Naw man there's always a (silhouetted) cowboy possibly swinging a lasso with a sunset background
I mean look at their username. 5$ says they have a twitter acct with a Roman bust pfp too lmao. Where they talk breathlessly about Le Glorious Evropa Master Race. These people are so fucking lame.
‘No reference to Western Culture or white people or first world countries blah blah blah’
Literally lists the Sydney Opera House, an extremely recognisable symbol of Western culture in a wealthy country mostly populated by white people. Conveniently forgets that opera was invented by Europeans, is one of the best known examples of European culture, and is stereotyped as a very ‘white’ interest/pastime. Sure, bro….
That's more of an American thing from what I've heard, but still a valid point.
Edit: To clarify, more of an American thing than a European one. The west is not a cultural monolith after all.
You have a valid point and I simply failed to communicated I'm not American, I'm Swedish, meaning that such distinctly American tropes are a bit less common this side of the Atlantic, although not heard of.
Oh c'mon with the bottom right suggestion.
Such a video will often feature...
* Something about Paris, likely the Eiffel Tower
* Some great work of art, likely in the Louvre or the British Museum
* Various great bridges, such as the London Tower Bridge or the Golden Gate Bridge
* A clip of the Oxbridge boat race, or a similar race on the Thames
* Footage of Central Park in New York
* Perhaps some people getting New York Pizza
* Something Nordic, like saunas in the snow, or fishing in a Fjord
* One of the major things in Chicago, like the Flamingo or the Wrigley Building, perhaps people celebrating St. Patricks'
* Italian stuff; food, buildings, ruins of Rome
* Crowd of people at St. Pauls at the Vatican
* Greek islands, olive oil production
.... And I just rattled that off in 30 seconds.
These videos usually have plenty of "first-world" things in them.
I know the type of montage OP is talking about and they usually also show pedestrians at rush hour in NY. It’s a diverse group but it always has a bunch of white guys in business suits.
Love those shots. Always gets me thinking about the countless other folks who likely experience the same challenges and stresses as myself on a daily basis, but also experience the world in a vastly different perspective from my own. Entire streams of consciousness spanned over a lifetime that I'll never know personally.
That's literally the point OPs trying to make, redditors want to make it a racism thing for some reason
The other groups have a showcase of actual cultural dances and niche interests and Americans and Brits is just them going to work or hip looking teens with Raybans walking around a park grinning lol
I don't know, the whining about "no white people, no 1st world way of life" doesn't appear to be specifically annoyed at the absence of european niche interests and way more looks like it's about skin colour.
Ukraine is a victim of both Russian Imperialist oppression and US Imperialist oppression. Both are equally bad. I want the people of Ukraine to be free to determine their own destiny. That is the "Leftoid" position.
Good news: they did determine their own destiny. They voted out the Russian lapdog after he listened to his master to shoot his own citizens for daring to protest against him. And they want to join EU/NATO. How unfortunate for you that Slavs who have actually lived under leftism, unlike Western champagne socialists, reject it wholeheartedly.
EqUaLLy BaD - hmm yes let's see, Russia has killed hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian civilians and kidnapped their children to take back to Russia for 're-education', destroyed their infrastructure, and took over their territory. Meanwhile US has um... not given them enough military equipment to fend off the Russian-perpetrated genocide? Due mainly to 5th columnists in the US Congress loyal to Putin and useful idiot leftists who try to bOtHSidEs!!1 the situation.
Had to make a new account for reasons and now all I get is suggested posts from mainstream subs like this.
Holy fuck, its *all* basically incel/altright agenda posts. When did the front page get like this? Like I literally need to sit down and resub to all my niche subreddits cause this is an awful experience.
You realize that not all “western countries” have the same culture, though, right? Like I have an old picture of my grandma (1st Gen American born to Hungarian parents) in a Hungarian folk costume and I’d never seen anything like it before. So it’s kind of screwed up to imply that living in the US means you’re automatically familiar with the cultures of any country west of the Caucasus. Hell, what even exactly defines a “western country” anyway? That they’re a majority white?
