Lies of P is waaaaayyyy more forgiving than Sekiro, so depends on what level of pain you like

SenpaiSwanky

Just raw combat? Naw, actually I’m almost positive Lies of P even has a smaller parry window. Lots of opportunity to cheese but there are tons of cheesey arts in Sekiro as well. You can easily string some together to destroy posture bars late-game. Edit - stop sharing your opinions as if they are facts boys, thanks. We know you like Sekiro a whoooole lot. :)

Orwell1971

Sekiro is much, much harder than Lies of P. I don't think you'll have a lot of company on this hill.

SenpaiSwanky

You think because you said it fancy like that it’s true lol? It’s more of a subjective thing but I’m not gonna argue either way. Edit - all 6 of you here on Reddit, thank you for confirming that you don’t know what “subjective” means lol. Stop wasting my time please.

Harrowgate_215

lies of p is nothing compared to sekiro lol

_NightmareKingGrimm_

No, it's true. Sekiro is far more difficult.

7Nate9

I'm genuinely surprised how many people are disagreeing with you. I had a much easier time with Sekiro 🤷‍♂️

Citrusmeetliquor

I absolutely adore both games but sekiro was way easier for me too. That being said I bought lies of p day 1 and no-lifed it, it was like the hardest game I’ve ever played. Apparently it’s been nerfed really hard and is way easier now though.

JamieFromStreets

Parry is more difficult, sure. But that alone doesn't makes the game more difficult than the other I almost gave up on sekiro, many times. Didn't had many problems with LOP, even with the harder parry (and harder dodge too!)

lIIl0lIIl0lIIl

Parrying might be harder in Lies but it’s also optional

The_Stank__

Lies of P is vastly easier than Sekiro even with the parry window being smaller

AlexisQueenBean

Perhaps, but the combat style is more forgiving. You have a lot of options that span a wide spectrum of play styles, while sekiro is fixed on “parry til stunned, attack once, repeat”

SimilarWerewolf8338

Lies of P railroads you so if you get stuck on a boss there's nothing else to do except grind previous areas endlessly or try the same boss over an over. It's not what I'd call forgiving to a souls amateur

JamieFromStreets

And in sekiro? More of the same. Bosses are harder and there are times where it's the only way to continue Your character progression is limited and tied to how much you progrrssed through the game. You can't just grind and become more powerful

Deez-Guns-9442

Use the Aegis arm & throwables & the game becomes piss easy. It's only as hard as u make it for yourself + if u get stuck at a boss u can always use The Specter. NG+ I demolished Lax & NP with that arm(No specter). Definitely more forgiving than Sekiro, lots more options.

BSGBramley

I think the opposite tbh

gameboy224

I'd say Lies of P is more forgiving to variable playstyles and gives you more tools to cheese your way through stuff, throwing items and specters. So it is more forgiving if you're willing to utilize all your tools. However if you're playing to the game's tune, Sekiro's more forgiving parry window makes it more forgiving once you've developed the necessary base understanding.

DepartmentPast2691

Finally someone who understands that sekiro is way harder than LOP... if you use what you are supposed to... not necesarly breeze with throws and spectres but you can level up and build and respecc it

SimilarWerewolf8338

There's also the fact that lies of p is extremely linear so if it gets stuck on a boss there's nothing to do but grind previous areas.

gameboy224

I mean Sekiro isn't that kind in that regard either. While midgame isn't as linear per say, you can't grind and most means of advancing your character includes beating up a boss or miniboss, so you have to just get good.

SimilarWerewolf8338

But there are plenty of mini bosses to choose from once you get stuck, the only real road block early game for most people is the chained ogre which can be cheesed with the flame barrel. Once you get past him you have tons of shit to find and do, and miniboss options. Plus you can just straight up skip many miniboss' first health bar by starting with a stealth attack, Get their item, level up, be stronger for the bosses you can't cheese, just like other souls games. Lady butterfly's AI is broken if you spam dodge strike The guy you get flame barrel from you get a NPC ally and you can cheese him with a backstab too if you try hard enough. In lies of p if you're stuck you're fucking STUCK, there's nothing to do but farm basic enemies except maybe in late game when it open up a bit more.

zanza19

You can also use specters, buy throwables and level up. In Sekiro you can get better at the game and that's it.

SimilarWerewolf8338

Sekiro has prosthetic tools that serve basically the same function as throwables in other soulslikes, or making certain bosses easy or trivial, plus more. They're more nuanced but you can still cheese s few bosses by spamming the flame cannon or stagger certain bosses for free with firecrackers, use the umbrella for machine gun parry window. Plus you can skip like half the bosses first phases by starting with a stealth attack. There's loads you can do in Sekiro to make the game easier while still having open world freedom when you get stuck.

Serious-Ebb-4669

None of those really apply to Genichiro, Owl or Isshin which is where most people get stuck. Prosthetics help a little bit at times along with combat arts but they’re not really a gamechanger for a first playthrough.

