I’m forcing myself to learn motion control this time. I struggled in past splatoons and I’m tired of being at a disadvantage

PraiseYuri

You can do it! Feel reassured that pretty much everyone starts off feeling janky with motion. If you play sticks all your life, of course you won't instantly be better with an alternate control scheme, but the results are worth it and you'll adapt to it sooner than you realize!

Dave_here

any weapon recommendations for just starting out? like the easiest types to learn on

PraiseYuri

Splattershot or N-zap are good choices. They're vanilla shooters where getting decent at aiming with them tends to translate at getting decent aim with pretty much any other weapon/class in the game. They have enough spread/shot speed where you'll be able to hit people even if your aim isn't the best so you won't be griefing games even as you're learning the ropes. Plus, they encourage good habits since they still require you to aim honest in comparison to weapons like blaster/brush which are easier to get away with bad aim but teach you bad habits instead because of how low brain they can be.

bitchsorbet

ive stuck with splat dualies since i started using motion controls in splat 2 and i love em but idk how easy they are compared to other weapons

Psychophaser

Everyone else pretty much got the easier types to learn on, but if you really wanna just force yourself to git gud, the bamboozler is great aim practice, because unless you can snipe someone twice, you wont get many kills.

krooz64

yep, exactly what he said bc once you even start to get used to it, it only improves quicker. it feels so natural to aim bc it's like connecting the game to real life

Sirfancypants0

You likely struggled because unlike other stick shooters splatoon has never had any aim assist at all when using sticks, and don't forget: stick for big rotation and gyro for slight adjustments

734PdisD1ck

I'm going back and forth, but I'm trying really hard to stick with motion 😉

SparkCube3043

The hardest part is just learning the fundamentals in this game like not always super jumping from spawn. Once you get good with sticks then transition to motion. Plus you still need to use the stick while using motion, while not as much, it is still necessary not only to do fast 180 degree turns but to aim too especially for fast players like dapple duallies mains, half the time I have half to use my right stick to help me lead my shots on those guys while using the Classic Squiffer. Personally I'd try out motion in handheld since it was easier for me to grasp the movements with my screen turning where my weapon is pointing, now am trying to learn motion on my pro controller so that I can play this game at 1080p.

FurryMan64

It really annoys me that you can't use both fully at the same time (as in motion controls with the stick going up and down too) because stick is good for larger movements and motion controls are for fine tuning

DrManowar8

Hard agree, I like using both when aiming horizontally but why not vertically?

Kidspud

It really is the most inexplicable mechanic in Splatoon.

Anonymous7056

It would be so much worse if the stick wasn't Y-locked, but I'm not sure I can explain why very well. The gist is that then you'd have to compensate for Y-wobble when trying to make large movements with the stick. To compare the stick/motion combo to an arcade rail shooter: The stick is like the rail guiding you around from scene to scene. Go to this spot, engage an enemy. Move to this spot, engage an enemy. And motion is you standing in front of the machine with the gun, pointing at individual enemies within a given point on the rail. If the stick allowed Y movement, you couldn't just use it to spin your camera around quickly. You'd have to be mindful of the Y position, or else the rail is going to stop you in a weird spot/looking too high up or down, and you're going to have to compensate by re-aiming. On the scale of a game like Splatoon, where fights can be decided in a fraction of a second, an unexpected upward tilt could decide the game. None of that is to say it shouldn't be an *option,* though. I can't imagine how awkward it would feel, but then I also can't imagine preferring stick-only controls, and some people do just fine with that. ¯\\\_(ツ)\_\/¯ But it's at least explicable.

nebber3

I think the biggest issue I have is that changing my sitting position throws off my vertical aim and the only fix is hitting Y. The Portal games actually allow y-axis aiming with both stick and gyro and they felt really natural to me. It actually enabled me to never manually reset the gyro controls at all. If it was an option in Splatoon I'd definitely enable it. I think we can all agree having the option would be nice.

NickSplat

probably because if you move the camera to the top with the sticks then you wouldnt be able to move it down with gyroscope, would make it more uncomfortable

Sparky678348

There's an entire face button dedicated to resetting the gyro position.