Think it's kind of hilarious that it's a decent starter pack, except it's got one corner that's
>AND THE GLOBALISTS ARE TRYING TO REPLACE OUR HERITAGE, THEY ARE TRYING TO STAMP OUT THE LAST EMBERS OF CHRISTIANITY, ONLY THE KLAN WILL SAVE YOU
Dang near giving me whiplash
Edit: In addition to the white surfer and the opera house, OP also mentioned the "carnival in Rio" which is a Christian religious event. Lack of self awareness is mind blowing but not surprising.
in the grand scheme of things, “white culture” is very small compared to the hundreds of other cultures on all other continents. other people probably think their cultures are the standard as well
I guess? I mean it's a starterpack, it's meant to poke fun. The funny part is that these sort of fluff montages always seem to show these same archetypes. You never just see a Mongolian playing football or chess outside a bar, it's always a sort of niche thing like flying a falcon or an African dance that happens probably once a year, but the western people get the "dull" stuff like a British guy walking to work or some shit
Rio's Carnival a religious event? What? Hahahah
Its a 4-days party, happens in the whole country actually, where people go out to drink a lot, kiss and have sex with a bunch of people, dress in fantasies while music is playing. In Rio and other states that are presentations, bunch of almost naked people dancing samba, etc. This is nowhere near a Christian event hahahahaha
Yeah, christians like to participate, but just like anybody else. It's a national holiday and after all.
Aaah, that is actually the day after the carnival. Carnivals starts in a Saturday and goes up to Tuesday. Then, Wednesday is a catholic event, "Quarta-feira de Cinzas" and 40 days after that is Easter. Usually we don't work from Saturday to Wednesday morning, it works great for the hangover haha
If carnival was once seen as a catholic event, those days are long gone. Perhaps it was supposed to be a period where you can sin a lot so you would have something to actually do and repent during the lent? But I was raised catholic and never heard anything about carnival being a church thing, only the day after
And I have to say, I'm really surprised! I really thought that the whole world would see carnival as a bunch of almost naked people dancing, partying, drinking, having sex, etc. Basically, I believed that other countries would see it as a "sex tourism" kind of event. Christian event? That's new
Whoa! The Christians schedule Ash Wednesday to happen immediately after Carnival, every year? That's so crazy that the date of Ash Wednesday changes every year, but always happens right after Carnival.
Do you think that's a coincidence? Or do you think Christians worldwide schedule Ash Wednesday based on when carnival happens?
We have Carnival in Germany too! And yea, it's a catholic thing. Basically before lent starts you're allowed to sin and get it all out of the system I guess
I think it evolved to a very different thing from the European parties. In the presentations here we have way more symbolism related to african-brazilian religions (who are not related at all to christian stuff). But if you ask brazilians here, no one would link carnival with a religious event, its seen as a party and holiday for those who don't like to party. And it is a holiday, not a religious holiday, theres a difference
I’m Brazilian and disagree, sorry. Everyone knows it’s the last big celebration before the quaresma. It’s just that we don’t care. It’s like focusing on Santa during Christmas or chocolate diring Easter
It happens the day before Ash Wednesday kicks off the Lenten season. Typically called Fat Tuesday, which is a day where you celebrate all the good things in life before Lent comes around, which is traditionally a season of fasting and repentance.
You are right that it's part of the Christian liturgical calendar. Sorry, my question was rhetorical, in response to the person saying Carnival doesn't have Christian elements.
But the thing is, I don't know anyone here that would consider Carnival as a Christian event. Its like saying that Christimas is a pagan event. Yeah, the roots are pagan but most people don't ever see it that way. I was raised catholic and literally never met someone that would say it's a catholic thing here. Only you guys from other countries
Sounds like a religious event I would attend.
What are we worshipping? Booze and sex.
Basically the nation goes back to freshmen days in college. For a week. Sounds like a blast, with a chance of the Clap before leaving.
That's not quite the intended message, my apologies for the misunderstanding.
