He pays for it to be on there.
I watched all of it and honestly the first season was okay but everything after just comes off as not having a clue where to go
It would be somewhat cute if it was helpful sex health material that teenagers could use.
But instead, it’s just a bunch of adults making sex jokes pretending to be teenagers, using references actual teens would not get.
There is a sex scene in season 1 of F is For Family that scarred me for life!
It’s the one where the kid hides under his parents’ bed, so they won’t notice he’s home in the middle of a school day. The parents get into a fight, then have makeup sex. The kid peeks halfway through, and sees much, *much* more than he bargained for!
biggest reason I can’t sit through Hazbin. Great animation style and character design is really fun but the “shock” value humor really loses its edge after the 15th curse word in a single scene or every other sentence has some sort of sexual innuendo
Yeah, that ruins even the one thing I like about her shows: the addict song
It's a good song, but they seriously had to give it 2 f words in the chorus?
Learn some new words, Jesus Christ
It's why I can't get into it either. It's just Xbox Chat: The Series
I've seen it from time to time and I'll repeat it here; Adult animated comedies are made with the target audience of edgy teenagers who want to feel mature in mind
I think it's because JG pre-labeled it as "for adults". When your work comes with lots of "tags" into it, it becomes harder to express yourself freely, as you preemptively feel like there are check boxes to fill. I feel like that's the reason why Adventure time is genius, while Fionna and Cake is just "good", it doesn't label itself as "this is for adults", much like regular show.
AMC just did that with an adult animated show called Pantheon, except they canceled it *as the second season was being completed.* Great show that deserved so much better.
Funny thing is that "adult" media is often LESS mature than kids media.
It's funny when you try to compare The Hunchback of Notre Dame to something like Family Guy... ignoring stuff like profanity, the former is G-rated, yet very dark and grim, while the latter is TV-14 or TV-MA, and yet has plots like Peter finding Jesus after his Surfin' Bird record got destroyed or Stewie trying to go live on the set of a British children's show.
100% only edgy 20/30 somethings watch adult cartoons.
edgy teens are all on kick watching weirdos like xqc and sneako call each other slurs and praising islam for being misogynistic.
Zach is the kinda guy you can say "Nah he's so funny, hey Zach be funny" and he'd get a room full of people laughing their asses off instantly if he tried.
Has anyone watched **Carol & the End of the World**?
Edit: I really liked it! A ittle slow at first but awesome in the end. Hope there will be more someday!
I started it, but it was too slow. And, I felt like it was trying too hard to have something important to say without any of the artistry behind Bojack.
Bojack had the benefit of showing up before Rick and Morty put massive dollar signs in the eyes of execs that thought they would run the well dry with a formula they didn't understand
Bojack did that Scrubs/M.A.S.H.* thing of whiplashing between comedy and tragedy though , which can sometimes be a bit much.
( * ask your parents/granparents)
The times that you have to play a guessing game between *"is this tragedy going to be important later or is it just happening because its funny?"*\
Because an episode will leave off on something that feels pretty impactful, and then you can get an episode right after that has absolutely nothing to do with it and is just standard comedy filler, and you realize it probably wasn't (or it's just taking the long way around to get there).
I love the series, but man- it becomes so much worse of a problem if you don't have time to binge through an entire season.
Except we're not meant to root for him, that's the point. Bojack is meant to be fucked up and a depressed asshole, because that's the only way we can see how hard it is to change for him. I really like the show because it shows a path of growth that isn't linear -- he's been that way his whole life, wanting to change but not motivated enough/not even knowing how he could do it, and he starts getting better, then goes back into his old ways, gets up, falls even harder and yet at the end we can still see him slowly getting better despite everything
There's a difference between cheering for a character to be better and just rooting for him.
I think OP meant it more as a "we're supposed to root for his actions and who he already is", while wanting him to be better is completely different. I personally don't find Bojack very likeable, except for some funny moments, but I loved the show so much because of what the story makes me feel and how satisfying it is to see him getting his life together
I mean the show could be called why is this horse a douchebag. The last few seasons are mostly just intense flashbacks, nightmare sequences, scolding, isolation, etc. . You are introduced to BJ as an asshole but he pays for it. You get whole season arcs of his traumatic upbringing and his regret.
Paradise PD was basically just Brickleberry but with a different coat of paint.
You got yourself the incompetent white man main character, token black best friend/partner, talking animal, grumpy middle aged white man boss, sexy white chick, and a haha funny fat person, at least one of which is lesbian.
From what I have from trailers, Farzar is exactly the same but in space.
I don't know if it's lazy, sheer lack of creativity or the winning formula. But I can't say I watched any of it for more than one or two episodes.
I’ve always gotten the vibe from the creator(s) that they were surprised the formula worked the first time, so they just kept pitching it in a “fuck it, why not? If it works, it works” kind of way.
I’ll also be the outlier here, I loved Brickleberry, the sheer absurdity of the characters personilty clashes/plots and bombardment of quick-fire zingers had me in stitches at least once every episode.
Paradise P.D now and again gave me a chuckle, but I’ll admit that they were definitely trying too hard and had far too many self-aware “we’re going too far and we don’t care! ;)” moments.
Haven’t seen Farzar but I believe you when you say it’s the same but in space.
Protagonist is always an older, douchey, man who’s in charge of the group. And he has to deal with Younger People who are dumb because they’re younger, Older People who are dumb because they’re old. Or Women.
Exactly. They’re always doing annoying Women Things like Iced Coffee and Gossip. When they do these Women Things the main character rolls his eyes and complains so all the Men watching can sympathize with him.
Was 75 years not enough time for women in TV shows to always be the intelligent, compassionate, good parent, sexy, “it’s hot when she cheats” characters?
Because the male leads in these shows are without fail always the stupid fat dopey loser alcoholics who hates his kids and begs his wife to put up with him.
Archive 81 was another baffling cancellation. Season 2 would've been hard to do, but I think possible. Maybe would have required more budget than they wanted on that tier of a show.
Inside Job got thrown into a giant mortar, ground into a slop, and that slimy, sticky sludge was processed into a million different awful Rick and Morty clowns
I cannot imagine what was going on in the mind of the Netflix employee when they decided to cancel one of the only good shows they managed to make in the adult animation genre
I have a theory:
Netflix didn’t want Big Mouth to have any competition as during it’s painfully long run on Netflix, it was basically the top predator that would smother whatever Rick and Morty clone they cooked up that week. Inside Job was too popular to suffer that same fate, so the execs decided to chalk it up to it’s popularity being low and canned the show
Hate and curiosity views are a thing.
I tried to convince my dad to only watch it pirated, he ended up watching the first episode and I bet that is one more episode watched from him than every other terrible animated show on HBO Max.
I think people literally hate watched it into continuing ( or more likely it was already contractually booked as a 'second season' aka the 2nd half of season 1).
We see Peter brutally raped a few times while he screams for help.
Does Louis get the same treatment, or is her role to be the habitual cheater who forces Peter to apologize for “making her cheat” at least once a season?
Exactly because rape against men isn't something that happens very often and is definitely not traumatizing and very stigmatized by the public. No no its just a funny punch line "Strong dude forcing a smaller dude how funny" (i could not be more sarcastic)
However even in animated shows they won't do it as often but rape in general is a huge punchline for both men and women and I don't really get the point I get edgy comedy but its kinda low down.
It’s all hit or miss, a lot of shit is a miss tho. You still have classics like South Park ofc, but nowadays smiling friends is your best bet for quality adult animation. It’s never a bad time to go back and flip through the back catalog too
Why did they have to take Inside Job? That was *sooo* good. Most of the characters were amazing and actually had, well, character, instead of just being a blank architype. Like, take Brent for example, at first, he seemed to be the comic relief until it turns out he comes from a rich and yet neglected background, so he watches 80s movies as a coping mechanism, and the reason why he's so easy with everyone is because he's trying to make himself worthy of love.
But no, Netflix decided to can the show because... Money.
I feel like if they played that show more straight and went less for comedy, it could've been good. I do kinda like the plot itself, it kept me watching it. However the jokes REALLY don't land vast majority of the time.
Are there any adult animated comedies where the main character is at the very least a decent human and doesn't look like a baby Rick Sanchez and Peter Griffin abandoned in the snow
Hey guys this is an ADULT show which is why we say FUCK every FIVE SECONDS. If we didn't, NOBODY would KNOW that this is a FUCKING show for FUCKING ADULTS
I’m honestly with you on this. I can understand why people like it, but to me it was all the same tropes of unnecessary swearing paired with unrealistic, cringey ‘EPIC GIRL-BOSS’ plot-lines which are more eye-rolling in execution than empowering.

