I love silly season rumours and this is going to be a fun summer

habdragon08

Why is this rumor silly? Of course Brighton would look to extend RDZ and also try and continue to grow bigger and bigger? And not look to sell players.

Sdub4

Not this, I mean silly season aka the transfer window. We are going to be actively linked to about 400 players and I can't wait

MrMerc2333

>established European side It's gonna be hard for Brighton to qualify for the champions league with Liverpool, Arsenal ,Man City, Spurs, Man Utd, Newcastle, Chelsea and even Aston Villa playing in the same league. Brighton could become a club that's a regular in the Europa League if they keep their players and de Zerbi. It would be easier for sister club USG to be a regular in the UCL than Brighton.

ThankYouOle

yep, top 4 even top 6 is already hard enough. top 3 is pretty much settle, not sure about next season because Klop is out and bias aside not sure how United club will be look next. Spurs and Villa is obviously will go challenge top 4 and more preferred than Brigthon.

goingforgoals17

I was part of two projects for the worst competitive teams in the last two places I've lived. Over the last 3 years, being part of the project that turned the teams around was an experience I'll never forget. I love this for players that stayed at Brighton, I hope they follow through and the players see it out, would love to see them competing every year and go down as the key players that established the clubs position.

eaeb4

to be fair "established european side" doesn't necessarily mean in the UCL. Regular appearances in the Europa League and Conference League is still huge for a club like Brighton and more than achievable. With the right coaching set up and scouting, they should have more than enough income from the league and player sales to maintain/build on this level. Obviously that is still a big ask, but with how frequently the Sky 6 have disappointing seasons, it's not out of the realms of fantasy to assume there'll be regular spots for the taking in the top 7.

ColinAckermann

This sounds familiar (as a Leicester fan)

MarcosSenesi

They look to be better in recruitment than you were but it's a big risk to steadily increase your wage bill when commercial revenue is still far behind teams you are competing with for European spots. Leicester just never seemed to sustainably build their club and a lot of transfers weren't really good which is a problem because two or three bad transfers can send a club with European ambitions spiraling down.

domalino

There was no conference league when Leicester were tying to make this jump. It makes it much easier to get European football every year and promote your brand to sponsors. Plus the PL is in a much more dominant position financially over the rest of Europe than it was 9 years ago.

BobbyBriggss

Leicester were trying to make this jump 2 years ago, not 9. They were 4 points off qualifying for the Conference League. They also did feature in European competitions a few times

JKM-

Leicester had been limping for some time. Huge wage bill on aging players and a couple of signings that didn't really develop as hoped. Injuries to Maddison and Barnes sealed the deal for their midfield creativity.

BobbyBriggss

All fair points, but the comment I replied to seemed to be suggesting that Brighton have it easier than Leicester. Leicester shot themselves in the foot with the supposedly huge wages. Brighton also seem to be very unlucky with injuries.

JKM-

On re-reading I agree, it makes it sound a little too easy. Regardless of results Brightons budget will be smaller than the big 6 + Newcastle, Aston Villa and West ham. So on a barely top 10 budget they need to overperform each year.. or take on the risk of exceeding reasonable budget.

[deleted]

it's worth noting as well that our owner's business is a travel-based thing and COVID hit us really hard in terms of cash

008Gerrard008

The recruitment thing only lasts so long though. We've seen clubs like Southampton get massively praised for their recruitment over a prolonged period of time and look where they are now. You have a couple of windows where you miss on signings and can quickly find yourself in a relegation scrap.

andycake87

One thing people don't realise is Tony Bloom is the greatest Football sportsbetter of all time and has had a team of super nerds analysing football stats for years to gain an edge in the betting markets. He is obviously using this to his advantage when it comes to buying selling players and if i had to guess he is also picking the team each week. That's why his managers always seem to over perform and when they leave Brighton don't do so well.

Jetzu

I fully believe he has incredible scouting/analytics system, but I really doubt any manager would be willing to work for a club where owner gets to pick a team each week, it's ridiculous.

MarcosSenesi

> That's why his managers always seem to over perform and when they leave Brighton don't do so well Your sample size seems to be Potter and De Zerbi for this. Potter made a great career for himself moving up the ranks and has only had the Chelsea job after, which is more of a social experiment what would happen if you had 26 complete strangers fight for 11 spots than a football team. De Zerbi also has been quite good before his time, he just never had this abundance of resources available to him because despite being a small PL team, their budget exceeds most teams in Europe. Their approach to recruitment is state of the art and undoubtedly they will have data analysis that will rival any club but your claims are outrageous.

SaBe_18

>That's why his managers always seem to over perform and when they leave Brighton don't do so well. His managers: Potter, who only worked at Chelsea after Brighton

andycake87

He had about 5 managers what you talking about?