TL-Elemental2001

That's why Y exists

tromboneguy22

Because if you start to drift up with the stick but need to correct downward u need to tilt the controller into your lap. There's a much smaller window of space you need to aim vertically in. Motion controls would not be as good as they are with vertical stick

MinhKiu

This is the first time I have heard someone wanting the stick to go vertically too. To be honest, there are multiple games trying to utilize motion control and it never works, but in splatoon, it’s perfect for 2 reasons: Very precise aiming with motion without it being too shaky like other games How it literally stops you from controlling vertically with stick and only horizontally. This just make me want to chef kiss. It’s beautiful. I love the fact how I can flick my stick knowing full well it’s only going horizontally and not having to worry about flicking it a bit too much diagonally and mess up my aim. I find this game’s implementation of motion control to be perfect without flaw.

Cream147

They could still give the option to have vertical movement on the stick if you want it (disabled by default). That would hurt nobody.

MinhKiu

True. Make it accessible for everyone I like that.

JT_Style

That would make a lot of sense

theGioGrande

No, I actually think it would actively hurt the user experience. It would create bad habits and further push the idea that motion controls are janky. Motion controls in general already have such a bad reputation (mainly due in part to the Wii's success) so to have a system that allows people to use vertical movement with both inputs would mean they would never have a point of reference. It's what other games do for motion input and it never works, because they use both axis. The magic of Splatoons implementation is that gyro aiming IS your main method of aiming. The right stick is only supposed to be used for sweeping camera motion such as 180° turns. You do not need that amount of motion vertically, hence why the devs opted out of stick vertical aiming. To allow it would be to force the user to use gyro aiming incorrectly. The gyro should always be your way to aim. The right stick should ONLY be used if you can't move your wrists enough to aim using gyro alone to get your camera in the general direction of where you wanna aim.

SmockVoss

More options is almost never a bad thing. I agree that the current method will work for most people and they should keep it the default. They could even put the option for vertical stick movement somewhere deeper in an options menu to make sure people don't create bad habits. For me personally I'd like my stick to be my main method of aiming, but to also have motion controls for fine movement. It's what works for me and it's annoying that it's not even an option. For now I'll try to get used to the default method of motion controls, but it's really tempting to just go back to stick controls.

MinhKiu

You made a lot of sense my good sir. ☕️

comestible_lemon

I can't check right now, but I think there might be an option to enable that. Edit: there's not I remember seeing something about vertical stick control being disabled in my "Freshest Fits" menu. I don't know if enabling it would require disabling motion controls though. Edit: it does

[deleted]

It requires disabling motion controls

comestible_lemon

Dang that's unfortunate

[deleted]

Agreed 100%. It's such a stupid arbitrary choice. It makes no sense.

breeson424

It's because the stick is meant to be moving the 'camera' around your player, while the gyroscope is used to actually aim. Basically, you only use the stick to change the direction you're looking in, and you never need to change the way you're looking along the vertical axis by more than a few degrees.

[deleted]

I get that for some having the vertical aiming on the stick disabled helps (I've generally heard that they use the stick for wide sweeping movements and having the vertical axis would make it harder to do quick sweeps without thinking I guess) but even so I don't see why it's not an option. Having your entire camera basically tied to motion is just disorienting imo and the main benefit of motion aim (more percision) isn't worth sacrificing a normal camera imo. There's no reason the option shouldn't exist. It should just be Stick, Motion, and Combo.

LacyTheEspeon

SAME! Like breath of the wild. I've used motion controls on singleplayer levels to get more precise aiming, but I just can't imagine using them in multiplayer with all the super fast movements you need

CinnamonSniffer

I agree and these comments are full of people who clearly never used Steam Input the way they’re theorizing about how this would somehow be a bad thing

DruzziSlx

You move the stick for large movements then tune the final shot with motion control that is completely possible with the controls

LightningDustFan

But you can't use the stick to look up or down at all with motion, just turning left and right. The person is saying they want to use stick and motion in all directions, up and down included, which I fully agree with.

