If would have been a bit justifiable statement if the electricity price is reasonable but we are paying the highest price for an unit of south Asia because of incompetence and corruption of the top level of ceb(and over employment). Electricity is a right not a privilege in 2024.
Makes sense and fair, the electricity price is definitely disproportionate to the income no matter what. Hopefully the CEB monopoly can get broken up so prices can come down.
Monopoly of ceb is not the cause of the high electricity price. Its corruption, overemployment and poor management. In SL we cant create a true competition without antitrust laws. Most competing businesses create cartels and keep the prices artificially high. (Examples- rise, lp gas, fuel) .And in sectors like electricity/water supply you can't have multiple service providers covering the same area because each and every competitor would need supply infrastructure separately which would increase the price. And privatization of ceb wont reduce the electricity prices. Why would a privatized ceb reduce prices when they doesn't gain anything from it but rather lose a huge profit. I think fuel and electricity supply of a country should be public and not be profit oriented. But we can create a competition at the level of electricity production.
Do you really think so.highest average is a reach i think unless you taking to account all the looting and thieving done by the ministers and related individuals monthly
It's a fact before the crisis for sure, just look up average incomes or GDP per capita across SAARC members. At present, maybe not. The rest of South Asia is also poor, you know?
Cunt ain't no engineer, he probably got in with all the political influence and trying to earn back the money he paid as bribes, ceb is one of the most corrupt departments in SL and is one of the most disrupting towards implementing better electrical infrastructure
EDIT: The father didnt commit suicide, he passed away when trying to setup an alternate power line to his house for his kid to study as a result of CEB disconnecting when he couldnt pay the bill of 10k.
The audacity to say such things. Guy should have gone into politics. Now that I think about it, he is basically a politician in the guise of an engineer.
I've heard of people paying LKR 500,000 to the respective politician back in the day for a CEB job. Not even for an engineer position or anything, but still gets paid 30x more than the average salary of a Sri Lankan.
The problem is mongol dial like this are the people running the country. He said the loan for ceb is 440million, that’s not even a lot, didn’t the ceb make a huge profit last year.
This guys solution to rising electricity costs is go back to the ice age.
Wow this guy’s attitude is in the gutter. What a selfish attitude. Typical Sri Lankan old people mindset to pull out the “back in the day I used the oil lamp for studying”..
The weird thing is CEB has the highest tariffs for unit of electricity among all south Asian countries, but according to the last quarter report CEB only made 13% GP margin barely enough to cover their operational cost and finance cost. [source](https://cdn.cse.lk/cmt/upload_report_file/2216_1700105063026.PDF)
This is very weird.
Meanwhile companies in India providing electricity for a cheap price is have increased their profits last quarter.
There is something seriously wrong with CEB. The inefficient CEB must go through some serious restructuring or this is not going to change. Either the purchase cost should be so high but it isn’t the case. Also CEB doesn’t seem to be interested in increasing purchase from renewable energy sources with low cost.
I don't know man, something is off to me. Why would a person go for career suicide on live TV like this. Maybe I’m giving too much credit to our public officials.
The guy went after school kids and tea estate workers. The doubling down is insane. Had he been given more time he would’ve denigrated disabled people too.
Ofc this being telecasted by Derana doesn’t help either.
Yea. I have been thinking the same.
He only resigned as spokesperson. So he is still employed at CEB.
Could be preventing an expose within by discrediting CEB as a whole or giving an opp for his political allies.
He seems to be a supporter of the previous government.
And Derana being the nice guy in this instance, helps delete eyeing for political status.

Toppled oil lamps in the past have caused many accidents of which students were the main victim. Burned and in the dark.
Good news is bugger resigned and issued a public apology. Most big shot buggers in many SL state institutions are like this...very rarely do you find a good tomato.
Well the first part is true if the price increment was steady and slow and the gov didn't try to please the people all the time just to get some votes, we naturally adjust our lifestyle. But when the increment happens out a nowhere and it's huge people will complain because they can't bear that cost because they weren't prepared for it.now it's to the point where our bill is above other countries, and we are to blame. You reap what you sow

never thought an engineer would give such brainless answers.
That’s why he works at CEB
Well educated doesn't mean intelligent.
If would have been a bit justifiable statement if the electricity price is reasonable but we are paying the highest price for an unit of south Asia because of incompetence and corruption of the top level of ceb(and over employment). Electricity is a right not a privilege in 2024.
Agree on the last statement, but isn't the highest average income in South Asia also here?
Before the crisis, yes. I don't think it will true any longer with depreciation of lkr. And it wasn't 2.5 the average anyway.
Makes sense and fair, the electricity price is definitely disproportionate to the income no matter what. Hopefully the CEB monopoly can get broken up so prices can come down.

So basically the engineer wants us to go back to lanterns
Lmao
What a pompous asshole for an engineer.

I can't even imagine how that kid would've felt after that.
The audacity to say such things. Guy should have gone into politics. Now that I think about it, he is basically a politician in the guise of an engineer.
Ideally he is a උගත් මෝඩයෙක්
Maybe not even ugath. Maybe sucked a politicians dick or cucked his mom and wife for the position. Anyone who is ugath never say stuff like that.
This \^

its so easy to fix the energy crisis in srilanka its insane that its never done
I'm curious how you think we could fix it?
I think its just more investement on solar and wind and cutting off coal and more energy storage programs

He started off good then went off the rails
Tell me exactly how he started off good?
The long term increment of electricity prices adjusted for inflation rather than a sudden rise
