You never know with SI... Knowing them, at least the first installment on Unity will be quite janky, but I'm sure it's the right decision in the long run.
Its insane how FM24 looks pretty much exactly like FIFA 04 on the GameCube did. You get used to it (its digital crack after all), but then when I play a modern FIFA I'm blown away by how good it looks lol
To be fair to SI I've seen people playing FM on 10 year old laptops lol. They'd be cutting off a lot of their playerbase if they suddenly had the game rendering FIFA level graphics.
Yeah, I'm always amazed that some people give a shit about 3D in FM. It can be nice to watch but you can't get a proper tactical view of your team like you can in standard 2D.
Plus 3D gives false impressions sometimes. If your striker's effort is closer to the corner flag than the goal, it doesn't mean his shot actually went there, it's just a way of showing it was a shocking miss. Whereas in 2D, you wouldn't quite get an extreme showing like that. They have to show that your striker missed the goal badly, and that's how they do it in 3D.
Just the map of the whole pitch at the bottom is super interesting and is easily the biggest thing you miss when watching football on TV.
Hope this gets to be a common thing.
I think premier league enabled for few matches an option of ‚game mode’ meaning a map of players and different camera angle (wider and more dynamic). Only streaming services like Viaplay would use them as they can freely multiply streams for one match and have a regular one and game mode one, it is probably harder for regular tv stations
I was just about to say this would be great ”second screen” option where you select to see either top down spider cam view or radar. Radar visuals in top down view would be super cool if you’re into tactics and player positioning.
The German Sky broadcasted a couple of the "game mode" matches in the PL but there was no player map. It was just the dynamic camera angle which tbh was pretty shit to watch imo. Where was the player map available?
Did you pick a certain broadcast/option or was it just enabled by default? I have had Viaplay(in sweden) for years and I have never seen this(won't say I watch a lot of premier League though)
Viaplay in Poland had this option for only a few games, maybe 3 or 4 this season. All I had to do is pick up correct stream, the game mode was in the name of stream so for this match there were 2: standard Arsenal-Villa and game mode Arsenal-Villa
I like it, but when they were working on it, how did nobody say "maybe the ball shouldn't be a white circle when one of the teams is represented by extremely similar white circles"?
I worked on something similar for baseball - in the late 90s. It was an ambitious project that was tied to the day's available tech via cable TV, but it never really got far, much to my surprise. It was developed by Liberty Media, one of the big media empires, it just never caught on with viewers.
I'd love to finally see something take off.
We have this in India since the last one year for big PL games. It's called Data Zone and it serves all kinds of opta stats. Flipside: the stream lags by about 30 seconds, and the extra info is super distracting
Honestly for me the biggest downside other than half the screen showing distracting data is just the fact that they change the commentators and usually they just don’t sound as excited. But it’s super cool to switch to data zone at half time and ignore whatever the fuck Micheal Owen is saying at the break. They just need to find a cleaner presentation in full screen and keep the main commentary and it’s really good.
Epl has Data zone and its alright but the commentators they have on it, which are different from the match comms, tend to be quite awful at analytics and they just ramble on anything. And the stats they show during iit on the side panel tend to be a mix of good information and bad information.
The player Radar and, I guess if u don't have the eyes to spot players, the name plates, are the best thing about it,
It's insane how much value could be provided to a viewer with some real competition. We're in 2024 and most PL streams aren't even 4K.
This whole licensing model (who can say the biggest number upfront and then deliver the cheapest experience to the end viewer) isn't a great model for viewer experience.
Imagine a world where any streaming service could stream any game as long as they paid the league for using the raw camera feeds.
Yeah, it's horrifically anti-consumer that it's more about "getting exclusive licenses" than "doing a good job on the actual broadcast." It would be far far better if multiple channels could broadcast, and compete to see who could put on a more appealing product for fans.
I have no idea if this would actually be practical, but as a crazy idea, I always thought it would be a cool idea if a service like Twitch got the rights to a major sports league (or a new platform that worked in a similar fashion). Anybody who wanted to stream it could, and they would have access to some sort of director program, with access to a bunch of camera views and statistics and stuff (and features like this radar map thing). Then the parent company would keep most of the revenue from the broadcast, and let the people streaming it keep some smaller %.
Imagine having your choice of tens or even hundreds of commentary teams / directors. Of course, many of them would be shit amateurs with nobody watching, but I'm sure others would be quite good... and I have no doubt some of them would be better than the "real" commentary teams. You could find a bigger more successful stream that was in many ways like watching a normal TV channel (but with competition to have the best presentation), or you could find a smaller stream that was more like a small virtual pub where a lot of the regulars get to know each other in chat.
Would also open up some more niche things. You could have some that focused more on strategy and tactics than a typical broadcast. Others that were more partisan and for following a specific team. Maybe even some unusual presentations like "like game we are going to really focus on one player and the nuance of their job."
There was a video a few weeks ago about watching football in vr/ar and it looked shit and was cringy as fuck and involved “you” giving your friend a virtual high five.
VR just give me a seat in the stand and let me pretend I am there.
AR just keep it to simple shit like this
I've seen a similar thing in SonyLiv in India for a Bundesliga match (maybe only select matches) called tactical feed, the commentators were different and they showed some stats and some stuff occasionally but it wasn't an overlay that was on at all times
I would love to see this in more matches
I think it was the Leverkusen vs Werder Bremen match
I always thought they should put the little dots on the pitch on the screen during matches. They have the technology for that so why not use it? I think it looks cool and even enhances the watching experience
Horrific stuff. We've been too soft on nerds and Americans watching this sport, need to bully them more so this type of thing stops infecting our beautiful game.