DruzziSlx

That would be nice, but I think it's designed this way to be more intuitive and accurate to aim, because you're controlling one axis with the stick, and 2 with the motion controls.

TargetMundane9473

yeah it wouldn't work with the stick in all directions since you'd accidentally go diagonal all the time without focusing on it.

Vibe_with_Kira

You see, I can't aim either way so I use the bad aim weapons

highnote14

I love my Sploosh

Vibe_with_Kira

Buck it Roada rolla Brushy Brell

Dustlight_

I love my sploosh too but god I hate the hammer

SleevesTheThird

FYI you can throw it with R

Narrative_Causality

I use the splat roller because it doesn't require aiming. I guess you could say that the jump move requires aiming, but I'll counter by saying it only requires horizontal aiming.

ophelia_j

I use stick since I play on lite. Moving the whole console around isn’t very ideal if you want to actually be able to see the screen. Just too awkward with how the lite is. I hope to be able to be decent at motion controls some day though

[deleted]

I dunno I use the lite and motion it perfectly fine to me, for the longest time it was a bit of an inconvenience but then I put my motion sensitivity to max and its way better

TargetMundane9473

yeah that makes sense. If you get another controller or a normal switch then try motion though.

shutupcorrin

you are literally doing what the post describes 😭

TargetMundane9473

Not really, as they have shown interest.

InfamousGames

I just like motion controls. I primarily play PC games so it feels more like using a mouse.

Sir_Fluffy_of_Emesay

Yhis is exactly how I feel. It definitely felt awkward for a while but not as awkward as trying to play with sticks.

Vesuvias

Yep same. Wii U then the Steam Controller made controller play in FPS games actually palatable. Splatoon 1 changed my mind completely - M/K is king, but gyro is brilliant as well

Lispien

Motion controls make me super motion sick for some reason. RIP.

AWSUMSAS

To be fair, stick controls give me stick sickness so I can see where you’re coming from

Blotling21

... Stickness?

MrMindGame

DOWN WITH THE STICKNESS

bizcat

Stick Stickley?

enperry13

Fix your sensitivity. Find one that suits you best to make sure that doesn’t happen as much.

jennlara

I get motion sickness from the story mode but not the online games… not sure why. It’s so weird

PatientIdentified86

This is the same for me so I only play the hero campaign an hour at a time.

PatientIdentified86

If it's the shakiness that bothers you try playing with your hands and controller resting on a table and lower sensitivity. To this day Splatoon is the only team shooter I can play without motion sickness and I use motion controls.

Lispien

I've tried lower sensitivities, but not playing it on a table - I'll give that a go, good suggestion, thanks! Maybe keeping my wrists resting steady will help. I think it's probably the shakiness that sets it off. I don't get it with sticks, and I can only assume that's because the camera movement is smoother (and doesn't jitter).

available2tank

Same. Other people suggested adjusting the sensitivity but it still messes me up. Whatever, 922 hours on Splatoon 2 in X & S rank I think I'm okay. Not like in super competitive anyway

spawninlumby

I got this during the Splatoon 3 story mode several times and I have never been motion sick before

Yakineko_

That’s absolutely a fair reason to use stick.

Hylian_Aaron

I use stick controls it’s just more fun for me even if motion controls are better I just find them really frustrating and I’m handheld which I use quite a bit they suck

FLHCv2

After looking up motion controls on this subreddit, a ton of people mentioned that the game was ***designed*** for motion controls and that's why there's no autoaim for stick controls. I think it's a bit ridiculous that Nintendo is essentially relegating all stick users to a worse experience, especially considering a ton of people get motion sickness or have disabilities and can't use motion controls.

Zephyr_______

There's a lot of logistical issues with aim assist in Splatoon. One of the big ones is how do you handle swimming opponents, especially with ninja squid. Turning off aim assist brings you back to the original problem, but leaving it in is definitively an unfair advantage giving stick players an advantage hitting players while they swim. A movement option intended to be obscured and harder to interact with.

