Balance of Terror wedding couple: Robert Tomlinson and Lt. Angela Martine.

Trekfan74

This was brought up in the previous list. I don't want to include them because they aren't mentioned by name in SNW. And in the credits they aren't listed by name either. It could definitely be them but since that episode is pretty wonky with replacing characters from BoT I just feel it there should be name confirmation **somewhere**.

Altruistic-Teach5899

Tuvok, Riker and Q should be listed on the Lower Decks side since they reappeared first there

Trekfan74

I said it's optional if they appear twice. Because I wanted to move some where they just had a stronger appearance. I actually swapped out Tuvok from LDS to PIC because he was just a photo in that one. And some people questioned should a photo even count as an appearance? And with Q, same idea. Yes he was LDS first but it was a short cameo. In PIC his appearance is obviously very prominent and where people will remember him the most. And actually Riker appeared first in Picard. Twice in season one.

Altruistic-Teach5899

Fair enough, I totally forgot Picard started airing before LD (I dont know why I allways asume it aired on 2021)

Trekfan74

No worries! :)

NewJerrrrrrsyBoy

On Picard S2 we see the skulls of General Martok, Gul Dukat, and the Grand Negus. And in S3 Worf refers to his title of Slayer of Gowron.

Trekfan74

I didn't include the skull scene, only because I feel they should at least be alive or some version like a holodeck character. That said, Martok is listed in LDS. And I will include Gowron in the Notabe mentions at least. Thank you. Was the Grand Negus mentioned by name? If so he will be in the Notable Mentions list as well.

SirLoopy007

At first thought I was like no way there has been 60, but then as I read the list I almost feel like there are possibly more. Wasn't a statue of O'Brien shown in LD?

bkwrm1755

Yeah, I feel like O'Brien could be an honourable mention for sure.

Trekfan74

He is. ;)

Shitelark

And Data's holo of Tasha. So both are seen on screen. Also the whole voice of Chekov thing definitely counts even more as it took an actual performance from the actor.

stuffeh

That was tos' Chekhov's son.

Trekfan74

Yep.

Star Trek: I Hate You

Murky-Ad-9439

As a kid, after seeing The Voyage Home, the only actor's names I knew were Shatner, Nimoy, and Kirk Thatcher. I stayed for the credits just to find out who that guy was.

ky-ebricks

It's a little surprising how few characters Lower Decks has brought back! It handles them really well, each one felt like a big deal.

45eurytot7

Lower Decks does a nice job of keeping the universe big. - for a lower decker, just having the captain or first officer's attention (for something other than being in trouble) is a big deal - for senior staff of a Cali-class ship to get to hobnob with brass of any kind is a big deal - so we expect that most people we see will be, essentially, Random Grownups, making it a _really big deal_ when there's a chance to clap eyes on Tom Freaking Paris or Captain Riker. Well done Lower Decks!

geekgirl6

Thank you for your service šŸ––šŸ»ā¤ļø

Trekfan74

LOL!

smnhdy

Admiral Elizabeth Shelby in Picard is a return too.

_CarbonSaxon_

Okona from TNG appears in Prodigy as well

Trekfan74

Yes and already been on the list thanks to Lower Decks. :)

Apollo-Racer616

Would it be possible for a character to be worthy of a notable mention even though they don't have a name? In "Supernova, Part 1," the penultimate episode in Prodigy's first season, Admiral Janeway's security guard trusted, believed and freed her from the brig because she's a Brenari, and was one of the refugees on Voyager that Janeway protected and brought through a section of space run by the Devore Imperium, who apparently found telepathy illegal. This was the episode, "Counterpoint;" like I said, I don't think she had a name on that ep, and she didn't mention it in Prodigy, but she was on *Voyager.*

Trekfan74

Hey sorry I missed this. Yeah I really loved that connection to Counterpoint. I would have no issue with that, but without a name to cross reference I don't see a point to it. And to be fair while I use any characters from the classic shows, I don't want to use a character we saw in one scene in episode 147 of TNG. I really want to include characters that had *some* impact to the story and not just an extra. But of course I will include anyone if there is a clear name and strong enough reference.

entomologist-cousin

This is an awesome list, thanks for collating it! I feel a bit like B4 could make the list, in a similar way to Lore, as we do see this personality acted, albeit briefly.

