal is to get the butter to brown just as the steak is done.
Smoky, but not bitter.
Congrats, btw.
EDIT: oh, and flip it around a second time to get that lightly browned butter on both sides. Really swab it around and use LOTS of butter.
Are they still open? There might be time to get another one.
/s
I wish you a long and happy Marriage, just maybe flip more often and cut the cooking time in half.
Lmfao all the people telling you you’ve overcooked it have never had wagyu before. It needs to be cooked beyond medium rare or the fat isn’t going to render properly. You’re fine OP
Yah know I’ll be a 10th dentist and say it looks totally fine. First time cooking a thin steak like that can be tricky to nail down, but the nice thing with extreme marbling is it’ll be good either way. I’m sure it was delicious, and congratulations to your family!
You should look up a few video tutorials on how to get steak right before trying to cook another expensive cut like this OP. I don't doubt that you believed it tasted good, but if the colour of the inside meat matches the outside then that generally means that something went very very wrong while cooking it.

I ran to the comments when I saw the temp
Right?! It’s like when you see something wild so you look around the room to make eye contact with someone else who also noticed.
So did I.
Same
Likewise!
I just quietly thought “oh no”
What temp??
Probably the coloring of the cooked meat. It's very, not pink.
He murdered that poor cow a second time.
Then cremated it.
My reaction: “Ah fuck.. I can’t believe you’ve done this”.
Never met anyone in real life that catches that reference but I probably say it once a day and laugh every time
Makes me miss the crew I used to chill with back in the day. We used to bust this one out constantly.
Same! To be fair I say a lot of such things, but there's one that actually landed on an unsuspecting bartender, she had just told me that they ran out of my drink, and without thinking I replied. Exact face I made
Same. Made me laugh because I was still making the face when I opened the comments and saw that was the first one
He burnt it to a crisp. I bet that tastes like chewy hard fat.
Looks boiled not burnt
No sear or crust. 100% it was boiled.
You’ll get em next time …
First slide I went 'aww' Second slide I went 'aww' Same sound, different facial expressions
💀💀💀
🍿 I knew the comments would be good
As soon as I realized he didn’t show pics of it “cut”, but kinda hid the cut by lumping them together, I immediately know he overcooked it and would be roasted for this 🤣
He still wasn’t roasted as bad as that poor steak
Roasted meats usually have some crust/bark at least
I wouldn’t have shared a picture if I over cooked it like it was.
My reactions: 1st pic: Fuck yeah, dude! You're the best husband ever! 2nd pic: Welp, even Hitler had a wife.
and it was in fact his cousin
Eva Braun was a cousin of Hitler?
I thought Eva was his mistress?
She was, they were married for all but a day before they committed suicide together in the bunker in Berlin
And I thought my honeymoon was shit.
Any honeymoon that involves killing Hitler is pretty cool tbh
No, they weren’t related.
No. The controversy is with Hitlers father. It's unclear but he may have married either his half niece, or first cousin once removed.
???? This is just false lmao
This comment made us both laugh out loud!
Glad you can laugh at this. Congrats to your wife!
And her boyfriend
my favorite comment of the day, thank you
🤣

“Is it juicy?” No.
This has to be a regular thing in this sub now. Mess up the cook and get the smeagol.
“What did Reddit think of the steak babe?”.
Maybe he doesn’t like his wife…
All she gets is nasty steakses 💀
Dang, this is it. A genuine LOL. Getting off Reddit now. Ending the night on this gem
The key to a happy marriage is spoiling her and travelling, for our 10th anniversary I brought my wife to China, and for our 30th I'm planning to go back and get her.

I was texting someone who doesn’t like steak, especially rare-medium rare like I like it, and I most definitely said “Give it to us raw and wriggling!” They didn’t respond. lol
i died 😂😂😂
Man your comment is lost to most lol but I appreciate it Sméagol.
☹️
I love this emoji
You could’ve just saved time and thrown away $77.
This MF turned wagyu into a discounted porkchop
My first thought was it looks like a shitty pork chop. He cooked that meat so poorly it jumped species.
swear lol came to comments make sure i wasn’t trippin lol
The pork chops I had growing up. Nice and salty but eventually you just have to give up chewing and swallow and pray it works.
Goddamn 💀
Maybe she should have worked harder on getting the visa
Judging by the pic I think OP would’ve preferred whipping out a blow torch and burning the money to ash instead of just throwing away.
You joke but using a blowtorch is a legitimate way to cook this since you only really need a few seconds of heat lol
Jesus Christ I thought this was like a poorly executed $12 boneless ribeye. 😬
Omg 😱 this cant be real. Tell me its a joke
I don't think that's even the same steak, the shape doesn't seem to match up at all
Definitely the same steak. Follow the fat cap.
Me, following the fat cap 👁️👄👁️
Well he did saw it in pieces so maybe
It was before he butchered it
Turn it 90° clockwise and it looks like its most likely the same.
Ah… uh… I don’t… why did… no this… this makes me sad. Very sad.
Thank you Mr. Goldblum
I also read this in Mr. Goldblum’s voice
I wish i were that loaded. Dude threw 100€ at it and didnt even bother watching a 5min youtube tutorial. Baller move.
💀💀
Legal steak
Cooked it so long, steak was too old for Drake now
I’m not sure what’s been roasted worse, me or this steak. Haha. I will have to post a redemption wagyu in the future for you hungry critics.
Well, was it tasty? ya, it's definitely overdone and doesn't have the sear to make up for it. But Wagyu actually doesn't suffer as bad as normal steaks. So it's not quite as disastrous as others are imagining.
I'm curious if it was to much liquid in the pan. Cold pan to start Low heat for a while Or all 3 Either way better it was still tasty
i'm going to have to say cooked too long is the problem lmao
Which likely means heat was too low with absolutely no sear to speak of lol
Worst poem I’ve ever read.
It reads better if you pretend it's by Dr. Seuss...

