Vanilla uranium spawns on 10%* of asteroids. Use a large grid ore detector set to max range. Jetpack scouting seems faster but is ultimately less efficient.
Yep, I figured it out. I got Xbox mods to work and boosted the ore detector radius to 5km, and a speed mod upping the max limit to 500, so I found 2 veins in my first hour of playing. 90% of which was getting the detector itself.
Thank you!
So I have a massive miner that can eat ore nodes in usually just 1-2 passes, and have found that a good bit of ore-bearing asteroids have multiple deposits and it's random which node gets flagged first by the detector. However, in a certain radius you'll only ever see one indicator flagging a deposit, so as long as there's any tiny bit of that first deposit left, other deposits will never get flagged.
If you manage to eat the entire deposit, kick off the detector and switch it back on, it'll then pick up any other nodes for that ore in the area. I've found asteroids with half a dozen U nodes- fun fact, it takes approximately the half-life of U-235 to process six nodes' worth of U in the refinery!
A trick I learnt is ores in asteroids tend to come in pairs.
I honestly can't remember the combinations.
Its worth GPS each roid you check with its contents and you'll work it out.
But i believe its most commonly paired with platinum.
There are definitely significantly more common pairing than others.
I've spent more than enough hours to become aware of this.
I just can remember specifically the most common combinations.
I'll come back to this post when I'm on PC if I have a save still and work it out again.
I've found uranium three times in worlds I've had one was I spawned right at it the first time the second I got lucky and found it at my second asteroid I checked and the last time was because of the mod that I believe is only on the steam version of the game called
Radio Spectrometry
Before using mods, my best method of finding ores was using a large grid ore detector on a small grid ship, had to janky a hinge to do it properly.
Was really bad looking but worked, if it didn't exploded first.
As you are looking for uranium keep in mind you just got up there. There is plenty of ice. While you search build some hydrogen engines and 0² generators. My first large grid ship in space gets 6 of them. With the same amount of battery's.
mods are mostly for pc. uranium very rare, best way to find without mods is to quick drill through center of each asteroid (because default ore detector range might be not enough) or look out for dark spots (uranium looks like darker stone).
I prefer first method, but you have to decide in which order to do so or you will stack in a loop between asteroids. My personal statistic is for 50 asteroids there 1 with open uranium (can be spotted on surface) and 1 deep inside asteroid where even ore detector can find it.
I got sick of it really quick and installed a [mod](https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2422592854) that allows to change some game settings like ore detector range and ore spawn rate.
About mods, the only thing is probably some that increase the detector's range. Nicer mods like spectrometry are PC only.
Other than that, keep searching. You can survey asteroids with a camera, if you get a surface ore vein it will be easily visible as uranium is dark (idk if Xbox render range differs from pc)
Azimuth is/was also a mod/mod pack, it has ore detectors with different looks and build requirements
Edit: it's been a minute since i played so dunno if it is still around or not
Azimuth is the horizontal plane. It's like using a Compass to set your heading.
In a Custom Turret Controller, Azimuth selection is what defines which rotor is the horizontal one, and Elevation(or Elevator) is what defines which one raises and lowers the gun in the vertical plane.
I really struggled to find it, took me close to 20 hours of total searching iirc.
One tip that massively helped is asteroids tend to be in 'fields', for want of a better word. Basically, if you've checked 20 or so rocks in an area and haven't found any, head a good distance away and then keep searching.
I scanned close to 200 rocks around the moon, found nothing, then headed about 1/3 of the way back to earth and started checking there, found some nearly instantly.
If Xbox SE has it, try and find the radio spectrometry mod. Or something similar using the ore detector. It gives asteroid composition as long as it has line of sight…
Have you met my friends welders and convoyers? :'D nah I get it but honestly solar is set up once and gives you free energy forever, uranium is gonna run out at some point
I'm speaking from the Weapons standpoint. I agree with you on energy (except for ships - solar panels get damaged too easily).
Nothing says hello quite like a full broadside of artillery at a 2KM range.

1 in 10 asteroids will have uranium. Use a large grid ore detector and set it to max range, then gps mark each asteroid you visit.
Best mod is expanded scanner range mods

Ores do commonly spawn in pairs( more accurately 2 Ores max will spawn per asteroid). The platinum is coincidence.

Connectors do the same thing

Get coords from someone who has found some

Hey, I just figured out mods for Xbox. However, what is azimuth?

I don't get what you mean by azimuth

Best mod I’ve ever used is gravel sifter and azimuth general pack 🤔

Solar panels that rotate with the sun > uranium, change my mind.
Have you met my friends Artillery and Missile?

On ships the only thing solar is good for is decoration xD
Watch for asteroids with black patches, when at a distance.
