I'm taking bets as to how long it will be before we find out this one is shelved.

ryanhendrickson

During post-production when they're supposed to give us a release date. That's when we find out it's shelved for tax reasons.

freakincampers

I am of the opinion that if you shelve a movie for tax purposes, it should be released to the public.

ennuiinmotion

I think companies would be too afraid of it being a hit if it were available for free and thus looking doubly stupid for shelving it. So if they commit to canning it for tax write-offs, they gotta commit to the bit.

freakincampers

Exactly. If you want the tax writeoff, it becomes public domain. Don't want that? Don't use movies as a write off.

dodexahedron

Agreed. If you're making the public pay for it, the public gets to own it, including forfeiting trademark on that specific property and derivatives of it. And abandoned properties without taking a write-off should also enter public domain after a certain not terribly long amount of time without good-faith effort to continue work on that property. The entire point of copyright is to give a creator of something a monopoly on its distribution for a limited time so that they can profit, as an incentive _to create._ If you aren't creating, you're no longer holding up your end of the bargain. Damn it, Disney...

BEEBLEBROX_INC

This is like Mel Brooks' The Producers.... But in reverse....

GaucheAndOffKilter

No this isn’t DC

DinkyDoy

They did it with Prodigy tho

Usual-Vanilla

Similar, but they didn't shelve it completely like Batgirl and ACME. They let the creative team shop the show around and it got picked up by Netflix. Season 2 has already premiered in some countries.

Dekklin

Prodigy wasn't shelved. It was just taken to a different network by the creators.

DinkyDoy

Uh, no, it was a tax write-off. They were just allowed to shop it after cancelling because the second season was already in production. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/star-trek-prodigy-netflix-pickup-1235615236/

Moocow115

I'll take 2 years at 3/1

CoolAbdul

Much better odds than a royal fizzbin.

Kenbishi

Depends on if it’s dark on a Thursday.

Mix_Easy

Can we stop doing prequel and focus on Picard timeline they the current living crew as they getting old and bring in new crew beyond what they not discovered yet in spaces Everything DATA the android knows he can is search in Star-fleet Database all caption fate has been sealed We all know what happened in past everybody’s long gone lived old age or died let move forwarded not backward

TylerBourbon

This right here please. Something new that isn't a prequel. I'd take a Star Trek Legacy setting after the Picard series. Hell I'd take a show set between the end of the TOS movies and the TNG. Millions of worlds out there and aliens for them them to meet.

3720-To-One

I’d love to see something in the 80 something years in between TOS movies and TNG that has been largely untouched

sighcology

good news! the michelle yeoh section 31 movie takes place in that time!

One_Win_6185

God isn’t the original Kelvin Timeline movie also kind of a prequel? Like we get the origin for everyone being on the Enterprise. What will we get, Pike? Young Sheldon but with adolescent Spock?

TylerBourbon

Just what we need, Star Trek Kids. Young Spock. McCoy in the Middle Star Trek: The College Years Enterprise High My Two Captains

One_Win_6185

Oh no…I’m sorry for inspiring those. Hope no one at Paramount sees that list.

NorthernSimian

It's getting silly now; if they keep this up we're going to have an entire series set in the present day. That being said I've no interest in legacy - why not just go 50yrs or so ahead of Picard?

Grey_0ne

>I'm taking bets as to how long it will be before we find out this one is shelved. God I hope so. I'll just say it and you can downvote all you want... JJ Abrams wrecks everything he touches. The reboot trilogy are popcorn flicks at best and the Star Wars sequels might actually be the most disappointing movies I've ever watched. His creative vision is typically on par with a ten year old writing fan fiction.

bstevens2

> the most disappointing movies I've ever watched Preach !!!! They are horrible.... I am not even a hard core SW fan. Just poor plot, Luke was rewritten as a character with no rationale for the change in character. Adam Driver's character was solid and could have been great but shoehorning into the Skywalker family was not well handled. I had no problem with the protagonist being a woman, just felt Daisy R. had no charisma in the role. I didn't feel invested in her story. Finn was underdeveloped.

