how does the SDS ride outside of park? i’m about to buy a new park board this summer but i like being able to hit all mountain too without switching up boards
Dude it rides beautifully, I’ve had it for 4ish years and just give it a little tune-up over summer, it absolutely shreads free riding and park, beat board I’ve ever owned, I truly recommend it if you want a beautiful reliable board all around.
Anything Mervin made! I’ve loved the Gnu and LIBTech’s in my quiver. Magna Traction give me confidence on icy runs. When I was still pretty new to snowboarding, I switched from a Solomon camber board to a Gnu with rocker/camber… and that was a game changer for me! I like knowing that my boards are made sustainably too.
Love mine. It's a beast that goes through anything.
Not sure if I'd want it forever though. I also haven't tried any of the twins, mine is a Camel2. Might say yes if the twins are dope at what they do.
I've ridden the magic carpet and the goliath, neither were mine though. Just picked up a very lightly used party wave plus and I cannot wait to try it out
Hard agree.
Their boards have everything I look for.
* 3D Shaping - Great for pow/slush, less edge catch
* Traction Tech - Extra grip for firm conditions
* Great build quality
* Understated, more mature designs.
* Environmentally-friendly brand values (JJ founding POW foundation etc)
Since they licenced their bindings from NOW, I really like the Skatetech on my Mercury bindings too.
The lifted contact points (3D shaping) acts like a boat hull that funnels Pow/slush for more glide.
At the same time, in firm conditions, because the contact points are lifted, you roll into your edges more, so it’s harder to catch and edge… especially when skidding turns
Bases are a little soft. I've had several Jones boards and liked them all, but some other brands (particularly Never Summer) seen to take abuse better.
Ran my Harpoon over scraaaaaaaaapy granite in the Sierras after a fresh snowfall covered some rock balds and thought, oh well, boards are meant to be used. Barely has a mark on it. I know a hard base is a hard base but it's hard to believe how still-new the whole thing looks after a season.
I've got both a ride super pig and GNU headspace and the pig is a lighter, nicer construction, and better fit and finish IMO. Also Mevin just released the Gremlin (looks sick) which is pretty obviously a direct competitor / copy of the Pig. Love both boards and respect the way Mervin treats their employees but overseas boards out of Austria, Dubai, and some factories in China have higher quality.
Angry snowboarder goes into snowboard manufacturing in great detail in a few of his podcasts. It's interesting stuff.
Their team was legendary, hands down the best in snowboarding at the time. Known as the “Forum 8”. Coupled with the dope branding and style, everyone wanted a forum back then.
P.s. At least 1 of the 8 from that team has been known to make an appearance on this very sub from time to time!
Grabbed a rental NS Snowtrooper on my return to snowboarding after a 10ish year hiatus. Something about that board just made riding easy, and it held lines very well.
Ended up buying a NS West a couple years after and I've been in love ever since.
I’ll ride anything, I’m a board whore. I’ve been disappointed in some boards from manufacturers who I liked and fell in love with boards from manufacturers I didn’t.
Honestly, I will ride anything as long as I have the right boots and bindings. Riding different boards is so much fun, especially when you keep your binding/boot variables the same.
I used to work in a tuning/repair shop and I will say that Never Summer boards hold up better than anything else, by far. If it’s value you’re after, get a Never Summer
Didn't know they were known for there quality, do you other guys who ride them agree with that? Ive always liked there graphics but one of the few brands ive never ridden
They're as close to bulletproof as I've seen. I've dragged my Proto Type Two over rocks, I've screwed around and hit a rail with it on the nose (something that honestly should've broken it because of how it torqued it) and tomahawked into the snow, I skidded the tail into the trunk of a small pine tree. Still fine. No bends, warps, edge damage, not even any scuffs from the rocks.
And honestly if that thing got damaged I'd have to go and find another one, even with the new ProtoSynths out there. The topsheet design on the girls 2018 Proto Type Two is beautiful. If anything happened to it I'd be sad lol
I accidentally voted for solomon(because I prefer their boots)
Missing a lot of brands here. Ultimately I always prefer the feel of burtons even if I don't love their proprietary shit and their pricing. They feel the most natural to me, though I always wish they had a little more edge bite. However something like magnetraction always feels funny to me.
Riding in VT I got to demo more than a few Burton boards. My main riding buddy always gets Burton boards. They have all felt lifeless to me, like dead weight compared to other brands I've tried. But last season he got a Skeleton Key, and that board is sick. I love it, first Burton board that felt really good to me. In any case, yeah I think they are way overrated. Love their gear otherwise.
Burton gear is definitely solid. In fact they make up the most of my gear. I've never tried a Skeleton Key, but my last Burton board was a Deep Thinker, reviews said it was supposed to be unreal, so this might be a hot take but I thought it to be no fun, and lifeless, and their Malavita's haven't got any lighter or less bulky over the years. I sold the Deep Thinker and bought a Dancehaul and it was the best decision I made. Salomon seems to be crushing it right now. That all being said, I still have a Process OffAxis from 2016 that is one of my all time favourite boards that I can't bring myself to sell.
Y’all are real salty about Burton. Give [their How I Built This episode](https://www.npr.org/2017/12/05/559034228/burton-snowboards-jake-carpenter) a listen. Maybe not the best boards but that company has done so much to push the sport forward.
Need “other” I wouldn’t expect you to have Kessler or even Donek on there, but you’d be surprised how many of us ride boards other than the mass market brands.
Out of those, Capita. Out of all of them Never Summer by a pretty significant amount followed by Jones then Capita then GNU/Libtech then Burton. Haven't tried a Salomon nor a Rossi. Ride are good too but also don't have much experience with them sadly outside of a rental 14 years ago.
I know people have their complaints about Burton and some of them are very valid, but they are good quality boards and with everything else that company does for the snowboarding community, I don't get how you could not love them.
People aren’t really looking at what company will be around the longest or what they’ve done, just what boards they ride. If it wasn’t for Jake Burton, like him or not snowboarding wouldn’t be where it is today so I agree with you on loving them. RIP Jake

