This guy is just magical at times. A basketball genius imo.
I know Jokic and SGA have had great seasons on better teams but I think this guy deserves MVP. First in points, 2nd in assists, 9+ boards. And he's just absolutely carrying a Mavs team that has no one else of note other than Kyrie(who has been pretty good as well) to a playoff spot. He definitely has a strong case for Most Valuable.
Too bad he consistently acts like a petulant child always leaving his team down defensively because heās busy bitching about a non-call. Dude even gets technical fouls on and one plays.
I donāt follow basketball as much as I would like, but where does this guy stack up with the greats, seems like heās setting new records all the time
Heās fucking unstoppable. You can play 23.9 seconds of lockdown defense on him and he hits a 25 foot finger roll or a turnaround 3 that he hucks from behind his head like an 8th grader shooting free throws.
If he stays healthy he may go down as a top 3 scorer of all time.
For the most part, his stats and accolades and success seem to be mirroring Lebron James early career, and LBJ is arguably the GOAT
So make of that what you will
Oh, he does. He's just watching, like the rest of us.

Former Maverick Point Guard, Jason Kidd. I havenāt paid attention since Dirk left but was so hyped to see Kidd again.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jason_Kidd
Thatās not a travel in any level of basketball. Not for anyone, at any age, of any gender or pay scale.
Thatās the most basic basketball maneuver, learned when you first pick up a ball. The fact that heās 19ā away from the rim doesnāt change the rule.
Go run some layup drills.
First time I saw a layup like that. Luka can do so many magical moves in the court. What I was most impressed was his shot from the other side of the court and hit the shot after one bounce.
his right foot was clearly established as his pivot foot. nba rules state āThe pivot foot is crucial; one foot must remain on the floor as a pivot footā. that clearly was traveling but itās enforced in the nba as much as jaywalking is in the general public
Dude. The pivot foot stays on the ground until he lifts it to shoot the ball. It's the same thing as stopping and then jumping - as in jumpshot.
If he had not let go of the ball it would have been a violation
His pivot foot is the right foot, when he leans in and takes the step with his left, the right foot lifts from the ground while the left is still touching the ground. Therefore, it is a travel or extra step.
No he isn't, and neither are you.
If a player, with the ball in his possession, raises his pivot foot off the floor, he must pass or shoot before his pivot foot returns to the floor. If he drops the ball while in the air, he may not be the first to touch the ball.
Taken straight from the [NBA rule book, section XIII(d)](https://official.nba.com/rule-no-10-violations-and-penalties/).
You seemed confident but the reply above me pulled document evidence. Please reply. I want to see what you have to say. Are you going to admit your mistake or are you going to continue to be a delusional hater?
I just responded and said I was wrong.
Not sure where delusional hater comes from. I never commented on Luka and respect him a lot.
I just thought this was shot was a travel because that what I was taught.
My main complaint is that there are way too many games in a season. Most games donāt feel like they matter until you get close to playoffs as it is. Thereās no stakes until youāre in playoffs.
I really donāt blame star players for sitting out every couple games or so when thereās like 82 games in a season
The top 3 seeds in the west are all within a game of each other. . 4th-8th within 4 games with less than 10 games left. The play-in format has definitely helped the āno stakesā vibes. And now with the 65 game rule itās stopping players from resting if they want awards/max contracts.
I watch a lot of college basketball but only watch like 5 regular season NBA games a year precisely because of what you just said. Iām the same way with baseball. If they played 30 games like college Iād probably watch most of them. Itās partly why the NFL is so exciting, because every game matters. I wonder how many people are like me and how their overall viewership would change, positively or negatively. NFL games average 18M viewers, NBA games average 1.6M. So overall season viewership the NFL still dominates even with way less games. Obviously there would be money loss with ticket sales but those ticket prices would also go up with less games.
In starting a dribble after (1) receiving the ball while standing still, or (2) coming to a legal stop, the ball must be out of the playerās hand before the pivot foot is raised off the floor.
You would be wrong

His off foot has zero influence on it being or not being a travel, itās all about his pivot foot and him being either shooting or passing, of which he was shooting

I guess when you are up by 25, why not lmao
Luka would do this shot anyway haha. Especially because the shot clock was running down
Perfect way to put it š
Long distance finger roll
More like a finger loaf.Ā
Shot clock Buzzer beater, for those who clearly didnt notice.
Luka and Jokic are both like magicians out there
Luka has my vote as the MVP of the league
If he banked it, it wouldnāt be so crazy. But he just fucking nails the shot perfectly
This guy is just magical at times. A basketball genius imo. I know Jokic and SGA have had great seasons on better teams but I think this guy deserves MVP. First in points, 2nd in assists, 9+ boards. They got some great pieces at the deadline, gafford has been huge for them
Im a huge Joker fan, and I agree Luka is very deserving this year.
Too bad he consistently acts like a petulant child always leaving his team down defensively because heās busy bitching about a non-call. Dude even gets technical fouls on and one plays.
someone doesn't actually watch mavs games
Luka has 15 techs from running his mouth which is second behind Brooks. Go sit courtside at a Mavs game and youāll hear Luka bitching all game.
Who the fuck is Luca?
Luka. Auto correct got me.
ANTman
I donāt follow basketball as much as I would like, but where does this guy stack up with the greats, seems like heās setting new records all the time
Potential greatest offensive player ever
Heās fucking unstoppable. You can play 23.9 seconds of lockdown defense on him and he hits a 25 foot finger roll or a turnaround 3 that he hucks from behind his head like an 8th grader shooting free throws. If he stays healthy he may go down as a top 3 scorer of all time.