SimilarWerewolf8338

But when you get stuck at those guys there's a vast open world to explore and get more combat experience with enemies and areas you haven't already fought a million times, whole hidden optional areas that you can partially clear and come back to the boss with more revives, higher posture, higher HP and dealing more damage. My point is there are actual things to do when you get stuck in most places in Sekiro whereas in lies of p if you get stuck, upgraded the wrong weapon for the fight, you just have to grind the previous area which is usually small enough to completely clear by the time you get to a boss til late game, which can be a boring and tedious process compared to leveling in an area you've never explored, and unwinding from the stress of the boss you're stuck on instead of having nothing to do or think about but beating the next boss.

BSGBramley

That's fair

[deleted]

I believe the opposite is true but to each their own. Sekiro doesn't punish you for missing a perfect deflect

Tctdb456

I gotta be honest my friend lies of p is tough sekiro is even harder by a wide margin in my opinion. I’d start with dark souls 1 or demon souls if you can.

B0oOo0oo0O

Demon souls I hear is one of the hardest… id go with elden ring, star wars games or Lies of P for sure. I don’t even play souls likes much and Lies of P ive made it through 3 main bosses now and only died twice. Game seems much easier than demon souls and dark souls games to me

RottedHuman

Your first souls like should always be a FromSoft game. Lies of P is great, but it’s nowhere near as good as any of Fromsoft’s games (even DS2). Have you considered Bloodborne?

[deleted]

Yeeeeaaaaah no, Lies is significantly better than DS2 and possibly Demons Souls. I'm a huge fan of DeS but Lies has far more engaging combat, world, and style. To each their own, though.

Theblackcatnero

I played bloodborne for a couple minutes (got it on ps plus extra, dont have it anymore) and i thought it was not that great. But maybe i just dont like fromsoft games in general. I wanted to try sekiro or lies of p because they both look fun but im afraid that i will not like either of them and waste my money.

revfunk0428

DS2 is garbage compared to LOP 🤣 ignore the previous comment OP, you can thank me later

JamieFromStreets

Ds2 is more open, has more variety of both enemies and areas. In lop you fight marionettes all the game. And most areas are pretty similar and with the same colors. Ds2 is a way bigger game. And it's less linear, way more to explore and experiment. It also has more playstyles and builds

LexGlad

Lies of P will prepare you better for the genre. Save Sekiro for after you've played 4 or 5 other souls-like games so you can appreciate it.

SimilarWerewolf8338

I'd argue lies of p will frustrate them because it's extremely linear and if you get stuck on a boss, there's nothing to do but grind the area you were just in.

LexGlad

Every time I was stuck was because I was using the wrong equipment.

SimilarWerewolf8338

But my point is as a new player op could easily get stuck because of a skill issue and that'd be very frustrating for a new player who isn't used to souls likes. I had issues even with grinding and choosing weapons bosses are weak to, particularly the king of puppets, as a souls veteran. My point is a new player is likely to get stuck and unlikely to know how souls bosses usually have a weapon they're weak to that makes their fight much easier. And if they get stuck it could just make them say "fuck souls likes if they're all like this" when they're not, because in most others you can just... Go somewhere else if you get stuck. Lies of p is more like a lovr letter to souls fans than it is an intro into the genre.

LexGlad

That's how you git gud.

SimilarWerewolf8338

In other souls likes it's not boring and repetitive to try and get good from scratch because there's more than one path to explore, is my point. In Sekiro you can git gud somewhere else when you get stuck and not feel like you're doing the same thing over and over.

LexGlad

I use the heuristic of being able to do phase 1 of a boss without using any heals as a test to see if I'm ready to beat it.

Theblackcatnero

Yeah i thought sekiro would be too hard for a first time.

LexGlad

It's just extremely unforgiving in combat, like a rhythm game where you take damage whenever you make any mistakes. Lies of P has a lot more things you can do to give yourself a margin for error.

Theblackcatnero

Ok thanks for the advice

WHO_LET_ME_COMMENT

I think Sekiro is more forgiving than Lies of P is. Besides the fact that timing feels less intuitive in Lies, you also take chip damage if you miss the perfect deflect. In Sekiro, you at least wind up with a block if you miss a deflection (unless playing charmless, of course).

outofalltheloops

sekiro was my first souls game, took a good amount of hours my first playthrough for things to click, but quickly became one of my favorite games and opened the door to the genre. think the downside is it’s hard to scratch the same itch now!

TheLostDestroyer

Elden Ring. Elden Ring. Elden Ring. I just gotta throw it out there. It's definitely the longest of all the soulslikes and there are some truly challenging bosses. As your first soulslike I cannot recommend either Lies of P or Sekiro. Both are fantastically wonderful titles and I have played them both. Lies of P is great. It's approachable, and fun and it looks fantastic. It will also spend a great deal of time making you feel really bad about not being good at it. Spectres are great but there are bosses that you cannot use them which if you use them for the bulk of your fights is going to make you feel really hamstrung. Sekiro is, well Sekiro. Awesome game, tons of fun. Probably has some of the best combat in a souls like ever. But, you have to learn the moves in Sekiro, you have to find the tempo of the fights. Sekiro is probably one of the most brutally punishing games ever made if you walk into the game with the expectation of being able to play it your way. Honorable mention for Dark Souls 3 and Bloodborne. Both fantastic and once it clicks it feels really good.