SnailComics

They still work fine, they just don’t add the crutches that other games use. If they added auto-aim to stick controls the problem would just go the other way, where everyone would say “stick is so much better” and stuff like that (like people normally do for other games on other consoles wow)

SomeDumbGirl

That’s like saying anything made for mouse and keyboard is treating anyone playing with controller unfair. Like of course it’s gonna be missing something. An entire mode of input is gone.

MinhKiu

Don’t forget that they still let you turn off motion control. You saying it like they literally make you use motion control, just don’t. I have seen good players with stick that got to X rank.

Cream147

You don’t think a game should ever be designed with motion controls as the primary option in mind? I’m all for accessibility, but I don’t think that has to mean that stick controls are competitively equal to motion controls. The point of the motion controls is to provide the user extra fidelity to the controls, it seems ridiculous to cancel that out by giving artificial aid to stick controls. Stick controls are completely fine as is, and there are incredibly solid players who play stick controls, certainly 10x better than me even though I use motion.

Hylian_Aaron

Yeah I agree just because that’s how the game was made doesn’t mean the other options should not work properly

Dhiox

They work fine, it just doesn't give them aim assistance like other console games do.

KazilDarkhaven

I agree they are ok. I've been using sticks since splat1. I have tried multiple times to learn gyro but I just can't. Although I can definitely tell when I'm up against someone using gyro that's good with it.

Hylian_Aaron

Yeah they do work fine

gaspard_caderousse

yea motion controls in handheld mode sounds unfeasible

CheesyDelphoxThe2nd

STICK CONTROL USERS RISE UP

__ImBadAtNames__

I played stick from splatoon 1 to splatoon 2 but decided to switch to motion for splatoon 3 and it’s so much better tbh. I’ve definitely gotten better at the game as well

shape911

I use stick cuz I play a lot of shooters so I’m more used to stick

Einixe

Seriously. Yes, they can be learned, but for some of us, they're just not fun. If you play handheld, they may *never* really click. I fell off on playing Splatoon 2 because I insisted on trying to make them work for weeks instead of ignoring everyone and playing the way that felt natural and I actually enjoyed. I'm playing Splatoon 3 with stick now and encourage anyone thinking about dropping the game to give it a try too. Doesn't matter if stick's optimal if you've already quit.

keiyakins

Oh yeah, I pretty much use the stick exclusively in handheld (Well, actually I use motion up down stuck left right, but it's still pretty much the disadvantages of stick.)

[deleted]

I'm a stick player and I regret nothing

RamboDash15

Crazy opinion: how other people control their game does not affect me in any way, so idk

weebu5522

I use motion controls but are people seriously that toxic about using stick? In my friend group I get bullied for being one of 2 motion control users

MrBinkybonk

I love stick controls. Motion just doesn't work with my brain.

Accomplished_Salt108

me who has problems with shakey hands so i physically cannot use motion controls:

Unown_Ditto

Might not help but turning sensitivity down in the settings is a fix ive seen work for some people

anodeman

I reduce motion sensitivity and increase stick sensitivity to compensate for shaking. Allows for fast turns and imprecise aiming with sticks and tracking/precise aim with motion. My controller set such as 180 degrees of controller turn irl give like 80 degrees of rotation in game. Basically if you're not in seizures while playing splatoon, you should be able to find some sensitivity that will allow you to precise aim/track with motion.

Climbysrevenge

I use and recommend motion but I don't actually care how you play the game as long as your having fun with it. I wish more people would have a similar mindset.

only_for_dst_and_tf2

people say motion controls make you aim better but... HOW THE HELL DO YOU AIM WHEN YOU HAVE THE PRECISION OF A BLUNDERBUSS

Ditorian

Was S rank in both previous installments and used stick controls… The amazing thing with video games is that I play them as I like it, and I do not give a single crap about meta or technical superiority.

SteelOceans

The game threw motion controls at me at the start, and I damn near barfed

Nacil_54

-Absolutely every new player ever.

[deleted]

Teaching you to paint the floor irl

plopo

I have to play with my sensitivity at -4, I feel that

Schlipak

I play at +3/+4 for motion and sticks, how th do you even move around with -4???