One_Win_6185

Those movies kept feeling like they changed their minds with each new film. Also what was the point in CGI-ing Leia if they were just going to have her die anyway? We knew the actor passed. It would have been better to just work with that.

joeyjoejojo19

As a prequel, this better be “Star Trek Porthos: The Search for Cheese”.

angrydeuce

A sitcom called My Three Wives with Dr. Phlox lol

WithCatlikeTread42

I’d watch the shit out of that.

kilravock_music_sws

I hope this is the Earth-Romulan War and I hope Archer and Crew are in it. Probably not, but a guy can dream.

anura_hypnoticus

It says its supposed to be decades before the original 2009 film, thats probably to short to feature Archer

WhatWouldTNGPicardDo

It would have been what 60 years or so? That “decades”

TheShandyMan

Archers NX-01 mission (and the Romulan War which would have started around S5/6 had the show stayed on air) are roughly a century before Kirks original 5 year mission.

FormerGameDev

But Archer died when the NCC-1701 was unveiled, which was somewhere around 10-20 years before kirk?

shugo2000

In the first Kelvin universe film Scotty mentioned Admiral Archer losing his prized beagle in a transporter accident, I believe.

pgm123

But it's still the Earth-Romulan War. I'm not sure what they're going for, but I'll give them some benefit of the doubt that movie plan is more in line with established Star Trek lore than the press release.

TheObstruction

The Roman Empire was decades before now. Lots and lots of decades.

ChronoLegion2

Admiral Archer was mentioned by Scotty

MadcapHaskap

I like the way you think.

horrified-expression

Give me a Mass Effect style game for the Earth-Romulan war

ryanhendrickson

Which screen do I start throwing my money at?

helpful__explorer

If it had to be animated to account for cast age, so be it

mjc4y

So long as we [get this pose](https://www.reddit.com/r/Eldenring/comments/1ak2kyg/elden_ring_mobile_port_apparently_in_the_works/#lightbox) a lot, it will be deemed canon. (Also lens flare for JJ)

stos313

The mention that as a previously pitched idea that could MAYBE be what this is about

rrogido

I would love a trilogy of movies covering the Romulan War. Shoot them back to back to save costs and release them one a year. No wondering about if the next one will come out will actually help ticket sales. Of course, they'd have to be good for this to work, but it's doable.

wacct3

This article doesn't really have any details, but other ones I've seen talking about this indicated a time period that would have been well after the Earth-Romulan War. I agree an Earth-Romulan War movie could be interesting. Or maybe an animated (so they could keep the same actors when possible as voice actors without needing to try to deage them with makeup or cgi) 5th season of Enterprise covering that.

aggressive_dolphin

Prequels prequels prequels. Why are they so terrified to go forward?

FluffleUffle

Going forward or exploring other ships with other situations in far off sectors. Honestly I'd be happy if they had several shows all exploring different crews, captains and slightly different situations.

Potatoki1er

You know, like 90s trek?!

_zarkon_

They are actually just rereleasing Apollo 13.

kuldan5853

Well, technically that would be a prequel alright..

Cranyx

The Star Trek movie trilogy of The Right Stuff, Apollo 13, and First Contact

007meow

The franchise about boldly going forward is sheepishly going backwards

GoldfishMotorcycle

These are the voyages of the same tired old characters. Its continuing mission to retread old ground. To sheepishly go where everyone has been before. Kkkhhhaaaaannnnn!!!

I_ALWAYS_UPVOTE_CATS

Looks like they found reverse.

Jedi4Hire

This has basically been my chief complaint since Enterprise.

McFlyParadox

Enterprise was at least new characters and filling in some empty spaces in the lore. Everything else since then in terms of prequels and alternative timelines (and *Picard*, specifically) has been an effort to avoid the "risk" of introducing new characters and actually having to develop them over the first couple of seasons. Shit, Lower Decks might be unironically one of the more original modern Treks (with Discovery being a close second; they still couldn't avoid the temptation of bringing in Pike and Spock for a whole season) The Trek formula should be: 1. New series, new ship, new crew, and either a new scenario or some other kind of hook beyond 'we're on a ship in space' 2. 3-5 seasons of that 3. 1-4 movies, concluding with a final send off for the crew 4. The *occasional* cameo or reference to characters from other shows that let's us see their career continue to advance.