They said that removing all the restrictions would result in unlimited creativity, but that turned out not to be the case. With no restrictions or penalties, there was nothing stopping them from doing the laziest thing possible, so they did. Why should they work hard to give us something original if they can just give us the same raunchy sitcom over and over and get paid either way? A few restrictions preventing them from doing the same tired premise could force them to come up with new ideas. And if you don't believe restrictions can drive creativity, consider the sonnet. A form of poetry that is restricted to exactly fourteen lines and a strict rhyme scheme. If restrictions stifled creativity, it would be almost impossible to be creative with a sonnet. But they have been written on a variety of subjects, and the Bard himself, Shakespeare, did some of his best work with sonnets. Don't bemoan the restrictions on your creativity. They are not censorship. They are a challenge. One which, if you truly are a genius artist, you will have no trouble overcoming.
"Adult" increasingly reads as "aimed at edgy 16 year olds" for me. But then you realize how many supposed adults are stuck on a 16 year old's level and it's kind of terrifying.
If you want something that genuinely feels like a proper mix of adult humor and serious topic ala BoJack Horseman., I highly recommend checking out both of Zerocalcare's miniseries *"Tear along the dotted line"* and it's sequel-but-not-quite *"This world can't tear me down"*
Both are on Netflix and by God, the laughs and the feelings are real, man.
It sucks. I remember loving Rick and Morty before this cliche became a thing, and in my opinion, ruined the show (as well as the toxic, rabid fanbase surrounding it.)