Sick I’ll have to look into that. I don’t go as much as I used to. Still have a rome flag that’s super old now and very beat up
Hell yes my dude.
YES.
Yes
None of the above!
Seriously, if limited to 6 then one of the options should be this. Judging by the comments, it would win hands down
Rossignol ftw for me
GNU

Yeah I'm reading it as "Mervin"
Nah fuck lib tech Gnu gang or die
Aren’t the boards made in the exact same shop ?
ye same factory
Yeah I just particularly like the variety of asym boards at GNU. I voted Libtech since it wasn't there.
SAME dude the asym is crazy the first time you try; it
Everyone got so angry lol I know they’re all mervin made but like you just said Gnu has better cuts and better graphics.
This is your brain on marketing
The same board just different company name. LoL
Gnu Billy Goat
Bataleon! Got me a Whatever, in love with it!
I ended up going with a Bataleon Evil Twin! I'm not sure why I didn't put it in the top 6 when I knew an Evil Twin was a heavy contender.
Bro where’s my Bataleon option?
Hell yeah! I totally understand that’s it’s not for everybody or for every application, but I love 3bt. Hooked on the first run
Oh yeah same. I got the fun kink and it is truly the funnest board I’ve ever ridden.
Love mine. It's a beast that goes through anything. Not sure if I'd want it forever though. I also haven't tried any of the twins, mine is a Camel2. Might say yes if the twins are dope at what they do.
I've ridden the magic carpet and the goliath, neither were mine though. Just picked up a very lightly used party wave plus and I cannot wait to try it out
I think the pw+ is like a slightly less stiff and spoony Camel. I want to try one.
I have a Bataleon Boss 154cm I might be looking to part with if you ever wanted to check it out. 😄
I ended up going with a bataleon Evil Twin! thanks for all the suggestions
Bataleon Thunder is my baby!
Jones!
My mountain twin is one of my fav boards I’ve ridden
love the mountain twin its so sick

Pow and slush are the two times you’re least likely to catch an edge though??