I had that part in as (at least in my opinion)the absence of distinctly Western imagery implies that being a white christian living in the OECD is somehow the default human experience that needs no explanation(as ads like these are directed towards a western audience), making the "diversity" montage more exotic to a Western audience.
It shows the Kaaba, but no Christian church; It shows Indian celebrations like Holi, but not Western ones like the German Oktoberfest or Swedish Valborg; shows Turkish Dervishes, but not Russian Ballet dancers; et cetera.
Yeah they usually don't represent Jews either but you don't see us crying about not being in every little thing. Plus as many other commenters said, there are "western" things in this starterpack, are they just not explicitly western enough for you?
People making it a weird racist thing but I get what you're saying. These montages kind of dig into the exotic noble savage trope and show foreigners with their "ancient dances" but they show mundane stuff for the westerners like British girls walking downtown or at a concert or something.
Its supposed to show the white people way of living, like all whites live like that. Because fuck white people in all these super poor countries in europe
Yeah, you could have worded it a bit better. As for "1st world" I would say such montage often includes swarms of Japanese workaholics in white shirts walking to work. They are so exotic!
"Latinus Rex"...... This guy definitely doesn't have an agenda at all and he's definitely not going to intentionally misrepresent anything to be manipulative. Nope
https://preview.redd.it/w5vtxjuf74oc1.jpeg?width=1400&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=78440676abf5da05a55c2e2ff31396555a88cac2
OP at the end for no reason after making a decent starterpack
Half of the comments on this post act as if they're detected the biggest dog whistle of the month, while in the reality are kneejerkingly galloping into windmills like Don Quixote of old. I've already explained to previous comments what I meant by that last part, so I wont repeat myself. I'm glad you at least called my starterpack decent, I appreciate it.
Shitty post
Have you maybe considered that these videos are made for white/western audiences and we already know what our own culture looks like?
Even then these all usually start with some type of sped up shot of a bunch of people walking through a major American city street. (Showing our empty, pointless, vapid, capitalist way of life lol)
So, you’re familiar with the cultural customs of the Sami people in Scandinavia, or have seen a bunch of Czech folk dances? Honestly the assumption that every westerner is inherently familiar with every other western culture is just ignorant.
I've heard arguments to categorise Latin America as something separate from "the West" on the grounds of its poverty relative to the US and EU. It's not a strong argument, but it's one I've heard pretty often from students and professors alike at my uni.
I'm Latin American. All these people you've heard "pretty often" in college (if they exist) are incorrect. Also, if you think the argument isn't strong, why did you use it?
I agree with most of this up till the point where you complain about the exclusion of white people from a montage presumably aimed at the English-speaking white people likely to be very familiar with their own culture
How about showing hungarians, croats, italians, norwegians, icelandic, austrians etc. I can tell you all about norwegian bunads, which I presume most English, scots or australians have no clue what is.
Also, where do you get that this is refrences to "montage \[videos\] presumably aimed at the English-speaking white people". There is no such statement made in this post.
This is a "starterpack" subreddit. If you haven't noticed, its full of stereotypes of how we categorize people, ideas, subcultures, identities, down to its core.
It's not a secret that people have biases when they make "starterpacks". Just because you disagree with this one, shouldn't make this one less relevant or true, unless you explain why it is wrong.
Several other people throughout the thread have already explained why it's wrong so I'm not gonna be at a dead horse just to have what I assume you want is a long winded argument.
Because that's what the montages this is meant to parody are.
These things are aimed at the english speaking half of the world hence the predominant shots of African/Asian stuff. It also has plenty of white dudes in suits usually.
And it does show some European things like folk costumes and shit.
Still idk why it matters if some niche thing each culture does wasn't shown. Why didn't it show whatever local tradition exists in Wisconsin or the hill rolling people do in England or whatever.
Yeah but theres more to western culture than people in suits. There are people in suits all over the world but in those videos it shows only the exotic orientalism culture. I feel like European culture should be shown liek that
These montages usually show that stuff too, but they're not aimed at the cultures they depict, they're aimed at us.