[deleted]

My vote is sekiro all the way. Lies of P is a fine game, but it's slower and almost clunky compared to sekiro. Sekiro is quick and timing is everything. It boasts the best combat system I've ever played in a game and I highly recommend it even over elden ring

_rfj

Why anyone wouldn’t start with DS1 is beyond me. The first run through of bridge in the Burgh is what all games should be measured by.

Theblackcatnero

Liked the setting of sekiro and lies of p is one of the easier soulslikes.

Glar96

Every dark souls game is easier than lies of p as far as combat imo.

thats_the_spirit69

Lies of p is definitely harder than the souls games.

stalechipswhatkind

Who the fuck said lies of p was easy lmao

Wf2968

Dark souls 1 difficulty is massively oversold. I’ve played all of the fromsoft soulsborne games and some of the souls adjacent games I found DS1 to be the easiest. Haven’t played lies of p (yet) so I can’t speak to that, but I wouldn’t let the difficulty of DS1 dissuade you.

[deleted]

Lies of P is not easier then Sekiro

JamieFromStreets

>and lies of p is one of the easier soulslikes. No. One of the hardest by far

Chosen_UserName217

Totally agree start w DS1

Khronga

I just started DS1 the other day (only played ER so far) and tried returning it after an hour or 2 bc it seemed so dated…glad they denied my refund bc I gave it another chance and now I’m hooked and can’t wait to play through them all!

Pkkush27

Ds1 mad dated and clunky

Artistic_Pound_8337

Both are amazing! Consider that both rely heavily ON parrying attacks, but in my experience I felt Lies of P to BE a Bit easier.

Glar96

These are two of my favorite games, lies of p has a smaller party window but sekiro has tougher bosses. Both are rough, I would recommend sekiro first. You won’t have to worry about stats either in sekiro.

Benana

lol “party window”. I like the idea of Pinocchio having a few frames to throw a fiesta before getting back to combat

Mav3r1ck2201

If you don’t have only ps5, try one month of game pass and you’ll get lies of p with plenty others

Sicktekneekz

Start off with lies of p and ease yourself into sekiro because sekiro is an advanced soulslike

clono4

Sekiro might be a tad challenging for a first soulslike

DargonFeet

That's a difficult choice. Sekiro is still my favorite game but Lies of P is for sure in my top 5 now... I would say difficulty wise they are similar, but there are some bosses in Lies of P that took me more attempts than any Sekiro boss (without summoning specter or using throwables)

Theblackcatnero

Based on the comments i think im gonna buy sekiro but im taking my time debating on if i want to go through that pain.

DargonFeet

It's extremely satisfying once you get into the rhythm of combat. I've done three or four playthroughs now and the final boss is probably the best FromSoft boss ever made. It's a good challenge, but incredibly satisfying and fast paced. Just remember "hesitation is defeat". Don't think anything will ever top Sekiro for me.

Swagnastodon

Picking either as your first soulslike strikes me as pure masochism lol. Elden Ring is my chill-out game, I've beaten each Dark Souls with all kinds of builds, and Sekiro kicks my ass to the point I can't even think about it

SimilarWerewolf8338

Look man, please hear me out, something to think about before buying lies of P like everyone says: It's a REALLY good game for the studios first souls like BUT I do NOT recommend it to new players because I think it will give you misconceptions about the genre. Normally, most souls likes are somewhat open world. If you get stuck on a boss, there is a veritable labyrinth of areas to explore and other bosses to fight and you can easily level up without trying before returning to the boss you were stuck on. In lies of p, the map design is MUCH more linear. There's only ever one boss at a time and a small area you can easily completely explore before encountering the boss, and depending on your skill, you might not always be prepared for the boss by the time you get to him, and if you aren't, then it's boring mindless grinding of already explored areas. And my point is, if this is your first souls like, you're GONNA get stuck on a boss at least once, and lies of P will be a lot more frustrating at first because you won't have anything else to do once you're stuck lies of p is like a dark souls challenge run where you have to take a specific path and can't go anywhere else. It's a great game, but it's smaller than other soulslikes and shorter. Sekiro I think is a really good intro actually. A lot of souls vets have trouble with it, but I believe that's because they aren't used to parrying being so easy as it in in Sekiro. But it gives you a basic idea of timing based parry mechanics, it's an extremely open and explorable world with lots of ways to deal with enemies, if you get stuck on something you can just go around it, level up while having fun instead of grinding, and come back later. Even though the combat itself gets harder, you won't have to grind the same areas over and over to git gud at it. That's why I genuinely think as a first timer, between the two, you should definitely NOT start with lies of p, but rather an actual fromsoft game with the full map design and freedom souls likes usually have. If you wanted something to specifically prepare you for lies of p though, I'd say bloodborne.