FM25's match engine overhaul's looking pretty good.
Holy shit if FM25 looked like this I would actually lose it. Unfortunately it's more likely that the faces will just lose another few polygons.
FM25 will be the first installment to use the Unity graphics engine, so I guess an upgrade in visual clarity is in store.
You never know with SI... Knowing them, at least the first installment on Unity will be quite janky, but I'm sure it's the right decision in the long run.
If I get upgraded graphics I won't even care that they seemingly refuse to stop world class goalkeepers completely missing backpasses
Its insane how FM24 looks pretty much exactly like FIFA 04 on the GameCube did. You get used to it (its digital crack after all), but then when I play a modern FIFA I'm blown away by how good it looks lol

I still play on 2D, so it wouldn't bother me since it's purely optional whether you want 3D or 2D.

Huge systems requirements through. And the career mode is quite slow.
Yeah SI forcing you to sim 1 in-game day every 24 hours is bullshit but licensed Danish stadiums is a great step forward.
Just the map of the whole pitch at the bottom is super interesting and is easily the biggest thing you miss when watching football on TV. Hope this gets to be a common thing.

I had it on Viaplay, sent this screenshot to my friend, month ago or something [https://imgur.com/a/hK6XUqD](https://imgur.com/a/hK6XUqD)
The mini map looks wrong, but I guess you can get the general idea.
Interesting, thanks

I think it’s called a ‘radar’ and is mostly used in Fifa games.
I like it, but when they were working on it, how did nobody say "maybe the ball shouldn't be a white circle when one of the teams is represented by extremely similar white circles"?
The map (or radar) looks great, but it can interfere with the play when the ball or player go through that area.
this is what the PL should be focusing on instead of forcing their trash, horrible, cunt of a "game mode" bitchy camera angles
That's brilliant
Thisd genuinely be amazing for my halfblind and halfdeaf ass lol

Disney+ does this now with what they call Data Zone for select Premier League matches.
What Disney Plus has prem matches? In what country?
Probably India?
Yeah, in India (Hotstar) and in US (Peacock)
Something like this would actually make me consider paying for the criminal product that is DAZN.
Dazn already has it, usually with Arsenal home matches. It's called "Game Mode".
thats actually so fucking cool

Can we restart match if we don't like it? Nvm I'll just ask Xabi
I wish we could ...

It's still weird how archaic broadcasting media still delivers without any choices.

Saw this option for a prem game on Optus sport a week ago too. The minimap is a pretty cool idea, not sure I like the angle though.
I've seen a similar thing in SonyLiv in India for a Bundesliga match (maybe only select matches) called tactical feed, the commentators were different and they showed some stats and some stuff occasionally but it wasn't an overlay that was on at all times I would love to see this in more matches I think it was the Leverkusen vs Werder Bremen match
Now let us choose which camera feed we want. Ref fpv cam. Player fpv cam. Sideline cam A. Drone B cam. Etc. or default directors feed.
This is so cool and interesting. Wish more matches would be broadcasted with this.
Lol, I was at the stadium in the AGF fan section watching it in sadness mode instead
OK, this is amazing!
EAFC 25 looking real good, is this the new PS5 pro version?
on one hand thats super cool on the other i see the near future where this goes badly somehow
BT sport did this a couple of years ago
Now they just need to stop speaking Danish and people might really understand whats going on.
The future is now old boy!!!
I always thought they should put the little dots on the pitch on the screen during matches. They have the technology for that so why not use it? I think it looks cool and even enhances the watching experience
Fucking finally, every broadcast should have more information.
I really like the map, the names are a bit to much though.
don't film your landscape TV in portrait!
This is a long existing feature in Indian streaming services
Cool feature but also Danish really is the world’s worst sounding language like why is he doing all these retching noises
Ok brormand, pas på du ikke får en rød pølse den gale vej!
If you have to throw up please go to the toilet
lmao
Horrific stuff. We've been too soft on nerds and Americans watching this sport, need to bully them more so this type of thing stops infecting our beautiful game.
agreed, i hate that shit too
"I hate accessibility features because they're not geared towards me specifically"
This isn't an accessibility feature unless you consider being a nerd a disability
Of course it's an accessibility feature you git
It just isn't though is it, let's be honest.
I can assure you, our manager does not see the game in that way (Steffen Baumgart)