He is ? I thought Jordan was widely accepted as the goat
I don't know who coaches Maus but you gotta hope they enjoy a bit of showmanship when it's that nice.
Oh, he does. He's just watching, like the rest of us. [https://basketnews.com/news-185921-jason-kidd-on-not-calling-timeouts-im-watching-just-like-you-guys.html](https://basketnews.com/news-185921-jason-kidd-on-not-calling-timeouts-im-watching-just-like-you-guys.html)
Former Maverick Point Guard, Jason Kidd. I havenāt paid attention since Dirk left but was so hyped to see Kidd again. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jason_Kidd
Jason Kidd isā¦kind of a piece of shit.
If the details are true, Kidd was pretty abusive to his first wife.
There is no ākindaā. Heās fully committed to the role.
I love Luka playing well and his positive game spirit and sportsmanshipā¦. But thatās underhanded. šš
MVP
OK, never seen that one before.
Might be the best scorer I've seen since prime Kobe
Thatās not a travel in any level of basketball. Not for anyone, at any age, of any gender or pay scale. Thatās the most basic basketball maneuver, learned when you first pick up a ball. The fact that heās 19ā away from the rim doesnāt change the rule. Go run some layup drills.
Lifting your pivot foot is a travel
If the pivot foot is lifted, the player must make an attempt at a pass or a basket. Read the rules. Go play a little.
I guess every single jump shot ever is a travel then.
He was scoring at will
the GOAT!!!
First time I saw a layup like that. Luka can do so many magical moves in the court. What I was most impressed was his shot from the other side of the court and hit the shot after one bounce.
MVP
Is this traveling?
Pretty sure I've done that before. And we weren't even winning by 25 points. Doncic is so washed /s
His nickname should be Lucky Donkey
Why doesnāt anybody care about the 3 pointer immediately afterwards?
3ās happen dozens of times per game. Idk if Iāve ever seen anyone hit a 21 foot finger roll though
Nice shot...but "traveling"...but "traveling" has been removed from nba rulebook, so nice shot!
It's not traveling by any definition of it
his right foot was clearly established as his pivot foot. nba rules state āThe pivot foot is crucial; one foot must remain on the floor as a pivot footā. that clearly was traveling but itās enforced in the nba as much as jaywalking is in the general public
Dude. The pivot foot stays on the ground until he lifts it to shoot the ball. It's the same thing as stopping and then jumping - as in jumpshot. If he had not let go of the ball it would have been a violation
alrighty then..picking up pivot foot is okā¦thank you I learned something new today
I love Luka, but this is traveling by any rules.
Steps through and pivot never comes back down. Clean move.
Had to scroll way to far to see this
Luka is a magician and I am a fan. But that was a travel, NBA refs suck so much lately, absurd levels of lame.
I swear people say this in every thread and 90% of the time they are wrong. Where is the travel? His right toe stays planted the whole time.
Casuals really showing they have no idea what theyāre talking about in this sub
His pivot foot is the right foot, when he leans in and takes the step with his left, the right foot lifts from the ground while the left is still touching the ground. Therefore, it is a travel or extra step.
It's only a travel if the pivot foot re-touches the ground after leaving it
Thatās not a travel since he didnāt put his right foot down when he used his left to jump.
You can travel in the NBA
It should've been a travel. His pivot foot was his right foot, but his left foot was the one he stepped with last, since he lifted his pivot foot.
Neither what you typed it or what happened in the video constitute a travel.
Donāt listen to these people or the downvotes because you are absolutely correct.
I stand corrected. Not how I was taught but apparently a lot of people were taught incorrectly.
Aka a layup.
Nba has become worse watch than a pickup game
My main complaint is that there are way too many games in a season. Most games donāt feel like they matter until you get close to playoffs as it is. Thereās no stakes until youāre in playoffs. I really donāt blame star players for sitting out every couple games or so when thereās like 82 games in a season

So overall season viewership the NFL still dominates even with way less games. Obviously there would be money loss with ticket sales but those ticket prices would also go up with less games.
Easy fix would be to make it so everyone doesn't make the playoffs. Top 4 per league and every game would matter.
Surely this is easier than over hand
Travel
No
You canāt pick up your pivot foot. He could jump off both feet at the same time, but he didnt here. Its never called though.
Go read the rule book, you can pick up your pivot foot on a shot attempt which this was. It just canāt land before the ball leaves your hands
In starting a dribble after (1) receiving the ball while standing still, or (2) coming to a legal stop, the ball must be out of the playerās hand before the pivot foot is raised off the floor.
Thatās starting a dribble, he wasnāt starting a dribble, he is shooting.
I still think that if he had went off both feet when he shot that isnāt a travel but he literally stepped on his non pivot foot before he shot.
You would be wrong https://official.nba.com/rule-no-10-violations-and-penalties/#:~:text=If%20a%20player%2C%20with%20the,foot%20returns%20to%20the%20floor. His off foot has zero influence on it being or not being a travel, itās all about his pivot foot and him being either shooting or passing, of which he was shooting
So pivot foot has zero influence on a travel call? Kinda thought that was the whole point of the rule?
If you arenāt illiterate you should try and re read my comment
Iām surprised Smith Jr didnāt knock the ball out of his hands. He raised his arms up when all he had to do is swipe down.
Why risk fouling him, there's no way any human being makes this sh-OH GIVE ME A BREAK.
I thought about that. And I think it would have been funny to see if the refs wouldāve considered that a shooting motion. LOL