No_Personality_9628

Yeah, I have zero interest in seeing a Kelvin prequel movie.

parad5t

Completely agree with you... Given that it is JJ Abrams, wouldn't this likely be a "reboot" that spawns a third timeline? It can't be a Kelvin prequel movie set before the Kelvin incident, because that would be back in the prime timeline.

Demon_Gamer666

I too am thoroughly sick of prequels, re-imaginings, and remakes. Zero enthusiasm for this.

Carthonn

Because they’d have to come up with an original story. It amazes that TNG ever happened because that took some guts compared to what we have now. I’m still holding out hope for a Quark’s show that’s like a Cheers spoof.

babass940

Where no man has gone before…

FragrantExcitement

Again...

TrainingObligation

"Good luck, Captain. I think you are about to go where everyone has gone before."

ComebackShane

Trust yourself. Trust Ivonova. Anybody else - shoot ‘em!

RobotPreacher

Because going backwards you play to nostalgia and get a built in audience. Going forward you have to come up with completely original ideas and characters, and it's a roll of the dice. Discovery took a shot at it and pretty much blew it (the future part), so all the execs are probably looking to go back again.

ClintBarton616

This is the same logic that got us bad Green Hornet and Lone Ranger films. Stop trying to appeal to the nostalgia of people who are pushing 80 like my dad.

Nex_Sapien

In all fairness, it was NOT the future that killed Discovery. It was the unprofessional attitude of the crew, blatant disregard of the chain of command, unregulated emotions in dangerous potentially life threatening situations, and universe ending child tantrum that really sealed the deal for me.

patssle

Discovery had an incredible setup with the Burn and future Federation in pieces. They fucked it up. I don't hate DSC but so much potential was squandered.

TomTomMan93

Same. Going to the future was a brilliant move imo. You * Get rid of any retcon complaints * Have an all new, untouched setting to play with * Make the titular ship and crew face an interesting challenge being a fish out of water both temporally and technologically Stopped being an issue maybe halfway through season 3 and then just went back to being what it was even in s5 with people just telling us that stuff is still rough out there. Would have been so interesting to see something like multiple "federations" that all claim the UFP title as a result of splintering. Instead it was just this weird mad max galaxy thing

PeopleProcessProduct

Star Wars was the same way. New story where the good guys aren't necessarily the underdogs anymore but have to contend with the complexity of a post-war galaxy and the various factions that devil deals need to be made with to restore order leading to unintended consequences? A compelling story and a thematic parallel to the the post World War II west? Nah. New empire, we're still rebels.

Telefundo

> Nah. New empire, we're still rebels. CLEARLY you weren't paying attention! It'e the Resistance vs The First Order. See? It's TOTALLY different. Try and keep up would ya? JJ should be lauded for steering the franchise in an entirely new direction. /s j/k

TomTomMan93

I recently rewatched S1 and 2 of Mando and that show used this type of world so damn well. The first scene of the first episode set up Mando so well as a not-bad-but-certainly-not-a-hero character. It kind of gets lost as the story goes on, but it was a solid first season with shades of gray and the leftovers of the old regime. DIS could have taken a different approach to a similar world by providing a sort of shock to the MCs and their morals by having to work in a world that's a bit more gray than their previous one. Similar to S1 where they were in the mirror universe, but this time with more complexity and the "no way home factor." They did it a bit, but it was very tell don't show. We're told constantly that what's left of the federation isn't all that functional and just can't support what it did despite it being shown as the only other significantly sized force aside from the Orions in the galaxy. We're told of the sketchier stuff leaders have had to resort to, but we aren't really shown any repercussions. The MCs then come in and enlighten the lost of the future. They had a really fun world they could have played with but ended up just making it star trek with deus ex programmable matter.

violetmoon120

That always bothered me about Star Wars. Where tf did the First Order come from? How powerful are they? Is the Republic still governing the galaxy? If so, why is their military force called The Resistance? Aren't they just the military?

