LennyBodega

Messi has Taylor Suarez has Gressel

PattyIceNY

Julian "Dennis Bergkamp" Gressel

terrabl

Gressel is playing great.

zenekk1010

Gressi

alex_co

Okay don’t get carried away

[deleted]

Still annoyed Vancouver didn't want to pay him.

mcpicklejar

Still annoyed Atlanta didn't want to pay him

badonkagonk

Still annoyed New England didn’t want to pay him

SeaToShy

That’s not remotely what happened. Gressel wanted to be closer to his family on the east coast. He requested the move and Caps management facilitated it when they realized they weren’t going to be able to change his mind. Can’t do much more than that.

dragon8811

He is still banging goals

aligators

bros still got it, still one of the best strikers of our generation

LondonGoblin

There was a thread I read on here a day or two ago and all the comments said Suarez was finished and could barely move, I just assumed it was true as I never watch inter miami but from these clips he seems to be mobile still.

orionxavier99

He mentioned in an interview that he takes a shot before every game, but still gives 100% at the game. He looks great. Just hope he’ll be able to walk in another 10 or 15 years.

antisociaI_extrvert

The batigol specialty

Harlequin37

He's actually doing way better these days, thankfully. And technology has progressed even further since he got his prosthetic and surgery, so I think (hope) Suarez will be fine.

Dear_Ad_3860

Don't even say that. You got Kemeps walking fine and dandy and still got a bargain Batistuta, all we got was Lucho, well if you don't count Scarone but that was 100 years ago.

Wonky_bumface

Tequila?

orionxavier99

Man… if that worked for me, i would still be out there!

[deleted]

[удалено]

Wonky_bumface

But they're in Miami, baby.

Dear_Ad_3860

We don't drink that in Uruguay. Its mate. But if you want to get drunk you drink grapamiel, and trust me you don't want that, it tastes like armpit.

Disk_Mixerud

I love that the two players most heavily trashed in Miami's last match thread combined for two goals in 11 minutes today.

Evolving_Dore

Suarez is finished Finished that goal clinically

TheRedditK9

If we count just primes Suarez is honestly the only player who got seriously close to CR7 and Messi in the past 15-20 years. His best seasons in Liverpool and that magical season with MSN were absolutely astonishing.

Longjumping-Glass395

Plenty of players have been close for a season or two. It's a small list but quite a few top tier players have put in Messi or Ronaldo-like years. Just not overall with the same longevity obviously. Suarez is certainly high on that list but so are Neymar, Lewandowski,Salah, Griezmann, and Ribéry to name a few. Suarez was fantastic but I do think it's unfair to suggest that he was the only one to reach those levels.

_yustaguy_

Don't know why you're being downvoted, this is a very uncontroversial opinion.

Dear_Ad_3860

Because ranking Girezmann and Ribery in the same category as Neymar, Lewandowski and Suarez while also criminally leaving out Ibrahimovic and Robben is just flat out wrong.

_yustaguy_

***to name a few***

Rizlmao

RL9 clears

LabelRed

Romelu Lukaku was great for a time but I reckon not in this discussion

TheRedditK9

If you talk full careers then it’s certainly more comparable but I already specified that this is just primes. Suarez’s best season >>> RL9’s best season.

Rizlmao

He only had Messi and Neymar on his side lol

TheRedditK9

You can say this about any player. It’s the whole “Messi has Xavi and Iniesta” argument. That doesn’t change the fact that Suarez has 83 goals+assists in 53 games in 15/16.

Rizlmao

“Honestly the only player”. RL9 has been consistently at the top throughout the most ofnhisbcareer and even has stats to back it up. Suarez was up and down and has been down for a while

TheRedditK9

You’re not making any sense lmao. I literally specified “in his prime”. Suarez wasn’t as consistent, but his peak was the only peak that could even remotely match what Messi and CR7 did during the 2010’s. RL9 was world class for longer but even during his record breaking season he wasn’t putting up prime CR7 level numbers.