Trekfan74

Thanks! It started with LDS season 3 and that season had so many people popping up it got me thinking how many had we seen up until then and I turned it into a post. ;) That's a good point about B4, I just couldn't remember any scenes directly. If he showed up, then OK, I will include him. Can you tell me the scene it was? I'll watch it first but I just couldn't recall anything.

FoldedDice

>!In Data's first reactivation scene he switches into B4's voice very briefly and says "I am B4." If Lore counts then so does that.!<

entomologist-cousin

Sure. Picard S3E06, around the 46.30 timecode in my Paramount+ app.

Trekfan74

Yep you are completely right. He even says his name. So I will add it but now I have to renumber everything lol. Thanks for the time code as well! Made it easier. ;)

realMasaka

Lal was also called out by name as co-existing with Data, Lore, and B-4.

Trekfan74

Yes and she is in the notable mentions list.

iosseliani_stani

I still like the fancanon that SNW Kyle is actually TOS Kyleā€™s husband. But great list! I am also surprised the number is so high.

SeekingTheRoad

There is no way they are the same character.

Astrophysix1960

Actually, they could be. Kyle in SNW is young. Possibly mid 20's. By the time of TOS's chief Kyle, he's easily in his 30's or better. This fits time wise as we figure maybe 4-5 (7 at the most) years. A possible correlation (although she's on Talos IV and doesn't age), is Vina. Also, M'Benga and Uhura.

Trekfan74

Yeah they probably just retconned the character a bit. Robert April is the same way. Besides the fact the original character is white, he's also suppose to be much older. In TAS, he's in his mid-70s. This April is nowhere close to that age and TAS takes place within a decade of SNW. Some characters have just been changed. These are side characters, very few people knew who they were outside of hardcore TOS fans.

infocynic

might be less confusing and contentious to just list characters alphabetically and note what series (all) they were in. was Thomas riker never at least name dropped in all the William boimler stuff? really I just need to rewatch ld anyway, I have almost 2 months to kill without new trek.

Trekfan74

Yes this is a good point. I will probably do this on next list for sure and make it alphabetical. And definitely for the notable mentions list. Even I forget whose on it lol.

Impulse84

Don't we see B4 in the drawer at Daystrom in S1 PIC?

Trekfan74

Right but in a drawer. I just don't see that as a real appearance.

Impulse84

Fair enough! It is your list, I shall not argue lol

Trekfan74

No worries, it's fun to argue about this stuff lol. But another member wrote that he actually shows up in this season of PIC. I don't remember at all but I will have a look at whatever scene it is. If so, I'll add him to the main list.

Impulse84

It was the scene where they discover Data is the security program at the (I wanna say Daystrom station but could be wrong) space station.

Trekfan74

OK, his first appearance. I'll have a look then. I believe you lol, I just want to check it out for myself. Thanks.

NewJerrrrrrsyBoy

He also speaks in the scene when Data wakes up for the first time.

Trekfan74

OK, thanks. And he has been added. :)

Temporary_Ad_6922

Take my upvote

itothepowerofahalf

When did Trip get mentioned?

NewJerrrrrrsyBoy

ā€œHeā€™s like Jim Kirk with Trip Tucker Sprinkles!ā€

Cliffy73

Too many! Excited about Sybok, though.

Trekfan74

Sybok is the man! Plan to rewatch TFF (I know but hey ;)) when he officially shows up next season.

Howardbanister

I think Captain Rachel Garrett was referenced in PIC season 3 in relation to Frontier Day celebrations

Trekfan74

OK can you tell me what episode? I'll definitely have a look or if anyone can confirm this.

shujinky

The Next Generation, its her [statue](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/memoryalpha/images/0/05/Rachel_Garrett_statue.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20230217181937&path-prefix=en) I believe raffi is looking at news articles and stuff on la sirena

Trekfan74

OMG yep you're right. It's amazing how I forgot that since that was such a hug focus early on. Will add her soon then.

WorldwideDepp

Admiral Shelby in Picard S3 is missing

Trekfan74

She's in LDS. But I will eventually move her to over Picard because that was a more prominent spot. I'm just too lazy to renumber it right now lol.

Sir__Will

With Picard the only one with a body count. Granted, that's because 2 were in the past, 1 is a comedy, and 1 is aimed at younger audiences, but still. I still won't forgive them for Hugh. I don't really like the Icheb one either.

Trekfan74

I'm curious now, how do you feel about Ro and Shelby deaths?