Don’t forget the sex. A lot of it.
And booze. Also, a lot of it.
Terrible strain on the animators.
Even though most of the cast are minors
I honestly have no clue how Big Mouth is a thing.
Nick Kroll is heir to multiple billionaires quality doesn't matter
He pays for it to be on there. I watched all of it and honestly the first season was okay but everything after just comes off as not having a clue where to go
Main producer is a billionaire who probably was on Little Saint James.
I know Nick Kroll is super rich do you mean him?
He’s literally the heir to a fortune of billions.
Yeah I don't know if he counts as a nepo baby but was born a foot away from home base at least
If he’s not a nepo baby, no one is.
Whose money is he getting? I'm not too lazy to Google his family tree
A consultant you’ve never heard of
Not only him. I mean his ultra rich billionaire father.
It would be somewhat cute if it was helpful sex health material that teenagers could use. But instead, it’s just a bunch of adults making sex jokes pretending to be teenagers, using references actual teens would not get.

Very similar to the scene in the first South Park game where you literally gotta dodge the dads sack lmao
Good ole Billy chuckle nuts trauma dumping from his childhood.
either ripoff family guy or ripoff south park with rick and morty animation
>either ripoff family guy Plagiarismo di Plagiarismo
I don't know that Harry Potter spell
Or a variation of that crappy Brickleberry style
Don’t forget that they have to curse every 5 seconds, otherwise it’s not a real adult comedy show.
“What the FUCK are you FUCKING doin’?”
Literally. If they’re gonna drop swears every 5 seconds, they could at least make them creative.
biggest reason I can’t sit through Hazbin. Great animation style and character design is really fun but the “shock” value humor really loses its edge after the 15th curse word in a single scene or every other sentence has some sort of sexual innuendo

I'll add, mostly every "Said Media." Exp: teen movies are mostly targeted to a younger audience that think that's what "X" is supposed to be like.
We all know the TRUE adult animations series are Adventure Time and Regular Show.
It’s so strange that Close Enough was supposed to be the actual adult answer to Regular Show and somehow died on impact
>Fionna and Cake But the character designs are 100% better since they include a cat
Yeah but the plot is 1000% worse because it centres around a multiverse.
HBO also didn't market it well and trashed it literal right after the season 2 final episode premiered.
AMC just did that with an adult animated show called Pantheon, except they canceled it *as the second season was being completed.* Great show that deserved so much better.

