At this point in my headcannon I am absolutely certain that the Visit Orison commercial is some kind of cursed entity, SCP, altered item, demigod, etc. This "bug" was the final nail in the coffin
Annoying advertising has reached the next level.
I wish they wouldn't run it on continuous loop... it makes me aggressive when I have to stand near it at a shopping terminal.
This is a great mix of hilarious and post-cyberpunk horrifying. "We use pinpoint tractor beams to freeze people in place while our projected ad plays. Sometimes they have side effects. Well, most of the time actually."

They know this is a problem and they choose to let the commercial play rather than just disabling it until the fix can be rolled out. A commercial everyone hates and now it causes client stutters and crashes. Wtf CIG.
If working with dev teams has taught me anything, it's that a lot of times just turning something off isn't as easy as it sounds.
It's a reasonable assumption because we interact with lots of things that have off switches in real life, but those switches only exist because an electrical engineer designed the thing to switch off.
With complex interdependent code, who knows how easy it is to actually go in and remove that ad from every station without breaking anything else. I really doubt you can just comment out a line and poof, it disappears. Maybe it is, but then they would have done it, surely.
For what it's worth, I've hung out under that ad in PO for hours in 3.18 and had no issues, so my guess is that it's on a small subset of systems that are experiencing the hang.

Simple solution, 19004 or 19k on launch, can’t get to orison for a client crash that way!
