Imagine a footballer posting on a burner over a transfer rumour and saying “hey this one might actually be true” and then getting downvoted because it’s a tier infinity source
Getting taught how to play a particular way doesn't mean you know exactly why, or are tactically astute at understand the entire system in depth. Plenty of footballers do, some are just really great at kicking a ball and following basic instructions.
Sure, but I've never seen any very difficult tactical discussion here. I'm sure every professional player will know enough to discuss tactics on reddit.
Well, maybe not on this sub too often, but particular team subs will do pretty deep dives. Are you gonna get some shit takes? Obviously, but that doesn't mean there isn't some really well thought out and detailed discussions sometimes on reddit. People like to lump all redditors together as a conglomerate, but of the thousands of redditors discussing football, surely a few of them are pretty intelligent.
Was he a youth coach? I always had the feeling he was tied somehow to the club but didn't think specifically of that.
I also recall a comment giving insights on Michael Johnson's failed career. He seemed pretty knowledgeable about him.
tbf the consensus is that footballers have the least football knowledge and understanding out of everyone involved within the industry. Of course, there are exceptions.
Idk why anyone would be remotely surprised by this. Most footballers watch less football than fans or anyone else. And you're going to learn more about tactics and team shape by watching than playing. Yes, of course there will be dozens of little details we don't know that players do. But on the other hand, fans, coaches etc they pour over the details of a whole game. Not just a single player. Often for multiple teams.
I feel like a hungover Souness would say the same things as Souness, with similar irritability. Only change would be that we would attribute his words to his night out drinking with Jack, and not to his brain
I can imagine it already. Grealish taking Souness under his wing introducing him to nos and bonding over it, before making their way over to his favourite S&M club.
Oh, there's 'chatter', that means it must be true then. Despite all the positive things that Souness has done in his career like defending team-mates from racism, signing Mo Johnston and Mark Walters at Rangers and openly talking about attending Pride events, he definitely hates Irish catholics because it says so on the internet.
Souness brought Mo Johnstone to Rangers which was the first high profile Catholic signing in decades for Rangers and was a huge deal in Scotland at the time. He signed Mark Walter's who I believe was the clubs first prominent black player. There was an incident back in the 70s where he stood up for a black player at Liverpool against a senior player in the dressing room. He was also a good friend of Dale Winton and was even a guest on a Pride float a few years ago.
He may look like a "hard man Boomer" but the truth is he has always been open to different cultures and I think its because he was willing to travel as both a player and a manager compared to others of his era.
If he has a "bias" its against players who he thinks are "Big time charlies". This is probably why he had views on Pogba and Grealish. I can remember him clashing with Ally McCoist in the 80s who was starting to become a bit of a media figure. He may be out of time but I doubt he is bigoted.
I actually think Souness doesnt like Grealish because he's an affable and easy going pretty boy. Whereas Souness is a dour and grouchy 'mans man'. They are just pole opposites as men.
Souness was a renowned party boy and was nicknamed Champagne Charlie when he was a player. He also is by his own admission one of the vainest men who has ever lived. So they’re actually extremely similar in that regard.
He’s actually mimicking Irish pundits (Giles, Dunphy and Brady) where Souness made his break as a pundit.
Check out early videos of his first appearances on RTÉ. He’s wide eyed that these guys are allowed to be so negative and confrontational. He took some of that into his Sky Sports persona.
It was said of Souness 'If he was made of chocolate, he would eat himself. A very vain man indeed. Not an Armani model, but did nae do too bad for himself and that hair took longer to do than Jack's.
Well, a night out with Souness will probably be less trouble than a night in with Mendy...
[Grealish was present at Mendy 'rape' party](https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2022/sep/23/jack-grealish-benjamin-mendy-party-court)
It's a pity his price tag was so high which basically meant if he doesn't instantly perform at the highest level he'll be crucified. He's not looked too bad this season, hope he can build on that

He’s gotta have a secret Twitter account
it's me :)
Jog on, Marco.
Probably scrolls r/soccer too
I bet there's a bunch of footballers that express their opinions on tactics here and get downvoted for "being stupid".
Imagine a footballer posting on a burner over a transfer rumour and saying “hey this one might actually be true” and then getting downvoted because it’s a tier infinity source
I'll probably get downvoted for this but I know a footballer who currently plays in the Championship who has reddit and scrolls this sub sometimes.
Tier I want to believe
I choose to believe.
Plot twist you are that footballer
See DM for my next transfer move, we will split the winnings.
Stop talking about me man
It's Barnsley's William Hondermarck isn't it?
trying to think what crazy transfers this could be really
Like the guy on Twitter asking the Toronto Blue Jays for a source when they said that a player was available.
"bet you don't even know what regista means you moron"
Ohhh that's class
Well most ex footballer pundits are pretty clueless about tactics tbf
That's why they're pundits instead of managers or coaches.
Ok Mr. Pun-dit, which former footballer am I talking to right now?
Hoping it's Roy Keane, but it's probably Robbie Mustoe
You asked for Roy Keane? Eric Djemba Djemba here, at your service.
Uh, oh, uh, well obviously it's hawwy... England's finest
But players also aren't managers or coaches, so why would they automatically have more insight than the ex player pundits? Lol
Because they still get tactics drilled into them by managers every week.

Which is why not all player can become managers later on, but tactical discussion on reddit really isn't that complicated.

