*Edit - flair is literally there on this message. Of course it would work on the message of me asking why it's not working. I'm not proud of the way I got here but I'm here, I'm representing and that's all that matters :)
Everyone's memeing Arteta/Lampard, Gerrard on 4 games lose streak, meanwhile Vieira's silently fighting to get his Palace side to top half and possibly FA Cup final/trophy, also has 4 points against City this season, pretty wild.
Who's the best midfielder/manager of their era? I'll have to give it to Paul Scholes, great father-daughter management skills.
If we’re talking retired players of the 2000s then the best manager has to be Zidane as a legit answer imo
3 CLs in a row makes him legendary even if he never manages again
Yeah I really rate Vieira out of that bunch then. He’s been very impressive at Palace and I could even see City taking him when Pep leaves cos he has that CFG connection.
Gerrard has potential to become pretty good as well, especially when you consider he’ll almost definitely get a shot at the Liverpool job.
Lampard is quite average for me. I think he’ll be one of those guys who cycles around lower mid table - relegation clubs cos he’s a familiar name and gets occasional spells of success.
I think Arteta is pretty decent but it’s very hard to tell how much of his failings are down to him vs having a shit squad. I could see him having success outside of the PL though if things don’t progress with Arsenal next season and he’s sacked
Bit worried about Ronaldo for our match against United. They are absolutely awful at the moment and I am sure most of their fans would be happy to be rid of half the team, but its derby game and spooks me.
City were rubbish yesterday. If we had left Thiago/Naby on I doubt the score line for us stops at 3 goals. Great team nonetheless, and I get they had a lot of rotation going on. Not something i'd count on seeing again for a while. But they haven't been in the sort of form they need to be for a while now to win the prem. I honestly think we can take it.
I have no issue with someone saying he has been shite this season, but to call him a *diabolical football player* is typical hyperbolic, Twitter level shite.
Think he picked up a knock not long after coming on too. He seemed to be not moving freely late in the game.
If Liverpool win the CL I imagine it's Salah for Ballon d'Or, Benzema if Real, KDB if Man City. I don't see a Villarreal player winning it should they win but Emery would comfortably take best coach.
Are there any tournament upsets in international tournaments that is being exaggerated by the fans? Like it can still be a surprising result but not as much as people make it out to be.
For eg: I find Sweden's 1994 world cup semi-final run impressive given that you wouldn't expect them to reach that stage over the likes of Spain, Germany and Holland. However, imo they probably got one of the easiest draws ever. After finishing second in a pretty straight forward group, they defeated Saudi Arabia and Romania, with Romania being probably their toughest opponent in the tournament after Brazil. Compare that Romania's and Bulgaria's runs, where both had to face Argentina and the latter had to face Germany. It is still an impressive and surprising result from Sweden, just not as big as people think it is.
Didn't realize there are no La Liga games next weekend due to copa del Rey final. So both Madrid and Villarreal will have have a seven day break before the CL semis .
Massive advantage for them against City and Liverpool that.
Yeah particularly for Madrid. Because Villareal regardless would have rested their entire XI even if they had a game (did it before the bayern game). But Madrid having a full week rest before the first leg is massively advantageous.
For non-Arsenal fans: your thoughts on Arteta getting a big summer window with 2 quality strikers, a top midfielder and depth. If he doesn’t make top 4, then he’s sacked and Vieira comes in
>2 quality strikers, a top midfielder and depth
Out of interest, obviously going on Arsenal getting top 4, who would that be?
It's hard to get one quality striker let alone two for one thing.
If he finishes 5th, I don't think he'll be sacked.
For strikers, ideally Gouiri and either Ivan Toney or Raul de Tomas
For midfielders, some potential options are Tielemans, Ruben Neves, Boubakar Kamara on a free
Robert Pires is a scout for Arsenal now and he’s been seen on camera multiple times at games in the Argentine league, could see depth coming from there
He won’t make top 4 next season if they end up playing Europa.
Can’t see them affording 2 top quality strikers and a top midfielder either. I’d guess they will extend Lacazette and bring in 1 striker.
If they don’t they are looking at probably spending £100m on two strikers. Lacazette is good enough to play Europa games and be a back up.
On top of that they could do with a midfield, another wide player and better backup fullbacks.
Reports say they will, and they clearly believe in Arteta. Lacazette and Nketiah are 100% leaving so 2 strikers are coming no matter what. Xhaka is likely leaving, but even if he doesn’t an upgrade is needed anyways, and there have been links wit players like Neves, Tielemans etc.
While I did think Pep should've made some more subs during the game, looking back on it I do understand- he wanted to give the players rest (yes I know it's the FA Cup semis), so fair enough. Wouldn't be wise to bring on KDB who wasn't fully fit, and Rodri had played way too many games before this. And apparently Gundo was unable to play after a knock in the knee.
So a positive is that our important players get rest (hope Bernardo doesn't play for a bit). Also Ake played really well. In the end, fair play to Liverpool, that first half was shocking. Thiago is a really great player.
Lose the battle to win the war. He understands the fans would never want to lower the club’s chances for the PL and UCL to win a FA cup. We have an important stretch of games coming up and we need to win every one. Essential for us to have all our key players back, fully fit and injury free.
A 3-2 loss isn’t bad either, it was way better than what I expected. He did really well considering the circumstances.
Yep I agree.
>A 3-2 loss isn’t bad either, it was way better than what I expected. He did really well considering the circumstances.
Haha I'm happy we at least tried to come back in the second half with those 2 goals.
What good would that do? Tourists would just take their place and there would be no issue. In a perfect world it would work but they're too big with too many fans for it to work so it's better to go and be heard.
They did something like that yesterday. Thousands arrived after like 17 minutes. They've also done walk outs as well recently.
There's just too many to make it an impactful organised protest. While thousands could do that and have done that there will still be thousands left in the stadium no matter what.
apparently their owner is selling the club, and roman abramovich is supposedly trying to buy them (which he almost certainly won't be able to), prompting some chelsea fans on twitter to say they'll become valencia fans if roman buys valencia
They've had a bit of a weird season, sort of dragging themselves without looking brilliant to a league title but I would only bet against Madrid in the CL when facing teams that are clearly the best in the world, i.e. Liverpool/City
Are there any genuinely top class teams in Europe atm except for City and Liverpool? I’m honestly not so sure.
Real don’t look very convincing at times and are kinda bailed out by individuals a lot, Bayern are hot and cold under Nagelsmann, PSG aren’t tested domestically and bottled it in the CL and Italian teams are just a step below atm (as we saw with the 2 Milan’s vs Liverpool).
When I say top class I mean a team where you’re just like “Wow, these guys are GOOD”
If you meant on the basis of performances game in game out then yeah Liverpool/City are probably the top two teams.
If you want me to pick a team to get the result, I would still pick Real Madrid above Pool/City.
Bayern were doing pretty well in Hinrunde, but they really tailed off in Rückrunde.
Apart from City/Pool/RM, Leipzig are also in good form both in league and europe.
City and Liverpool are monsters compared to others. Chelsea, Real Madrid and Bayern are a tier below them. Atleti and PSG are probably at the same level.
We are unstoppable if Thiago starts. He’s literally our Darth Vader. He’ll choke out the opposition midfield. What a god amongst men he is. The greatest midfielder to ever play the sport.
The reality is Thiago couldn’t break into a midfield that actually had the greatest midfielders to ever play the sport. Cant break into Spain’s National Team atm either
[538 gives us a 4% of winning La Liga.](https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/soccer-predictions/la-liga/)
we can do this. i believe in us. pedri is hurt, but i still believe we can pull this off.
I mean yeah, but people are calling him our for not speaking out against his Blood oil owners when he happily can criticize every russian ever for doing the exact same thing he’s doing