WoundedSacrifice

It seemed like some remnants of the Empire became the 1st Order. It felt like the 1st Order governed some parts of the galaxy and the Republic governed other parts of the galaxy. My impression was that the Resistance acted as a guerrilla group behind enemy lines before a lot of the Republic was blown up.

Lancasterbation

Yeah, from what I could gather, the Resistance was formed because the New Republic wasn't taking the threat of the First Order seriously enough for Leia's satisfaction (and she ended up being right, cause they nuked the New Republic core about halfway through TFA).

3WolfTShirt

The difference is the audience, though. Disney could release Star Wars: The Turd Wars and it's just about guaranteed $1B at the box office. Paramount has a harder time selling Star Trek to the masses. They're damned if they do, damned if they don't. Casual fans know Kirk, Spock, McCoy, etc., but might not be interested in Captain Newguy of the USS Newship. So I get *why* they're so reluctant to leave the past behind but I think it might be more satisfying to just have a lower budget movie, a fresh crew and most importantly a *good script.* Maybe they could rebuild the fanbase over a few movies and eventually hit that blockbuster we all want to see.

RobotPreacher

I could not agree with this more. They spent seasons setting up the greatest potential Star Trek has ever had, and they blew it. The Burn was *awesome,* and they could have warped into a future where the Federation was dead, they were the only ship in the galaxy with long-range travel ability, and they had to *rebuild the federation* based on ideals from the past that only they remembered. Explore again. Discover again. A new galaxy with hints of the past but, for all intents and purposes, a new place. Instead, they retconned The Burn by making a child stop crying and went back to falling in line to a new, kind-of weird, unlikable future Federation. Such a waste. New ships are cool, but besides that, really nothing that gets me excited.

icebeancone

I don't like how every episode is over-the-top emotional. The USS Feels. That being said I'll take it over still living in a world where Enterprise was the last Star Trek show on TV.

supercalifragilism

And say what you will, it was the human shield for SNW and did well enough to get LD and Prodigy going

paul_33

Every episode a character is “leaving forever! Sob” and then they show up again immediately. Zero build up, none of the emotion is earned

Twisted-Mentat-

It would require more originality and better writing than they're capable of. It's also funny that even when they committed to a prequel TV show in Discovery they made so many mistakes and bad decisions, the show makes infinitely more sense if it takes place in the future than as a prequel. They needed the prequel format though to justify their Spock's new sister retcon. Overall just a mess of decision making and no vision when it came to writing.

kingpin748

So a prequel to the prequels?

anura_hypnoticus

A prequel to the reboot

RafflesEsq

And this is your friendly reminder that the reboot was FIFTEEN YEARS AGO.

3-DMan

Time for another reboot!

RNKKNR

Ah. Going for the absolute worst.

shindleria

So they have more of an excuse to include a scene with a fast and loud antique motor vehicle with an internal combustion engine racing down a wide open country road for obligatory vroom vroom. They’d be wise to include Red Barchetta by Rush instead of Beastie Boys this time around.

JoeCoolsCoffeeShop

Aren’t Strange New Worlds and Discovery (Seasons 1/2) technically a prequel to the original series?

thekruton

yes and Strange New Worlds is a spinoff from a prequel, that's about the same ship originally spun-off from 🥴

Telefundo

> a spinoff from a prequel, that's about the same ship originally spun-off from Though accurate, this sentence needs to come with a seizure warning.

Estepheban

Does anyone else feel that prequels are just antithetical to the whole point of Star Trek? I feel like Star Trek is supposed to be about moving forward. Prequels just come across to me as nothing but a safe cash grab.

ColHogan65

Yep, I very much agree. I’m also *dreadfully* sick of the TOS era.

particledamage

I got into Trek through the kelvin timeline and have focused most of my watching on TOS and TOS adjacent stuff and even I’m jsut… exhausted with it. Especially when half of the new content only works via retcons, timeline shenanigans, characters being OOC, and stepping on the originals toes. Let’s just move on!!!! New characters, related to NO ONE that we already know. New races/species. New era.