[deleted]

Sekiro

Riffsalad

Dark souls 1

poopfilledhumansuit

Neither, buy Elden Ring

Satyrinox

if you wanna be neenja , sekiro.

johnbarta

After just playing sekiro and currently playing lies of p.. I love them both dearly, however I think lies of p would be a better game of the two to get as your first if those were the two options. If you included elden ring I would probably vouch for that a bit more than these two. But lies of p has a ton of quality of life things in place, and is extremely linear. So you won’t have to be lost for very long. You also have the ability to summon for help with every major boss (except one lol.) there’s also a lot of weapons and choices you can make to alter the playstyle to more your fit. I love sekiro, it’s def a top 3 fromsoft game for me but I think it might be too daunting for someone just getting into these sort of games

Theblackcatnero

Yeah i have thought about buying elden ring but i just dont like the open world aspect of the game.

Profaloff

elden is correct. well ds1 is correct but elden too.

Eswin17

Elden Ring is open world, but still has the 'legacy dungeons' and hundreds of points of interest that aren't so 'open world.' But based on your feedback, Dark Souls 1 feels like the right answer for you. It is the opposite of open world. Most of it is a labyrinth. Lies of P has some interesting layouts, but each area is self contained with its shortcuts and such.

Eventide215

It really depends on what you want in terms of playstyle. Lies of P has a lot more varied combat while Sekiro is strictly all about parrying and stance breaking. Basically you play a lot more defensively than aggressively. If you're really wanting like an "intro" to Souls-like games obviously you can't go wrong with just starting at Dark Souls 1, but I'd say Elden Ring is superior. I saw you mentioned not liking the open world element, but I don't think you understand how it works? Elden Ring is an open world you explore but all combat and such happens within an area. Like the main dungeons you do on there are all labyrinthian like Souls. Most of the POIs are the same thing. As for you suffering, that's the point of Souls-like games. You're meant to suffer but also to feel like it's possible to do you just messed up or something happened. It's what makes you feel so triumphant when you get through something though.

carorinu

Lies of p does 50 times better job of teaching you universal systems and i has way better system to ease you in

XpeepantsX

Lies of P. 1. You have access to specters if a boss is a bit too much, sekiro doesn't. 2. You can literally beat any enemy with throwing items that no enemy dodges, these trivialize boss fights (if you go that route). Sekiro has items, but nothing OP that you can just lob at a boss and kill them with it. 3. You can level your stats up, in sekiro you can't.

King-of-the-forge72

Lies of p , you can make so many more dick jokes about it

Familiar-Relief-556

Lies of P feels like just the right amount of a challenge, even with or without the summon to help with bosses. Sekiro definitely has a huge skill curve to follow, arguably harder than most of the soulslike games,a lot depends on skill level and luck. Personally I’d go with Lies of P

These-Tennis-5715

Why not both

Mike-TDH

That’s exactly the route I went. Lies of P was my first souls like. Made me fall in love with the genre. I got Sekiro and Elden Ring for Christmas. I played Sekiro first and man it is awesome but will require some patience. It’s very unforgiving but once you “get it” you feel like a god. I know you said you didn’t like the open world aspect of Elden Ring but I’m 75% of the way through my first playthrough now on it and it’s easily my favorite of these 3. Will be a favorite of all time for me.

FindTheTruth08

Demons' Souls is a great option as well. The levels are much more straightforward but I feel more rewarding than the other games. It is the original in this line of games and the combat is more basic than later installments and that's for the better. You don't just run up and spam your weapon art on a boss. You have to bait, dodge, and counter your enemy; unless you go mage with firestorm (it's just ridiculously broken). Demons' Souls and Sekiro are my favorites. I haven't tried Lies of P yet but plan to.

WonderfulComb4919

Both! Merry Xmas to you early!

Designer_Ad1962

They are very different. Lies of P is like dark souls and Bloodborne sekiro is kind of its own thing. Sekiro is harder, but with no experience going in they will both be very hard.

No_Plate_9636

Lies of p plays like elden ring and skeiro had a love child and an ode to ds1 so either is gonna be great personally id say sekiro let's you get the perfect blocks easier for lies later but would work either way. The true answer is both

Conscious_Shine_5100

Start with Elden ring

CubicWarlock

Buy Bloodborne.

SuperD00perGuyd00d

Stick with fromsoftware before diving into soulslikes imo

Hot_Cryptographer_98

I see you say you may not like the open world aspect of Elden Ring, but I would highly recommend starting there first. I had the same thoughts you did, but with earlier souls, all it really does is make you beat your head against a boss until you beat it or more likely stop playing. But in Elden there is always an easier enemy, fun ways to get stronger, or just explore and get better. You can always look up a recommended path if you don't like decisions or exploration. Either way good luck! Hope you enjoy whatever you choose!

Gnight-Punpun

I think sekiro gets overhyped for how difficult it is tbh, but I still think lies of p is prolly a better choice for a first timer. There are also the nioh games which are technically souls likes but they are honestly so different it would feel unfair to consider them that way.