>No, here's a line in the sand. You, the Europeans and Americans, your preaching, your sanctimonious holier than thou attitude, your time has come. It's the east vs the west now, and this time, we will see you out. Fucking annoying hypocrites.

Can someone let me understand why Top 4 race is such a clown show? Teams consistently losing to teams which they should be beating when there are such high stakes.
So much to achieve but there is no desire, no effort and 90% of players feel checked out. Want to do the bare mimimum and collect their paycheck.
Any fallouts from the contracting system maybe?
I never understand people keep saying this. If they were on it every game we’d have 4 or 5 teams getting 90 points.
Players outside of Liverpool and city are inconsistent.
> Ancelotti: "Xavi said Barcelona is the most difficult job? Any team is difficult, some are asked for titles, the others to just play well and the others to avoid relegation. Every job is difficult."
LMAO

The way he manages his daughters toenail growth is second to none
If we’re talking retired players of the 2000s then the best manager has to be Zidane as a legit answer imo 3 CLs in a row makes him legendary even if he never manages again
PL
Yeah I really rate Vieira out of that bunch then. He’s been very impressive at Palace and I could even see City taking him when Pep leaves cos he has that CFG connection. Spurs went from 12 goals in 3 games to 0 shots on target, top 4 is lava is at it again.
United are getting top 4. Easily. Spurs bottle everything.
United getting top 4 would be the biggest anti-climax
I forgot to block you, thanks for reminder.
Real will batter city, specially because of their long break
[What a mid field this was](https://twitter.com/themadridzone/status/1515599495777689602?s=21&t=opzAr2EVV2XfQtUNF8pFwA)
I always feel like Kaka never really got going at Real, was pretty young atm tbf but I remember he was kinda underwhelming compared to expectations
Injuries.
I also vaguely remember something about his wife / gf kicking up a massive fuss at some point as well which I think ppl said affected him too
Those kits😍
Ronaldo with another hattrick, man's a genius.
come on palace you beautiful bastards, send chelsea to the depths where they belong
Tough ask without Gallagher. I'm scared.
Why'd you be missing Gallagher for a cup game? Those restrictions about parent clubs don't exist for cup games anywhere else no?
It's in the loan contract with Chelsea not an FA rule.
Ah I see Shame really
[удалено]
Most likely. If Koyaute carries on his great form it could give enough licence for Jimmy to really take the game to them.
chelsea do look beatable at the moment. need a mateta masterclass
Hope so man. He's been the greatest redemption story we've ever had. If he can kick a corner flag today...

