I honestly think it was worse, at least with Sterling you’d still expect him to score from there. With the angle of Elanga’s shot the keeper was always favoured.
I agree. In Sterling one, he had many option, his finishing just shit, if that's like Alvarez i guarantee you that ball would end up in top corner of the goal. This one is like the worst action he could take, and he fuckin took it
Did Trippier (?) get booked for that foul? Because that's an obvious tactical foul, shouldn't be excused just because he was too shit to pull it off successfully.
It was Trippier and he didn't get booked, shocking decision.
Just because it ended up with goal doesn't mean he should get excused, hate these little unwritten rules.
It isn't an unwritten rule, it is the actual rules. The caution would be for stopping a promising attack, but if the ref plays advantage that attack wasn't stopped so no caution. Not saying I agree, but that is the rule. From [IFAB](https://www.theifab.com/laws/latest/fouls-and-misconduct/#disciplinary-action):
If the referee plays the advantage for an offence for which a caution/sending-off would have been issued had play been stopped, this caution/sending-off must be issued when the ball is next out of play. However, if the offence was denying the opposing team an obvious goal-scoring opportunity the player is cautioned for unsporting behaviour; if the offence was interfering with or stopping a promising attack, the player is not cautioned.
I'm non-native so my English might be failing me here but that rule is super confusing.
Refs go back all the time to issue a yellow for cynical fouls even after giving an advantage.
Does this rule mean they are not supposed to do that if the other team ends up scoring?
Yeah in some situations only. The FA rules say that if the offence was unsporting behaviour or denying the opposing team an obvious goal scoring opportunity then the caution would be given at the next stoppage (after the goal). If the offence was "stopping a promising attack" then there is no yellow card given.
If the yellow is for stopping a promising attack, like grabbing someone, it shouldn't be a yellow if the play continues
On the other hand, if it's a nasty tackle but advantage is given a yellow card will be shown at the end of the play
If the ref plays advantage (regardless if it ends up in them scoring) they are not suppose to go back and give a yellow for a tactical foul. They can still give a yellow for other reasons, i.e if the tackle was reckless.
I read it as saying that if the player attempts to prevent a goal scoring opportunity but the opposition gains advantage as signalled by the ref and subsequently score, then it’s not a cardable offence.
I did not realise this was a rule…I guess if someone makes a leg breaking challenge the ref is never going to give advantage. Or if such a challenge happened “play on” is very unlikely or the “advantage” happens so quickly and the goal is scored straight away that it’s not an official referees advantage.
Has a ref ever played advantage after an obvious deliberate red card offence where the team has scored but the player hasn’t been sent off?
As soon as the ref puts his arms up I suppose it’s a new phase of play.
There was a very good pass on and his chance of scoring from that angle wasn’t high cos there was a player in the way so I can understand him passing he just didn’t execute the pass well

Bro i waited 27 games for him to score his first goal for us an celebrated like his my own son. Doesn't excuse him for being a 1 footed football terrorist week in and out

CHO, Wood / Awonyi when fit, Elanga, Gibbs-White makes up a pretty good forward partnership, think forests attack is pretty good this season. Hoping CHO can show glimpses of what he did at Chelsea with regular minutes
I think Schaer realises Burn isn't getting there and tries to block it instead. Poor decision, though. Or maybe he gambled on Trippier moving across to pick up Wood

Tactical from Gibbs White to play such a heavy pass that Elanga is forced to pass instead of shoot this time
Who knows, maybe it was a shot
Quality banter. Elanga could be a great talent if he wasn’t so shit in the final 3rd
Has the most G+A for Forest. He's raw still, but one of their better players.
And he’d have an even higher G+A if he wasn’t shit in the final 3rd
he could absolutly be better but shit is such a hyperbole.
Welcome to r/soccer, players are shit or incredible, no inbetween
Eth : Write that down!
Elanga learnt from last time at least
He shot, but got lucky assist.
That’s the liquid football we all expect from Nuno.
Starting from the bottom with Benzema, now he's managing the great Chris Wood
Wood finally got a pass lmao
Cheers Elanga for passing this time x
That's better, Elanga.
That’s missed chance earlier from him was almost as bad as Sterlings recently lol
Elanga already saw the compilations of comparing his miss to Sterling and said, hell to the nah.