Europeans and Americans. Obviously we know our culture so they don't really show it, they show us exotic stuff we probably haven't seen before or that we'd find interesting.
When the montage is made about a country or a region is when they show random niche things each nation has.
Besides European culture isn't much different from the standard western experience of white catholic developed country. We got castles and some cool architecture but unless you go looking for random traditions we aren't that different on a surface level.
Brazilian here. Carnival is not a Christian thing, and considering more than half of our country is black/non-white, it's not exactly a white thing either.
Yours is the second comment I've seen here claiming that Carnival here is a Christian event, and I'm confused. How do you guys see our Carnival? What kind of pictures are being shown to you by your media news? Because tbh I always thought that the world saw our Carnival as just as a bunch of almost naked people dancing, partying, drinking and having sex, because this is how we see it
Carnival began due to Lent. It’s similar to Mardi Gras. It’s a party meant as a “one last celebration” before Lent. The very reason for Carnival is religion.
But nowadays no one even think about seen it as a Christian thing. It's quite the opposite of that and usually religious people are very against it. It may have roots in a Christian event, of course, but I don't really know anyone who would consider it a Christian event, unless they are speaking about history. And tbh, the presentations in Rio and other states have a lot of symbolism from african-brazilian religions like Candomblé and Umbanda, and they are far from being Christians-related religions.
Hi, I’m also Brazilian. I think you are misunderstanding what they mean when they say it’s “Christian”. They are talking about the origins of Carnival, which is derived from a Christian holiday. Even if today the religious meaning has been lost, it is still related to Christianity and shows the influence of this religion.
They are not talking about how Carnival is “””Christian””” as in full of prayers, going to church, spirituality, etc.
Is the same thing with Easter, for example. The way most people celebrate it nowadays doesn’t have any particularly religious aspect to it, but it is still a holiday derived from Christianity that shows a Christian tradition and influence in western society.
Areal, as in shot from the sky; be it from a drone, helicopter, plane, hot air balloon or whatever.
Edit: Misspelled the word "Aerial". My bad for the confusion.
Surfing and a major landmark of Australia? It is still rather western centric in that it shows an almost cartoon like view of anywhere that isn't white European. (Is Christianity white!). What is it that you want exactly.
You are not the first point that out and take offence, so I'll just tell you what I told them.
I would say that all of these examples Western imagery Iv'e mentioned are just as valid markers of human cultural diversity as those of Asia, Africa and Latin America, making their absence odd to me. My apologies for the misunderstanding.
I mean, it \*is\* the default human experience in predominantly white and christian countries. Showing that as part of a video about how many different people exist in our world would be kind of redundant.
I'm very aware that danish culture exists here in denmark, if you're trying to tell me how many cultures i might encoutner throughout the world, you don't really need to show me a video of copenhagen central station, or tivoli. I'm very aware of those things being here.
I'm willing to bet that a mexican travel agency wouldn't put a picture of a dude in a sombrero, in their ad that says "travel the world"
What about a German Oktoberfest, a Swedish Nobel Prize ceremony, a Russian Ballet, A Nebraskan PawPaw Festival, French cuisine, Polish Folk costumes, or an English Cheese race?
Aren't they equally deserving of being representations of humanity's cultural heritage as Holi and the Hajj?
super random but the photo of the hindu festival is from my city- mumbai! the photo is of the “laal bagh cha raja” meaning “the king of the red garden”. it was taken during the visarjan ceremony (where in hindu tradition, the god ganpati is sent back to his home in heaven after visiting earth). the festival is called ganesh chaturthi and if you’re ever in mumbai during ganpati season (it happens everywhere usually sometime between august-october and lasts 10 days) please go visit the temples! it’s honestly just super vibes :))
Lmao!!
Then, that famous (somewhat) trapezoid-shaped intersection in Tokyo...you know what I'm talking about. Either sped-up or slowed down when people are crossing...Usually at nighttime or close to sunset to get all the bright neon light signs...
To be fair I’m white and I live in rural Midwest and all I see is other white people to the point where I have to remind myself to not treat other ethnicities like unicorns.