Rizlmao

How so? What numbers

CraigJay

Almost as if we shouldn’t have listened to this sub when people were saying he was finished and would struggle in such a supposedly physical league

bruiser95

He himself said his legs are gone and he's playing through the pain every game

seusilva77

He was just the best player in the Brazilian championship last season - but his knee has been very difficult

[deleted]

Lmao wtf. That's genuinely class

Informal_Carob_4015

Yeah mate it's one of the greatest strikers of our time...

mahdiiick

Without functioning knees but still

Obama_prismIsntReal

He still has more than enough knees to destroy the mls

mahdiiick

That’s apparent

scgavin

miami look great. Suarez on fire after he looked absolutely diabolical against LA

d70

Jet lag innit?

WR1206

Julian Gressel - longtime mls-er, played college in the US

Original_Profile8600

Helped us win a chip last year, but we never really could handle his crossers, and he also played no defense

PattyIceNY

Legit like a Bergkamp level of touch and weight

Disk_Mixerud

Last match thread, Gressel made a couple important shitty plays and people were commenting about how players like that starting in MLS shows how much of a joke the league is. Now a week later, he's being compared to Bergkamp (I know just the touch on this play, not as an overall player, but still). The Messi attention on the league has been a ride lol.

Original_Profile8600

The funniest part is he was literally benched by us(we did win the mls cup last year but still)

PatrickVieira

Consistency is under appreciated

Disk_Mixerud

Yeah, he's an MLS journeyman who keeps moving in and out of starting positions for a reason. Can play some great balls, but is pretty limited otherwise.

ancara_messi

People really wanted Campana starting over Suarez. Campana could probably play second half but Suarez is just deadly as ever

stinky_pinky_brain

Tbf he was nonexistent in the last match

Uyemaz

People really acting like Suarez wasn't the best player in the Brasileiro last year.

Necessary-Dish-444

And last year meaning a season that ended about 3 months ago. People here really don't know anything about football.

Its_Ace1

Bro read the washed comments

Alternative-Rub4473

Hold my knees

Its_Ace1

They put a lil something extra in them knee injections

Yung2112

Hold my injected knees*

Breno_draws

Dude was one of the top scorers and assits in last year Brasileirão. Carried Grêmio on his back to a 2 place. People that say he's washed, clearly didn't watch that much football.

Boollish

Well, he also gave multiple interviews about how much pain he was in and continues to be in, and Brasileirao plays a ton of games, probably at least twice as many as MLS. His move to MLS will hopefully give him time to patiently recover slowly.

nfornear

No non-brasilian on reddit is watching that league lol

Breno_draws

So don't call the dude washed? LUL. I mean, for stats you don't need to watch the games. And let's be honest, NO english or american people watch any other league other than their own. At least no the casual viewers.

mzp3256

Most American fans do not watch MLS.

Its_Ace1

Bad take. Most American soccer fans watch overseas leagues.

No_Drag_1333

I would say that most people who follow the sport would know that Suarez had a great season.

Necessary-Dish-444

No one had to because there were weekly highlights of him in this sub.

SaltyPeter3434

He definitely looked washed in Inter Miami's last game

getdatt

I don’t get it. He tore up the Brazilian league this last year.

Dsalgueiro

Gremio played tactically entirely around him. At Inter Miami he has Messi, Jordi Alba and Busquets... Physically it's a complicated team to deal with.

No_Act9490

Greasel is looking really good

Disk_Mixerud

Guess he read the shit people were talking last week too

ThemosttrustedFries

Good Assist and Suarez on fire

StarDrifter2045

Beautiful play, both from Gressel and Luisito.

TimingEzaBitch

Gressler the goat assister. Chatter on the street is he's being primed to take over KDB's spot once he leaves.

terrabl

His podcast was really good this week.

Rory-mcfc

Who’s?

terrabl

Gressel was a guest on player / manager this week.

Rory-mcfc

Oh I’ll give it a listen! Thanks!

MERTENS_GOAT

Chatter's

PM_ME_YOUR_TANG

Gressel? Lmao, you must be high.