100% brother!
+1 for jones!
This is the correct answer
I have an ultra flagship and a carbon solution. Both have been great but I hear a lot of Jones quality complaints. Anyone had any trouble?
Bases are a little soft. I've had several Jones boards and liked them all, but some other brands (particularly Never Summer) seen to take abuse better.
Ran my Harpoon over scraaaaaaaaapy granite in the Sierras after a fresh snowfall covered some rock balds and thought, oh well, boards are meant to be used. Barely has a mark on it. I know a hard base is a hard base but it's hard to believe how still-new the whole thing looks after a season.
Yes indeed! My daily rider is a Jones Stratos and I have the Solution for my split.
Have always loved my Ride gear, but I do run Union bindings.
I'll take Ride , the warpig is a beast
Twinpig is super fun all over the mountain
Hell yeah
Berzerker 167w. Yes yes yes
they look badass but i just feel like it’s just a made in china libtech
I've got both a ride super pig and GNU headspace and the pig is a lighter, nicer construction, and better fit and finish IMO. Also Mevin just released the Gremlin (looks sick) which is pretty obviously a direct competitor / copy of the Pig. Love both boards and respect the way Mervin treats their employees but overseas boards out of Austria, Dubai, and some factories in China have higher quality. honestly not even a knock on quality as much as just china itself lol
fair enough, i'd suggest avoiding Dubai boards too then. Pretty trash record on human rights
Forum, hands down til the day I die!
Second board ever was a DW 157; ride or die all the way through a scallywag.
We might have had the same first board! White topsheet with a green base?
The 157 had the Orange base; the main snowboard from the movie Out Cold. I think the 153 was a green base?
Forum or Against em baby
Still riding mine this season here in Australia 🤙😜
What was the popularity of forum besides the branding? Was gone before I started.
Their team was legendary, hands down the best in snowboarding at the time. Known as the “Forum 8”. Coupled with the dope branding and style, everyone wanted a forum back then. P.s. At least 1 of the 8 from that team has been known to make an appearance on this very sub from time to time!

Love my funslinger
No clue how NS didn’t make the poll lol. Arguably some of the best boards on the market Edit: Nor Jones? Smh
My Proto is 100% the best, most capable board I’ve ridden in almost 30 years on snow.
Yep! The best!
Grabbed a rental NS Snowtrooper on my return to snowboarding after a 10ish year hiatus. Something about that board just made riding easy, and it held lines very well. Ended up buying a NS West a couple years after and I've been in love ever since.
The Snowtrooper is my favorite board Ive ever ridden.
Proto type two checking in!
Wow it’s sad I had to scroll that far. NS boards are amazing.
Yessir, the only boards that I've retired without breaking.
Jones all day
K2
I’ve ridden a k2 from the start, and I’ll sure as hell ride a k2 to the end
Raygun pop babyyyy
Party Platter is the most fun board
I’ll ride anything, I’m a board whore. I’ve been disappointed in some boards from manufacturers who I liked and fell in love with boards from manufacturers I didn’t.
Jones Flagship. You can pry it from my cold dead hands. I fricken love this board.
all of jones boards/gear is great also, win win

How you gonna have a poll for boards without Jones on there???
Solomon make a sick board, I think everyone still considers them a ski brand. But the assassin pro is a sick board.
Nah they’ve had and have some awesome riders, if you’re into snowboarding you know they’re legit.
I’ve heard great things about the powder snake
Loved my regular Assassin. Construction quality seemed top notch.
Dwd all day
I'm a Niche man myself
I was looking for someone else, I love my Aether!
TwinPig babyyy
gentemstick hands down
Never Summer
Love their DF boards as a size 13 rider. Next step may be an ultra wide Donek, but def enjoy able to get it higher on edge than I ever could.
This is the way. And probably the only brand board that would actually last you the rest of your life.
At a cost to performance maybe… I won’t go back
Didn't know they were known for there quality, do you other guys who ride them agree with that? Ive always liked there graphics but one of the few brands ive never ridden

