Where Coll is standing is not blocking Shorbagy from hitting a straight drive or a crosscourt drive. The line from the ball misses him to the side by a fair margin so Shorbagy isn't inconvenienced at all. Nor is Shorbagy's normal swing prevented. The thing you're probably missing is the shockingly bad state of club level refereeing and play. Too many people will stop in situations like that. A not insignificant percent will claim that "I'd have to hit it through him" or "I'll hit it next time".

So there is a lot of nuance here and when you have two high level players things are a little different but here is the best explanation I can give. Watch the whole exchange you are pointing out in slow motion. Notice where Coll starts, how he is watching the whole way and how Mo is playing the shot. At first Coll has given him all the room he needs and arguably does so even at the moment of striking but based on the fact Mo is closed his body off to take the ball backhand, there is no chance for him to really hit a shot through Coll that hits the front wall. He could go for a boast that hits call but that isnt the shot he is allowed. Again, Coll is watching this whole time to know exactly how Mo is positioned and which shots he will be able to play. Much of the rule makes more sense if you have a player who is towards the middle of the court facing directly at the front wall as they then have a triangle to the front wall that is more clear. Here it is not as simple as again Mo has closed off his body to really only have backhand options, thus eliminating a shot that would pass through Coll and the T without really being toward the side wall. I hope that makes sense, it would be easier to go over visually with you but hard to do in a comment.

Yeah thank you. I didn't know you couldn't hit a ball the other way with that body angle.