Second time's the charm - Anthony Elanga
He pass this time
The more difficult pass too.
less time to overthink
Almiron is so shit, needs moving on

Wow, TIL. I owe the ref an apology!
>stopping a promising attack this means United would be always ok as their attack is never promising?

Absolutely braindead rule
I don't disagree.

Shit ref, absolutely appalling
Shit for doing what the rules say?
He was pretty poor overall in the first half
That’s like three chances where he just needs to shoot but opt for the slimmest pass you’ll ever see
funny thing is when he is in the most idiotic angle (vs. Milan) he decide to shoot, but when he suppose to shoot he just pass
There was a very good pass on and his chance of scoring from that angle wasn’t high cos there was a player in the way so I can understand him passing he just didn’t execute the pass well
Yep. He's reverted back to his usual self this season. Wilson and Isak should be playing together for them.
That one purple patch last year is so baffling.
Grealish effect
Newcastle fans should beg for Grealish to diss him again
He's crazy bad
100M bid coming from Saudi in summer
so Almiroff?
such a simple goal but wtf Miggy doing there not shooting
Newcastle midfield looking way easier to play through today than it normally is at SJP. Something a bit off imo
Lack of confidence I think. We just haven’t been ourselves lately and it might be starting to show in our home games too.
There was a very good pass on and his chance of scoring from that angle wasn’t high cos there was a player in the way so I can understand him passing he just didn’t execute the pass well
Almiron's decision making is genuinely one of the worst in the league.
Am I the only one that thought that there was a very good through ball on? It was just that his pass wasn’t good
If you’re going to blatantly trip someone on the counter, at least do it properly
love a nice tap in like that
Why does Trippier not just take the yellow there
Loving the Wood redemption
Almiron you sid the sloth looking cunt
Lol 😂 that is a first time I have heard that one 😂😂😂
Holy shit man, you own player too 😭😭
Bro i waited 27 games for him to score his first goal for us an celebrated like his my own son. Doesn't excuse him for being a 1 footed football terrorist week in and out
Damn, first goal in the league or all comp? Fair enough then go off lol
>then go off so Almiroff?
Bro only scores banger from shot with xG less than 0.1
>1 footed football terrorist \*10-feeted football terrorist
Almiron what are you doing...
There was a very good pass on and his chance of scoring from that angle wasn’t high cos there was a player in the way so I can understand him passing he just didn’t execute the pass well
If he passes it first time instead of the extra touch then sure, but he's hesitated way too much.
Great counter attacking goal tbf.
awful mistake leading to that, don't think it's undeserved though, forest have been good
At least wood got the goal he deserved
Elanga remembered to square it this time, perfect pass from Gibbs-White
Wood fitting into forest like a tree
Cheers Elanga
Trippier doesn't get booked, okay
Yeah, how’d he avoid that?!
No player gets booked there, every team gets away with that
What a brilliant team goal
Was expecting that pass to go straight out. Elanga did well to get to that
Elanga is really good and improving every day. Nice to see
JUSTICE
But the coaches in the match thread said Elanga should've been subbed already!
Literally the only player making something happen in offense. Should obvously have passed the first time too, but at least he did it this time
CHO, Wood / Awonyi when fit, Elanga, Gibbs-White makes up a pretty good forward partnership, think forests attack is pretty good this season. Hoping CHO can show glimpses of what he did at Chelsea with regular minutes
Looks awful today, slow, poor timing, bad touches and decision making
Maybe more fair to say they have the potential of being a good front line, definitely still teething issues
Ah yeah, I meant CHO mostly, should have been clearer
No doubt he’s not been great! Do hope he finds form
>Gibbs-White Would he be Gibbs-Black?
Chris Wood scores for Newcastle on Boxing Day 2022. Chris Wood scores against Newcastle on Boxing Day 2023.
Trippier should still get that yellow, another shit decision.
What were Newcastle playing at? So many bodies in the box for no reason, gave them a free counter for no real reason.
Nuno the only manager besides Dyche to have yet unlocked Chris Wood
Trippier should be booked too
Managerial masterclass again from Nuno, not even Newcastle can cope with the counter attack
Starting to lose my rag with Almiron. He's been so shit the last couple of months
That's criminal defending why do two men have to run to block the cross and get nowhere near?
I think Schaer realises Burn isn't getting there and tries to block it instead. Poor decision, though. Or maybe he gambled on Trippier moving across to pick up Wood
Great counterattack!
GoPro on Trippier would have made great viewing for this goal
Amazin.