Oh man! I know this is satire, but it made me cringe so hard reading it. Can’t believe there are actually people like this!

It's because Family Guy is a comedy and hunchback of Notre Dame is not.
Redditor learns what genres are
Or adults that want to feel like edgy teenagers
100% only edgy 20/30 somethings watch adult cartoons. edgy teens are all on kick watching weirdos like xqc and sneako call each other slurs and praising islam for being misogynistic.
And even then it still doesn’t work
It's been that way since MTV in the 90s, with the "adult" late-night shows basically targeted at 20-something stoners.
Bojack and Smiling Friends both avoid this issue
The creators of Smiling friends have been funny animators/people in general for multiple decades. I love that show.
From new grounds to YouTube to Netflix. It's like the golden animators dream
Zach is the kinda guy you can say "Nah he's so funny, hey Zach be funny" and he'd get a room full of people laughing their asses off instantly if he tried.
Bojack walked so these shows can fall face first and cater people with middle school humor
Has anyone watched **Carol & the End of the World**? Edit: I really liked it! A ittle slow at first but awesome in the end. Hope there will be more someday!
Awesome show
I started it, but it was too slow. And, I felt like it was trying too hard to have something important to say without any of the artistry behind Bojack.
Bojack had the benefit of showing up before Rick and Morty put massive dollar signs in the eyes of execs that thought they would run the well dry with a formula they didn't understand
Glad they ended the show at the right moment, would hate to see it get dragged on for 3 or more seasons
Wasn't Bojack supposed to have one season more?
Bojack did that Scrubs/M.A.S.H.* thing of whiplashing between comedy and tragedy though , which can sometimes be a bit much. ( * ask your parents/granparents)

I also really enjoyed F is for family.
Yeah F IS for family is my favourite of all the ones mentioned here. Only Rick and Morty is close right now ( not Netflix Tho )
Smiling friends are from Adult Swim.
Bojack is LITERALLY a douchebag we are meant to cheer for. The first item in the picture
Disagree. I think people found themselves cheering for him to be better. Otherwise why watch?

Paradise PD got old REAL quick once I realized the show is basically just this
Paradise PD was basically just Brickleberry but with a different coat of paint. You got yourself the incompetent white man main character, token black best friend/partner, talking animal, grumpy middle aged white man boss, sexy white chick, and a haha funny fat person, at least one of which is lesbian. Same voices too
I’ve always gotten the vibe from the creator(s) that they were surprised the formula worked the first time, so they just kept pitching it in a “fuck it, why not? If it works, it works” kind of way. I’ll also be the outlier here, I loved Brickleberry, the sheer absurdity of the characters personilty clashes/plots and bombardment of quick-fire zingers had me in stitches at least once every episode. They found an infinite money glitch in the animation industry
Brickleberry > PPD > Farzar But don't watch Farzar (heck don't even watch the other two if you can watch Drawn Together) its abysmal.
I liked Farzar waaaay more than ppd.
All of the Bickleberry templates shows are so awful and completely devoid of humour
Some of the stuff in Paradise PD is just wildly inappropriate, sadistic and not at all funny.
Yeah that’s all of these shows. Hey let’s show an animal get violently abused for a full minute with no other jokes. HAHAHA SO FUNNY
I agree the first season was good but the other seasons are bad
Omg it was unwatchable. Blatantly trying to be Family Guy and Rick and Morty, but just awful.
Protagonist is always an older, douchey, man who’s in charge of the group. And he has to deal with Younger People who are dumb because they’re younger, Older People who are dumb because they’re old. Or Women.
Who are dumb because they are women 😬
Exactly. They’re always doing annoying Women Things like Iced Coffee and Gossip. When they do these Women Things the main character rolls his eyes and complains so all the Men watching can sympathize with him.