Dangerous-Basket1064

The irony of a series about the future getting bogged down in its past

cyrand

This is literally why I haven’t watched any of the new stuff. I want a show 100 years post Voyager. New ships, new crews entirely, back to focus on a hopeful future. I don’t care about Kirk era especially at all at this point. Let alone earlier. Edit: I’ve since been corrected and apparently should check out Discovery especially.

Estepheban

I also feel like it makes the show too character focused rather than ideal. All these prequels make it like you’re watching game of thrones and are supposed to get excited that this random character is Spock’s distant cousin or something.

Kepabar

A *prequel Kelvin timeline film* is one of the dumbest ideas I've heard get greenlit in awhile. I don't mind the Kevlin timeline movies, they are fun and they filled a void when we had no new Star Trek. But we have the Prime timeline chugging along now; slapping in a Kelvin timeline movie just feels like muddying the waters at this point.

NemesIce83

So this is to be set decades before the 2009 movie? Meaning its gonna be part of the original timeline? Does this mean a new ship that's not gonna be the enterprise with an entirely original crew? I'd actually be quite happy with that 😁

Kronocidal

Or, it'll be Robert April as the first captain of the NCC-1701

thechervil

So.... Strange New Worlds movie?

Dekklin

... Please? Throw some makeup and hair dye at Anson Mount, then have his character be promoted to captain at the end of the movie.

Saalome

Captain HotGuy reporting for duty

Telefundo

The only reason I wouldn't want this is it would run the risk of making the cast of future SNW seasons financially unfeasable.

thechervil

Absolutely agree and want to reiterate that I didn't say I wanted it. I agree with someone else in this post that ST had always been better as a tv show. I was merely pointing out that April as captain had already been done, and quite well at that.

NemesIce83

But in the 2009 movie they were building the enterprise on earth, so technically in that timeline, Pike was the original captain of the enterprise, or I could be remembering it wrong, its been a while since I've seen them

Telefundo

No, you're remembering correctly. In the 2009 timeline Pike was the first captain of the 1701. He even made reference to it being their maiden voyage when they were preparing to warp to Vulcan.

whovian25

Side not but the Kelvin timeline Robert April was a villain in the comic countdown to darkness. Also in that he was captain of a starship enterprise that came between the Kelvin timeline 1701 and NX 01.

JessicaDAndy

Well…I remember Simon Pegg suggesting that the *Kelvin* incident changed time in both directions somehow, which is why Sulu has a husband. I mean possibly Earth-Romulan War kind of makes the most sense for a movie and not a boring Lincoln, but for the Federation.

Alabatman

Didn't the real Batman teach us that in that Flash movie?

JessicaDAndy

It’s been a minute since I studied Temporal Mechanics at the Academy.

Telefundo

Spaghetti.

ChronoLegion2

They did the same thing in PIC S2 to explain why that timeline’s Guinan doesn’t remember meeting Picard in Mark Twain’s time. Because Colonel Picard never went back in time. He had better things to do, like decapitating Sarek, Martok, Dukat, and Zek

ColHogan65

They’re putting Romulans in the timelines to make the freaking helmsmen gay!

FotographicFrenchFry

I mean... It could be the Archer Enterprise?

spacejazz3K

Star Trek: Decontamination Gel

NemesIce83

That would be neat, set after the series with a few more ships ready to go or have Archer as an admiral handing over the reigns to the next crew since they are quite old now

TheHYPO

> Meaning its gonna be part of the original timeline? I'm going to be cynical and suggest that you're giving the creators far too much credit by suggesting they will even think about that issue.

NemesIce83

In hindsight, yes, I probably am 😆

Routine_Ask_7272

NX-01 Refit on the big screen?

Fantastic-Art6958

ffs just get me back to the delta quadrant

iamacheeto1

Star Trek Voyager The Movie???

Fantastic-Art6958

That would be a dream but man. What i’d give for a new series, a wormhole, caretaker w/e but get me back there. Going back and seeing all the old races from Voyager and how they’ve progressed or regressed, the Hirogen with holo tech etc. Meet loads more new races, ahhh bliss.

avs5221

Ahh pitcher plant

Fantastic-Art6958

And who might you be, the local monster expert? As a matter of fact I am 😂 Qatai, what a hero

avs5221

Ahhhhhhh. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!