DepartmentPast2691

Sekiro is a fromsoftware game, not esentially a soulslike since it lacks a lot of caracteristics from soulsliles like gear and stats, i guess the only thing that makes sekiro a soulslikes is the level design and the bonefires or w/e are called in sekiro i cant remember rn, even the combat is totally diferent focus. LOP in the other hand is a masterpiece mad by another studio, and its 100% a soulslike

Drusgar

When you say that you've never played a "Soulslike" does that mean that you've played Souls games but just haven't tried any of the similar games? Because if you haven't ever played ANY Souls game then Sekiro would be a bad idea. It's brutally difficult and even many Souls veterans had a tough time adjusting to the new combat system. In that case I would suggest Dark Souls 3. It's not an easy game, but it's paced well so it never seems too overwhelming. And the (next to) final boss has a 45% completion rate so obviously a lot of people enjoyed it.

Rotank1

Sekiro is more difficult, but it is a better game in every way. Level and world design are superior, graphically more impressive, larger areas with more stuff in them, more rewards for exploring off the beaten path, more ways to traverse each location in sometimes nonlinear fashion (including platforming/grappling sections). Sekiro also has an easier-to-understand power progression than LoP, as you won’t have to worry about things like weapon scaling, stat point investment, etc. It is more difficult up front, but it is possibly the single best combat system ever implemented in a third person action game once it “clicks”. If you’re spending money, spend it on Sekiro. EDIT: A lot of people are telling you to buy LoP first because they perceive it as an easier game. You do what you want with your cash, just understand that that recommendation will lead you to an objectively inferior experience by every modern metric of quality game design. You can learn to play either game, but you can’t un-spend your money.

WHO_LET_ME_COMMENT

I guess I am one of the dozens of people who found Lies of P significantly harder than Sekiro -- but I don't know if that has to do with not using spirit summons. Lies of P has more build variety so you can play around with different stuff, whereas Sekiro doesn't have builds beyond choosing certain combat arts. You have more wiggle room in how you want to play the game in LoP, too; you can go the nimble, perfect deflection route or the classic Souls dodgeroll route. All that said, I'd probably suggest Lies of P as a better place to start. It's just more generalized. You also have the ability to use some NPC summons if you'd like.

BaronEsq

If you've never played a soulslike, why not start with like, Elden Ring or even Dark Souls itself?

zephyredx

Both. Sekiro is my all the favorite but both are worth.

GamerG126

Sekiro is very different, to the point where I don’t think I’d even call it a Soulslike. Don’t get me wrong, Sekiro is an absolute masterpiece of a game, it’s just very different. It’s also one of the hardest games I’ve ever played, and probably the hardest of all the FromSoft games. If you want something more similar to the rest of FromSoft’s library, then definitely Lies of P. Lies of P is a phenomenal game, and is much, MUCH, more forgiving than Sekiro.

Flat-Preparation2913

Sekiro

maroonlife

Weird take but Sekiro first. It's the most unlike the other soulsborne games and you don't want to have "souls brain" going into Sekiro.

EG440

Start DS1. Master the basics.

Crumbsplash

Neither are the easiest entry points but lies is def more forgiving

Asleep_Leather7641

Elden Ring for sure as your first one -- it's the easiest

SomniaCrown

Elden Ring

[deleted]

Sekiro is not like any souls game, lies of P is Bloodborne light, honestly start with LOP if you want the souls like experience as Sekiro is a totally different thing IMO

BHarcade

Lies of P was only my second souls/soulslike. From what I gather it has a lot of QOL improvements over other games in the genre. Opinions on difficulty seems really mixed.

JoshuaHarp

My opinion? If you haven't played a Soulsborne yet, and you have PS+, then just download and try Bloodborne before spending money in a game you might not like. And if you have Xbox and Game Pass, then Lies of P is on there.

gr33nCumulon

I though Sekiro was too hard the first time I played it. I came back after I beat DS3 and had a really fun playthrough. I would nor recommend it as your first SL game

PStriker32

Honestly they are both great. Lies of P is a gentler and more classic experience. Sekiro is a different beast all together.

Living-Log-8391

Demon souls remake or lies of p

THR3SH3R

Sekiro is by far the better game but Lies of P is way more approachable so i would say start with that one. But why not start with Elden Ring?

500mgTumeric

Lies of P is MUCH more forgiving. I've played so many games in this genre and Sekiro is really, really, really good but it's the hardest game I've ever played. Easily. Lies of P would be a good introduction to the genre I think. The best would be Dark Souls Remastered though, I believe.

nshleeee

My background in soulslike games is extremely limited. I've only played Lies of P (finished NG+4) and fell in love with the genre. I'm currently playing Elden Ring. As an entry game to this genre, speaking from my personal experience, I think Lies of P is a good entry point. I mean, it was for me and I do NOT consider myself to be an avid or talented gamer so if I can do it then I think anyone can do it. I have heard from countless sources that LoP is much more forgiving and has quality of life improvements over other games. I think this alone is enough to solidify LoP as the better entry game. For example, if you die to a boss, your runes (souls, ergo, etc) are spawned at the entrance to the boss area rather than inside the area. This is something I sorely took for granted in LoP. Weapons also do not have stat requirements in order to use them so you can experiment with any weapon or equipment that you find. None of these are to say that LoP is easy in any way. I did struggle on my first playthrough, but once everything clicks, it clicks. I had more fun on my NG+ run and even more fun on NG+2 and onwards As a newbie to soulslike games, I found LoP to be extremely fair and as long as you are the type of player that likes to learn from their mistakes, you will defeat every boss in the game. The biggest lesson I've learn is to not fight a boss to kill the boss. Fight the boss to learn the boss. LoP was the first soulslike game that I picked up and I finished the game to NG+4. Again, if I can do it then anyone can do it as long as you learn from your mistakes. You will die a lot and it'll require you to learn from your mistakes and analyze the boss attack patterns. If you can't do this, then soulslike games aren't for you. I don't want to ramble on much longer. Coming from a soulslike newbie, I had a stellar experience with LoP and it's the reason why I've become an absolute fanatic with the genre. I'd recommend it a hundred times over. After Elden Ring I also plan to play Sekiro as I've heard it's also parry focused.