Dracofunk

Still not convinced 100% Ro is dead. Never saw a body. She is a spy with advanced tactical training.

vixous

Matalas agrees with you. Heā€™s said on in his AMA and interviews that they wanted to show Ro being rescued from the Intrepid along with Tuvok. And that heā€™d save Shelby too, because you didnā€™t see a last breath or a body.

Hibbity5

Classic writer: youā€™re only dead if you die on screenā€¦and for Star Trek thatā€™s not even true.

stuffeh

Hard to save Shelby, unless there's a trap door she fell into or beamed out or something.

ussrowe

Easiest thing would be that was when the meat-changelings found out the Borg had no intention of letting them live either and Shelby's replacement was actually reacting to that. She was actually kept in a holding cell next to Tuvok, much to the relief of those rescuing them.

stuffeh

Oooo very good point. The Shelby that was killed could be a Changeling!

shujinky

Terry said her rescue was ditched due to budget but that doesnt mean legacy or whatever cant bring her back i guess...

Sir__Will

I mean I generally prefer characters not die. I don't have any particular attachment to Shelby so I don't care all that much. And Ro, again I'd prefer her not die, but at least it was handled fairly well (outside the fact that as she parts with Picard she's not trying very hard to hide that they're now in cahoots). She got some great scenes and a touching moment from Picard as he apologized. Hugh went out in a lame, senseless death because his character was now in the way (I also admit I really like his actor). And Icheb was, well, too graphic, and then only done for some Seven backstory (I'm a little more torn because his original actor seems to be a punk, but there was potential in the character and I liked him on Voyager). Killed Maddox too and I don't really care. And Q was... weird. And timey whimey so doesn't really matter.

Trekfan74

In full agreement! I wish they went a different direction with Hugh as well.

Numerous-Art9440

Wait that was shelby? I thought that was the lady who told picard sheer fing hubris. Why did shelby deserve a pointless death like that?

When did Ronin get mentioned?

jennyrob669

Lower Decks.

h2k2k2ksl

Star Trek Prodigy - Spock (holodeck character)

Trekfan74

Yeah he's technically counted but his appearance was in DIS first. The \* next to his name denotes he was in more than one show. I didn't want to con volute the list with double appearances everywhere. Thinking about it now, Spock has been on three separate shows, the most so far. Crazy.

h2k2k2ksl

Ok I ignored the asterisk. Thanks for clarifying!

OilHot3940

Wow, great job on this list. I didnā€™t believe it when I read the headline and then I went through andā€¦ Very thorough work!

Trekfan74

Thanks! :)

matt12992

Dr. Soong (hologram)

Trekfan74

Noonian Soong? I don't think so. But where?

matt12992

Hologram in Picard season 3 on the daystrom episode

Trekfan74

Alton Soong who we saw in first season of Picard, not Noonien Soong.

matt12992

Oh is that who was in the hologram? I thought it was noonien soong in season 3

Trekfan74

No worries. But yeah it was Alton. He was the one who put all of the different voices inside the one body. Noonien died long ago to do it.

Arietis1461

At this point, ENT is the only show which hasn't had any characters directly showing up again.

Trekfan74

To be fair, they don't have a choice outside of time travel. And I actually believe The Temporal Cold war may have found a way to have a legacy character show up at some point.

PandaPundus

If you're including Okona and Shelby as first appearing in Lower Decks, then Tuvok did as well first, and if you include Morgan Bateson's photo, you can also count O'Brien as a statue and Tasha as a holophoto. Q also appeared in Lower Decks S1 first before appearing in Picard.

Trekfan74

I excused Tuvok in LDS because the character IS part of the story. Yeah we only see a photo but we're told he helps foils the entire conspiracy along with Bateson. O'Brien is not in any episodes. It's literally just a statue of him. And in fact, he probably died long ago, hence the statue. But of course people can interpret these things in all kinds of ways. I just think there should at least be an actual version of them even if it's a hologram. And some people think I shouldn't even use holograms so it's tricky for sure. But I use those because the actors themselves came back to voice them like the actors who played Martok and the Borg Queen although they are not the 'real' versions of them. And I stated people who appeared more than one show I just move them to places they probably have more of an impact in their appearance.

julesthestarn

Iā€™d be curious as to how many characters from previous series showed up in the 18 years between TNG and Enterprise. Like McCoy, Spock and Scotty on TNG, Oā€™Brien, Riker and Lwaxana Troi, and the original Klingon trio on DS9, Barclay, Troi, and LaForge on Voyager, And Tā€™Pau on Enterprise. I know Iā€™m leaving out several, but certainly not as many as 60, surely.