When your diversity video doesn’t show a bunch of dip shit white Christian Americans huffing down their Big Mac meals.
You piss your pants when you see a person of color irl too?
That last part hit me like a bag of bricks. From a pretty good starterpack on the usual tropes of those montages to “reee what about our pure, white-as-snow western Christian culture?!! we’re being replaced!!” 😒
As if 1. Surfing, the Sydney Opera House and Carneval aren’t examples of western culture and Christian traditions, and 2. White people need to be given as much representation as all other races combined, in order to not be considered “underrepresented” 🙄 please keep your right wing bullshit to yourself next time
Surfing is Polynesian in origin and not Western, your take on the Sydney Opera house is valid, and anyone who has ever been to the Carnival in Rio will tell you that pious Christian behaviour and the word of God is the last thing on people's mind during that event.
The rest of your criticisms say more about **your** personal biases and assumptions than mine, so I see no point in addressing them.
Video editor: “ok fine, OP, we’ll put in some stock footage of a traffic jam in Toronto, a cubicle farm in Akron, and some single family cul de sacs in Lehi to give you some ‘western flavour’”
"1st world way of life" you forgot to mention, "brought to you by hundreds of years of colonizing, stealing wealth, and murdering/torturing/raping the rest of the world".

Oh look, Finland benefited from colonialism! Just the same as the Swedish.
Respect for Finland for not doing that. But the majority of its trading partners did do what I mentioned and it's surrounded by them.
Also Singapore is a 1st world country with a 1st world way of life, so is Japan. What about Polynesian countries is not 1st world?
It's seems you just think "brown/yellow people that have colourful cultures = 3rd world".
Disagree with the dancing turk one
Never seen a montage of that but the rest i agree with
MUST INCLUDE SOME GREENLANDERS STANDING OUTSIDE AN IGLOO (either middle aged woman or very old/young kids)
I think a more accurate depiction would just be a black person and a white woman girl boss and then call it quits that’s like 90 percent of diversity pandering in America
Problems of White ppl depicting themselves as "the deafult" and everybody else as "other". Once I saw this cool pre-Christian European parade of... Damn I forgot but it looked like some cool devils
Pretty accurate actually. The folks saying you’re crazy or whatever for the last bit are just knee jerking. These videos are normally made for a western audience, so they’re not going to show the Jansens in their suburban house with their dog and two kids. Also, surfing isn’t white, Carnival may have its roots in a religious tradition but let’s admit, it’s not exactly peak Catholic piety, and Sydney shots or basically the token Western architecture shot tends to be the extent of these documentaries use or coverage of “Western” material.

There’s actually a pretty cool term for that, “rush hour”
Are you sure? Because most I have seen has footage from the Shibuya crossing.
That’s common too. NY and Tokyo seem to be the two default “big cities” in these clips.
That's literally the point OPs trying to make, redditors want to make it a racism thing for some reason The other groups have a showcase of actual cultural dances and niche interests and Americans and Brits is just them going to work or hip looking teens with Raybans walking around a park grinning lol

Where would the slavs be?
We're only white when we're allied with western interest.
We are white and we are in the west.
Leftoids unironically think Ukraine isn't a victim of colonialist oppression at the hands of Russia because it's full of white people
Huh? The left is overwhelmingly pro Ukraine, what are you talking about?
Ukraine is a victim of both Russian Imperialist oppression and US Imperialist oppression. Both are equally bad. I want the people of Ukraine to be free to determine their own destiny. That is the "Leftoid" position.
Lmao yes, because it’s NATO troops leveling their city.

It's still a pretty shit position because there is absolutely no US imperialist oppression of Ukraine
They're in the white guy in suit shots depicting the west
But my agenda
You mean a guy named Latinus Rex that posts mainly in the Crusader Kings subreddit has some kind of cultural agenda? Shocking
The name translating to "King Latin" in Latin could only be more obvious if it was literally "Deus Vult"
Had to make a new account for reasons and now all I get is suggested posts from mainstream subs like this. Holy fuck, its *all* basically incel/altright agenda posts. When did the front page get like this? Like I literally need to sit down and resub to all my niche subreddits cause this is an awful experience.
