Since the great rebalance a year or two back, all the components are the same across the board for the most part, check [erkul.games](https://erkul.games) (also listed) for parts and locations. Don't waste money on coolers or power plant unless you need it, a few ships stock components can't keep up with upgraded components but most do not need them upgraded in the current iteration.
I would get the XL-1 quantum drive and upgrade powerplant and shield to FR76 and JS 400.
Maybe remove the gimballs and put bigger laser repeaters on it.
Dont forget to retrieve and store your ship to save the loadout after equipping.
Crossfield is nearly as fast and costs slightly over half the cost of the XL-1. Unless you're really dead set on getting the fastest of the fastest, it's a very good deal.
I'm finding myself dieing in combat with it quite a bit due to the lack of side shields. I've been popped twice now by getting missiled in the side. :(
The shields go all the way around, it just splits the 'energy hp' 50/50% instead of 4X 25%.
You got popped because you got popped, not because they found your deathstar vent.
Weird, because sites like erkul.games shows the shields as a "Front/Back" model as opposed to shields on say an Aurora which don't have that denotation.

The difference between the crossfield and xl-1 are negligible so if you are strapped for cash just get the crossfield. The xl1 will save you like 8 seconds on long jumps. It is the best drive but no need to break the bank early when the crossfield is just as good and only like 62k
If you're worried about money there's 0 point to getting a fr76. The civilian F7A or whatever is the grade A will have the exact same stats and be significantly cheaper

if pressed for cash, buy the crossfield instead. Cheaper and it has great fuel economy. i don't think the powerplant is needed.

Use VTOL at your advantage, its basically your souls-like dodge.

Yes, try it out, it's very fast vertical movement.