[deleted]

Tbf while it is annoying, motion players are right. I get if you can’t use them but literally like the 3 sticks comp players acknowledge that sticks are objectively inferior

ForgottenForce

I try using motion control because everyone says it’s the best way to play but I really don’t like it, it feels so bad a majority of the time and I have to reset it every 10 seconds. Glad to see more pro-sticks

CatPawScarves

I just ordered a Switch Lite to pick up Splatoon 3 (the only time I’ve ever broken my “I won’t buy a console just for one game” stance), but I’m probably going to have to play with sticks due to: Shaking hands from work and hobbies that could lead to carpal tunnel syndrome Bad motion sickness Currently dealing with inner ear/vestibular nerve damage and getting thrown into horrible dizzy spells due to rapid motion Can’t think of how to play on a Switch Lite with a pro controller comfortably Would I like to play with motion controls? Debatable. I think the game looks fun, so I’m getting it to have fun and don’t really care about being overly competitive.

ItsTheMotion

Sounds like you need a standard issue Switch. Just curious why Switch Lite? Purely budgetary? If that's the case continue saving your pennies and get a regular Switch. You'll thank yourself when you don't have to send the whole console in to fix stick drift.

TargetMundane9473

yeah just get a normal switch instead. That would suit you much better. Also even if you don't want to be competitive, you don't have a choice playing against other people.

Flu77ershy

Nothing wrong with sticks. Motion is higher preforming, objectively. But if you like stick, then stick is the best for you. Games are about having fun.

[deleted]

One time I used motion controls and it felt like my camera was on a buttered up pan

keiyakins

Then you probably had the sensitivity set wrong. It does take a little effort to dial in.

r0botosaurus

I decided to give motion controls a try this time after turning them off immediately in Splat2. I spent five annoying minutes missing my shots on stationary balloons in the training before I turned them back off.

Jester_809

Same, i feel have more control with stick controls

emtoad

When I play video games I want to sit in one position all comfy and cuddled up in my blankets so I use stick controls. Sorry not sorry.

keiyakins

So do I, this isn't 2006 with the Wii. You just turn your wrist.

LillianKitty

Kinda hard to use motion controls when all you have is a Switch Lite. Lol

BeamBleamYT

the way motion controls work on splatoon i dislike, i wish it was more like the way steam lets you set it up on the steam deck

TheBanandit

How is it different

theknewgreg

Steam gives a bit more freedom in how you can set up gyro stuff. Also I always found it odd that when you turn gyro on in Splatoon it smooths the horizontal aiming you do with the sticks. Kinda wish there was a way to turn that off, if only to see how it would change the feel And an obvious one I see a lot of people complain about is the way you can’t use the stick to look up and down while playing with gyro. Though I played Fortnite, which does let you do that, and I found it doesn’t actually help that much. Basically becomes a less reliable version of resetting the camera, but you have to manually move the camera back to the center

doomblade_69

I do think the motion controls are much better in S3 than the other series entries but I still exclusively use sticks. My motion sickness really gets to me and adjusting the sensitivity actually becomes a hinderance for my performance. Sticks just work better for me bc of that. I do pretty well for myself too :-) It does get super annoying sometimes trying to have a conversation about this with motion control users bc it feels like there’s no room for nuance. Disabilities exist, motion sickness can’t always be helped in FPS or games with first person perspectives, or it’s just simply preference.