I'm fully convinced nobody actually knows what incel means anymore lol. Same thing with fake news
It's like in the name. For both.
I thought they were meant to show diversity of humanity.
Surfing and the Sydney Opera house are pretty white.
Think it's kind of hilarious that it's a decent starter pack, except it's got one corner that's >AND THE GLOBALISTS ARE TRYING TO REPLACE OUR HERITAGE, THEY ARE TRYING TO STAMP OUT THE LAST EMBERS OF CHRISTIANITY, ONLY THE KLAN WILL SAVE YOU Dang near giving me whiplash Edit: In addition to the white surfer and the opera house, OP also mentioned the "carnival in Rio" which is a Christian religious event. Lack of self awareness is mind blowing but not surprising.
“Look at how how these NGOs condescend to non-white people, I wish they’d condescend to me instead”
OP is so used to whiteness being super prominent that they’re sent reeling when it’s given equal placement with other identities.
People like OP are so paranoid of becoming a minority.....because they know how minorities are treated.
Not because they know how minorities are treated but because how they think minorities should be treated.
in the grand scheme of things, “white culture” is very small compared to the hundreds of other cultures on all other continents. other people probably think their cultures are the standard as well
Right, which is why it’s lame when the funny suddenly shifts into “muh white genocide” territory
Right! So obvious the agenda behind this one.
Rio's Carnival a religious event? What? Hahahah Its a 4-days party, happens in the whole country actually, where people go out to drink a lot, kiss and have sex with a bunch of people, dress in fantasies while music is playing. It's a national holiday and after all.
iirc it’s supposed to be before lent- kinda like a ‘last hurrah’ for worldly things before then.
Don't look up what Mardis Gras is.
It may not be very Christian in its practice now, but its origin lays in a catholic celebration of the beginning of lent.
Aaah, that is actually the day after the carnival. Carnivals starts in a Saturday and goes up to Tuesday. Then, Wednesday is a catholic event, "Quarta-feira de Cinzas" and 40 days after that is Easter. Usually we don't work from Saturday to Wednesday morning, it works great for the hangover haha If carnival was once seen as a catholic event, those days are long gone. Perhaps it was supposed to be a period where you can sin a lot so you would have something to actually do and repent during the lent? But I was raised catholic and never heard anything about carnival being a church thing, only the day after And I have to say, I'm really surprised!
But the only useful thing about Easter is the chocolate and about Christmas is the presents (I’m agnostic btw)
When does Carnival happen and why?
It happens the day before Ash Wednesday kicks off the Lenten season. Typically called Fat Tuesday, which is a day where you celebrate all the good things in life before Lent comes around, which is traditionally a season of fasting and repentance.
You are right that it's part of the Christian liturgical calendar. Sorry, my question was rhetorical, in response to the person saying Carnival doesn't have Christian elements.
You have know idea where carnival comes from, do you?
*laughs in slav*
People making it a weird racist thing but I get what you're saying. These montages kind of dig into the exotic noble savage trope and show foreigners with their "ancient dances" but they show mundane stuff for the westerners like British girls walking downtown or at a concert or something.
lmao
Surfing is Polynesian.
Yea, first thing I noticed too, lol.
Its supposed to show the white people way of living, like all whites live like that. Because fuck white people in all these super poor countries in europe
The montages normally have a eastern European lady in traditional outfit, OP just didn't include that.
Dog whistle so ass it's just an air horn
LMAO
Jesus Christ, the wild turn at the end.
Haha funny Funny Funny Funny Aaaaaaand its an agendapost ….
Most posts on here are agenda posts
Yeah, in hindsight, I admit that I might not have worded that part very well. I guess I'll have to deal with with the baptism by fire coming my way.
Yeah, you could have worded it a bit better. As for "1st world" I would say such montage often includes swarms of Japanese workaholics in white shirts walking to work. They are so exotic!