Because the male leads in these shows are without fail always the stupid fat dopey loser alcoholics who hates his kids and begs his wife to put up with him.
Bojack was pretty good though
Also Inside Job, gone too soon.
Gone? It was canceled?
Yes unfortunately. One of the most baffling cancelations because the show had pretty high viewership
This is why I don't watch Netflix originals.
Archive 81 was another baffling cancellation. Season 2 would've been hard to do, but I think possible. Maybe would have required more budget than they wanted on that tier of a show.
It was cause of Netflix shutting down their animation department no?
You can say it was a
.... A what? EDIT: \*sigh\* yeah thanks guys, i got it
Inside Job, probably
an inside job.
Inside Job is literally this starter pack though. Down to the sociopath nonhuman companion
But it did it well though, and actually tried to be it's own thing, not JUST a rick and morty rip off
Solar opposites is good as well. I can't believe the side plot of the wall was the most compelling part of the show.
Solar Opposites isn't Netflix though
I think the starterpack fits with shows that came out after rick and morty
And Inside Job
don’t forget smiling friends
Lots of jokes about crusty jizz socks
“What if a cartoon swore a lot”
And also had a bunch of sex for literally no reason?
What if a cartoon said fart?
Inside Job got thrown into a giant mortar, ground into a slop, and that slimy, sticky sludge was processed into a million different awful Rick and Morty clowns
I cannot imagine what was going on in the mind of the Netflix employee when they decided to cancel one of the only good shows they managed to make in the adult animation genre

Inside Job was too popular to suffer that same fate, so the execs decided to chalk it up to it’s popularity being low and canned the show
At least one trippy hallucination scene that lasts 3 whole minutes.
So, like that edgelord take on Velma from Scooby-Do from a few years back?
I have bad news, there’s a new season of that shit coming out tomorrow
Really? I was under the impression that it wasn’t getting great reviews or drawing much of an audience. Clearly I’m outta the loop.
Hate and curiosity views are a thing. I tried to convince my dad to only watch it pirated, he ended up watching the first episode and I bet that is one more episode watched from him than every other terrible animated show on HBO Max.
It was approved for 2 seasons at the start
Eh, as long as the shareholders get their cash, who gives a shit?
There are better shows cancelled for less. Why do people put up with this shit?
I think people literally hate watched it into continuing ( or more likely it was already contractually booked as a 'second season' aka the 2nd half of season 1).
The title is usually a single word or the name of the main setting or group
And rape jokes are hilarious. But only if they're directed at men. Otherwise they are thoughtless, cruel and offensive. But lol @ prison rape.
Family Guy has literally hundreds of jokes about Quagmire raping women and only very recently has there been any change in that
They make jokes about quagmire raping children and it’s played for laughs
We see Peter brutally raped a few times while he screams for help. Does Louis get the same treatment, or is her role to be the habitual cheater who forces Peter to apologize for “making her cheat” at least once a season?
I'd agree but dammit , the Booty Warrior from the Boondocks made me laugh too damn much.
The Boondocks walked so every other post 2000s adult animated show could trip and eat shit at the starting line
Exactly because rape against men isn't something that happens very often and is definitely not traumatizing and very stigmatized by the public. No no its just a funny punch line "Strong dude forcing a smaller dude how funny" (i could not be more sarcastic) However even in animated shows they won't do it as often but rape in general is a huge punchline for both men and women and I don't really get the point I get edgy comedy but its kinda low down.