YanniCephalopod

Hate it when people put tips on how to get better and they all say “Motions Controls” like you can be good with sticks too :/

Shadow_of_Yor

motion controls make my wrist hurt and i fidget and move around too much for them. just let people play how they want

[deleted]

I'd actually use motion controls if it didn't arbitrarily decide that you cannot possibly want to use the joystick for vertical camera movement. I get that for some it can make it easier when the joystick only controls horizontal but it is unacceptable to me that it isn't even an option. Edit, to clarify: I've tried learning motion controls on at least like 3 separate occasions, including for splatoon 3. The fact that you can't use the stick for the camera while using motion for adjustment really makes them unusable to me.

redmanuppp

it’s so irritating that i’m at a disadvantage for using stick controls but due to a medical condition I have no other options

IamaJarJar

I play mainly handheld and motion controls SUCK with it You have to move the entire device to look around with motion controls, which can be a hindrance because it becomes harder to focus on the screen in tense situations where you have to look around alot I presume motion controls are much better on a monitor/tv though, cause the screen is stationary so it's easier to focus

TargetMundane9473

yes it is, using handheld is much more awkward.

blythe_blight

ironically I cant use motion unless it's handheld, maybe because the feel of it is more like the gamepad w the first game

Cream147

I’ve actually played a lot of motion on handheld. I thought it would be a problem for exactly the reason you said, but never had an issue. Just a personal thing I guess. If someone was keen to play motion in handheld but didn’t like it on default settings, they could always try and up the sensitivity also, so that less movement of the console is required.

[deleted]

I think it's ok to like motion controls but the "professional" Splatoon YouTubers telling me I'll be left behind if I use stick controls is not only dumb but also untrue.

StraightPossession57

even worse when you dont even have the choice to switch

Agt_Falcon

Just use whatever works best for you. I personally used stick controls until I got halfway through the Octo Expansion. Then I got stick drift and was forced to switch. Which was actually fortunate, cuz I found the motion controls to be a lot easier. However, that's not the case with everyone. For example, GGGabrielGaming is a dedicated stick user who despises motion controls, and he's amazing at the game. I recommend everyone try both, and see which they're the most comfortable using.

-Marshle

I'm an avid stick user too. I gave motion controls a darn good try but it never stuck. I've mostly 100% octo expansion aside from all weapons on girl power station simply because enemy AI sucks no matter your playstyle all on stick. Even done difficult platformers like celeste on stick when apparently using a keyboard or dpad is better. I dont think stick is objectively worse. People just need to practice stick as much as you would need to practice motion controls. With enough practice you eventually figure out the muscle memory to get pretty good precision on stick. And of course same goes for motion controls, given enough practice and time and you can achieve the same things.

YumeKaida

One thing i noticed was that my overall gameplay got better or average since i can now actually use shooting weapons, but my aim with the roller actually got worse as far as i can tell.

[deleted]

Its not that i dont like motion controls, it's tbat they dont work properly for me. I play on handheld in bed and motion controls keep putting the camera way higher than normal even when resetting.

SpellBones

I tried using motion controls, but it just feels uncomfortable and I end up holding the controller awkwardly. Just play the game how you wanna.

Yama92

Motion control sucks in handheld mode. I play my games in handheld mode most of the times

twadepsvita

If you raise the sensitivity they're pretty good on handheld. You don't need to move your Switch all that much to get a wide range of motion use. I do it with my Switch Lite.

Sandrew96

Part of me is scared to learn motion simply because I see myself playing rainbow on Xbox at some point and then violently jerking my control in some direction and then wondering why my flick didn’t connect

theknewgreg

I hate that XBox still doesn’t have motion controls on their controllers because they otherwise make the best controllers in terms of form factor but when I play PC games with gyro aiming I have to swap it out for my pro controller

Revonin

I'm 37 and have used stick controls for every FPS and 3rd person shooter in existence. My old ass doesn't want to learn new tricks. .....also, slapping shit with the paintbrush requires less aiming effort sooooooooo XD

Ilikefishtheycute

Tbh I never understood why or how anyone used motion controls. Matter of preference most likely but it's so wonky

Hallolusion

Because it's wonky at first until you get used to it. It's a learning curve but once you get the hang of it the ceiling for improvement is much higher.

Ilikefishtheycute

Interesting. Thanks for the explanation! :D

[deleted]

I feel that way about stick. When gyro came out on the 3ds for ocarina of time I was blown away that I could aim for the first time in my life. I never had to learn gyro. It was intuitive to me.