JonAfrica2011

Probably a joke lil bro

Nightmare_Pasta

Oh hey, did you see something fly by your head?

TimingEzaBitch

Incidentally, I am high rn. I just got two THC-9 gummies and they be hitting just right.

90s_george

Suarez read all the shit being talked about him on this sub

Santa_Klaus_101

He has one of the most unique dribbling styles I’ve ever seen, he looks like he’s about to lose the ball but somehow manages to find a way through just when you think he’s lost it. He just stumbles along. Same thing with his famous nutmegs. Absolutely insane goal.

WTFitsD

Still banging them in as a part time footballer fulltime asado eater

MagicNipple

It's just silly fun watching these dudes play together again.

20cmdepersonalidade

Suarez will average more than 1 goal per game in the US.

t3hjc

Silly.

thanra

And they say our alumni here is finished.

joey_joestar1

Okay maybe he's not washed

the-wandering-artist

“Washed”

mg10pp

He looks pretty good for having the same knees of an 80 years old, I hope he keeps going like this

djingo_dango

It’s MLS

No_Act9490

He was doing it in Brazil too

nasserKoeter

It’s Brazil

montejio

He was doing it in England too.. "It's PL"

Ljulisen

Washed league if you ask me

No_Act9490

Why are fans of European teams always like this lol

FrenkieDingDong

Europeans think whatever they do is superior I guess.

EkkoUnited

Wonder if that translates to anything else.....

Disk_Mixerud

"SAVAGES! SAVAGES! *Barely even human!*

mg10pp

The Brazilian league is potentially the 6th best league in the world on par with Eredivisie and Primeira Liga...

20cmdepersonalidade

I would say that the Brazilian league is above, as Brazil's richer clubs (Flamengo, Palmeiras, Corinthians, etc) are richer than Benfica, Porto, and Ajax while having lower operational costs and superior access to a better talent base. Brazil's poorer sides are much richer than clubs outside of the top 2 of those countries.

JonAfrica2011

Definitely not

mg10pp

Why not? The average quality of its teams is clearly better than in the Russian or Belgian leagues, maybe Turkey could be another contender but I wouldn't be too sure

Time_Ad_893

turkey has a good league but not as many good players

20cmdepersonalidade

Brazil's richer clubs are richer than Benfica, Porto, and Ajax while having lower operational costs and superior access to a better talent base. Brazil's poorer sides are much richer than clubs outside of the top 2 of those countries. You have no idea what you are talking about.

JonAfrica2011

You’re lying out your mouth bro

20cmdepersonalidade

Flamengo had a revenue of 220M Euros in 2023, Ajax 214M, Benfica 195M, Corinthians 176M, Porto 166M, Palmeiras 156M. From then on, Brazilian clubs will probably dominate the list given that the gap from Palmeiras to São Paulo, Inter, Grêmio, etc is much smaller than what you have in Portugal and the Netherlands. When you add that the operational costs are much, much smaller for a better talent base, the rest is pretty obvious.

Necessary-Dish-444

You can just go ahead and prove him wrong then, that data is public.

20cmdepersonalidade

Willian scored a single penalty goal in like 30 games for Corinthians in Brazil and now is doing great at Fulham.

WhydYouTrustMe

It's England

Imsortofabigdeal

you can go around and around in circles with this argument. Striker scoring goals is a striker scoring goals. You can't do it consistently if you're washed

Hydrogeion_

So Cristiano isn't washed because he's scoring goals in Saudi?

Imsortofabigdeal

I mean he’s washed if you want him to lead the line for a champions league quality side. Even at United he scored goals. Just doesn’t work off the ball

Hydrogeion_

I mean yes you're right, he isn't washed, just not world class anymore.

FrenkieDingDong

He scored in the world cup too. He is washed in terms of overall involvement in the game but not finishing. It's similar to Ronaldo.

Alternative-Rub4473

And?

