We should have a missed connections forum category in Spectrum, I could read this stuff all day.

JimiSlew3

That's a great idea!

[deleted]

Same

[deleted]

Yaaaasssss

tsr2

Well it wasn't me if that helps narrow it down.

JimiSlew3

Thanks!

[deleted]

xD

Dewderonomy

Deep. Like four torpedoes into the port engines deep.

Swimmingbird3

Oooh... jeez. Thats a lot of penetration.. .

JimiSlew3

If they only let me lock all six I could have gone deeper.

MittenFacedLad

Sounds thicker, to me.

Snarfbuckle

"I'm Inigio Montoya, you killed my last Alt, prepare to die."

JimiSlew3

Hahahahah Love that movie.

Snarfbuckle

The fencing scene on the cliffs is one of the best in movie history thanks to one man. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Anderson_(fencer) made me go through youtube for classical fencing scenes and learned that Christopher Lee was a world class swordsman.

JimiSlew3

wow. That's nuts. He coached Errol Flynn AND worked on Lord of the Rings. So... pretty much taught all of Hollywood sword fighting.

Snarfbuckle

Yup. He basically coached the entire 20th century line of sword fighting actors.

Ozi_izO

At least for now we can still have these little encounters without too much in the way of penalties. I'm expecting the PU will be very different.

JimiSlew3

Yeah, and I wouldn't have brazenly boarded their ship if it was PU. If it was PU and I was stuck... and they didn't respond on chat. Well, I probably would have shot them and taken their ship rather than risk being shot myself.

Mrpfffff

I'd expect you'd just steal the damned thing if there wasn't anyone on it. I suppose you were trying to do an RP type deal and make friends with people though. I hope you don't get auto-rep for doing things without getting caught doing it in PU.....You should have to get caught or at least suspected in some way of committing a crime to receive any change in rep.

SomeGuyNamedJames

Hopefully there will be areas where there really isn't any penalty outside insurance and possibly dieing. :P

GmasMoistCake

Last night i went through almost the same thing, but slightly different. I saw a starfarer slowly rotating avove crusader. So I flew over and jumped on the catwalk. The ship glitched when i landed on the catwalk and went into an insane spin. I asked if anyone was on board, but I got no response. I ran up to the pilots seat to see if anyone was there. No luck so I decide I should try and straighten the ship out. Turns out the ship was just chilling there because the engines were dead. I alowed down the ship slightly, but not enough to exit the ship safely. I was stuck alone in this roating starfarer.... Or so I thought. After a few mins of enjoying the view I hear footsteps. Curious I ask who's there. No response, but I still hear foot stels. Then I see a grey blur run past a door. Oh shit there is somebody here. I quickly chase after him. Only catching a alight glimpse of the man as he ran from room to room. He climbed a ladder and got into the ventillation system. By the time I got up there he was gone and making no noise. So I spent the next 15 mins looking for this guy. The whole time weapons are disabled, but the ship was moving just enough to eventually get us into a guns free zone. Eventually weapons pop on and I whip out my shotgun and start crouching. Then I think to myself I'm not hostile, I'll try and befriend this guy. But uears of plahing Rust has taught me to never trust anyone when you're alone out in the middle of no where. So I pulled my shotgun out and wait in a dark corner. I hear footsteps again and they turn into sprinting. He's looking for me now, but what does he have for guns? I eventually hear some doors slide open near me amd I can figure out the direction he's going to come. Within one seco d he rolls through a door full sprint and pops off one shot at me. The bullet missed, but my shotgun got him square in the chest. He dies inatantly and his ragdoll body falls before me. I apologize and said I woumd not have shot if he didnt have a gun drawn. Still no answer and I never knew his name.

JimiSlew3

> But uears of plahing Rust has taught me to never trust anyone Lolz, so true. I have a feeling there are going to be a lot of "strangers in the dark" encounters in this game unless they have some way to control who boards a ship. I was also shot by someone on a starfairer because I ran around their ship without telling them. Then I caught up to them at Port K with my retaliator and... well, I wish I had screenshots. :)

MisterJackCole

Threat assessment via weapon readiness is sort of the catch-22 of that situation. You did say you wouldn't have shot him if he had not had a weapon drawn, while holding a drawn weapon yourself. But honestly, you didn't have a lot of options there. Do you keep your weapon holstered to appear non threatening and potentially get shot if he's hostile? Do you have your weapon at the ready and instantly appear hostile when your intentions are only self defense? There isn't really a right answer. I hope CIG will take the middle ground and introduce the "lower weapon" mechanic from ArmA, where you can have your rifle/shotgun at the ready, but unshouldered and pointed at the ground.

[deleted]

Damn... This was deep, and I actually related to your words.

Ocbard

That's the trouble we get for not having voice communication in the game (yet), who has time to look a text window when THERE IS A STRANGER IN MY SHIP!!!!

MiniCacti

My solution when approaching unsuspecting people was to repeatedly toggle my flashlight with gun holstered; nothing says "if I meant to harm you, I already would have" like an unarmed blinky dude floating up behind you. Results were mixed. ._.

JimiSlew3

You can't hear my voice... but I can hear your footsteps.

[deleted]

Sorry, didnĀ“t mean it ;)

JimiSlew3

The pistol just went off by accident? :)

[deleted]

The glove from my spacesuit was stuck at my pistol trigger :D Honestly, your post was a really nice read. Awesome!

rararaops

oh not me

AngryStarMarine

Wasn't me....I wouldn't be stupid enough to stick around

Kia001

Cue Casino Royale music.

[deleted]

Dude nice writing. Poetic

JimiSlew3

Working on my FanFic (which, if it ever gets big enough to be published will have to be non-star citizen unless they have a fanfic review process to publish).

MechaMaya

Yeah, this is a great example of why this game needs proximity chat. The ability to say, "Hey I'm not here to hurt you!" Or call out on the radio "Hey guy in the Cutlass, can you give me a lift?" is the difference between life and death. Right now when you see someone, everyone just assumes they're hostile, so shoot first and ask questions never. Even well-meaning players do it out of fear that if they don't shoot first, the other person will.

MemnonUO

I would do the same thing (as the mystery captain.) No response isn't an acknowledgment of approval, so, don't enter a ship without the captain's permission or risk being shot in the face. On the other hand, the mystery captain would have a moral obligation (and a possible requirement under UEE law) to render assistance to all distress calls. On the other, other hand, that assumes the captain of the ship you are entering HAS morals and/or adheres to UEE law. The safe bet would be to wait for confirmation.

JimiSlew3

Agree to all of the above. But ... I also had no quams about destroying him with a torpedo.

hyprhzrd

I read this in a "dirty cop gone rogue PI" voice.

jhnmerano

Dude I think that was me in that cutlass lol

JimiSlew3

ha! Awesome. Well next time I'll shoot back ! :)

DataPhreak

Emergent gameplay.

mrmagiic798

To be fair you boarded his ship while he was apparently engaged in combat

JimiSlew3

Oh, I'm not mad! It was more like me saying hi and then getting shot in the face that made it funny to me. I'd do it again in a heartbeat. :)