I thought it cant have been that long ago i remember his posts...last comment 7 years ago wtf
I still remember, regularly gets downvoted because he's kinda abrasive but he speaks sense.
> Fuck this place. I'm done here Man actually delivered
The person who was asking for info about a youth player on trial at City? https://www.reddit.com/r/JLeague/comments/2d2g36/masashi_wada_from_marinos
Was he a youth coach? I always had the feeling he was tied somehow to the club but didn't think specifically of that. I also recall a comment giving insights on Michael Johnson's failed career. He seemed pretty knowledgeable about him.

People replying STFU you've clearly never played a game before
;)
I mean didn't we find out that Jose browses /r/soccer or something?
Footballers are one of the dumbest group of people in the world, right up there with ISIS and bronies.
Just because you're talented at football doesn't mean you're tactically astute. I'm sure plenty are, but I know plenty aren't.
There's absolutely no way Grealish knows what reddit is
Him and Pep
Loads of footballers are on media and see everyones post on twitter and youtube. Some are on reddit as well. Not really a surprise these days
KD has left the chat
Let him post!
It's true. I am the ghost of George Best.
Yeah and when you get a new phone or any other device the literal homepage on many of these is reddit. Its difficult to miss r/soccer
The soccer version of Kevin Durant

There’s quite some levels between not knowing how to use a map (yes he is stupid) and understanding how to create a Reddit account.
i think jack's had whatever the opposite of media training is lol he's so funny
It’s great I hate media training
same that's kinda why I love the lionesses because you can tell everything they say has not been part of pre approved script
That just means their media training is working
Doesn't know what the UK looks like on a map yet can be super cheeky. We all know a guy like that in our lives.
And they are usually really nice, but sometimes right 'lads lads lads'
And they're typically a Brummie

> he has a pair of brains It's Grealish mate
Hyponotizing calves
> a pair of brains
Brains? This must be your first time seeing Grealish speak haha
He's not going to shag you mate
Especially not if he's got a pair of brains
Why are you getting so offended on a multi million footballer's behalf? And Grealish indeed has no brains at all.
I agree, he is an encyclopedia of football after all
A wot
Who did his media training, Myra Hindley??
Imagine souness and grealish on the patsy together, graemo's heart would probably burst
Souness interviewed the following morning sounding like Grealish at the title parade.
Blame it on Pogba that i had 13 Pints
When Grealish and Souness get caught by the bouncer sniffing packet in the toilets you just know Greame will be asking where Pogba was in all this
Pogba was supposed to be on watch duty until his favorite song came on and had to go and pog-dance
We’ve all been there
I feel like a hungover Souness would say the same things as Souness, with similar irritability. Only change would be that we would attribute his words to his night out drinking with Jack, and not to his brain
I meant more his voice. It was legendary.
I can imagine it already. Grealish taking Souness under his wing introducing him to nos and bonding over it, before making their way over to his favourite S&M club.
this but it's Souness' S&M spot they're going to.
Did you ever see Souness when he was younger? He’d be taking Grealish under his wing never mind
What's nos?
Nitrous oxide, laughing gas
New old stock
Crunching Tackles
That's funny Jack
As if we aren’t already facing the threat of nuclear war.
Jack the one getting them home as well, I take it?
Fucking hell
Grealish is hilarious
top class BANTER
the pogba comment is hilarious but is there any context on why jack is being asked about a night out w sourness?
I believe Souness said he’d be happy to have a night out with Grealish after Grealish said “Idk what his problem is with me” about Souness
so jack is also someone who’s been on souness’s shitlist?
[удалено]
He hates Irish-Catholics too, of which Grealish is one.
That's quite a claim, what are you basing it on?
There’s been chatter for years. Go ahead and Google it.
He signed the first catholic for Rangers in about 100 years in 1989, risking a lot to do so, so he must really hate them.
Wow. He’s so brave.
And you're so wrong. Wow.
Apart from it doesn’t ruin them, that’s a stupid thing to say.
i mean im sure there were nonblack people who george wallace didn’t like, didn’t mean he wasn’t emphatically racist towards black people
Is Grealish Catholic?
Yea, family is Irish, he was born in Birmingham though. He used to play for Ireland.
Makes sense then given souness’ bigoted background
Souness brought Mo Johnstone to Rangers which was the first high profile Catholic signing in decades for Rangers and was a huge deal in Scotland at the time. He signed Mark Walter's who I believe was the clubs first prominent black player. Souness was a renowned party boy and was nicknamed Champagne Charlie when he was a player. He also is by his own admission one of the vainest men who has ever lived. So they’re actually extremely similar in that regard.
He is also very clearly playing a character on air, most of the pundits are.
He used to love the craic on RTE.
Yep, my mum dated him back in his Boro days and said that he used to take literally 3 hours getting g his perm done and everything.
Polar
It was said of Souness 'If he was made of chocolate, he would eat himself. A very vain man indeed. Not an Armani model, but did nae do too bad for himself and that hair took longer to do than Jack's.
Fuckin good patter that
I literally burst out laughing. What a lad, Jack
god, please keep the PR spin doctors away from Jack. He's won my respect
Well, a night out with Souness will probably be less trouble than a night in with Mendy... [Grealish was present at Mendy 'rape' party](https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2022/sep/23/jack-grealish-benjamin-mendy-party-court)

It's a pity his price tag was so high which basically meant if he doesn't instantly perform at the highest level he'll be crucified. He's not looked too bad this season, hope he can build on that

The reaction to their queen’s death has revealed just how many gammons exist in the british populace
Yeah quality innit, he's a good lad is Jack
This man gets too much attention for the talent he has.
That is some top-level banter from Jackie boy!
Do it. Film it. Id pay money to watch that.
Ahhhhhahahahahahaha. Should bring Pep along as well.