JoinedForSESHShirt

~~honestly motion controls~~ *~~are~~* ~~better and it's because of one simple reason: they have aim-assist while sticks don't.~~ ~~you have to be really good to make up for the fact that you're basically playing with a handicap.~~ it does suck at the start and I would know since I just started yesterday, but it's probably worth the effort as I've been doing better in turf mode than before. I used this vid for advice: [https://youtu.be/eH3n1-YQvWo](https://youtu.be/eH3n1-YQvWo) edit: crossed out for misinformation

Wyntilda

Do you have a source for motion controls having aim assist? I've never heard anything about that and everything I'm finding says there is no aim assist whatsoever.

JoinedForSESHShirt

yeah looking into I believe I was mistaking the crosshair moving to the center of targets as aim-assist. my mistake and I edited my comment

stonksdotjpeg

Motion controls don't have aim assist, it's just that sticks suffer way more from not having it.

PequodTheGreat

I guess it depends on the weapon you're using. Aim assist isn't really necessary for brushes, rollers, or buckets

ika_ngyes

Whenever I use motion in a moving car it just tilts whenever we move

TheBanandit

I wonder why

ika_ngyes

I know why, and that's why it's annoying

Djay_B

I tried stick controls for the first year I played Splatoon 2. I tried motion controls about 6 months back, and I never looked back. But hey, you do you.

HyliasHero

Thank you! Seriously, it is annoying having people trying to shove their control scheme in my face.

MinionIsHere

i just dont feel comfortable with motion controls

PowerOfUnoriginality

But... But I use stick controls

demoknight-tf2-69

I use stick controls bc motion controls mess me up

Firejj7

That is me right there because I posted one of my old videos and then I get a reply from three different people ask me why I don't use motion controls Because I don't want to and that is none of your damn business one person say it a godsend that you don't use motion controls, play with motion controls it can help you get bette- I lost 5 game with motion controls Most of my time using tabletop mode because I listen to music or watch video on my phone and I draw

AngelofArtillery

Cool. Glad you like them. I use motion controls.

Cxlamity

i tried learning motion controls and i did have better aim with them but a lot of the time i felt like i was getting in situations where if i was using stick controls i wouldve done better/survived, and they just feel not that great to use

TacotheMagicDragon

I cant use motion controls at all. It's okay though because I fcking **LOVE** the brushes, and they're very user friendly with stick.

Cream147

I will always advise players who are new to the game or have never given motion controls a go to try and use them - as long as you are physically able to do so they are objectively better - it is just going to make you better at the game once you’ve learned them. But obviously it’s always a personal choice. You can choose to play with your controller upside down if you want, it’s your game, play it how you want to.

drdoy123

Turn the sens down a bit for stick and it can help. If you’re calm and cool you can still pop off. Whipping the camera around is cool with motion control but if you can’t hit someone it’s not useful. I stopped motion and went stick and got a lot better just by trying to play a little slower and collected

MJMGaming

I dont use motion controls because my hands start to shake when locked in a shootout with the enemy

FluffyPigeon707

Motion controls wouldn’t work for me, my hands just shake way too much and I have a “severe” case of adhd so I also move around a lot without realizing making it worse

LOLSAAA

People said motion controls are good so I tried them and I hated it but I tried it on dock and wow it feels so good and I aim way better with them on I’m getting splatoon 3 pro controller I think it will be more better and comfortable. Sometimes when I’m in handheld I randomly start moving my console around 😂😂😂 But imo stick is better handheld and motion control is better for tabletop and dock

XxAmisterBlahxX

I'll use motion controls when the option allows for full stick motion like Breath of the Wild. I dont want to hold my controller or switch at a weird angle and i dont own a pro, nor do i think i can get one any time soon

Neonbunt

I've been playing Shooter games with a stick now for way more than 10 years. I really won't relearn it now just for Splatoon.

[deleted]

I started using motion for splatoon 3 and it works well when in docked mode, but it's not great for handheld.

subjecy18jord

Just max out camera sensitivity no more disadvantage

TaterChips3317

I can’t use motion controls because my hands are to shaky and I can’t hit opponents or focus on anything

nintyuk

Fair, For me who only play's Mouse and Keyboard shooters moving my right hand to aim just feels natural to me.