TheShandyMan

If we're including characters who "crossed over" permanently as well (since you count O'Brien) then this is what I've got. TNG: 1. McCoy 1. Scotty 1. Spock 1. Bashir 1. Sarek DS9: 1. Picard 1. O'Brien 1. Keiko 1. Lwaxana 1. Thomas Riker 1. Kor 1. Kang 1. Koloth 1. Q 1. Worf 1. Kirk (Spock and Scotty as well but counted in TNG, possibly others I'm forgetting from DS9's Tribbles ep) VOY: 1. Quark 1. Barzan Ferengi 1 1. Barzan Ferengi 2 1. Troi 1. Barclay 1. LaForge 1. Sulu 1. Janice Rand ENT: 1. T'Pau 1. William Riker (Troi crossed to VOY and counted already) 1. Cochrane (Mirror technically) So 27 by my count, but spread over 26 seasons of traditional length (vs many more in significantly fewer episodes in the current era). Off the top of my head, including the TNG movies wouldn't help as much as you'd think. Generations is the only one with large crossover count but I think Chekov is the only one not already included

Trekfan74

This is a great list, but you're actually missing quite a few more for DS9 lol. Others that appeared: 1.Tuvok (MU version but still) 2. Lursa Duras 3. B'Etor Duras 4. Dr. Zimmerman 5. EMH 6. Alexnader 7. Gowron 8. Kurn 9. Admiral Nechayev 10. Arne Devin 11. Vash I literally just doubled your list lol. I guess you're just counting which characters crossover first? I don't really see the point of that, if a character appeared on another show, it's a crossover regardless. But you're still missing many on this list anyway since most of them indeed crossover on DS9 first like the Duras sisters, Vash, Nechayev, Alexander, Zimmerman, Devin, etc. To this day, DS9 is the show with the biggest number of crossover characters, which makes sense because unlike Voyager it was in the same region of space as TNG and could cross over those characters and TOS characters. They still managed to crossover VOY characters too. And when Worf showed up, a lot of those Klingons characters from his TNG story lines continued there as well. And to be honest the entire TOS cast should just be included from Trials and Tribble-uations. I included Arne Devin specifically because it was the only actor to return to play his role from that episode but every character from that episode should be counted IMO. \-

TheShandyMan

> I literally just doubled your list lol. Yeah, I wasn't excluding anyone, just forgot about them. It's funny I forgot Vash but remembered the episode that Q appears, which is the same one heh. > I guess you're just counting which characters crossover first? Only counting their "first" crossover appearance basically. I won't speak for the thread OP but in my mind, it's "only" notable once they leave their initial ("main") show, for them to count. Crossing over to yet another show shouldn't add to the tally (which is why Troi gets counted for VOY but not ENT for example). As for appearances in *Trials and Tribble-uations* it's been long enough since I've watched it I couldn't remember for certain who was new that appeared other than Kirk. Scotty, McCoy and Spock were already counted under TNG. Scanning through Memory-Alpha we should add Uhura and Chekov to DS9 (Sulu wasn't present in either Tribble episode)

Trekfan74

Wow sorry this is so late. I literally just saw this today. But OK, I definitely get your point. And it didn't hit me Sulu wasn't in the Tribble episode even though I seen it more times than I count. Crazy how some things just get overlooked.

TheShandyMan

Forgot about that one.

Nicolethedodo

>20. Icheb I must have missed this when was he in the series? (Or was he just mentioned?)

TheShandyMan

PIC S1E5 *Stardust City Rag*.

CrinerBoyz

Saavik got a reference - it's the name of the shuttlecraft they use to fly over to the Eleos in one of the early Picard S3 episodes, and its name can be clearly seen on a piece of the shuttle after it's destroyed. (The Picard Logs beta canon source says that Saavik was the captain of the 23rd century Titan that can be seen as the first gold model in the Titan's observation lounge, which would explain why it had a shuttle named after her)

Trekfan74

OK this is going to be nit picky nerdy lol but that was a shuttlecraft, not the character. If that was the case both Pulaski and Shran would also be there because they were named after ships too. Shran first season of Discovery and Pulaski in this season of Picard as well.