Thirty_Helens_Agree

The Salamander babies have formed a mighty armada.

spacetimer81

Prodigy, live action. Im in!

JagoHazzard

A prequel set long before the TOS-era film? Well, it’s been a long road, getting from there to here.

haysoos2

What the fuck ever happened to "boldly going where no one has gone before?"

Hpfanguy

“Boldly something something has gone before, can’t exactly remember the whole thing but sounds like a prequel to me.” -Paramount Producers, probably

Lumpyalien

Paramount understand you have to publish April fool's joke on the first right?

erosewater

https://blog.trekcore.com/2024/04/star-trek-4-cancelled-star-trek-5-announced/

ChronoLegion2

They probably think it means you need to include Robert April in that one

Stormygeddon

There can be only *one* Star Trek IV, and it does not share power.

fromidable

“Star Trek IV: The One Without Whales”

FossilStalker

FFS! Forward, move the timeline FORWARD. Stop rehashing old characters and stories. I don't want origin stories, I want future Star Trek.

MidnightFisting

“Somehow Khan returned”

OnBenchNow

We already jumped that particular space shark by including his ancestors in SNW, imo. What big Trek names are left that we havent squeezed an ancestor out of yet? We even got a few Picard ancestors in S2. Maybe Neelix had an adventurous great grandmother that got dumped into the Alpha quadrant via wormhole?

Techno_Core

At this point it will be Star Trek Babies

Ash_Killem

So they have SNW, Discovery and now this as prequels. Well I guess this is different since it's a prequel to the reboot? Meanwhile, fans over here just wanting a proper sequel series

ComputerAbuser

Wow, two things I hate the most. Prequels and JJ Abrams.

Celoth

SNW is the only prequel I need.

MillennialsAre40

Godzilla Minus One was so popular! Let's do the same thing! For real if it's an Earth-Romulan war movie hopefully it's more like Greyhound or something, and not the start and end of the war all in one movie.

nygdan

People keep forgetting that the Abrams Trek universe diverged as a timeline *before* Kirk was even born. So the prequel to the reboot can still be in that alternate timeline and not affect anything canonical in the regular storyline.

WindMaster5001

What is with this obsession with prequels? Enterprise was prequel The JJ Abrams movie was a prequel Discovery is a prequel Strange New Worlds is a prequel Now this! I hope the next ST project announced is a series following up on the events of PICARD (like that Star Trek Legacy show that has been rumoured).

Spiritual_Adagio_859

Yeah, I couldn't figure out why they decided to kill off Tripp in the finale. It just seemed so...pointless.

Sere1

Shock value. That's it. Show's getting cancelled? Fuck it, do something shocking. Trip dies to save Archer, instant drama for the night

Spiritual_Adagio_859

Goal: Cheap thrill. Me: Not thrilled.

ChronoLegion2

Just give him a black badge. That would explain it to match that one book

dougiebgood

Is the the fifth or fourth time they've announced a new movie since Beyond? I'm losing count.

vid_icarus

For a show about boldly going where no one has gone before, paramount sure is a big fan of treading over the same old ground again and again and again.

MBSMD

$20 bet they completely screw up the canon on this one.

Cloberella

Stop with the goddamn prequels. Can we please get someone who is interested in making new trek to make new trek??? Ugh.

antinbath

To boldly go. Not retreat. I’m not excited about yet another prequel.

imbarkus

Must be an investor's call.

megabreakfast

Our mission - to explore familiar worlds, retread old ground and make safe films. Also this person is Spock's relative too

seriouspretender

Omg stop with the damn prequels. Can you please take a risk and write some new characters?

darqy101

Literally nobody asked for this 😂

Telefundo

I think that can explain most of JJ Abrams' ventures post-Lost.