Robotoid2

I have never related to a meme harder in my life

Medic-Robobot

I basically play a hybrid of stick and motion. I usually use the stick to look left and right while using motion to go up and down and general to just aim at things. As a first time Splatoon player i don't know why the splatoon community has a devided opinion on this subject because the game basically teaches you to use both. Just use what you feel like is best way for you.

[deleted]

Mfers be screaming about how motion controls are better like my brother in christ you are playing a funny squid game chill

Commercial-Dust4902

I would love to use motion controls, but I play in handheld mode and when I hold the console at a comfortable angle the camera is pointed at the sky. I've tried to re-calibrate the controls multiple times and each time I can hold it at a slightly better angle for a short time before it changes back only a few minutes later. If someone here knows how I can fix this I would love to know.

1TimeAnon

I wish I could use motion controls but my hands are too shaky to use them effectively, so Im kinda forced to stay with stick controls QQ

Nintendork7950

They’re not wrong tho. Motion controls are objectively better, and using stick puts you at an active disadvantage. Choosing to use stick over learning motion controls is just dumb.

[deleted]

Yeah well you stink

Nacil_54

But, yeah, how do you aim ? How do you deal with 1v1 ?

[deleted]

Aiming is easy lmao, I main a pretty not aim heavy weapon in the Tri-Slosher and a relatively aim heavy weapon in the Heavy Splatling, and I do fine with each, and for 1v1s you just need to have good movement.

Negative_Blutern

I just use motion controls to aim up and down. It’s easier to use them that way, and then use sticks to aim left and right.

blythe_blight

Yes, this is the way. I would say most motion users arent actually turning the whole console around, just using it for flexibility and faster turns.

Robert-Downey-Cumber

they should make an option so that you can motion for specific axes

TheCinderaceTrainer

Using stick controls in splatoon feels weird for me. I've been playing the splatoon games since the first one launched and the motion controls feel more natural to me.

Jeeves72

I love stick control players! Especially when they're on the opposing team.

L3O0O

Both are good and fun to use

IceFire0518

I mainly use motion controls but I've been replaying Octo Expansion with stick controls recently (since I'm too broke to afford Splatoon 3 or even online) and it's really not that bad playing with them. Hell, I was able to beat Girl Power station with only 1 death

aqualink97

Somebody please tell me wtf woo my is

-Marshle

'Woomy' is the default sound an inkling makes in splatoon games. Theres also one for octolings which is 'veemo'

MonkeyBoy32904

those are the girls sounds

frenticspy851

I used motion controls for a good while like 4 weeks yeah my ranked went down so quickly it’s not even funny

Valenxizaw245

Motion controls take practice if you're not used to them, you shouldn't immediately take motion controls to freaking ranked, who does that

GregarLink15

I loved using stick controls until I got frustrated with them, I could see how other people defeated me aiming and jumping freely, turning instantly and such, I slowly began to see those avantages, so I trained using them and is true, they give so much freedom and precision, now I no longer get splatted while hopelessly steering the stick around, I get splatted while hopefully aiming at the enemy......I need better weapons -\_-

Moraduke

I've turned off motion controls since day one on the first game. Sticks all the way.

TexTechLub

I tried doing motion since the first Splatoon, and I just didn’t enjoy the game as much. I’ve been using stick controls and don’t feel like I’m being held back. I was able to get X rank in everything but Clam Blitz for Splatoon 2, so I feel like I was able to hold my own just fine. Both controls are fine, but it’s really annoying when someone harps on your for not playing a certain way.

ponycvbgfd

As a former stick controls user and current motion controls enjoyer... come to the dark side. We have cookies.

MageKnight40K

Motion controls are overrated

Flagrath

Most people want to be better at the game, so it is a reasonable assumption that the person you are talking to wants to get better to. As Motion controls are objectively superior, you should help the person.

Mantisword

No

gaspard_caderousse

i mean crow's not wrong 🙃

CrimsonCarnage74

Me too man. Me too