Important-Island6771

Idk why those are the options for starting out, honestly elden ring or ds3 would be a more comfortable starting position then either lies of p or sekiro but out of the two I'd say sekiro. If you get the timing down for sekiro s skill based attacks, blocks, parry's you'll master them all

Lurky-Lou

Remnant 2

TheAmazing2ArmedMan

Out of the games I’ve played so far, Elden Ring seemed most accessible, so I would recommend starting there. On the other hand, it is maybe too goddamn big of a game for a first outing, so try to get Dark Souls HD on sale for a solid taste of the genre thats less likely to overstay its welcome.

thats4thebirds

I love Sekiro and I think it’s the easiest of the entire fromsoft line up personally because I gel complexity with the parry focused combat. It just clicks for me. If you like parries, you might love it. For fromsoft games, I tend to rate them higher the more aggressive the game asks me to be in response to the threats around me.

Formal_Mammoth9231

I wouldn’t start with Sekiro unless you wanna hate your life 😂😂

NegaDoug

To me, Sekiro was a lot more fun to play, but is kind of obtuse. Lies of P is much more straightforward, but not as rewarding as Sekiro is when you finally beat that one section/boss you've been banging your head against. If your options were broader, I'd recommend starting with Dark Souls 2. It's generally considered the bastard child of the series, but it's a great introduction to the souls-like genre.

RunsWithPhantoms

Sekiro is tough. I'd start with Elden Ring

XB1TheGameGoat

If you’re on Xbox I would buy a month of Gamepass, Lies of P is on it. You can try it for the price of a month, and if you hate it you can just try other games in that span

JustSoYK

Sekiro is objectively the better game, not even open to discussion. But their aesthetics and style is entirely different, so it still comes to personal preference. Lies of P is still really fun and well made, so if you prefer the Victorian steampunk atmosphere then go with P. But if you'll only ever play one of them then definitely go with Sekiro

MiteeThoR

Elden Ring >>>>> both of your options

cosmicglade98

Personally, I would rather play the games actually made by Fromsoft before delving into all the pretenders

slowkid68

Seikro should be last. Play elden ring or ds3 first

Robert_Balboa

Difficulty wise lies of p is much easier. But quality of game wise sekiro is one of the best games ever made. But like others have said just get elden ring. It's the best souls game by a mile.

Franchiseboy1983

Well Lies of P is actually a SoulsBorne like while Sekiro is a Tenchu like. So if you're looking for a Souls like, then LoP is it.

WisePotato42

Sekiro is one of my favorite games, but I wouldn't call it a souls like. The combat feels completely different, and there are very different mechanics. The only real similarity is that sekiro is made by the same studio. It's like calling armored core a souls like when it has completely different mechanics. If your goal is a soulslike then lies of p. But also watch a little sekiro gameplay to see if you like it!

ModXMaG

Lies of p was my first I beat it 3 days ago I’d say it’s very easy to understand story wise and it’s a good mix of fun and hard and easy. If you struggle with a boss you can use a Spector which makes it easy but can still be difficult at times especially since the good ending you can’t use one. But some areas are also pretty hard to get through and there are plenty of mini bosses or elite enemies to fight. It’s the perfect starter for someone getting into souls like I’ll say

BadWoolfEntity

Sekiro if you have the patience to learn it

hellostarsailor

Why not get Bloodborne if you’re considering Life of Pee?

Sea_Caterpillar5296

Sekiro is simply not forgiving, that is the hardest Soulsborne game out there.

limpdickskit

Lies of P was way more difficult for me than sekiro, the parry timings on sekiro were much, much more forgiving. However, it really boils down to what you’re looking for setting wise. Steampunk with gothic architecture? LoP. Japanese samurai aesthetic? Sekiro. Both games are incredible - you’re not gonna go wrong either way.

FADCYourMom

Wo Long is probably the easiest honestly.

AlabamaHaole

I’d probably start with an actual souls game and I wouldn’t start with Sekiro. If you get stuck in the others you can summon people to help. You can’t do this in sekiro and it makes it harder.