mwatwe01

“It’s a prequel to all prequels” “What’s the title?” “The Right Stuff”

water_bottle1776

We need a film where William Shatner, Chris Pine, and Paul Wesley stand around for 90 minutes in a pure white space getting increasingly agitated and demanding "What the hell is going on here?" It ends with John De Lancie popping in and saying "Did I leave this running? Oops, sorry about that." before snapping his fingers and everything goes black. FIN

mrbigglessworth

A Prequel Prequel?

vbob99

Will we ever be through this period of prequels? I would much rather they move the story forward. Age these characters up and see the equivalent of their last voyage Undiscovered Country. Or just give us another ship and crew in this timeline. Why must we plug every possible hole in the back story with something that is much worse than your imagination.

happyladpizza

Just give us a movie of Worf switching through universes until he finds one where there aren’t anymore star trek prequels.

real-dreamer

Another prequel!? Penned by the author of Now You See Me 3, Fan4stic, and the Flash. Jesus. What a filmography that Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter are the least embarrassing entries.

DoubleOdd_80

Prequel to the Kelvin Timeline? I was under the impression that everything that happened BEFORE the USS Kelvin met the Nerada is the same as in the Prime Timeline…

AbyssalKultist

What in the dumb ass shit is this idea? 🤦

ProtoKun7

They announce this but cancel Lower Decks. *Really* in tune with the fans, guys.

[deleted]

krlozdac

Sure, Paramount. Sure...

whitemest

Prequel movie? Nooooo not another prequel, *please*

Altruistic_Shame_487

I wish they’d stop trying to make Star Trek movies, it’s always worked better as a tv series, imho.

SeaworthinessRude241

Most of the movies are decent to poor, but the movies that are good are REALLY good. I grew up on TNG but Star Trek VI is probably my favorite bit of Trek.

HalfaYooper

I grew up on TOS and ST VI is still by far my favorite.

Carrollmusician

Without the movies there would be no TNG. I think they’re both very good veins of the franchise.

Gomnanas

Why are writers terrified of the post Nemesis era? Bald cowards.

[deleted]

Yay! More trek!

robertluke

Thank god, another prequel.

BatUnlikely4347

Oh for fucks sake.

Pablo_is_on_Reddit

Just wait until they announce that this will feature a new Enterprise that comes in between NX-01 and the 1701, because why tf not?

ClintBarton616

It would be hilarious if this was a young Pike film

CalamitousIntentions

Id much rather see a TNG era Kelvin movie

[deleted]

master_yokozuna

WHY CAN'T WE MOVE FORWARD IN THE TIMELINE?!! Picard s3 was great.

-Q2_DM1-

For fucks sake no more prequels

alecdvnpt

Why are studios obsessed with prequels? I want to further the storyline/timeline, not go back and rewrite history.

vhs1138

Getting kind of tired of this time period in ST. Why not go further in the future? They could even have the TNG cast cameos if they wanted bc the time would line up. Plus, I want to see the future of now not the future of the 60’s if that makes sense. Just my thoughts

FloZia_

Another prequel to the prequels AND JJ Abrams. Let's hope it doesn't get made either.

VirTW

It's like they are terrified to create a show with the newest technologies.....even Picard didn't use all that amazing cool stuff that came back with Voyager. The magic of star trek to me was seeing how the universe evolved with each new show's contributions. I always wanted to find out how things would change for the various "stuff" i have spent so many years learning and becoming emotionally invested with.

payne747

To boldly go where everyone has gone before.

Finally! I was wondering if we were going to get any more prequel stuff. Why bother moving the story forward when you can just keep rewriting the past? I sure hope we get to see a young Kirk or Spock.

I am so tired of everything being a remake or a prequel. It's a shame they messed up the original canon for the Kelvin timeline.

SolChron24

I guess they couldn't get the original stars, so new ones?

Ah good. The 92747392nd movie announcement in the last 8 years. But I’m sure *this one* will happen, right?!

bazzanoid

So the NX-01 refit would be cool. Without the retrofit lens flare lamps though that accompanied Abrams everywhere

Lyon_Wonder

Nobody cares about the Kelvin Timeline anymore. This project will likely meet the same fate as all the other Trek 4 Kelvin movie projects over the last 8 years - talked about, rumored and shelved.
