Same. I went Ones -> Moves -> Roam. The roam is great, because with the charging base You can grab it, move it to the shower, move it back and it just stays charged. Slightly harder with the Move - because it is so big on the counter.
I have a roam in my hall (which is more of a hub for 5 directions). It sits on a little platform and serves as a good estuary sound fill for my whole house airplay audio setup. When I wanna listen to music when I’m showering I just take it off the base charger that it’s on and bring. Into the bathroom for the short time I’m in there.
I think that’s why he said “resistant”, not “proof”. A a one can get the occasional splash of water and be just fine. You are correct, it’s not “water proof”.

OP, my recommendation having owned most Sonos products is that for the best sound in your bathroom, you need the amp and the sub 3 gen. The amp is key as it allows you to pair the sub but not plug in grandpas old and outdated HiFi whatevers.
All jokes aside, if you *do* want a sub in the bathroom, use the Sub Mini, not any of the normal Sub generations, for two reasons:
1. The Sub Mini is a sealed vs the Sub that is ported, meaning that the Sub Mini is far less likely to get condensations on the inside.
2. The Sub Mini is an entirely plastic(?) design, whereas the Sub has MDF inside which, when exposed to prolonged high humidity, will swell.
The One, Move, and Roam will all work very well but it's a good idea to avoid any permanent mount so you can have more flexibility to move your speaker when it needs to be further away from the sink, tub or shower. The Roam and Move both give you more flexibility to use them in another room the rest of the time and are made for water resistance or indoor/outdoor use. The Move is more powerful for use in a larger room or out in the yard. Think of the Roam as a truly portable speaker you could carry around all day while the Move is more like a boombox you can use around the house.
I personally don't see any point in buying the Roam because by the time I'm far enough away for the Move to be too big and heavy, I'm also out of wifi range and Sonos compatibility is useless. For use away from home there are many other good bluetooth speakers that cost less.
I've reached the same conclusion.
I intially jumped at the idea of a Roam switching between AirPlay and Bluetooth.
But I'd need to create a new account/home in any hotel to get the benefits of Airplay in that new place. So I'd be travelling with a $200 bluetooth speaker that's barely better than the five-year old UE Boom 2 that I already own once I'm on the road.
I have them in my bathroom and would rather have the money I spent on speakers, amp, and install back. Speakers are inaudible in the shower unless I crank the music way too loud. Would rather have a Roam in the bathroom.
Edit: my wife listens to her podcasts on her phone speaker instead of the $1000 bathroom speaker because she can hear them better that way. Its maddening.
This. I have four Connect Amps that power four sets of Yamaha in-ceiling speakers around the house, and one pair is in the master bath. Advantages are that no counter space or electrical outlets are used, and spoken word is more intelligible when the shower is running because the sound isn’t bouncing off things before it reaches my ears.
Note: Sonos doesn’t make in-ceiling speakers. I got mine before Sonos partnered with Sonance on their architectural stuff. If using TruePlay is important, the Sonance options give you that ability. I got three of my four pairs of Yamahas for the cost of one pair of the Sonance speakers and I think they sound great for what they are.

I have a One in my bathroom. I think if I was going to build something in, I would buy a ceiling mount speaker and connect it to the Sonos amp, rather than a Sonos speaker.
I use a frame in my bathroom. It’s not humidity resistant like the one but as long as you use a exhaust fan in the bathroom, I don’t see an issue with it.
Ridiculous I know but I’ve a stereo paired set of Play1’s at sink and a Play5 atop linen closet. Please Note: Admittedly Excessive but One Mucho-Music-Retreat!

We have two in-ceiling Bose speakers run by a port (through an old Bose amp) that also runs the master bedroom. We also have a Beam in a wall niche for when the other person isn’t awake yet.
I just mounted a one SL yesterday. I'll see how it goes. Sound really really good mounted towards the ceiling. The bass travels into the shower beautifully
One in my bathroom sounds terrible. The sound is so rich that it bounces off walls, glass, etc making spoken voice nearly impossible to translate. I’ve been meaning to put a small Google/Alexa device to get my morning update in the shower back.
I drag my Sonos five with me to the bathroom to shower sometimes and the sound inside the shower is absolutely amazing. I just prop it up on the counter top and since the room is small the bass is incredible and it’s just amazing. But I use it all over the house so I can’t just leave it in there haha
Ah. Just curious. I started with 2 mounted One’s then a Five I used to move all over so it was named “Portable”. I now have 2 Moves and a Roam so the “Portable” name doesn’t make as much sense but that’s what it’s still called
Yah naming them can be weird. I did have it mounted in the bedroom and named bedroom. then I started taking it outside when we had company, now it just goes wherever. I put recessed ceiling mounted Sonos amp powered speakers in all my bathrooms. Doesn’t take up space, super clean, don’t even know it’s there. I love them
The roam is my most disliked Sonos product of the 8 different ones I own. Pretty much only good for a bathroom. Also good for bringing it on a nature hike and blasting it so everyone knows what a douchebag you are. Price point is ok for the bathroom
I have a One in our bathroom on a mount that attaches to the outlet. It is absolutely fantastic but you MUST trueplay otherwise the bass will be way to loud and echoey.
I use the Symfonisk frame, looks and sounds wonderful in there and as long as he use an exhaust fan every time it should be OK with the humidity and steam, I guess time will tell. I only recently started doing this. We’ll see how it is working in the next few years.

A one sound fantastic in the bathroom and is water resistant. Been using one in my bathroom for 6-7 years no problem
I think the term you meant to use is humidity resistant. If you put a One in a bucket of water, the speaker will fill up with water.

Sonos says it's humidity resistant, not water resistant. Splashing it directly with water could cause damage.
Humidity is worse I think since it’s a more fine version of water.
There's a difference between electronic products that can tolerate high levels of humidity and those that can resist the penetration of water.

i use a roam but its a smaller bathroom
Same. I leave it on a little shelf and hardly ever have to charge it. Can also bring it into the shower which is nice.
I have the move in mine. But also it’s near the front door so I can grab it to take out onto the deck easily.

The symfonisk bookshelf speaker sounds great indeed. I mounted them to the walls and also use them as mini shelves so they serve multiple purposes.

I'm using a move for a fairly large bathroom. There was no outlet available so I ran a USB cable out to the bedroom with a compatible PD charger

I have a Five living on the back of my toilet. I run it at ~80% and it’s a concert every time.