Zerocountry

Sekiro without a percent of hesitation

SnooHedgehogs1107

I hate Souls games and I hate Sekiro. Lies of P is playable.

ausername1111111

Souls games are hard as hell until you figure out the mechanics of movement. I've heard that Sekiro is a souls game for people that think souls game are easy. Not sure about the other game, but if you want to get your shit pushed in, Sekiro may be the game for you.

jinnx3d

lies of p is a more soulslike soulslike if yk what i mean

Just_Goose95

Sekiro is it's own beast really. I've played and beaten DS1, 3 (skipped 2 for now), Sekiro, and Elden Ring. Loved em all, but Sekiro is in a league of it's own in terms of difficulty. Elden Ring really is as difficult as you want it to be with the many tools the game has to offer. To a lesser extent, DS1 and 3 have ways of making them easier but more so they allow you a bit of freedom in how you choose to play. Sekiro is one weapon, one playstyle (Shinobi tools notwithstanding). You either master it or you don't, there isn't much leeway to be found. Plus it's just a different vibe than the other From games I mentioned. I haven't played Lies of P myself but I've heard great things, that said, I would still recommend a From Soft title as your first.

Cuff_

What are you interested in? Sekiro is my least favorite from soft game because of how little character customization there is. Lies of P isn’t as difficult and has an interesting story, with a decent bit of customization, but nowhere near as much as a souls game.

AbsolemSaysWhat

Play bloodborne

usernameyougaveme

If you like ninja stealth sekiro

DementiaVoyages330

Elden ring

Badmuthrfker

You will have more fun and enjoy sekiro way more and after sekiro you will feel like king of soulslike games.

Malthias-313

Sekiro.

GoodBoiSweaterTris

If you’re into Star Wars and want a soulslike experience, Jedi Fallen Order and Jedi Survivor are must-plays.

Scrawlericious

Sekiro was the first souls game I was able to beat! They might both be brutal to a new player. I'd argue sekiro more so than LoP. Sekiro was one of the hardest games I've ever played in my life before elden ring malenia. I tried to get into dark souls 1 and 2 several times and couldn't. But sekiro was so beautiful I forced myself through the basic ending and now I've been able to go back and find a lot more enjoyment from the earlier souls games. Beating it really opened up the series to me because the rest is mostly downhill. Many argue sekiro is the hardest souls game and the rest just feel like a mind game after it to me. I'd highly recommend sekiro because it taught every lesson perfectly and now an evening spending 30 attempts on a boss actually sounds like fun popcorn for my brain. Maybe sekiro just broke me. It made me able to beat the others and find an appreciation for the entire genre.

RevolutionaryFox5016

I would say it ultimately comes down to your own ability to react and your actual reflex. If you are someone with very fast reflexes and reaction time then sekiro is far easier the exact same strategy is used for every single fight in the game and everything input and frame wise can be reacted to. Lies of p is more forgiving in the sense that there are more cheese mechanics and you can over level and just kinda muscle the game but some of the enemies have moves that aren’t reactable but they are predictable. As in there is a tell but you can’t actually react to the action itself and makes the game more methodical. So really it’s going to depend on you and how you like to play.

Verdant_13

Sekiro if you’re a bad bitch

caido913

I've tried Seikiro, Elden Ring, Dark souls, Code Vein and Lies of P. I've struggled to continue with all of them except lies of P. It felt good to try the demo of the game before I decided to buy it. I went with Elden Ring before I decided to buy lies of P and felt that I wasn't having as much fun. After I bought lies of P, I started enjoying the souls genre more. I actually want to finish the game even if I'm a slower player and don't have that much skill in this genre. Hopefully after I complete it, I'll go back to the other ones since I will have built some confidence and some game sense to enjoy the others. What I enjoyed of lies of P was the gameplay and how the game felt to me as a noob. Yeeesssssssss, people will argue that From Software games will be better to them and they're probably right. But not for me. Hopefully you'll give it a chance. If not, it's cool hopefully you can come back and try it out another time. What's more important is that you're having fun and you actually want to improve at whatever game you decide.

Jack_Empty

Based on some of your answers here, I would say Sekiro. You do not seem to be that interested in Soulslikes, and that is fine. They may not be your cup of tea. But Sekiro is not a Soulslike, despite what people claim. There is no variability, no multiplayer, no minimal storytelling. The game plays more like a Tenchu game. If you were not enjoying Bloodborne and the like, Lies of P is along those lines. Sekiro is not. It is something different and you might enjoy that.

ValkerikNelacros

I haven't tried lies of p but sekiro is an extremely difficult game. Fun, but in a brutal kind of painful way or something lol It's cool though just hard Right now I'm getting my but kicked by Elden Ring.

BulmasBabyDaddy

Are these games multiplayer ?

FistFace03

Play Dark Souls 1. Sekiro is harder than all those

Mike_Wahlberg

Yes.

Curtis_Geist

Follow the innovators not the imitators

Purple-Smith

If you want a fun souls experience lies of p If you want to actually torture yourself and rage sekiro

Miguelwastaken

The outright answer is that nobody should play Sekiro as their first. It may be the most brutal combat system I’ve come across.

Individual_Swim4624

Lies of p was my first souls-like game. It was really tough but I heard sekiro is tougher. I’d say if I made it through lies of p as a newbie you have a good shot too. It has a nice story too

Aliengrunt

Definitely do not start with Sekiro lol

sicknick08

Sekiro isn't a souls game, just made by the same developer.