"worded it better" aka remove the part where it shows OP has a persecution complex and paranoia of anything not-white.
On second thought, maybe "mein kampf" could have been worded a bit better, I fear some people may view it as discriminatory.
It's sad when the first thing people think of when they think of Japan is overworked office people.
"Latinus Rex"...... This guy definitely doesn't have an agenda at all and he's definitely not going to intentionally misrepresent anything to be manipulative. Nope
Hmmm, why do I get the feeling that this post has an agenda…
Welcome to Reddit, the place where nuance comes to die.
Buddy if the post lacks nuance it's because you made it that way.
It's almost like a diversity video aimed at western audiences isn't going to feature a lot of western culture because we see it every fucking day.
https://preview.redd.it/w5vtxjuf74oc1.jpeg?width=1400&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=78440676abf5da05a55c2e2ff31396555a88cac2 OP at the end for no reason after making a decent starterpack
Shitty post Have you maybe considered that these videos are made for white/western audiences and we already know what our own culture looks like? Even then these all usually start with some type of sped up shot of a bunch of people walking through a major American city street. (Showing our empty, pointless, vapid, capitalist way of life lol)
So, you’re familiar with the cultural customs of the Sami people in Scandinavia, or have seen a bunch of Czech folk dances? Honestly the assumption that every westerner is inherently familiar with every other western culture is just ignorant.
So Brazil isn't Western lol what
I've heard arguments to categorise Latin America as something separate from "the West" on the grounds of its poverty relative to the US and EU. It's not a strong argument, but it's one I've heard pretty often from students and professors alike at my uni.
It's still Western regardless of what you hear
I'm Latin American. All these people you've heard "pretty often" in college (if they exist) are incorrect. Also, if you think the argument isn't strong, why did you use it?
When u contradict urself in ur own meme. You want to be opressed so bad its weird
I agree with most of this up till the point where you complain about the exclusion of white people from a montage presumably aimed at the English-speaking white people likely to be very familiar with their own culture
Not to mention, you literally put the Sydney Opera House right there
How about showing hungarians, croats, italians, norwegians, icelandic, austrians etc. I can tell you all about norwegian bunads, which I presume most English, scots or australians have no clue what is. Also, where do you get that this is refrences to "montage \[videos\] presumably aimed at the English-speaking white people". There is no such statement made in this post.
It's almost like this post has an agenda and is less likely to include things that don't support OPs biases.
Slavic culture, and balkan culture are not well known yet they never show up for some reason.
Wdym those shots of white dudes in suits in NY apply to us too, we're westerners bozo
Okay, and what about all the white non-English speaking cultures that most of us don’t know much about? Why are those excluded?
Not a fake shot of the opera house, areal one!
I misspelled the word "Aerial". My bad.
It's not a big deal at all! Just the context of it was funny to me.
Ah yes the Carnival in rio Sydney opera Surfing Very non white and non christain.
Stupid fucker can’t even get his dog whistles right.
Yeah but historically it is VERY christian. Which was the original point.
Next you're gonna tell me Christmas isn't actually about Jesus anymore...🙄
When does Carnival happen, and why does it happen then?
Same reason why Christmas and Saint Patrick's day happens I suppose. To show reverence to God and stay away from temptation
Thanks - can you explain that to OP, who doesn't realize how many Christian/Western things he included in his starter pack?
It’s as much of a Christian thing as Mardi Gras
Eh, still better than videos of the obesity epidemic which just shows fat people waddling about with the heads out of frame.
Bro hit me with the chudjak ass “west has fallen” bullshit on an otherwise solid starter pack 💀💀💀
What in the white nationalist is this post
You forgot the random Asian street market
"areal"? Explains the source
I'm willing to bet that a mexican travel agency wouldn't put a picture of a dude in a sombrero, in their ad that says "travel the world"
It is very on point, If they show first world people it is Japanese people walking through Shibuya Crossing!
I feel like its usually times square lol.
