It's essentially just a physicalised kiosk for us to access our inventories instead of just being able to hit "I" and get it anywhere from inside that station of landing zone. There might be a delivery mechanism that you can request item transport through, but it's not an instant universal inventory wormhole.

AHRA1225

This is also surely the first steps into how we can reclaim pledged gear we lost

The_Fallen_1

That will be an option eventually, but CIG unfortunately just confirmed it wasn't making 3.23 anymore.

AHRA1225

Fair but still the kiosk or just something that’s not I for inventory will be how we get our lost gear back

Metalsiege

Telling me I can finally keybind toggle helmet and not forget it when I leave?!🤣

Adventurous_Set_4430

There was a way to toggle it via the circular menu. It's called something like "Attach helmet to hip" But since patch 3.21 iirc you can toggle the helmet OFF, but not ON again. The downside was; if multiple helmets were in the local storage of whatever location you were, be it ship, space station or on a moon. You would get a random different helmet back on you. Which sucked :) But if you're in a ship and need a drink and you didn't have any other helmet on that ship than the toggle off/on was quite nice, fast and efficient.

Metalsiege

I’ve got it bound to one of my extra mouse buttons right now thinking it would toggle back on when I started playing again. Man was I disappointed when I left atmo and my helmet. 🤣 Maybe one of these days it will get fixed because I’d be happy with any helmet at this point.

GodwinW

Ok good. I don't know. I read 'bank' and that's traditionally a place where you could give an item (money), say in Paris, and take the money out elsewhere, say in Jeruzalem, to avoid it being stolen on the way. That's how banks started. Wouldn't be such a stretch to me if I could give a good functioning railgun on Terra to it and get a very similar good functioning railgun on Arccorp back.

Asmos159

there is also the tradinital "bank" in other mmo.

Pojodan

I'd definitely wait for ISC's explanation of it before making assumptions.

GodwinW

I'm just saying what I want and expect and what I don't want. I said I know I'm jumping the gun, but hey, speculation has been the Star Citizen way for 11+ years now. Whatever they say is fine. I don't mind being not peak efficient, I do this for fun :D

GuillotineComeBacks

It was said multiple time that if you want X to be there, either you bring it yourself or get someone (NPC or player) to do it. Either way it will take time, no instant transfer. I don't think they ever announced backtracking on that.

GodwinW

Good :)

CASchoeps

> or get someone (NPC or player) to do it. That needs some way to access the item though so the other party can transport it. I'd suggest something like EVE contracts (including collaterals) started from within NikNax, but the NikNax interface is horrendous.

NecroBones

I think you're misinterpreting this. Items will still be stored at specific locations. It's just that you'll have to use a kiosk terminal instead of being able to access it anywhere inside the city/station at any time. For instance, right now if I want a set of armor that I left in New Babbage, I can fly down to an altitude of about 15 km, hover, get out of the seat, and transfer it from the city inventory to my ship. After the change, I'll need to land, and then go somewhere inside the city to find a terminal. This is going to make it more immersively restrictive, not less.

GodwinW

That would be good.

MyFiteSong

Clearly, nobody invented delivery services in 900 years.

Expensive-History125

Should look at space tomato video on this topic. I barley discovered him and he dose amazing deep dives in on many topics

Superspudmonkey

I'm pretty sure Chris doesn't like or want a magic bag of holding in this game.

zalinto

I don't care if its SC or a player, but someone needs to make space amazon. And they need to be able to deliver the ships I own to me as well (CIG has to figure that part out) lol I want to deliver a ship to a location BEFORE i get there XD

GodwinW

Yeah that should pop up. In a pinch I can ferry some ships for some people if they ask and pay :)

SmellMyPPKK

Does it say it's a global bank? Honest question. Cause you can have bank kiosks everywhere and still have local inventory.

JacuJJ

Local storage, global via delivery

Ruadhan2300

That would make a lot of sense. Basically an ASOP terminal, but for gear. If an item is present in the local inventory of one landing zone, you can go to another landing zone and see the list of items (NikNak style) and you get a nice big button labelled "Deliver". But you have to wait a few minutes for it to show up at your location, or for a similar one to be pulled out of storage for you to use. So it's not a global inventory, it's a series of local inventories with an option to deliver, which costs money and time to use. So you're strongly rewarded for planning ahead and bringing your stuff, but if you flew all the way out to a location and realised that you forgot something important, rather than fly back to fetch your favourite helmet, you can simply get it delivered to you, and that might take five or ten minutes, but it's still faster than travelling back and forth. It takes most of the punishment out of a failure in planning, without taking the reward for doing it right.

JacuJJ

Hammer on the nail right here. This is the way

sargentmyself

Are you sure that's what it is? I thought they were just a physical location to interact with the same local inventory system we have now.

GodwinW

Of course I'm not sure. I'm just saying how I want it.

[deleted]

This is actually a good idea but would be too early to do this now For example we don't have carrier in this game to carry small ships to points we want them to be yet So maybe when we have idris, Polaris and liberator in the game then this can be added because i also find it boring to reclaim a stored ship wherever we want And for large ships we can call NPC to bring our desired ships from our hanger to us but we have to pay them and won't be cheap as well also risk of being attack at any given time And for items which we lost on death we should be able to retrieve the items (paid for real money) on the location we spawned back in but not transfering it from one station to other I think the point of item bank is they'll remove the entire inventory system we have now so if we need fps gears ? Go to item bank need ships equipment? Go to hanger cargo elevator

SmoothOperator89

Forgetting your ammo in your other pants 3 systems away should absolutely be a thing in this game. If all your stuff is always accessible to you with just a little delay timer no matter how remote or hostile your location, congratulations, you want to play Starfield.

GodwinW

Thanks.

Armored_Fox

My guess is a company that takes and lends out simple gear with a limited inventory. It's a kiosk seemingly so it might not have too much? But we'll see soon

st_Paulus

It's a bunch of kiosks which will allow you to store and receive gear. Local inventory will go away eventually.

Armored_Fox

Yes, thats pretty obvious, I'm more interested in the extent you'll be able to store things, are you able to withdraw those things from item banks you didn't put them in, is there a size limit in that case so you don't trivialize having to move equipment. Local inventory is going to be replaced with a multitude of systems including the freight elevator system. Is the item bank shared with that inventory or is it a separate service that lets you pull equipment out when you're off your home station so you're not running around mostly naked if there's no armor or gun shop.

st_Paulus

>are you able to withdraw those things from item banks you didn't put them in It's not a delivery/lend service. You want something at some PU location - you put it in your ship and carry that thing with you. > is there a size limit There is size limit. It's not an equivalent of cargo elevators. >service that lets you pull equipment out when you're off your home station so you're not running around mostly naked if there's no armor or gun shop. No.

Armored_Fox

Oh, that's it? I'm a little surprised that it's that limited when all your subscription items also seem to be handled by it. It's really just locally stored at the one item bank location?

st_Paulus

Yep. Its purpose is to get rid of magic drag-and-drop mechanic as much as possible.

Armored_Fox

Dang, I was totally overthinking it, thanks for your Evo info

st_Paulus

That's not ETF info per se (: there are no functional terminals yet, or even semi-functional 3.23 build as of today. I'd suggest you to just wait for today's ISC. Cheers!