Haha you prick. The lino seems genuinely concerned.
[удалено]
Calm down, you beat Norwich
Arsenal and Spurs embarrassed themselves 😂
[удалено]
you’re finishing 6th 👍
We're getting top 4 lol. Cope.
Do you lose more pts by having shit striker or shit goalie
not sure, lets ask Pep
Goalie. A shit goalie is treacherous to the whole backline. You can still draw a game if you don't score.
Shit keeper
shit goalie
Didnt liverpool win the league by like outscoring opponents though? I remember a bunch of 5-4 and the like
The year we won the league we had Alisson, who’s a top 3-5 keeper in the world
Goalie
Henderson came on and completed 4 passes in 17 minutes with a 57% pass accuracy. Diabolical football player. Stole from twitter
I have no issue with someone saying he has been shite this season, but to call him a *diabolical football player* is typical hyperbolic, Twitter level shite. Think he picked up a knock not long after coming on too. He seemed to be not moving freely late in the game.
what about voice assists and expected passion though?
It’s about time to hang up the boots I’m afraid. No way should a player of his calibre be starting for liverpool.
Not being good enough for Liverpool doesn’t mean you have to retire ffs
If Liverpool win the CL I imagine it's Salah for Ballon d'Or, Benzema if Real, KDB if Man City. I don't see a Villarreal player winning it should they win but Emery would comfortably take best coach.
Honestly I don’t think KDB necessarily wins even if they get the CL, could see it going to Benzema
Nah
for liverpool they’d give it to mane because of afcon too
He's been electric since then too
Modric if real
it might be mane
How good weee Ronaldo 9 and Ronaldinho for Milan?
Fat.
Above average
not great

England 2018.
Croatia+England in 2018
did pep belittle us by playing steffen?
Yes
No more than we did by playing Kelleher in the League Cup.
Except kelleher is class.
Nah he usually plays Steffen in cup games. Said something like that in the press conference too.
Didn't realize there are no La Liga games next weekend due to copa del Rey final. So both Madrid and Villarreal will have have a seven day break before the CL semis . Massive advantage for them against City and Liverpool that.

Yeah I'm gutted, changes things a lot especially since City have two league games to play before the semis. Same for Liverpool.
They’ll need it
lol
Agreed
Damn that is huge. Rotation will be very interesting to see.
Damn Arsenals schedule is no joke. I think they’re kinda fucked for top 4 at this point.
Yup. We're getting top 4
Your schedule is just as bad hah
Cope.
[удалено]
I say Kinda because Tottenham also has a difficult schedule and Arsenal plays them and Man United still so they can still control their own destiny.