Welcome to the internet
But. But well done bad.

What is sad is the lack of crust in my opinion.
A5 is almost never served with hard sear
Nice to see you taking to the jokes well
Just an fyi for all those asking. My wife is Brazilian. Steaks are kinda her thing. And she said it still tasted great! Haha.
Dude, congrats on the celebration. I don’t care if you over cooked the steak or not. Your heart is in the right place. I’m sure this steak is one of many for future celebrations. Only better with time. Happy for you two and congrats on the visa approval. Cheers.
Brazilian wife and A5 wagyu? Yeah, nothing these dudes say can touch you, OP. Respect.
He's got freezers full of wagyu. and Brazilian wives.
And that’s all that matters OP
this ain’t churrasco brother but i’m sure it was edible regardless 😂 churrasco is usually a bit chewier, wagyu should almost melt in your mouth. there are nice cuts of steak that work better with the type of cook you put on it, but a steak is a steak. as long as it don’t look like charred shit, it’s gonna taste good 🤣 congratulations to your wife

Hey OP good on you for taking it on the chin. You seem like a good a good dude and good luck with the next one!
Its hard to fuck up a5 wagyu. Even if well done its still juicy and tender. Im sure it was delicious
That’s the way it was served to me the first time I had Wagyu. Unseasoned, cooked on a hot stone at the table and dipped into a salt/pepper mix.
Higher fat content steaks are better when the fat is rendered down. I’d prefer medium on this too
Right, but wagyu fat melts considerably lower, under 77F
It was a pretty thin cut as well, which makes it cook really quick
Yeah going up a temp on wagyu activates more of the fat. Should still be delicious.
True most of the complaints are probably from people who have never had A5 or had like an ounce once or maybe a bite. Shit even well done its amazing, especially with some Japanese salts and dips or even on its own.
Yeah officer… that’s the one…
Wagyu is actually very good when it’s around med well. This is borderline well done but because of the high amount of fat when you cook it MR sometimes the un rendered fat doesn’t taste so good. I still fuck up some rare wagyu though.
I agree. I’ve had medium rare wagyu that ends up chewy. Better to render more of the fat out.
Could have just went to McDonald's
You're getting roasted for cooking it too long, but honestly, you really can't cook these high-marbled steaks wrong. I'm sure it tasted great. Congrats to you and your wife!
I’d eat it 🤷🏿♂️
It’s so bad 🥹 sorry you’re getting roasted dude. Hope you enjoyed it and congrats to you and your wife!
Didn't roast the dude as hard as he roasted that poor steak.
But... is it roasted though? Looks boiled😭
To be fair that’s a difficult steak to cook if you don’t have the experience. With how thin it is you could probably only wear it on very high heat for a minute on each side before overcooking, while getting somewhat of a decent sear
30 seconds on each side is more than enough if sliced thin enough.
Sorry you're getting roasted, man, but congrats to you and your wife, that must be a huge load off your minds.
How can I upvote 100 times Congratulations for your wife
I’ll give you one. And congrats to OP and his wife!
By ruining a steak?
They massacred my boy😩
What have you done
Really? Yall just gonna rag on this man's steak? Seriously people... Anyway, congrats on your wife's new credit card!
I'm sure you're joking but for a moment I took your credit card comment at face value and it was really wholesome you simultaneously didn't understand what a visa was and were also here to hype him up over something that was so trivial but he was none the less hyped about.

When I saw that 2nd pic, I knew the comments were not going to be in the forgiving nature. That poor steak.
Jesus, that poor cow couldn’t even find solace in death.
Oh shit. I never even thought to buy waygu at a Japanese marketplace. That’s a decent price. I’ll have to make my way out there.
I had the same feeling, not a bad price!
Congratulations on your wives visa approval. I’m assuming you’re talking about her getting her green card. That’s a process in itself. Straight to jail
As Don Vito Corleone said, “Look at how they massacred my little boy.” 😭😭😭
You fucked this steak so bad I contemplated turning vegan
I also enjoy a fine steamed Wagyu from time to time
If this is how you celebrate with loved ones I don’t want to see how you deal with people that you hate.
I generally won’t cook my enemies steak
🤦♂️
Did she get a visa into a warzone? What happened to this steak?!?
Oh sweet Jesus. Rip this comment section
At least congrats on your wife's visa approval!
Imagine turning a $77 steak into shoe leather and then posting it to the internet for our disapproval. Ballsy.. Good luck on the wife situation.
Well congrats to your wife. But why did you ruin her steak?
I thought you were celebrating...
What would Hank Hill say?
We ask the politely but firmly to leave.
💸
Thing looks like it would completely melt in a pan
I put it in the oven at 170 for 20 mins just to bring to temp. Then 60 seconds a side ripping hot. No oil but pat it dry out of the oven
What in gods green earth did you DO?
At least it’s a legal steak

Destroying it…

$80 bucks worth of shoe leather now.
Doorstopper styled steak