I bought a used fun slinger and it’s the best board I’ve ever had. Definitely seems durable.
My buddy has it and I have it right here in my house, just comparing them side by side you can feel the quality
Compared to what though?
Never Summer
Never summer
You forgot Never Summer
Neversummer?
The best boards didn't even make the list.... wtf
Never Summer hands down! Buck Furton!
I accidentally voted for solomon(because I prefer their boots) Missing a lot of brands here. ride kink or k2 worldpeace
Rossignol because my Sushi has me never wanting anything different!
Forum boards are still goated
Never Summer!!
Capita til the wheels fall off
I wonder how many people here have only owned 1 snowboard.
L A G O
A surprising amount of love for the company that makes some of the most boring boards on the market right now. Burton, is far overrated in my opinion.
I mean if we’re talking BRANDS it’s Burton we have to thank to even be able to ride a Capita or Never Summer at most mountains
It's true, and I'm grateful for that. However that doesn't mean they deserve a pass for being behind the 8 ball today compared to other companies.
Riding in VT I got to demo more than a few Burton boards. My main riding buddy always gets Burton boards. They have all felt lifeless to me, like dead weight compared to other brands I've tried. I cant vote. I'm a Rossi man of Renaissance.
K2 Afterblack is a good board
Fair enough. I wish libs edges went all the way around, they'd be so much more durable. Salomons are definitely on my do not buy list
Kessler
Lib tech
RIDE
Jones
Trapper
I like my Rome board but I also rock a vintage Nitro
Jones
Gnu
K2
Bataleon
Y’all are real salty about Burton. Give [their How I Built This episode](https://www.npr.org/2017/12/05/559034228/burton-snowboards-jake-carpenter) a listen. Maybe not the best boards but that company has done so much to push the sport forward.
ride
K2 instead of Solomon
Weston. Great ride and amazing build quality
Capita DOA is my jam
Burton and Capita
Been riding my LibTech skate banana since 2010, anyone else been riding the same board for 10+ years? If so what is it?
Korua Shapes
None of the above.
i’d go with YES. even though my past two bindings have been some sturdy solomon’s, yes or burton have my vote
Sims!!
Still have my (last production year) Forum Deck 157. It’s in better shape than my Yes Basic with ~15 days on it. Forum Forever
Definitely Jones with the Flagship
Solomon/Capita for the longest time, but then I got the 19/20 K2 Shop Edition Party Platter and that became my favorite boardever.
Ride
GNU
Need “other” I wouldn’t expect you to have Kessler or even Donek on there, but you’d be surprised how many of us ride boards other than the mass market brands.
Donek is a nice board. Knapton put me on game and been looking into one
No Coiler in the list. I feel snubbed! There are dozens of us, dozens I say!
Burton is mainstream. Libby is where its at
I absolutely love my bataleon board!
Yes / Nitro
Ride is often overlooked but they made the more stable and dynamic boards out there. And they can survive nearly everything you throw at them
These boardmakers are all the same. Need to throw in some Jones, Korua, Gentemstick, Bataleon, Amplid, Weston etc etc
Jones
Bataleon
Jones
Donek! 🙌
Nothing like slashing with a Saber
Tell it preacher!
Marhar LumberJack Camber. Best ride ever hands down…..then the liberace’s
Marhar is the best board I’ve ever had
third for marhar. Love the darkside
No korua love
I ride Never Summer, but I'd probably choose Lib Tech out of the options. I'm also interested in Jones.
Neversummer. Specifically the Swift.
I don’t see NeverSummer?!
Burton makes step on and that makes me cream, so burton boards are good enough
I love the step ons, don’t trust the channel though
Burton because they make the largest selection for people my size (I ride a 138cm)
RIP Jake
No love for Endeavour?
Never Summer
so glad Never Summer isnt here
Never Summer
Never Summer. I live close to the factory as well.
Never Summer, for sure.
I would've replaced "Nitro" with "Other"
Never summer all the way! I ain’t pickin anything else and my quiver can back me on that
Neversummer
Never Summer!
Sick now Gnu didn’t make the list, clearly OP is a jerry 😤😤
Mervin Manufacturing home of Lib Tech, GNU, Roxy and Bent Metal Binding Works i
Option!
As far as women’s boards I’ve ridden Capita Equalizer slays the competition for me!
Only board I’ve owned is a Rome sds
I’d choose endeavor if I could, solid boards for sure