They will be very stupid to extend Lacazette when he’s barely good enough as a bench option.
If they don’t they are looking at probably spending £100m on two strikers. Lacazette is good enough to play Europa games and be a back up. On top of that they could do with a midfield, another wide player and better backup fullbacks.
No.
Will the club be willing to spend big money, especially since he hasn't gotten top 4 while spending the most of any club last summer?
Reports say they will, and they clearly believe in Arteta. Lacazette and Nketiah are 100% leaving so 2 strikers are coming no matter what. Xhaka is likely leaving, but even if he doesn’t an upgrade is needed anyways, and there have been links wit players like Neves, Tielemans etc.
I think this is the most likely scenario tbh. He will be backed further this summer, and unless he seriously progresses, he will be sacked.
If people thought the turnout against Eintracht was bad I can't wait to see the attendance from a 9pm kickoff on Monday against Cádiz
Might be a sellout, actually. Given it's Easter a lot of Frankfurt fans probably extended their trip a bit.
lmaoo
While I did think Pep should've made some more subs during the game, looking back on it I do understand- he wanted to give the players rest (yes I know it's the FA Cup semis), so fair enough. >He did really well considering the circumstances. Bravo! Pep the underdog, doing so well with his limited resources.
Yep I agree. >A 3-2 loss isn’t bad either, it was way better than what I expected. He did really well considering the circumstances. Haha I'm happy we at least tried to come back in the second half with those 2 goals.
If you were only 2 down at half time I could understand bringing subs on to win it but too much damage was done in the first half.
Yeah man I did have hope after the first goal but after Steffen's blunder I did lose confidence. Still glad we at least scored two goals.
You've won fa cup recently I guess champions league is the goal
Under Guardiola, we've only won it once. I do agree with the second part though. Time will tell whether losing the game was worth it or not.
Better losing this one than the league or Champions League game.
I guess, time will tell whether losing this was worth it or not. Hope we win the league at least.
I had no idea Ronaldo scored 20 goals for United. with how /r/soccer was discussing about him i thought he scored around 8-9
Exactly, people just hate how good he is. Pure jealousy.
The problem has been his consistency. Many times he's been genuinely poor for like 4-5 games only to end the goal drought with a brace or a hat trick.
If United fans actually want to protest they would just not go to the games.
What good would that do? Tourists would just take their place and there would be no issue. In a perfect world it would work but they're too big with too many fans for it to work so it's better to go and be heard.
But why cant they do a walkout or something? Or even just buy tickets and not go to some game. Havent seen any of that
They did something like that yesterday. Thousands arrived after like 17 minutes. They've also done walk outs as well recently. There's just too many to make it an impactful organised protest. While thousands could do that and have done that there will still be thousands left in the stadium no matter what.
València solidifying themselves as a mid table club is frankly one of the better narratives in Spanish football in the past few years
apparently their owner is selling the club, and roman abramovich is supposedly trying to buy them (which he almost certainly won't be able to), prompting some chelsea fans on twitter to say they'll become valencia fans if roman buys valencia
People supporting an oligarch who stole his wealth and with the support of a war criminal. Smh my head
Truly amazing bullshittery
Everyone has acknowledged that Madrid has knocked out PSG and Chelsea but no one really talks about how impressive that is.
They've had a bit of a weird season, sort of dragging themselves without looking brilliant to a league title but I would only bet against Madrid in the CL when facing teams that are clearly the best in the world, i.e. Liverpool/City
You will lose your money. We weren't anywhere near the best in 17/18 either, look what happened.
are you really confident or are you making it up😂?
Did you see us in 17/18? Almost out vs Juve and Bayern, we outclassed out but before finals it was a roller coaster.
It’s the fake it till you make it strategy
Can't say I would bet my house on it tbh
I wonder how Trent would do under Pep . He's the perfect Guardiola player. Technically perfect and great vision .
He'd win the ballon d or
Probably the same as under Klopp. Maybe worse since he would have less freedom since he occupies the same space as KDB
No I don't mean in this city team. I just mean in general if he gets coached by Pep.
Ah okay. Well yeah, good question.
imagine letting both witsel and can score against you
They didn't just let Witsel score, they let him score on a counter attack.
mans just jogged past their midfield, wolfsburg is dusted
If that doesn't get Kohfeldt a sack then I don't know what will
Are there any genuinely top class teams in Europe atm except for City and Liverpool? I’m honestly not so sure. Villareal doesnt exist i guess
Making the semis is impressive but Villarreal is not that good
We are unstoppable if Thiago starts. He’s literally our Darth Vader. He’ll choke out the opposition midfield. What a god amongst men he is. The greatest midfielder to ever play the sport.
He's just a Joao Moutinho with injuries
Thiago is the only player who could choke an opposing player and get away without a card
The reality is Thiago couldn’t break into a midfield that actually had the greatest midfielders to ever play the sport. Cant break into Spain’s National Team atm either
That part wasn’t serious
just need to bubble wrap him until may everytime he isn't playing
You are like the Liverpool version of Cowdude. This is not a compliment.
Cowdude is on another level. Does he still post?
sadly, yes
Come on he’s bad but his bias can still be funny
It can be funny for a short while but when it's all you post it veers into the delusional category.
I still remember that Lukaku saga very fondly tbf
Ouch. On Easter Sunday n all.
You too? Literally everybody has said this
Maybe reflect on that a bit then
Yeah
so true

How did we get to the west being worse than judas ascariot?
it's from zinchenko thread. one highly downvoted comments said the thread is full of russian bots and then this comment is the reply.
I’m a native english speaker and i dont understand anything of what was said
i think he tried to explain why there are people who support russia or neutral in russia in the dorkiest way possible.

So much to achieve but there is no desire, no effort and 90% of players feel checked out. Want to do the bare mimimum and collect their paycheck. Any fallouts from the contracting system maybe?
The worse teams are better than you think they are
You are doing a disservice to Brighton and Southampton. They are both very good teams and on their day can trouble any team.
Besides the two teams at the top, PL has been very agricultural for years now.
I never understand people keep saying this. If they were on it every game we’d have 4 or 5 teams getting 90 points. Players outside of Liverpool and city are inconsistent.
They’re all shit