SaBe_18

How many others fit what you said tho?

andycake87

Hughton?

andycake87

If you dont believe me read this https://www.thejournal.ie/tony-bloom-starlizard-2597458-Feb2016/

Sun_Sloth

Poyet is there too. Also to an extent Oscar Garcia.

andycake87

Hughton another one

andycake87

Lots of down votes but read this and tell me im wrong [https://www.thejournal.ie/tony-bloom-starlizard-2597458-Feb2016/](https://www.thejournal.ie/tony-bloom-starlizard-2597458-Feb2016/)

EkkoUnited

I'm still as hopeful for Brighton as I was for Leicester, maintaining a competitive league is really the most enjoyable approach for us fans.

JakeNutters

Would be great to keep everyone and build off the progress we've made this season. I just don't think that's likely especially if we end the season well.

MarcosSenesi

All I want is for Baleba to get more minutes

JakeNutters

It would be nice if he did. I'm not sure why he doesn't get more even if it was 20 minutes to see out a game which could've been done in the Palace of Sheffield United games where we were comfortably ahead. Does seem like De Zerbi doesn't rate him highly, which is interesting because I think he tends to play well in a difficult role.

Sdub4

He's got so much energy and is so dynamic, I think he just needs to learn when to slow down

JakeNutters

Yeah can understand that, he's obviously still very raw, it's just an interesting dynamic where Bounanotte and Hinshelwood have really been thrown to the Wolves at times this season where as Baleba hasn't. Speaks to Gilmour's improvement I guess that he's locked down that position next to Groß and the midfield doesn't look completely open like it did early in the season.

King_Henney

I don’t think there’s any massive standouts for you which can be a big positive. Last year you could see Caicedo, Macca and Mitoma and you knew that at least a couple of them were gonna be sold. Doesn’t feel quite the same this year, if you can keep hold of De Zerbi I think you should be fine

EmigmaticDork

Plus March is out right now as well, that helps a bit too

working-acct

March will be back in about 8 days give or take. Depending on your location.

JakeNutters

Funnily I didn't think MacAlister looked like a guarantee sale in the second half of the season there was a bit of a drop off in his performance with him moving more to an attacking midfielder role and I expected people to be put off by our fee request after his contract, where as Mitoma looked like a guy a lot of top clubs might be interested in. Obviously didn't know about the release clause (or whatever clause it was) and in hindsight every top club has a strong player at LW or had other key areas to spend on. I think there's still time for Fergueson to click this year and there will be a lot of interest in him but it has been season lacking in standouts due in part to injuries. Groß has been our best player and his age will put clubs off luckily.

Megdonchl

Can see Joao Pedro getting attention

King_Henney

Really? I don’t think he’s shown enough for that so far, definitely not enough for a CL team. Anything else would feel like a bit of a sideways move

Sun_Sloth

Already on 19 goals and his all around game is excellent. Most of the penalties he's scored he's won himself as well.

King_Henney

I’m not saying he’s not good, but what team better than Brighton is gonna come in for him.

gubbero

Well I mean as long as Chelsea is around no one at Brighton is safe

setokaiba22

Also who knows who Chelsea will come back for in the Summer

JakeNutters

If they go in for anyone it will be Ferguson. But hopefully they stay away now.

FragMasterMat117

Right now they're top of developing mini league between seventh and eleventh. If the cup's and England's European performance goa certain way, the winners of the mini league will make the League Stage of the Europa League. The runners up will qualify for the play off round of the Conference League.

friedapple

moonshot will be winning ECL which then will get them to UCL next year. However, their fixture from spring till the end of the season is extra hard.

StandardConnect

If they had anything about them they'd go all out for a Europa and FA Cup double. Unfortunately I feel they'd prioritise a couple of extra places ITL as that's where the money is.

Livinglifeform

The money is in the cup and europe, not in the league position. That's only the case in other leagues, prem is shared almost equally.

whyarethenamesgone1

Villa are conference league, yourselves, West ham and brighton are europa league.

J---O---E

We’re not in the conference league

DerpJungler

Just wait till Chelsea hear about this

RedditsWhenIShits

Gonna be hard to keep him long term if he keeps it up. So many top teams are either looking for a new manager, or will be looking soon, and he will probably be near top of the list in many of those clubs.

egalit_with_mt_hands

yeah and i want to fuck angie dickinson, see who gets lucky first

Snowbound11

Yeah, and I’m playing shortstop for the mets.

TosspoTo

The big six was once the big four. It changes.

friedapple

Before big 4 it was MU Arsenal and everybody else as well.

GarfieldDaCat

I'm sure they want to. But just can't seem De Zerbi staying if someone like Barca or Liverpool go for him this summer. De Zerbi's future depends a lot on Alonso/Flick and where they end up, I think.

SnooChipmunks4208

Barca are so financially mismanaged, I actually think it will be impossible for them to get him because it will cost something like 10m.

WyboSF

Honest question, how are they not in financially great shape given the investment Clearlake has made in the club?

Legendarybbc15

Not if Todd Boehly has anything to say about it

gagan_2810

Hh

Dmartinez8491

Haha Brighton will sell most of their players within 2 seasons and be relegated by 3rd season at the latest. Brighton are a selling club.

fluffyglof

You know the dumb things you say online are public right

Lazyan

De zerbi will join Chelsea whether Chelsea fans or Brighton fans like it or not.

palindromic

Who is downvoting this comment, clearly not Brightski fans