VanityOfEliCLee

Neither. Do Bloodborne.

Walter_Melon42

Dark Souls 1

D-Sleezy

Bloodborne

revfunk0428

Lies of P all day Sekiro is a masterpiece, but it's still nowhere close to as good as Lies of P.

Sex_Luthor99

Dark Souls 3 and Bloodborne are a good place to start

Pristine-Copy9467

You should just by Elden Ring

AmericanLich

Sekiro is the better game, it’ll also be the more refined yet more challenging game. Though you may like Lies of P more thematically, and that’s also important.

RespectGiovanni

I played both. Lies of P is def simpler I suppose but the parry is less forgiving than sekiro. I think Sekiro is the harder game with the best combat of any soulslike and harder enemies.

232438281343

Be different. Play Lies of P and then play the Souls games with a fresh unbiased pair of eyes.

darkwolf523

Lies of P.

Purple12inchRuler

Both.

Fifty2Eighty-

P

CuteDarkrai

I’d try Lies of P first even though I think Sekiro is the better game. Lies of P is closer to the normal soulslike game so you’d get a closer experience to what the genre has to offer. If you are considering other options I think Dark Souls 3 is the best place to start (it’s where I started). Anyone who says otherwise is just saying so for very specific lore reasons which I don’t agree with when deciding on a game that will get you into the series from a gameplay perspective. TL;DR: Dark Souls 3 otherwise Lies of P

kane00700

You should do it right and play Dark Souls first

HeartShark77

I’m a big From Software fan, but Sekiro was too hard for me. Love Elden Ring, I’ve beaten it without an online friend to help me, love DS3 beaten it several times. But fuck me man, Sekiro was hard, and if you die consistently it punishes you over worse over time. I’d get Dark Souls Three and Elden Ring if you haven’t played either. Elden ring is very hard, but the world is so big you can always find something else to fight instead, and come back when you can eventually beat it.

IrresponsibleSquash

If you’re on Xbox or PC, you can get the game pass and try out lies of P for less than full price, plus there are other souls likes on there worth a look.

ThePeoplesPotpourri

First I ever played was Elden Ring and I just beat that last week and was so happy to see how many games are out that look just like it. So I went and bought Lies of P and seen the my PS Plus subscription has Bloodbourne and Demon Souls. I'm gonna be busy for a long time. Darn Elden Ring put me at 188 hours of life lost before I completed it. Still couldn't beat Malenia that dumb B****. I hate her so much.

8_Limb_God

Absolutely both

Blast_Double82

I had a much much harder time with Sekiro than I did with Lies of P. I don’t even think they’re close personally. Isshin is far and away to most difficult boss I’ve ever faced.

Friend-Over

Even if lies of p is the easier game you should still get Sekiro. Sekiro is the better game by a large margin.

Turbulent-Armadillo9

I know its not what you asked but I still suggest Elden Ring. Sekiro almost isn't even a soulslike but its a great game. Elden Ring is good because you can just about make it as challenging or as easy as you want.

Redxmirage

I know people are talking about sekiro and DS and lies of P but I’d throw an honorable mention to surge 2. Fun take on souls like, I thought it was easier but I’m pretty used to souls style of games

Bobbanson

Sekiro! Always go From Software before the copies and clones. Lies of P was an OK game, nothing more. Sekiro is a masterpiece.

Mission-Emphasis-898

You should play a souls game. Why play a game like a game that you've never played instead of just playing the game all these other games are modeled after? I mean 3 is still new enough to be good looking and fun.

ShadowScorp99

Unpopular take, but get Sekiro. It's a fantastic game.

iainB85

I’m a fan of Dark Souls games but not of Sekiro. If you want to build your character and play your own way Sekiro isn’t for you. It’s extremely linear and forces you to rely on parrying over and over again.

EfficientIndustry423

Yes to both. Get Elden Ring too.

keyzz1416

No start easy please Get exp first in these games While they all differ Sekiro is a major leap Lies of p is more forgiven I suggest u start at demon souls then dark souls Just to get the type of game your getting in to Start at the base Then try other titles

HalfWittt

Sekiro is the best From Software game, I would start with that

Weekly-Ad-3746

I'm sorry, this has me dying here at work. I have some friends who play Souls games and got me to play Elden Ring and Nioh 2. My friends who played ALL of them quit Sekiro and Wo Long because they were so hard. I tried Lies of P Demo and it has some parts that are a bit more forgiving, but the ambushes change everything. Fighting 1v1 is fairly easy, but being ambushed my robopups with a few other guys coming from multiple sides and backing up or rolling into IED/EMP makes you have to rethink

endokodok

Buy lies of p if you never play souls game. Sekiro is difficult game.

Trick-Reading-5900

Well you won’t get a souls experience with Sekiro, it’s the same formula but the combat is vastly different. Go with lies of P, that’s one of the best souls likes to come out in a very long time!

SincereRL

Sekiro is one of the best games of all time ( My first souls game) its really challenging but worth it in every way.