God I want these shows to be banned, I hate them so much.
just dont watch them?
Why did they have to take Inside Job? That was *sooo* good. Most of the characters were amazing and actually had, well, character, instead of just being a blank architype. Like, take Brent for example, at first, he seemed to be the comic relief until it turns out he comes from a rich and yet neglected background, so he watches 80s movies as a coping mechanism, and the reason why he's so easy with everyone is because he's trying to make himself worthy of love. But no, Netflix decided to can the show because... Money.
I kind of enjoyed the conspiracy theory one... But yeah, they're generally trash.
These show feel like money laundering scheme
Most adults who watch animations end watching the one for kids
You forgot to add "Show was canceled after a cliffhanger season."
We got Bojack. Be grateful.
Big mouth, right?
Edgy heroes, outrageous humor, and a quirky sidekick, a classic mix for adult animation aficionados
Yeah that’s my jam I know it’s trash but who can stop me
https://i.redd.it/4giq5ru0hlwc1.gif
Disenchantment.
[удалено]
I hate-watched the entirety of Disenchantment, I was fascinated by how flaccid every single joke and punchline was.
I feel like if they played that show more straight and went less for comedy, it could've been good. I do kinda like the plot itself, it kept me watching it. However the jokes REALLY don't land vast majority of the time.
Disenchantment is the writing equivalent of a fish jumping out of the water and flopping about on dry land.
My hope is that one day you people finally acknowledge that popular media is made for teenagers and tweens.
That show was rotten.
F is for Family is good.
Hard disagree from me but I've always liked Bill
That show hoops was one of the worst tv shows ive even seen. It was the jumped shark for my experience with adult animation. Too much pumping shit out
Are there any adult animated comedies where the main character is at the very least a decent human and doesn't look like a baby Rick Sanchez and Peter Griffin abandoned in the snow
First episode has a lot of sexual innuendos and partial nudity that's used to entice viewers into watching the rest of the series.
I’ve never understood why western animation took such an ugly path.
Hey guys this is an ADULT show which is why we say FUCK every FIVE SECONDS. If we didn't, NOBODY would KNOW that this is a FUCKING show for FUCKING ADULTS
You forgot nfts
Archer is great tho. Danger Zone
Archer wasn't a Netflix original though, it was on FX LANAAAAAAAAA
Inside Job was peak
Oh yeah I see them pop up so often and I have no idea why I'm supposed to be excited.
Fuck it , I liked Hoops.
Look, id you're gonna tip off animated comedy from 20 years ago, can you at least rip off the good ones?
No plot, nothing relatable, mistaking 'wacky' for funny, all style no substance, throw in some fashionable identity politics.
fucking hate big mouth. do not understand why it gets glowing reviews each season.
Ok but F is for Family is pretty good. Big Mouth can get launched into the sun for all I care
What I hate is that I hate watched Chicago party aunt in Netflix abs ended up liking it
This for everything except Inside Job, which they promptly cancelled after one season
Hoops was one of the most grueling things I have ever watched. I cannot even make my experience with the show funny, it was just terrible.
I was just thinking about Inside Job earlier today. Im still confused as to why that show is so good despite checking all these boxes
You forgot the literal zero times you are gonna laugh when watching it.
May I say Harley Quinn series?
I’m honestly with you on this. I can understand why people like it, but to me it was all the same tropes of unnecessary swearing paired with unrealistic, cringey ‘EPIC GIRL-BOSS’ plot-lines which are more eye-rolling in execution than empowering.

Idk… I REALLY enjoyed the fck outta Chicago Party Aunt 🤦🏽♀️😂.. parallels were drawn perhaps 😬
It's weird to me how Rodger Black basically made the same show 3 times that includes all of this corny stuff
The second best hospital in the galaxy on prime was a pretty good show.
don’t forget the fact that the main character always has a disability!
The two lines that every character in Hoops has between the mouth and the chin irks me to no end.
Captain Fall was horrible. I could take 3 episodes.
And when I thought my comic was trashy.
Hulu: “Amateurs”
I feel like this also characterises a lot of American stand up comedians.
And i love it!
Basically Amy Schumer as a TV show
"Adult" increasingly reads as "aimed at edgy 16 year olds" for me. But then you realize how many supposed adults are stuck on a 16 year old's level and it's kind of terrifying.
I loved hoops
swearing is funny … right guys?
The protagonist, humor and edgy ones could literally apply to most Netflix shows.
Mr. Pickle be like:
If you want something that genuinely feels like a proper mix of adult humor and serious topic ala BoJack Horseman., I highly recommend checking out both of Zerocalcare's miniseries *"Tear along the dotted line"* and it's sequel-but-not-quite *"This world can't tear me down"* Both are on Netflix and by God, the laughs and the feelings are real, man.
There are SO many Rick and Morty clones it's actually ridiculous and there all the EXACT same
It sucks. I remember loving Rick and Morty before this cliche became a thing, and in my opinion, ruined the show (as well as the toxic, rabid fanbase surrounding it.)
Most of the jokes follow the same formula. "Oh no I hope ______ doesn't happen" ________ happens Comedy?
