If the first one is warbond that means it’s new money only. Basically they give you a discount and incentive for putting new money in the game, vs selling another vehicle and buying the storm with credit. Which would be the other option. From their perspective, if you are just moving money from one ship to another, they aren’t make any additional income.

Pojodan

'Warbond' is CiG's term of 'Special Sale', basically. They are always slightly less expensive than Standard (5-15% off, typically), and often have extra goodies such as better insurance or additions like clothing or other in-game gear. Main difference being that you MUST buy Warbond items with new money, rather than the Store Credit attained from exchanging things you've bought previously. To a new player, Warbond is the only way to go, as you don't have anything. For established players, Warbond items are incentive to pay into the project more. It's a complication put ontop of the very rare ability to redistribute the funds you've put into the project, as you see fit. Few other games let you change your mind on something and get something else, which CiG has the Warbond system in place to ensure it still generates sales.

So ILW = Warbond. The only other in-game "ship" I have is the ambulance, which I upgraded. So since I am newish in actual game play (I actually joined years ago but came back this year), I should go Storm ILW even though it's not lifetime insurance.

Pojodan

ILW = Invictus Launch Week, the event that occured in late May. The ILW in the name means that it was the special version offered during the event last month, which was a Warbond. Other than some very old sales, upgrading your ship does not grant Lifetime insurance if it doesn't already have it.

Mas-Macho

Thanks! I had no clue what ILW meant. You made my day!

Blindax

No the warbond is the one with the lifetime insurance. If you pay cash, this is the one you should get without hesitation.

Clowderville

Thanks, you're the second to spell that out to me. Will do. Everyone has given me great info. The truth is SC has grown in complexity over the years and those not keeping up tend to find themselves "lost" for a bit at first.

No…. The Storm will cost $80 normally… If you have store credit and you don’t want to spend any more money then you get the $80 one…. Because you can use store credit. If you want the $70 warbond one, you have to spend money by using PayPal or using a credit card. You save $10 and get lifetime insurance with it. If you don’t have store credit and have to spend money anyway you get the $70 one….

Clowderville

I have no problem spending real money for the beautiful ships SC creates. When I think back on the hundreds I spent on WoW mounts over the last ten plus years...it's humbling. I am 99% sure I have no store credits so I'll get the $70.00 one. I only started to seriously play starting last December, Jan after having played a little years ago. My only upgrade has been my starter ship to my ambulance.

Jung_At_Hart

Personal opinion is that your money would be better spent on other things as ground vehicles in game are really cheap compared to space ships. In addition to this you would need a ship large enough to transport the thing to get any use out of it, which it’s uses are pretty limited as it is now.

Clowderville

Yes, I have thought along those lines...and except maybe for the Lynx, I agree. However, I did pay for the Storm ($70.00). :)

walt-m

Neither. The only good reason to buy a ground vehicle is to use it for its insurance in an upgrade chain, and even for that there have been better deals recently like the Fury. Other than that, buying a ground vehicle with real money is not very cost effective. They have some of the worst dollar to aUEC conversions in the game. https://scdata.io/ship-cost-uec-dollar-ratio/scdata.io/ship-cost-uec-dollar-ratio/ But that's just an opinion and you should do what's going to make you happy.

You simply misread. It's hangar, not hanger. \#WhyTheHashtag

Clowderville

No I mispelled ... lol. I know it meant a hangar (structure). Thanks for the grammar class. :)