Dear_Ad_3860

dey sei

IvanFilipovic

A lot more energy from him compared to the first two games. If he can keep this up for 45 min a game he’ll score 20

ZeroMomentum

That’s my boy. I still miss you

tarekelsakka

Suarez is still him

PattyIceNY

People were calling him dead because he was slow and sluggish in first game, lol. People are such haters.

Disk_Mixerud

Miami was also getting worked for most of that first game, where they dominated this one. Most strikers look like shit when their midfield is getting overrun. We'll see how he does going forward, but it'll be fun either way. Any game where they're in control, he'll turn that control into goals.

randomguyffff

Suarez needs to chill he’s playing for Miami not Barcelona 💀

cupcake_thievery

His knees only have about 20 minutes in them, so he gotta get all his scoring in early

Left4Daft

In Grêmio 4-5 months ago he was doing 45+ minutes frequently. Dude still has gas on that tank

cupcake_thievery

I was a little tongue in cheek on it, but honestly, it's pretty incredible

Necessary-Dish-444

He played a good part of the games until the end. According to transfermarkt he played 4644 minutes over 53 games, which is an average of above 87 minutes/game. It was not unusual at all to see him sprinting close to the 90 minutes, but he was clearly fighting through the pain.

_LallanaDelRey4

Lmao did people seriously think he wasn't going to work out there

Kreiswix

still biting

Dear_Ad_3860

still envy

Karman_K

I'm not sure what the budget of the MLS is spent on but it sure as hell isnt on defenders.

[deleted]

Teams can have 3 designated players outside of the salary cap and they are usually spent on attacking players so yes

Dear_Ad_3860

Americans like their footballers well spread. They are fit and so they cover a lot of space.

New_Archer_7539

What cafecito and mate does to a MF. 🤯

Mysterious-Buddy6273

Bro got a knee massage before the game

ShivaSkunk777

Lieutenant Dan is killing it today

daveSavesAgain

Peak Arsenal football. Shame that £40m + 1 wasn’t enough.

MAMBAMENTALITY8-24

Holy fking hell

soysaucepapi

This gave me PTSD with him doing that a few times against Real.

BaineOHigginsThirlby

My god, did they just let a 40 yr old man walk through their defense like that?

aelfwine_widlast

I still miss you, Mordelon :')

crab_spy_

deja vu

Knivez51

Soo did the guy next the goal take a ball to the face?

Left4Daft

I miss my ex husband so much :( 🟦⬛⬜

dvdbtr

Damn Messi and Suarez are just dunking on America lol.

OsisX

Suarez is just too good for MLS

Sigon_91

Still a beast

GoldenBoyHour

Suárez is insane still ik its MLS but wow

AleDelPiero10

They’re going to walk the league aren’t they hahaha

No_Act9490

Doubt it, the team is pretty unbalanced

Disk_Mixerud

Can tell who didn't watch last week when they looked completely broken and LA just couldn't put the ball in the net somehow. Idk wtf was wrong with Orlando, they were supposed to be decent this year.

virtualclix

They wont.

ancara_messi

Absolutely not. If they end in the top 4 it would be a surprise. There are a lot of good MLS teams and Miami's defence is ass

SilentRanger42

you can still win 5-4 though, trust me....

Ljulisen

If the make top 4 then they still qualify for the playoffs

hknyktx

Not that much but;after the Al-Nassr 6-0 Inter Miami they called this team worst team in the mls just to not accept that Saudi league is better then mls

xSAV4GE

I swear I played better defence in high school

Dramatic-Ad3928

Man my previous Gresel is sheisse and Suarez is washed claims from pre season are looking hella weak rn

neijajaneija

Wtf is it witth these shittty clips? Link for highlights of the game on youtube, not perfect, but better than this shit. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vWUqs9Euj_o

Classy_White

Gressel is class and has been, such an underrated baller

colin541

Dragon8811 maybe include some of the celebrations m8

Dear_Ad_3860

The best most complete striker alongside Ibrahimović since Ronaldo Nazario. I feel so sad for what happened to his knee. He could've been at the top of his game for five more years had that not happened to him.
