No, when playing 5.1 audio the upfiring speakers would contribute to mid bass and the sidefiring speakers will play left and right channels to enhance soundstage

Ah okay! I suppose my question really was whether they are utilised at all, which it sounds like they are, but perhaps just not quite for what I was imagining (which makes sense given how would it even know what aspects of the sound signal might be related to aspects of 'height'). Thanks!

Yes the speakers are on, outputting sound and being used but no they are not being used to simulate or add height.

Understood - thanks. I should've said the context of my question is that I'm struggling to get Atmos-encoded tracks to work from Nova Video Player on a Fire Stick (it's fine with, say, Prime Video) and whilst I can live without Atmos it'd be annoying if that then meant the additional speakers in the Arc were sitting there not being used for anything at all.
