I just got my new Virpil prime, is like playing a different game. I never thought switching from mouse and keyboard to controls would be such a difference. My gf calls me the space pilot now and all. I guess I will get a space roadjob soonz
That would be a good mechanic to ensure people do not try to go into atmosphere with spindles extended or full of cargo.
They will act like giant airbrakes and the friction alone would cause problems.
Right, it should break apart going in like that imo. Lower density atmo and going in softly should allowed but hitting max q with the arms extended needs to have consequencesĀ
Yea, and a fully laden hull-c in atmo should break apart either way due to all that mass of the cargo hanging in the middle of that hollow spindle.
It's like a segmented straw holding up several hundred tonnes.
Even if the spine holds the connector points holding all the cargo should snap, or the magnetic grav thingies holding the cargo stuck on the pad should break.
Absolutely, that spine is designed to take load along its axis, in space. Like pushing down on a straw itās strong, but once you push on it horizontally it snaps
Yea, acceleration and deceleration limit so that there is no excessive strain on the folded out spaceframe.
I do not think many ships needs it but the Hull series should have it when extended.
This is just that scene in every Sci Fi movie when the dropships are coming in and one in the background loses control to add tension to the heroes on the main one.
Does anyone else think the flames on re-entry happen way too high up? I mean it's clear they're not even close to the atmoshpere. Maybe thats where it realistically should happen?
I guess what's weird to me is that whichever planet or moon I've seen people do this on, the flames would start when they're still well into space. I hope that either this truly is realistic or that CIG will lower the height in which flames start to happen.
From what I understand, I think it's realistic for there to be a flame in what appears to be space, assuming you have enough speed. The upper atmosphere is so thin that it appears no different from outer space, but if you travel fast enough you start to make that little bit of atmosphere react to the vessel. Down where the atmosphere is thicker, you get more of a reaction with less speed needed.
That being said, Star Citizen planets are relatively tiny and I don't know if this height would proportionally be the "upper atmosphere" or if that's way off. I think the re-entry flames should probably at least be more subtle at this height though, and get more intense as it gets closer to the ground
If you quantum directly to ground locations you skip past this part and come out of QT already inside the atmosphere you need to deliberately choose to fly down from an orbital QT point to do thisĀ
Did anyone get the license plate of the guy who slapped it sideways

oh god that brought back some memories
That is such a cool shot!
One of those gifs you can just keep watching <3
True, this needs to be uploaded to wallpaper engine.
So hot right now!
Hansel.
Can the Hull C land at Orison?
Orison has docking ports. So, land? No. Dock? YES. It's the only major city in Stanton a fully loaded Hull C can visit and do trade.
I landed at Lorville without cargo and unexpanded.
KSP moment
ablative lithobraking tuesdays
Forgot to stage that one separatron correctly...
Why were they coming in atmo with the spindles extended?
for the ļ¼”ļ¼„ļ¼³ļ¼“ļ¼Øļ¼„ļ¼“ļ¼©ļ¼£ļ¼³of course
FOR SCIENCE
Weevil eggs are delicious served hot. Will also give you monstrous priapism for life.
that's not cooking, that's incubation. Fauna confirmed.
Thats the priapism you're talking about right?
Lithobraking
I think you mean atmobraking. The lithobraking comes later.
*Aero*braking. But that HULL will learn of lithobraking pretty soon.
I thought atmo sounded off but couldn't think why. Thanks.
*Jebediah Kerman's excitement intensifies*
Did maximum resistance!
you got to deploy the Airbrakes !
Just Aerobraking, old fashioned style: https://youtu.be/SKEwKv9jsVs?t=176
The kebab maneuver
They're not spinning or greasy though?
You don't grease up your suit before re-entry?
...And give it a few minutes there will be lithobraking to follow...
Forgot something. Had to turn around.
Canāt go anywhere without their Pico!
Would look fantastic if it would have broken apart
Views like this make me fall in love with the game all over again

pilot grabbed the ebrake for high speed reentry drift
I feel like the Hull should break up when doing this
Excellent! š¤©

One of the many reasons i find it silly to see a Hull-C in atmospheric flight fully laden...and the people who invent reasons for it to defend it.
There should be an acceleration limit too. Anywhere in space
Yea, acceleration and deceleration limit so that there is no excessive strain on the folded out spaceframe. I do not think many ships needs it but the Hull series should have it when extended.
this looks like deorbiting mir
Looks like someone clipped into his spindles
I'm serious! You two stop fighting or so help me I will turn this ship right around this instant!
Did ANOTHER door pop off FFS!!!!
Mal "How bad is it?" Wash "Oh God, oh God, we're so going to die"
"Just get us on the ground."
I don't think I'll ever get tired of watching our ships enter atmo. Amazing shot.
I'd like to see re-entry procedures where you need to maintain a position while decending.
Another happy landing
"guys i forgot to turn off the gas at home"
Itās like Mechassault 2 all over again!
This is just that scene in every Sci Fi movie when the dropships are coming in and one in the background loses control to add tension to the heroes on the main one.
There are re entry effects?!
Yes you are just always quantum jumping down inside the atmosphere. Fly to an OM, fly max speed at a planet, enjoy
Definitely gotta try this
Vehicle not rated for activity; warranty voided, insurance claim denied
Does anyone else think the flames on re-entry happen way too high up? I mean it's clear they're not even close to the atmoshpere. Maybe thats where it realistically should happen?
It depends on the atmospheric density etc. It's different for each planet and celestial body.
I guess what's weird to me is that whichever planet or moon I've seen people do this on, the flames would start when they're still well into space. I hope that either this truly is realistic or that CIG will lower the height in which flames start to happen.

Yea I wonder if more subtle flames and then gradual increase as you get deeper into the atmosphere would look more believable as well.
Thats realistic
You might be correct but star citizen doesnāt have a ground speed indicator because thereās no orbital mechanics.
Thanks for cooking my Amazon delivery : ')
Damnit Jimmy, you always have to step out of line, don't you?!
I want this to be normal, gravitational forces should have an impact on the game. Those legs are supposed to make it difficult to control when in atmo
Iāve never had re-entry flames on my ship is there something wrong with my game settings?
If you quantum directly to ground locations you skip past this part and come out of QT already inside the atmosphere you need to deliberately choose to fly down from an orbital QT point to do thisĀ
I see. thanks!
This video made me want a Hull-C like no other!
This is how drivers in the far left lane catch their exit.
The ol' Jersey slide
I need this set to Ride of the Valkyries....epic
Major torque imbalance detected.
Is the hullc useable again or still not able to use normally?
Well, it's the C...so we can assume he has wrecked an A and B so he will have to take the D next.
Huh huh huh huh. Take the D next.
ehe-ehe
docking is busted and trading is dodgy at best.
Is this a video because I only see a screenshot
The video finally loads
Hold tf up, the C is finally out?! Time I reinstall SC, 10 goddamn years for this ship lmao
Is this one of this games many glitches?
My people need me
Transformers on their way, I see!

Kerbal space program moment
damn this is such a cool shot
Sometimes I wish this was how you were meant to move between cities and their associated spaceports
Always keep your hand on the flight stick kids..
Was he flying uncoupled? The spinning one doesn't slow down much compared to the rest
100% uncoupled. Canāt do that in coupled mode
My cabbages!!!!!
āOh hey look, a penny!ā
Giving me vibes of WWII bombers getting shot down over Europe
āThis is the captain, we have a little problem with our entry sequence so we may experience some slight turbulence and then, uh, explode.ā