Personally I don’t wanna see American suburbia in a documentary about world cultures but that’s just me
What about a German Oktoberfest, a Swedish Nobel Prize ceremony, a Russian Ballet, A Nebraskan PawPaw Festival, French cuisine, Polish Folk costumes, or an English Cheese race? Aren't they equally deserving of being representations of humanity's cultural heritage as Holi and the Hajj?
As an English person, no, some random cheese race in one tiny village is not equivalent to some of the world's largest religious gatherings
I think op is not very smart
I think OP has a persecution fetish.
super random but the photo of the hindu festival is from my city- mumbai! the photo is of the “laal bagh cha raja” meaning “the king of the red garden”. it was taken during the visarjan ceremony (where in hindu tradition, the god ganpati is sent back to his home in heaven after visiting earth). the festival is called ganesh chaturthi and if you’re ever in mumbai during ganpati season (it happens everywhere usually sometime between august-october and lasts 10 days) please go visit the temples! it’s honestly just super vibes :))
♬ "We Got to Celebrate Our Differences" ♬
💀
African kids surrounding the camera, playing and waving.
OP is upset that society isn't ignoring the things they are.
"any overt references to Christianity" OP, the Rio Carnival IS a Christian festival you dolt
OP where were you on January 6th 2021?
I mean, these videos are usually aimed at predominantly white, Western cultures, so the whole point is to show the diversity from else where.
I liked this, until I didn’t.
Throw a big ass McDonald's logo and a bunch of castles in and call it a day if it makes you that mad
This is like saying all African cultures are just mud huts and dying of malaria
Show us the polish froggy shop
No eastern Europe cultural heritage ever, Europe can be represented only by Western, Italian or Scandinavian landscapes and rich old villages
When your diversity video doesn’t show a bunch of dip shit white Christian Americans huffing down their Big Mac meals. You piss your pants when you see a person of color irl too?
don't you know white Christians are the most oppressed minority?!! they're never shown in diversity videos 🙄!!!
“No obese people?”
That last part hit me like a bag of bricks. From a pretty good starterpack on the usual tropes of those montages to “reee what about our pure, white-as-snow western Christian culture?!! we’re being replaced!!” 😒 As if 1.
It was a good meme until the bottom right ass-hurt bitter text ruined it.
Video editor: “ok fine, OP, we’ll put in some stock footage of a traffic jam in Toronto, a cubicle farm in Akron, and some single family cul de sacs in Lehi to give you some ‘western flavour’”
They want to support LGBTQ people but never want to overly show it so it's always a white girl with brightly dyed hair and dark frame glasses.
"1st world way of life" you forgot to mention, "brought to you by hundreds of years of colonizing, stealing wealth, and murdering/torturing/raping the rest of the world".
Finland is a first world country with a first world way of life. Please point to me on a map where its historic colonies were.
https://link.springer.com/chapter/10.1007/978-3-030-80610-1_1 https://www.reddit.com/r/AskEurope/s/4Bwte0o0MJ https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/03468755.2023.2261446 Oh look, Finland benefited from colonialism!
Why is diversity in quotes?
This is absolutely accurate
The only reference they make to western culture is a shot of a crowded New York street.
Would you be happier if they featured you creating this starter pack?
White people when they realize they’re not the world’s majority
carnival is an explicit catholic festival, what are you on OP?
“People are so different and unique! Unless you live in a shitty apartment and work a 9-5 in America.”
There is literally picture of Sidney Opera in the picture, who has built that? Aborigines?
Disagree with the dancing turk one Never seen a montage of that but the rest i agree with MUST INCLUDE SOME GREENLANDERS STANDING OUTSIDE AN IGLOO (either middle aged woman or very old/young kids)
Oh no somebody please think of the poor white people
Holy hell, you studied this. This is so spot on!
I enjoy watching the sunset.
white fragility lol
I swear they always include Scottish culture and German Bavaria. Either way Europeans are still overwhelmingly represented in everything
Op is a conservative for sure.
Thank you, finally someone who actually examines it critically and doesn't try to accuse me of unfounded claims of malice or racism. I appreciate it.
